Safari website scrolling

Anyonw know if there is a better, free, alternative to Safari? I have noticed something that makes it not user-friendly which disappoints me about the iPad. Has anyone noticed that you cannot scroll within a box? For example, say you're filling out a survey for something and it asks what country or state you're from, you click on the drop-down menu and it drops down just like it ought to, but you cannot scroll through the states or countries, as dragging your finger down or up will just cause the entire Safari screen to scroll. To use a loose example of what I mean, it is like flipping through the photo's of apps in the app store. You can flick your finger right or left inside the box and the photo's would slide to the right or left. But not with the Safari app. I find that not being able to do this rather a disappointment and makes using the iPad in a situation where you do not want to turn on your computer for something as simple as filling out a survey or whatever else you sign up for or purchase or whatever when you are on the go. This is not really a rant, but I am wondering if it is a glitch that will be remedied soon in the next update or is it something that has always been a inconvenience? Also, will another web browser for the iPad work better than Safari?

Try a two finger scroll in those text fields. I used my iPad for about a month before I realized that a two finger works in text fields.
Look at Mercury, Atomic and the iCab web browsers int the App Store. My personal favorite is iCab which I use constantly. All three of these offer many more features than Safari does.
Now if we could only change our default browser on the iPad, that would be sweet. Unfortunately, we can't do that either with the current iOS software, so if you click on a link in an email, Safari will still open as the default browser on the iPad. I find that annoying!

  • Safari stops scrolling pages

Since recently upgrading safari and of course the OS to Mountain LIon, I have discovered a quite serious bug.
Randomly safari stops scrolling pages. This has so far happened 3 times in the last week or so. You can open/close/view pages, but even though the scrollbar is present it won't scroll. I cannot use my mouse wheel, or click in the scrollbar or use the space bar, page down key or even search the web page to force it move down.
The site I visit doesn't initiate the issue, it can be any website. The issue appears to be quite random, the only way to fix the issues is to close the browser and start it again.
I have currently 2 extensions running in Safari, Ultimate statusbar and Awesome screen grab., I am going to proceed to remove both to test if this fixes the problem.
However this is very frustrating as this has never been a problem in other version of Safari to date. I had to complete this question in Google Chrome, as of course I couldn't scroll to tee bottom of the page in safari!

Try resetting and clearing the cache more often.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select:  Clear History  (also empties the cache)
Deselect the remaining boxes then click Reset.
If that didn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy / paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go then move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • [Applescript] How do i make a script: "open a safari website - do something - something else - etc", run in the background before presenting the final result to the user?

I've made a script that does a certain "log in process". It opens a safari website-> does some actions -> opens a new website -> does some actions.
I dont want to "open" the final safari website before the script has ended.

The only way to do it, and even that doesn't always work, is by using a script. The basic code to use is:
    app.launchURL("http://www.google.com", true);
The second parameter tells the browser to open the link in a new window.

  • Website scrolls to the right in Firefox

my website scrolls to the right in Firefox but not in any other browsers. can anybody suggest how to fix? THX! the website is www.truthcafe.net

The DIV above it with the ads have floating elements. In such a case you need to add a clearing DIV to prevent content from being placed to the right of it. You can either add an extra DIV with style="clear:both" under the last DIV.ai (preferred). In that case you need to remove the height:35px from the containing DIV as well (width: 750px; height: 35px;). Or you can add the style="clear:both" to the DIV with the shifted content (<nowiki><div style="text-align: center; clear:both"></nowiki>).
You should always be careful with specifying the height. It is always better to let the browser do this in case of increased font sizes or other changes made by visitors.<br />

  • Safari 6 scrolling

Safari 6 scrolling is now jerky under Mountain Lion. I have an mid 2009 MBP and scrolling was really smooth on previous version of Safar/OS X.  Anyone else experiencing this?

I have an intermittent scrolling problem with Safari 6.0, running on OS X 10.7.4 -- Best example is scrolling up or down in a Google search, when it would shiver or shudder left and right with each scrolling.  Using on a late 2011 MBP, scrolling with two fingers on the track pad.  There are other little irregularities but that's the most odd.

  • Safari not scrolling & sometimes unresponsive

    Recently on my Intel iMac (but also on my Mac Book Pro) safari has had a couple of problems;
    1. Scrolling stops working at all - the only way around it is to refresh the page you are on.  It appears to be at random (in that I haven't found a common time or website that it happens to).
    2. Mainly on 'app' style / heavy websites (HTML5 etc), safari becomes unresponsive in the sense that you can't click on clickable items.  The mouse pointer doesn't turn into the hand which usually signifies something is clickable.  This is generally resolved by restarting safari, or simply reloading the page.
I don't know if they are related, but it's becoming a real problem.  Has anyone got any way to fix this?
I'm using Lion 10.7.3 on the iMac.
    Thanks in advance
    Ewan

Bradley, I'm talking about this one.  It was started six months ago, and the original poster has never returned.  So start your own new topic, and tell us just exactly what's happening with your Mac, what version of Safari you're running, and what your OS is.  We'll keep and eye out for you.

  • Safari websites: Jumbled numbers instead of text

I am having trouble viewing fonts on certain websites. They come out as a series of number all jumbled and overlapping with sub and superscripts.
I tried going to view and setting it on either of the Western settings, but that didn't work.
I also read that long article about making sure you have certain fonts
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607630&#607630
but it looks like things are in place...I have all of the system fonts they require.
Maybe I should read it again and try not to fall asleep this time, but I am hoping it is something simple someone might know about. Not to mention, I don't want to reinstall anything...
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    NB
p.s. I recently did delete a couple of corrupt fonts that appeared shortly after I installed a bunch of new fonts on my computer.

I'm having the same problems. Now, I've done all that the forums have suggested, but I'm still having the problem. Moreover, it's also doing the same thin in the Mail application.
When I use Explorere or Netscape, I don't have this issue. Should I just re-install Safari and Mail?
Finally, I don't have Helvetica Fractions and the problems really started after a client sent me a bad font. This font has been removed and re-installed, I use Suitcase, but still have the problem.

  • Safari Keychain and Safari website identy problems

Recently, within the last 10 days, I've been getting a dropdown while in Safari that says " safari can't verify the identify website". This even occurs while accessing Apple. While not a big problem it is a nuisance. Does anyone know does apple have a fix in the works for this? Or is there a way to fix it. Also about 90% of the time when online I get a dropdown that states" Safari wants to use Keychain login". When I originally set up system Apple support advised me to delete keychain icon from main application screen, this I did, but keychain also exists under utilities icon. When I try to delete it here I get a message saying it can't be done because keychain is open. I can't find anyway to close it so I may delete it, any suggestions? Thanks

    hey Delmer
    welcome to the apple fourms
one thing that would come to mind here would be what verison of the OS are you running? 10.3 or 10.4 i would guess one of those so i would try these
your key chair in utilities you should not delete i find it strange that apple would just tell you to delete something like that what i would try doing is opening the keychan access in the utility folder where you can show your key chains there should be a certificate in the applications for safari which you can just delete off the list
if that doesnt work then click on keychain access in the main menu bar and run keychain first aid as well as a disk utility verifiy the disk and repair the permissions for this

  • Safari cannot scroll up and down.it is 'frozen'

Safari. Can open an adress on safari however the page is ,grey, and will not scroll up and down. It is completely frozen, so i cannot use internet at all. Any ideas what to do?

Start with the third suggestion in this list - the one about resetting Safari.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Reset Safari. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Quit Safari and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Website scrolls horizontally when I only want it to scroll up and down? help!

My wedding website is a one page website.
    www.nicklovesindia.com
I had anchors scrolling to the left. I fixed that problem but now it scrolls back and forth horizontally.
I made all the images 100% width but I do not understand why it still scrolls back and forth, I tested it on all browsers.
    Any help is much appreciated!

    Hi,
I checked your site and I didn't get any horizontal scroll bar. Can you please confirm whether or not you are still facing the issue?
    Regards.

  • Safari is scrolling a pdf opened in a tab when I try to scroll another tab

Both tabs scroll when I do this. How can I fix it?

No problem     might be a cache issue ...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Safari not scrolling to bottom of webpage

I have noticed that safari seems to stop allowing scroll down to the bottom of some web pages - no apparent rhyme or reason, but the side scroll bar refuses to let it scroll beyond a certain point - often cutting off pictures and/or text. Has anyone else seen this? and if so, is there a fix?
    Thanks

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Since you are running Snow Leopard, if you are running Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, try 64. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
If Safari still crashes, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari.
