Safari URL back into iWeb software

I've published four different iWeb sites using iWeb but my iWeb software only shows one of them. How do I bring the others back into iWeb so I can publish them to a folder for transferring to WordPress?

iWeb stores the website data in a Domain.sites2 file...

You need to find the files for the other sites to open them in iWeb. Try a Spotlight search for Domain (or Domain.sites2 if you have file extensions turned on in Finder prefs).

  • Can you export a published iweb website back into iweb?

I have created my own iweb website which I uploaded to my own domain using transmit. Since creating the page, I had a had drive die on me that I can't access and don't have my site in iweb to edit as I have resorted to a back up made just before I made the site. So I want to know if I can access the site from Transmit and put it back into iweb for editing the site?
This is my first site I have made entirely on my own and have been learning as I go. If I can't access the site as I made it, I may try accessing the files from Transmit one by one to re-make the pages.
Any help on this will me very much appreciated.
This is my site for anyone who wants to see:

Sure, you could syncronize in the opposite direction to get your html files and images, etc back on your Mac. But you will have to drag and drop, copy and paste to get that content back into iWeb.
Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. Sadly, many many people learn this the hard way. Unfortunately, looks like you have too.
I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). Click here to download it or visit http://iweb.varkgirl.com for more info. The app will make a .zip file of your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and save it to a location of your choosing.
Then check out Mozy for an online place to store your backups - I just found this and it seems great. They just recently released a Mac friendly version of their app - it automates the upload and encryption. You select the files you want to backup and it does the rest. You can set it to upload automatically after so many minutes of inactivity or once a day. It does it all in the background so you don't have to worry about it! 2GB of storage are free - plenty of room for most people's iWeb Domain.sites backups!

  • Is it possible to get published to folder files back into iweb?

    Hello,
I have created a website in iweb and published it to a folder and to my .mac account. I have recently closed down my .mac account so I could reopen one with my new business name. In the meantime I have upgraded to Leopard which deleted my iweb application.I have got another copy of iweb but now when I open iweb it does not automatically open my website up. Does anyone know if it is possible to open my old website which I have Published to a folder in iweb so I can publish it to my new .mac site?
If i click on the html files in the folder it runs like the website but from that folder only. All the work is there I just can't find out how to get it back on the net.
Please help so I don't have to spend weeks re entering all the files back into iweb one by one!
    Thanks

You can upload your website files by drag and drop to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites to get your website up and running.
To be able to publish changes you will have to do a search for the original domain.sites2 file and drop this into Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
If you can't find it, then rebuilding is your only option. This is frustrating but doesn't take too long if you copy and paste all your text, images etc from the published files to your new iWeb pages.

  • How do i get hosted website files back into iWeb after they were lost off iWeb?

Lost all website files from my iWeb program.  Possible I updated a newer non compatible iWeb version?  At any rate........have website files back on my desktop and have no idea how to get them back into iWeb so I can modify.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

You can't.  iWeb has no import capability.  Search your hard drive for a file named Domian.sites2.  It normally resides in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you use Time Machine you can go back in it to find the latest copy of that file.
    However,
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you can't find it you'll have to start a new website.  You can open the files from the website in your browser and copy/drag photos from the existing website pages into a new or blank iWeb page.  Text should be selected and copied and then pastes into the new webpage.  No need to add a text box first.

  • Download My Deleted Site Back Into iWeb from .Mac?

I accidentally deleted my website from my computer but it's hosted on .Mac, is there a way to download it back into iWeb? That would be too easy....

If you're managing multiple sites you might consider iWebSites. I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want. I don't open iWeb directly but always thru iWebSites.

  • How do I import a iWeb published folder back into iWeb

    Hi,
I just upgraded to Leopard and cant seem to bring my iWeb published site back into iWeb. Any ideas? TIA!
    -=Bill=-

I have the same problem, after installing OS X 10.5. Where did iWeb go? Is it not included in Leopard? After the install I could not find the iWeb anymore. I have my site up on .mac and I have them in iDisk but I can not get them back to iWeb. Where is the files saved for the iWeb, there must be a way to get them back no??? I am not able to update my website, it feels ****!!!!!

  • Is there anyway to bring a published folder back into iWeb 08?

I published my old site to a folder for safe keeping.
I would like to bring it back to iWeb 08's design interface/application so I can work on it some more. Is there any way to do that?
    Thanks.

Thank you for the prompt reply - I shall now go into a darkened studio and scream for a short while. I think that iWebsites overwrote the Domain file with a page I was trying to get rid of that is stuck on My Pages on my .Mac homepage, so everything else disappeared for ever. I have been trying to copy and paste from the folder I have into iWeb but it ain't going to work, I suspect. No alternative but to start from scratch, just using the folder as a design reference. Presumably website software such as Softpress' Freeway can import from an existing folder?

  • How can I download my web pages back into IWeb

I have created a site with about 10 pages photos everything it is still on web. problem is the local files are not on my MacPro, lost them somehow. Is there a way to get them back from the web?

No unfortunately not, as iWeb has no import facility and so is unable to open any html or css files/an already published site.
If you really don't have access to your domain.sites files, which is what you need and these can be found under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites, then you are look at re-building your site from scratch.
You can use copy and paste to re-create it, but you are still looking at re-building if you don't have that all important domain.sites file.
Also, if you have to re-build, then consider using different software instead of iWeb, as Apple no longer actively supports or develops it.
There are various alternatives such as RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Express/Pro, Flux 4, WebAcappella 4 and Quick n Easy Website Builder as well as EasyWeb that is in development by Rage Software and Adobe Muse.
You can download free trials of most of these so that you can try before you buy.

  • My computer is down, can I import my web folders back into iweb

I downloaded my index.html and the folder with all the content in it back to my desktop on another computer. How can I get my iweb site back up on line in Iweb 08 using these two folders. I don't have a copy of my domain sites files. Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Unfortunately no. iWeb does not have the capability of importing previously published files. However, Chapter 2.3 of the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing image, audio and/or video files in the published site in the reconstruction of the site.
Might be time to consider a backup strategy and an external HD. At the very least you could use a flash drive and backup the domain file there after each use along with some other of your most important files.

  • How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb?

How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb?
    Hi
I've set up my website using iWeb 08, always keeping the latest version in iWeb and backing it up in a folder on my HD.
Yesterday I got rid of the current design iWeb and tried to upload the back-up folder into the iWeb application. No success.
How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb? Many thanks for your help.

Welcome to the discussions. Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Presumably you've been prudently making backups of your Mac's internal HD, so search there for the Domain file's invisible extension:
    .sites2
If you can't find your old Domain file, paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • Bring back iWeb site into iWeb

Someone deleted my iWeb project file (Domain) and I am wondering if I can bring back the version I have on my .Mac server (my on-line site) and be able to build on it in iWeb again, rather than starting it from scratch. thanks

No, it is not possible to bring the published iWeb files back into iWeb. However the content of your site (images, text, videos, etc.) is here:
    Finder > Go > iDisk > My iDisk > (wait) > Web > Sites > ...
So you could copy the folders containing your content from your iDisk to your Desktop and start to rebuild your website in iWeb.

  • How do i get a site saved in a folder back to iweb?

for some reason (i do not know why) one of my sites disappeared from iweb. but, it is still saved on my idisk at web>sites>etc.... when i click on any of teh files, they open in safari and the URL starts with - file:///Volumes....
so i know i didn't loose all my work, but how can i get it back into iweb so i can make it part of my original site?
    TIA!!!

I'm sorry, but you will not be able to import any of these saved folders back INTO iWeb. iWeb just doesn't function that way. The best that you can do is EITHER to use what you can see as a reference while recreating your site (you can drag images and stuff to your desktop for use back in iWeb) OR you can put the folder back on your iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/ folder and make a NEW site in iWeb that links to this old and now static site.
In any case, there isn't any way to further edit or publish this site from iWeb. In the future, you should keep a backup of your Domain file, which is where iWeb stores everything about your site. This is the only true way to backup your iWeb work. You can find this Domain file in your hard drive in the /Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ folder.
