Ecnal, if it is a non-DRM .wmv file, you can download and install Flip4Mac Windows Media Components for QuickTime.

  • Safari does not play movie stream

Does anyone have any idea why Safari does not play the movies on the web page
    http://www.3sat.de/delta/
You can find them under "Web-TV" (you have to click a little bit until a small window opens which has a button called "video starten" at the bottom right).
I believe the movies are reaplayer video streams.
Needless to say that the movies work just fine in Firefox ...
Any ideas, hints, pointers will be appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Gabriel.

    Hello Gabriel,
The video does play for me in a popup window via realplayer.
it also has the option to open in WMP.
    Web TV
It will not play in realplayer itself, when i click for it to play in real Player this

Safari is also picky about code, this one is not the poorest & it does work for me so it seems something is interfering in your user account or computer,.
Have you tried the site in a test account if not that would be telling.
Let us know if it works there.

  • Safari Will Not Play Flash Games or Videos on my account but will on others

As of last night my MacMini will not play videos at mlb.com, YouTube.com or flash games at ClubPenguin.com. When I log out of my account on the same computer and log into my kids' accounts it will play all of the above mentioned sites quite well. The problem cannot be with the websites not being compliant with Safari since they are playing normally on my kids' account on the same computer using the latest version of Safari.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   iBook, iMac, iPod, iPod Mini, iPod Nano

Well most issues are either A. system wide, or B. User specific.
In this case the issue was user specific because it happend only in your user, not your kids accounts.
There are prefernce files (plists) for pretty much everything. When something goes wrong, a good place to start is to pull relevent plists from YOUR user library. home>library>preferences
If this issue was system wide and happening in all accounts, you would start pulling plists from the library under your hard drive. harddrive>library>preferences.
When the machine is restarted or logged off after pulling these, when you log back in the preferenece files are regenerated back to standard settings.
Yes you can trash those plists now with no problem.
excuse my spelling errors, im typing while on break for 5 min!
    hope this helps

  • Safari will  not play streaming video or audio

    Hi everyone,
I have had my iBook for a year and never even tried to take advantage of streaming video or audio b/c I had a dial-up connetion until very recently. Now that I have a high speed connection I would like to watch trailers and listen to music on myspace. I cannot watch trailers at www.apple.com/trailers/ or any video on myspace.com. Nor can I listen to music (I think they are xml files) on myspace.com. I'm currently running on Mac OSX 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.1. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Christopher

    Hi
Well I have the opposite effect here - the video plays fine on my MBP, yet not on my Intel iMac. On the iMac the video panel never appears. Rather tells me it needs Flash.
Safari is the same on both systems (or at least that's what I think). No plugin blocks are present. To test if the Preference files might be causing the problem, On the iMac, I moved to the desktop from the Macromedia folder in ~/Library/Preferences folder the folder inside the SharedObjects folder. Restarted the system/Safari but the video still does not play.
In the past, Layers magazine has not been a problem, however, I haven't viewed one for several months. Given what others have posted, there seems to be an oddity here that is not machine or Safari specific. I'll have to investigate more when I have time tomorrow.
Try the Video from another user account. See if this is system-wide, or just specific to your user account. BTW, video played fine on the iMac in Firefox.

  • Safari will not play .mp4 movies

I upload a .mp4 movie to my server and Safari cannot play it. It displays a mass of numbers and such.
I found an article online that says to add a .htaccess file to my server at the, infamous, "root level"... what's this guy smokin'??? Could this possibly work? Has anyone had a similar experience with Safari not playing .mp4 videos? (They play just fine in QT Player)
    Thanks

If you are having problems playing MPEG4 video in Quicktime 7.4 (and Apple are aware that some users have had such problems) you should carefully check in
    /Library/Quicktime and
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins and
    Home/Library/Quicktime
to check whether you have any third party plug-ins that are not completely up to date.
Current versions of Flip4Mac and DiVX and Perian do NOT cause failure alone or in combination. However the one SPECIFIC extension that ALWAYS causes the failure alone or in groups is 3ivxMediaImp. All other 3ivx extensions DO work. Remove only that ONE SPECIFIC extension.
Please try this and see if it fixes your problem with QT Player, the QT Firefox Plugin, and iTunes not playing MPEG4 files (including mp4 files).
Older 3ivx and DivX components are often incompatible with new QuickTime versions and are, in many cases, obviated by component packs like Perian.
This is not the only explanation for issues with MPEG4 file playback in QuickTime 7.4 and later, however. The issue with videos from democracynow.org and others, for instance, is the result of that content not complying with MPEG4 standards (namely that they use bogus track dimensions). QuickTime had previously ignored invalid track dimensions but this was changed in order to support properly authored anamorphic content.
The recent update to QT 7.4.1 has fixed a number of issues but some problems are unavoidable when working with non-standards compliant content. The standards are important for many reasons including keeping hackers from manipulating improperly coded web pages.
However, there is a workaround (also the basis for why those files will still play in iTunes): there are a few ways to trick QuickTime into ignoring the invalid track data. For instance, rename the files .3GP and they'll show up just fine.
Post back if you want a list of the plug-ins you should have in order to play pretty much anything in Quicktime.

  • Safari will not play mp4 over HTTPS

    Hello,
I have a file, sample.html, which contains only the following code:
    <html> <body>
    <video width="600" autoplay loop poster="placeholder.jpg">
    <source src="sample.mp4" />
    </video>
    </body> </html>
The mp4 file referenced is the one downloaded from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1425
When I use Safari to access my page via http://myserver.com/sample.html the video plays without problem.
When I use Safari to access my page via https://myserver.com/sample.html only the placeholder image is displayed.
Using Safari 7.0.6 on Mac OS X 10.9.4
I have used http://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html to check that SSL is correctly configured for my domain and it reports no problems.
How can I make the video play in Safari when accessed over https?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Videoplayback.flv file downloaded from YouTube video via Safari will not play

    Hello All,
Here is my question to you:
Has Safari been altered in such a manner as to NOT allow you to download videos direct from YouTube to your Mac without some intermediary interface?
Here are the steps I would use to download the source .flv video file from a video on YouTube to save it on my MacBook Pro:
    1. Open Safari.
    2. Go to http://www.youtube.com.
    3. Enter name of video to view/download in the search bar and hit 'enter'.
    4. Start video.
    5. While video is playing:
         A) Click on 'Window' in Safari's menu bar at the top of the screen.
         B) Select 'Activity'.
    6. A window will open showing data status of the video.
    7. Locate the largest loading file size and wait until it is finished loading.
    8. Double-click on that file size.
    9. A small 'Downloads' window will appear showing file download status.
    10. Navigate to your 'Downloads' folder and drag the file named 'videoplayback.flv to the desktop.
    11.  Double-click the aforementioned file to start the video in a suitable .flv player (I was using SWF & FLV Player originally).
This process no longer works.  All I get is a black screen when I double-click the downloaded .flv file.
    Notes:
The file size in Step 7 above would vary accordingly to the length of the video, but now every video I try to save as a .flv is approximately 1.7MB no matter how long the video is.  Something isn't right here.
I had originally downloaded and used SWF & FLV Player to view my video when the above process used to work, but now it has upgraded itself to Elmedia Player and wants me to upgrade to the PRO edition to be able to download videos from YouTube.
Any insight to this will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for reading and responding to my question!
    Sincerely,
    - Austin C.

Thank you for your timely response and suggestion, Mr. Davis!
I did exactly as you said, made sure there was NO trace of the Elmedia player anywhere on my machine after the uninstallation procedure, but unfortunately this did not work.
When I dropped the videoplayback.flv file into the VLC player, I get this error message:
There is something deeper going on within Safari, I believe.  The fact that different length videos on YouTube all yield the same 1.7MB file size when I try to download them is puzzling.
    Thoughts?

  • Safari will not play audio from the NPR website.  Thoughts?

When I try to stream from
    http://www.npr.org/music/allsongs247/
I hear no audio.  If I use another browser on my iMac it works fine.
Looking for suggestions to fix this for Safari!
    Thanks

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here, and do not speak for "Apple Inc."
The NPR page uses Flash, and apparently does not have an equivalent HTML5 page.
If you're using Click-To-Flash and/or Click-To-Plug-in in Safari, make sure Flash is permitted on the page in question.

  • Safari will not play audio.

Safari stopped playing audio for me on my MacBook Air.  The audio on the computer works because i can get audio with full volume when i play a file on iTunes.  Please help me with what might be wrong.

  • Safari will not play video

I upgraded just recently to Safari 6.0.1.I am now unable to play any videos from the internet. I had no problems prior the software update. I am using a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.7.5.

Very important to uninstall the old Flash plugins frst before reinstalling new.
Uninstall >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
    Then reinstall new >  http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=JZEFT
Then open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advacned tab.
    Click: Delete All
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a video.

  • Videos will not play unless mouse is moving or scroll used

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina 15-inch mid-2014) with an Intel core and the most recent OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
Whenever I try to play a video on YouTube, Vimeo, or the like Safari will not play it unless I move the mouse around or engage the scrolling option on the mousepad.  Sometimes it plays the video, but not smoothly at all.  The audio plays normally as before the video problem occurred.
For some reason, some advertisements seem to play fine, while others have the same problem.
I looked up some solutions on Apple and some non-Apple support pages and they did not fix this problem.
My Safari browser is up-to-date (version 8.0), I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash player, and I don't have ANY extensions installed and none of my third-party plugins/add ons that would mess with the video playing.
When I ran into this problem, I also had an issue with Facebook loading any images (profile pictures, thumbnails for profile pictures and shared video links, shared photos, similar things like that) and the videos uploaded to Facebook would not have an image either, nor would they load.  I emptied the Safari cache and even manually put the cache.db file into my trash and emptied it out.
I may have tried some other things out as well, but I think this is what solved the lack of loading images, but it didn't solve the video playing (obviously).
    What do I do?
    Thank you!

    1. System Preferences >  Flash Player > Advanced >  Delete  All
         Press the "Delete All" button.
        Install Adobe Flash Player.
        http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
       Download it first.
        The next step is important.
Click Safari in the menubar and select “Quit Safari”.
Follow the prompts and install it.
        Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
    2.  Allow  Plug-in.
        Safari > Preferences > Security
       Internet Plug-ins >  "Allow  plug-ins"
        Enable it.
    3. Safari > Preferences > Privacy
Press the button “ Remove All Website Data”.
      4. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari again.
Turn those on one by one and test.

  • Streaming flash video will not play automatically. Must move the mouse off the link

I have 4 computers, all running Win7. On every one, Internet explorer. 2 have firefox 3. 2 have firefox 4. When clicking a link on a website that has live streaming video (flash) - the stream changes to the next one and the video feed begins right away. Works fine on all 4 computers in IE, and in both Firefox 3. The video starts when the mouse is clicked, or when the screen is refreshed. On both computers with firefox4 - the mouse click loads the new feed, but the video hangs on a white screen until the mouse pointer moves. same problem when the feeds are set to auto-rotate. they load every 30 seconds, but unless I physically move the mouse, no video plays (or click the 'next feed' button again, which gives a split-second peek at the video feed I am navigating away from), I need to monitor many security cameras, and this is excruciating. Safe mode does not help. I have the newest versions of everything. please tell me this is a bug and not someone's bright idea

  • ITunes purchased videos and all DRM movies will not play on iOS 8 devices when streamed from an external drive (or streamed from other wireless devices). Any solution in sight?

Video streaming of DRM movies, purchased from iTunes and other vendors, to any iOS device is not working.

I am not sure if you really understand the issue at hand. Possibly that you are just scanning, not reading the whole text, or simply that you just want to close a thread with your last words or derail it for whatever strange reason. So far you have been more destructive than helpful, but again this could be ignorance at best.
If you would have had the decency to read the entire thread you would have come to the conclusion that every manufacturer, I came across, has posted FAQ's to this issue but Apple. Find a short excerpt below:
SeaGate  http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/006135en?language=en_US <http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/006135en?language=en_US> Playing DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected movies in Seagate Media App Information regarding remote streaming of DRM protected movies. Most forms of DRM (Digital Rights Management) will prevent playing movies on unauthorized devices or from remote storage hosted on wireless drives or NAS drives(Seagate Wireless, Seagate Wireless Plus, Seagate Central or Seagate Personal Cloud). Movies purchased from iTunes can be streamed to iOS 6 and iOS 7 devices which were authorized from remote storage (the video could be selected in Seagate Media App and would be played in a Safari browser), however in iOS 8 this has stopped working. A bug has been filed with Apple, however this functionality has not been restored. Therefore, DRM protected movies purchased on iTunes can no longer be played on devices running iOS 8.
SanDisk  http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16668/kw/itunes <http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16668/kw/itunes> Videos purchased or rented from iTunes will not play in iOS 8 The SanDisk Wireless Media Drive and Wireless Flash Drive support streaming of DRM protected iTunes purchased movie content to authorized devices in iOS 6 and iOS 7 ONLY. The DRM protected content is opened in Safari where the DRM is decrypted and the video is played. iOS 8 issue In iOS 8 Apple device has NOT enabled Safari based DRM decryption. Therefore DRM protected content, i.e. purchased movies or TV shows from iTunes, CANNOT be streamed from the Media Drive/WFD in iOS 8. This issue has been reported to Apple. We do not have any estimated date when Safari will support DRM decryption of iTunes purchased content.
in contrast: here is the excerpt from the Apple Store http://store.apple.com/us/product/HFSQ2VC/A/sandisk-connect-64gb-wireless-media- drive?fnode=12ea113d2dba9883d5561c573d91…
    Overview
With the SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive and its companion app, you're free to share and stream high-definition content between your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch or Mac devices without a cable connection. Simply connect wirelessly from your iOS device to the media drive and instantly stream your HD movies, browse photos and listen to music from around the house or on the go, while avoiding the common hassles of cables, attachment limits or Internet availability

Here are the remaining issues that we are aware of in the iOS 8 general release: • Video streaming of DRM movies (purchased from iTunes and other vendors): iTunes purchased videos and all DRM movies will not play on iOS 8 devices when streamed from AirStash (or streamed from other wireless devices). These movies are digitally protected and the AirStash app sends them to the Safari browser to play (which works for all prior iOS versions). However, in iOS 8, Safari will no longer allow DRM movies to play. These movies will play when the video is transferred to the iPhone/iPad and played in the Apple's Video App or the corresponding App from the vendor.

If this is the case and Apple will not address this issue or fix it since Apple believes that movies should be protected this way, you need to let the community know that movies are restricted this way. Re: Streaming itunes DRM movies to safari on iPad not working - IOS 8 issue? [ Edited ] Options 11-06-2014 03:19 PM - edited 11-06-2014 03:22 PM Actually, this is not something we can NOT fix. It appears that Apple finally fixed an issue they had with their movie DRMs. The files should have never played in the first place. [Edit] If you have an issue with this, you will need to take it up with Apple. Click the Kudos star to say thank you for helpful posts. And be sure to come back to click the 'Accept as Solution' button for the post that solved your issue. This may help someone else.

I live in the UK but visit the US regularly. I plan to buy a MacBookPro in the US but have read that it will not play UK DVD's. Is this so? If so, is it possible to change the codes?

All modern & new Macs can play both PAL and NTSC DVDs.  I do it all the time and it works perfectly.
The DVD drive is set to its first region code when you first play a DVD in it.  So when you buy a Mac, whatever type of DVD you play first will determine the initial region code that is set.   If it's a PAL/Region 2 DVD it will set the DVD drive to region 2.
The only thing you have to watch out for is if you have a collection of DVDs that have different region codes.  In those cases you may be faced with changing the region code in the DVD drive in order to play one or more of the DVDs; and as others have noted there is a limit to the number of times you can change the region code (most modern DVD drives allow up to 5 changes; the 5th change becomes the permanent change).  This is due to industry licensing practices.
If you have DVDs that are Region 0 or All Regions you don't have to worry about region codes.
