Safari Very Slow

I'm getting an error on my Mac that says "Safari Can't find the Server". It happens especially in the evening and prevents virtually every web site from loading BUT AT THE SAME TIME, everything works fine using Internet Explorer on my Windows XP laptop which is also connected. All web sites seem to load about 3/4 of the way then everything hangs. My daughter is a heavy My Space user. Could this be causing the problem? I don't get it. Any ideas?

I'm writing from Firefox, v2.0.0.9 as Safari 3 under Leopard is unbearably slow and buggy. Part of this might be the Flash pluggin, but loading up a very simple page takes forever, often freezing the application which requires Activity Monitor to force it closed.
One thought on Safari's problems is the Leopard's new network auto-optimization program (which doesn't seem to work).
Rumors suggest that Safari is not one of the applications to be "tidied up" in the forthcoming version 10.5.1 of Leopard.
Apart from Mail (which runs slow), Safari (which is not stable), boot up time (which takes 30 seconds longer) and Time Machine transferring data at USB 1.1 speed, Leopard is a nice novelty for about 3 weeks.
I'm going back to Tiger until 10.5.2; I am one to the supposed 2million early adopters/beta tester for Apple's Vista OS.
PS: yes, I have did a clean install.

  • Videos won't stream (eg youtube) and safari very slow

Hi, I have 2 problems and would really appreciate any help
1 - safari very slow to open pages and has been like this for weeks. I have seen a solution to change to 'opendns' under System preferences > network > advanced tab but I cannot see an option for that. I think this may be my problem as Google always opens quickly. Can anyone elaborate on this solution?
2 - Videos won't stream and just hang with circle (e.g on sites like youtube) which started about 1 week ago. Only thing I have done differently is watching megavideos on unknown site. I have tried the solutions given under other threads (e.g. deleting cache files and uninstalling and reinstalling adobe flash). This seemed to help slightly the first time I tried it but still took approx 60s to stream 1 minute video. Has now reverted back to not streaming.

To set up a test account, open System Preferences > Accounts, click on the padlock icon to unlock it, then click on the "+" sign, name the account "test" and leave the password field blank, since you don't need the account that long; you can delete it later.
Quit System Preferences, log out of the regular user account and into the test account, then try using Safari to load pages and videos to see if the problem continues there.
Other things you can try in your regular user account that may help your problem or solve it are this:
    1. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    3. If you don't want to use the Top Sites or Cover Flow features, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
then press Enter or Return and quit Terminal
    4. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    6. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    Form Values
    LastSession.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Permissions, restart Safari and see if the speed is improved.

  • OS 8.1 safari very slow offer upgrade.

After upgrading my iPad Air, Safari seems very slow. While surfing the web, pages are slow loading. Pages with pictures keep trying to play catchup as I'm going down the page. I downloaded another browser and I don't have the same problem with that one. I've turned the iPad off and on, cleared the history, etc. to no avail. Anybody have any advice.

    Hi gloworm,
If you are having an issue with the Safari web browser on your iPad performing slowly and you have already tried resetting the iPad, I would suggest the next step would be backing up any data you have on the iPad and then setting it up as a new device. See this article -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

  • Safari very slow downloading files

When I bought my MacBook Pro in 2009 I used Safari for few days then I switched to Firefox, and the reason for that is that downloading any kind of files goes very slow to around 5 KB/s while downloading the same file in any other browser is so fast. Now after the release of Safari 4 I thought this problem could be solved but here again the exact same problem and I really love the new safari except that this problem is really annoying me. By the way browsing is working perfectly fine.
    I have a 2 Mpbs ADSL connection.
    any idea?

Preference files retain information about the default and custom settings for a particular application. Also, they store information accumulated over time not directly related to a preference setting.
In Safari's case, this retained and accumulated information comes from a variety of sources within and outside of Safari. For example, 3rd party add-ons, such as Glims, store information in the preference file pertinent to their operation and settings.
Sometimes, corruption occurs if this information is incorrectly coded in the software. In that instance, as Safari accesses the preference file, it will crash due to a flaw in the data stream. Another example - updating Safari from one version to the next might trigger corruption if the 3rd party content within the preference file is not compatible with the new version's operation.

  • Safari very slow to load pages

Someone who help me with my Safari. Always that I want to go to a new page my Safari is very slow to load that page. It's loading the page for a long time without opening. I have done everything to fix it, but nothing has worked.
I have a Macbook Pro late 2011 with Yosemite 10.10.2 and my Safari is 8.0.3 version.
Here is a capture of what happens

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Follow the instructions in this support article. Any change?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the boxes marked Safari and Photos, if they're checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Safari VERY slow on MacBook.

My macbook has somewhat a lot memory left, but it seem that Safari has gotten slower. When i click on links, or try to use another tab for a link, it runs VERY slow for me, and sometimes wont even load. Is there anything i can do to speed up my browser?

If Safari is slow in another User account, you more than likely have a system-wide issue. I would suggest an Archive and Install.

  • Safari VERY slow -- any ideas?

Help! Safari has basically ground to a halt loading web pages on my G4 running Tiger 10.4.3, and/or I get weird error messages. I've tried lots of things suggested on boards -- fixing disc permissions, Unix repair function fsck, running MacJanitor and Onyx, dumping preference files, emptying caches and the icons folder, removing duplicate fonts, etc. -- but the problem persists. Any new ideas? It's driving me crazy! Many thanks.

    Hi:
Since writing my first post, I came across this page, which discusses the memory-hog aspects of Safari and slowness when multiple windows/tabs are open. This also led me to Privoxy which kills two birds with one stone. Privoxy enables a local proxy server that blocks a fair proportion of banner ads, especially those with Java animation. After installing the package, network settings must be altered to use a manual proxy server for http and https protocols: the server address is 127.0.0.1 on port 8118. So far it has worked well for me, improving speed when I have a lot of tabs open and blocking annoying ads as well.

  • Safari very slow on most sites real speed problems

    Hi there
I run an iBook G4 with 768mb ram. OS is 10.4.11 with Safari 3.0.4. Everything is up to date with no updates available. I have tested my connection via speedtest (which is UK compatible) and adslguide.org. Both indicate download speeds of a minimum of 5.5Mb. I have tested and tested over the last week and nothing has indicated that these speeds are incorrect. I have even disabled all phone sockets throughout my property to ensure that maximum speeds are available at the master socket.
I have a d-link wireless router and d-link modem. The only other things which use the connection are a nintendo wii and a couple of DS's, however this is rare during apple time!
Everything had been fine, prior to moving house. The d-links were happily packed in a box and I used the mac at my parents (which was slightly slower due to their slower connection but fine).
I have everything up and running in the new place, and after many tests have ensured that all is well regarding connection speeds. However safari is really crunchingly slow. Despite the speedtest, youtube is working very slowly and even cached pages load over a long period of time. The blue bar on many sites visited will only go over three-quarters of a given web address and it's driving me insane.
I've emptied the cache and reset safari on both users of the ibook, and run disk utility. It's not really improved things! Any other suggestions?

Is there anyway of reverting to Safari 2.x?
Not always a good plan. It would mean having to revert to OS 10.4.10.
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 uses Safari 3.0.4 which is not a beta. If Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard widgets etc also rely.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.0.4.
    As for speedtesting, I use

  • Safari very slow to open, then freezes

Safari takes about 2 minutes to open when I open it for the first time. After that, it is still slow. In fact, sometimes it will freeze and take a couple of minutes to unfreeze on its own. I also have Quicktime on my Windows XP computer and it has been suggested that in the Mac, the Quicktime plugins caused the problem with the delays. Assuming this may be correct, it shows eight plugins labeled "npqtplugin2.dll", "npqtplugin3.dll" etc. through number 8 in the program files. If I wanted to disable these which would I work with? Also, should this have this many?
I have tried to clean out the computer and disable applications (even the virus protection) and have reinstalled Safari a couple of times, but the delays were still there. I do use Java 6. I am open to any suggestions to solve this delay problem.
    Thanks

I have an issue with safari. At first it was fast to boot up. Then over the months it got slower and slower until just recently it would not boot up at all. When you click on the icon the hard drive acivity light comes on and stays on and the drive runs continuously but nothing ever boots up. The computer has to be restarted to get the drive to stop and behave normally. All other software runs normally, including Itunes. I have made sure I have all of the latest updates for both Apple and Windows. I have uninstalled safari and reloaded from the web site but it does exactly the same thing...it makes my hard drive run but that is it. Memory? I run other very large applications including drafting/rendering/animation and mech/elect cad programs with no such issues. Apple tech support won't respond to e-mails....
    Any suggestions?

  • Adobe AIR Apps + Safari = Very slow

    Hi everybody,
I'm experiencing a strange behaviour of my Adobe AIR Apps on iPad. I've tested several Apps now (one GPU-Heavy Game, one CPU-Blitting App, one pretty standard Puzzle) and all of them do have the same issue - as soon as Safari is running in the background it sometimes (not always.. and most likely on iPad1) slows my App down to 1fps. Until I close Safari again. I haven't ever seen any other App doing so, thus I believe it's an Adobe AIR bug. Maybe only on iPad though.
Does anyone know why this happens or if I can get around of that? Besides my Apps run superfast.
What I've tested so far is:
    - My memory usage is ~4mb. Doesn't seem to bother him if it's more or not
    - My GPU-Cache is held quite low (but even with empty GPU Cache this issue appears)
    - I'm using an Enter-Frame in all my apps which simulates the rendertick. Maybe this may be the fault?!
    Many thanks in advance,
    Marvin.

    Furthermore:
    - if the iPad was restarted you can have opened any iOS system-app without slowing down the Adobe AIR app
    - nevertheless after some hours this bug occurs again.
Our game is in stores now: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ifunnel-frenzy-hd/id457822239?mt=8 and many people send us bugreports because of it. As soon as I'm telling them to close iOS system-apps things work superfine again.
You can download and test this bug for yourself - I think this might be pretty self-explaining then.
I'm a bit struggling how to solve this.. honestly.

  • Safari very slow in L.A. Times blogs

Safari is painfully slow on the L.A. Times blogs. Firefox works well. Here is a link that took at least two minutes to load. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/05/judge-halts-teachers-strike.html
Any suggestions on how to speed Safari up for this blog? I do have the latest version of Safari 3.

The link loaded normally for me. Is this the only site you are having problems with? Safari can be fussy about DNS settings. Try using OpenDns. These settings will speed page loading, provide an extra layer of anti-phishing protection and content filtering.

  • Safari very slow on HTTPS connections, ocspd maxing processor

I noticed Safari was really increcdibly slow on Facebook and Google Maps in particular. I noticed lots of processor activity with 'ocspd' so I turned off HTTPS on Facebook and that fixed the sluggishness completely.
Google Maps is still incredibly slow though. It's fine with Chrome.
I also tried logging in as guest on my computer and there are no problems with Safari and maps loads almost instantly, so there must be something odd with my setup that's causing this.
    I am running 10.8.2 on a 2.7GHz 15" retina.

Select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar. In the text box that opens, enter
    /var/db/crls
From the folder that opens, move these two files to the Trash:
    crlcache.db
    ocspcache.db
You’ll be prompted for your administrator password when you do this. Then reboot, empty the Trash, and test.
