Safari vs Anything else

This page and ONLY this page, appears differently in Safari
than on any other browser. The central image on this page is
a jpg comprised of multiple pictures on a background that
numerically matches the site background color. For some
reason, in Safari, the color of the "image" background is
darker than the site color. In all other browsers it matches
perfectly. Any clue? Thank you.

Good grief. By moving to a GIF you have increased the image
weight
significantly, most likely. And you have degraded the quality
of those
images. For example, the weight of each of those thumbs is
now about
50-60K!

I know this has been solved as you reported, but I think you need to check with your e-mail provider. Did you also get this same e-mail on your computer? If you use the same ID for e-mail on computer and ipad, it should have appeared on both. It's very common spam. Check your computer to see if on it, the e-mail is in spam, or, if you deleted it on your ipad, check your recently deleted e-mails.
You might want to consider changing your password, though people sending spam, don't need it. My e-mail provider had me change my password, not because I was getting spam, but unknown to me, I was sending it! (You'll still get some spam, though.) It's when you learn that you're unknowingly sending spam...that you must change your password.

Your network preferences file may be damaged, that would explain why you can configure the computer and get online but then when the computer wakes from sleep and needs to restore the setting it cannot.
Open the Library folder of your computer (not the Library in your user directory) and then find the Preferences folder. Now the problem for me is that I've not used Leopard forever so I'm not sure exactly where the file you want is or what it is called. In Mountain Lion it is called:
com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
and it is inside a folder called SystemConfiguration. But I can't remember if this has changed along the way or not. The easy thing to do is to go back to the Network Preferences pane again and make the change I directed above. Then you can look in the Preferences folder and sort by date modified to find the network preferences file that was just now modified. Move it to the desktop, restart your computer, reconfigure the WiFi again and see what happens.

How can I reinstall Safari 8.0 without disturbing anything else? I have OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite & Safari 8.0 (that comes in it) installed on a MacBook Pro laptop and a Mac Mini tabletop computer. I want to access internet banking which goes without problems on the laptop but does not work on the tabletop. The latter says "somebody tried to display the application in a frame..." whatever that means and obviously for safety reasons I can not start banking it always comes back to the screen with this warning. I tried Mozilla FireFox on the tabletop Mini and everything works fine including the banking. A Mac expert suggested something is wrong with the Safari settings and I should reinstall it. How do I do this without reinstalling the System? Would it suffice to wipe out the Safari Preferences and start anew? I am looking for somebody's advice more experienced than I am. Thanks!

Before you try to do any uninstall/install stuff let me suggest you something:
Create a new user and check if the same happens within its account. You could do so by going trough the following steps:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Click the lock icon to unlock it, then enter an administrator name and password.
Click Add below the list of users.
Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user. - Standard user account would be perfect here.
Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Using a password hint is recommended to help the user remember his or her password.
Click Create User.
Now Logout from your account (⌘⇧Q) and Login to the one you have just created. This account is fresh without any changed settings(as a new instance would look like).
Check if the same would happen and you would see if this is an issue with your installation or something more general.

I have an iPhone 4S and it just locked me out from anything else BUT twitter??

I was using Twitter and went to click my home button...all of a sudden the screen went black. And when I clicked the home button again, it didn't take me to my lock screen, but back to Twitter. I did this multiple times and the same thing kept happening. I was seriously locked on my twitter app. It was exceptionally weird because the Twitter app was functioning perfectly. I could do everything on the app, but I seriously for the life of me could not get out of it!! Also, at the top of my screen where the time should be, it was completely blank. But only the time was gone, not my battery life or signal or anything else. It would probably also help to say that I do not have the iOS 7 update and my lock button is broken (I need a new phone desperately lol). Anyway, I tried to pull up the multitasking screen, but that wouldn't work. I tried to lock the phone with my assistive touch and that didn't work either. I finally was able to pull up Siri and have it search for something random. By doing that, I was able to unlock my phone and it took me to Safari. From there, my phone started working fine again. Now I know I fixed my own problem, but I REALLY don't want that to happen again. Can anyone explain to me what the heck just happened to my phone??

Those are going to be pretty basic steps, but they're still worthwhile and I'd start there.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, then you'll want to move on to this:

Make sure you run through all the applicable steps to the very end. I know the articles say iTunes Store, but the troubleshooting steps still apply to the App Store issues you're encountering.

Be sure Safari does not have the Block Pop-Up Windows preference set.
Where I work now there are several unencrypted VLANs that require authentication, and Safari promptly pops up a window for me to register every time.

I previously used Firefox on my old Mac G4 with OS 10.3.9; the above issue existed with that system and Firefox 2.00.2 (or similar). I then "tried" to move to a G5 Mac with OS 10.5, hoping that an updated Mac Operating system and updating Firefox would solve that problem.
I'm now working on my son's MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.8, 2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo; 2gb Memory; 2 gb 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
I still have a problem in Firefox Preferences trying to download .qif files. BofA Mortgage accounts only allow downloading of .qif files. My .qfx download works fine, but the error message is as follows:
The error message is that this is a corrupted file or one that Preview doesn't recognize.
and it is still a problem when trying to download Quicken .qif format files for our B of A mortgage.
The preferences for Firefox under File Helpers won't let me name the extension I want; instead, it CONFUSES .qif (Quicken Interchange Format) with .qtif (Quicktime Image Format) for Mac.
Therefore, when I download .qif files and try to import them to Quicken, I get a message that this is a corrupted file:

Well, in the end, I just gave up and deleted the photos, in the hope that it was something to do with them. Took some more photos and they seem to have imported without any problems at all.
Given that the same irksome photos loaded on the wife's macbook without so much as a murmur, how weird is that?

MBP suddenly extremely slow, checks return fine - anything else?

The issue: MBP had been working fine but all of a sudden it is frustratingly slow to the point it is near unusable. This literally happened overnight - it was fine, then I woke up to use the laptop and these issues occured. 95% of requests (clicking on something) are followed by a few sections of nothing, then the spinning pinwheel for anywhere from 5-30 seconds, this also happens when scrolling or opening web pages or writing things in word or on the web. I have just timed my boot up at 3.23mins and I have nothing that opens on boot up.
Spec: I am using an MBP mid 2012 model, 2.5Ghz Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 memory running OS X Lion 10.7.5. The 500GB hard drive has 323.13GB free space and 2.69GB free memory.
So far: I have removed any external additions, unplugged anything that was plugged in, disabled my firewall and turned off WI-FI - this didn't help. I have checked the CPU usage and the computer is having issues even when running at 95% idle. I just did the AHT which reported no issues and checked the HD in disk utility - it gave me both the brand, model, size of the HD which as far as I know means theres no hard drive issue (correct me if I am wrong). I also just finished backing up all my files on time machine which took about 2 days.
I know there have been similar threads which is where I got most of my troubleshooting noted above from. I am aware that it would also seem logical to take the laptop to get checked out at the apple store, however I am an international student at college in quite a remote area - the nearest apple store is at least 90 minutes away and I am unable to drive cars in the US. We do have a computer store on campus who have technicians however they charge regardless of if they can help - I am wondering if there is anything else I can do myself to fix the issues, or at least determine what might be causing them, before taking the laptop in to be seen as a last resort.
Any help at all would be greatly appreicated.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything suggested in this comment. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. It does nothing but produce human-readable data about the state of your computer. However, you need to be cautious about running any program at the behest of a stranger on a public message board. If you question the safety of the procedure suggested here — which you should — search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only run the test in safe mode, proceed anyway.
If you have more than one user, and the affected user is not an administrator, then please run the script twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The administrator is the user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the script will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important, so don't worry about it.
The script may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear in the Terminal window.
You can then quit Terminal. The output of the script will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. All you have to do is paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V again. If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary. Please don't copy anything from the Terminal window.
When you post the output, you might see in your browser the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. If that happens, please post the output on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Ignore the other post (the one from Brendan), he has no idea what he is talking about.
Read your manual (you have a bookmark to it in Safari on your iPhone or put iBooks on your iPhone and download the manual from the iBookStore) and it will show you how to remove the microSIM from your iPhone. AT&T is not tourist friendly and does not offer a pay as you go plan for visitors with an iPhone. If you are going to be here for a short time you can probably buy a pay as you go microSIM and use it before AT&T notices, if it is going to be for a long time that won't work.
There is a 3rd party company that will sell you a microSIM that will work with AT&T but they are pretty pricey.
Finally, you can get a pay as you go microSIM from T-Mobile to work with your iPhone but you will only have EDGE data speeds.

I'm playing Cityville on Facebook....since I updated my Firefox I am having a problem. It keeps popping up with a 'about blank' page, and will not let me play, send gifts or anything else.

when I try to send gifts, a popup window "about blank' shows up, and then it doesn't show my friends or anything else. I am having a hard time loading cityville, and am virtually unable to play the game.

So this is what I was talking about, and the small popup window plus the larger Window stating "Reported Phishing website ahead" will not go away and I cannot use Safari anymore even after I shut down my computer, disconnected it, and then signed on again and reopened Safari, it still takes me to that page and I cannot get out of it.

You may want to add more RAM to it right away. Also, if you plan on keeping it over a year, I would also suggest getting AppleCare.
Shop around the net. You can buy third-party RAM and AppleCare at a substantial savings.

Anything else i can do, re: wifi speed?

hi. i have mid10 macbook pro 13, 250gig hard drive but only 49 gigs used. i pay for 3mbs dsl from att, connected from their router to an airport express, which is on the shelf below the macbook pro. computer is basically pristine, no added programs, etc. using snow leapord. i'm getting about 2mbs download on speedtest.net. i reset safari, repaired disk permissions which only had 2 issues, and reset the router. is there anything else i can do to get that 2mbs closer to 3mbs? thanks.

iinami- How old is the airport express? Does it support 802.11n, and what about 5GHz band. You should be able to talk to the router with your AirportUtility.app
and make some adjustments. 2.4GHz will travel farther but 5GHz is faster.
Of course the new ones offer simultaneous dual-band support. This may just be the Extreme however?.
Router placement makes a difference experiment. YOu can see more by option click on the menulet in upper right.
You are still going to be limited by your DSL provider, there is always some lose and downstream sharing.

Firefox TripAdvisor comes up on desktop. I can't get to anything else. How do I get rid of it.

There are no details!!! When I click on my Mozilla Icon on desktop I get this miserable screen from TripAdvisor, whatever that is. I want it GONE. I can't get to my email or anything else. I'm not clever enough to know how to get rid of it. Why would Firefox do such a thing? I will be changing my browser. This is ridiculous!!

Another thing you can do is open up Firefox, click on the Firefox button, then click on "Add-ons", then click on Extensions. It is possible there is a trip-advisor addon that you have installed that you can disable or remove.
Also, click on Start, then control panel, then "Programs and Features". See if you have trip-advisor listed in there.
A few other basic trouble shooting tips and good things to do to ensure you are getting the best performance are:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].

iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?
