Safari will only load secure https pages

Just encountered an issue today where safari will only load secure https pages.  Any page that doesn't begin with https gets the "safari can't connect to the server" error.  I can connect to all pages using firefox or chrome on the same system.  I have emptied cache and reset safari except for password info.  Still no luck.  Using Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2) on OSX 10.6.8

Gah nevermind my nephew was using my account and kept clicking the littlesnitch notifications to make them go away.  Little bugger managed to block everything on port 80 http.  Time to set up a guest account.

This is a strange one...after a period of time of operating normally, suddenly firefox will only load secure websites.
I have turned off my firewall and turned off my cybersitter and it still only loads secure sites.
    Any thoughts.

Probably a good idea to uninstall and then reinstall safari. I got service pack 3 and safari just disappeared, I have reinstalled it and had no problems (other than a 'SPELLING AND GRAMMAR ERROR' pop up as per my other post!
    Hope that helps.

    Do you have APP?
Does this happen all the time? Does it happen on a specific site? What internet connection do you have?

  • Talk Talk wifi connection but safari will not load any web pages?

I have a new Ipad and it is connected to TalkTalk wifi. But the problem is that Safari will not load a single web page?
Are there any known issues with this problem. My PC connects to the same wifi network and is running fine.
The build bar for the web page I try to access turns 3/4 blue but then gives an error message, 'cannot connect to server'
TalkTalk call centre kept saying that they do not support Ipad? But would not elaborate!
Apple call centre updated IOS 6.1.2 and reset network settings but no solution as yet.
Do I need to take this back?
Has anyone had a similar problem?

  • Safari will not load selected https/ssl sites

    Hello all,
I seem to be having what I believe to be an SSL certificate issue with the site https://my.pocketsmith.com/login . I am able to load the front page just fine (www.pocketsmith.com), but I have been totally unable to load either of the secure my.pocketsmith.com (pricing & login) pages which are linked at the top of the front page.
I am also unable to load the certificate info data when I click on the "lock" in the address bar after the page fails to load. It's like Safari doesn't want to deal with the certificate at all.
As far as I can tell the certificate is issued by GeoList and checked by Experian - I think that's how it works - for my.pocketsmith.com.
I'm running Windows 7 through a straight connection (no proxy).
I am able to access both of the SSL pages without issue on Chrome and IE 8.
I have no Safari 5 extensions or add-ons installed.
The error message Safari displays is:
"Safari can’t open the page “https://my.pocketsmith.com/login” because Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server “my.pocketsmith.com”."
I've eliminated as many things as I can think of, to include updating the Thawte, Experian & GeoTrust root certs, deleting ALL SSL certs and starting over, resetting Safari (clear cookies, history, cache, etc.) several times, uninstalled/reinstalled Safari, uninstalled my antivirus software (NOD32), disabled Windows firewall, deleting all of the Safari 5 DNS pre-fetch files (the entire Safari folder in my user folder actually), switched my DNS server settings to both the Google and OpenDNS addresses, uninstalled/reinstalled Java (latest release), uninstalled/reinstalled Flash.....umm, that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
    Still no joy.
I've read in a couple forums that it's possible there's a java script running that may not be compatible with Safari 5's security settings. Have also heard that it's possible the SSL cert. on the back end needs to be updated. No idea how plausible either of those theories are, but I've written PocketSmith to see if I can find out.
In the mean time I'm stuck using either IE or Chrome, neither of which I'm overly fond of. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue that they were able to get to the bottom of (I read the 1st 20 pages of the forum and wasn't able to find the exact same issue).
    Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I also read somewhere that someone had traced a similar issue to a problem with TLS 1.x (don't remember which, sorry...) and/or SSL 3.0. In other words, it's possible that it's a protocol problem and not necessarily a certificate problem. However, Safari doesn't seem to have an option to check these settings built in - does it just use whatever the IE settings are or is there some way to manipulate them directly in Safari?
    Thanks again.

    Hi
From your description, it seems the proxy server codes are correctly established in your System Preferences>Network panel, otherwise Camino would not work (uses the same Network settings as Safari).
I suspect the problem exists with the Proxy server relative to Safari. Have you spoken with your IT department, or whomever is in charge of the Network?

  • Safari will not load the home page when I open it. It defaults to last open window. I set preferences to go to home page but Safari decides otherwise.

Mac Mini - Yosemite 10.10.1 The home page in 'Safari Preferences > General > Home Page' will not load when I start the computer (automatic log-in). Safari is ticked to open at log-in. It opens with the last previous web page displayed prior to shutting down the computer.
I have looked in 'System Preferences' > General but did not find anything relevant. Ditto 'Security' and 'Privacy'

From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Safari Won't Load Some 'https:' Pages

For the past week or so, my old trusty G3 (running 10.4.11, all software updates current) is having a problem with certain https: pages - typically ones that are brought up right after logging into a service like AOL Webmail (and unfortunately Apple Discussions, too). What is supposed to happen is the interim page gets processed and then automatically goes on to a "welcome" page or similar. What actually happens is the page either loads fully and then nothing, leaving a blank page leading nowhere and without completing the login sequence, or stalls on loading (with a half-done progress bar... indefinitely).
Checked all my network proxy settings - they're OK. Can access all standard http and most other https pages just fine.
Cleared cache - no effect. Reset Safari - no luck. Shut down, restarted, etc... still have the problem.
Downloaded & installed Firefox 2.0.0 on the G3. With Firefox, I had no problems at all processing the pages. So it doesn't seem to be the target webpages or the network connection. However, Firefox is slooow on the G3 - so I'd rather use Safari.
Other Macs of mine running 10.4.11 & latest Safari are showing no problems of this type (or else I wouldn't be writing this).
Any suggestions? Any other place I need to be looking or anything else I need to hunt down / delete / reinstall / fix?

You have already done some of this, but try:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions.
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
If not, MacFixit have published a very detailed (very!) article on speeding up a slow Safari, here:

  • Safari will not load secure connection sites

Greetings. First time on this forum because of my Safari's malfunctioning.
Two days ago Safari no longer allowed me to access secure connection (https) sites. That includes this one, I registered here and am currently on firefox.
I'm currently running Safari: 1.3.2 (v312.6), a far cry from the recent edition.
Say, for example, I wish to access my email account with Safari (yahoo mail). I receive this error message:
"Safari can’t open the page “https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?&.src=ym” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “login.yahoo.com”."
This same message occurs when I try to access any secure page.
Please help, I'm hoping there is some setting that only needs to be tweaked a little in order to get my Safari back! Again, this only began happening two days ago.
I sought help from the Help Viewer for Safari, but it recommended I download the most recent version of Safari. I can't, because that requires secure access! How very frustrating, as all my web settings and data are in Safari.
Thank you very kindly for any help.
    Other info:
    Mac OS X Version 10.3.9

Writing back to report a success (of sorts). When I went to the Genius Bar in a local store, this is what they determined: the problem was not local within my user, it was system-wide. They were not able to determine the location of the library or plist that was corrupted, so I went home and did an archive-and-reinstall. This has fixed the original problem. However, I had to go back in this morning because although it appeared to be wiped out with no programs working and no old files available in the "previous system" folder, it really did save the entire old system, eating up ~7GB of space, so they had to find it, create a new user, load everything into the new user, and trash all of the old stuff. The programs weren't working because the archived programs were updated and the old system I loaded was not, so they weren't compatible. So if you want to go through all of that, two days later and in the midst of erasing 97,000 some-odd files, everything is working fine and my computer is in fact faster than it's been in a long time.
To archive-and-reinstall from home, first back up your drive just in case and make an appt. at the genius bar for tomorrow morning to get all your stuff back. Then get out your installer disk (I had to use disks 1 & 2), insert it into your drive, restart your computer while you hold down the C (the letter C) key until the rotary dial under the apple symbol starts turning. Then follow the steps. When it asks where you want to install the new system, click on your hard drive. It will give you an error message saying that you already have a system there, so click on options. This will show you the option to do an archive and reinstall. Make sure that is checked and that the box next to "preserve network and user settings" is also checked. Then let it go and do its thing. It will take a little over an hour or so. And then you'll panic and be like, "where's my stuff?!" and the genius bar people will put it all back for you and trash the old system. Voila! Even the picture on your desktop will be there. And you can get into your bank and email etc. It's a pain and it might not be worth it to you (I for instance got a parking ticket while in the Apple store), but it worked.

  • Safari will not load any web pages

I choose safari and the apple home page comes up.
The problem is when I want to go to yahoo or TSN web pages they do not totally load and keeps reloading 3 or 4 times and then Safari comes up and says>
"Safari cannot display this web page"   and
"Safari has repeatedly encountered an error while trying to display"
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to correct this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari suddenly only loading Yahoo spoof page

I'm concerned I may have a worm or something in my iPhone. Suddenly today I am unable to load any page except a page featuring Yahoo searches and Facebook, but the web address is a bunch of numbers and letters. I didn't do anything odd with my phone today. I was wondering if I should re-sync my phone, but I'm afraid if I've got a virus or worm or something it'll infect my computer. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I'd greatly suggest contacting 800-My-Iphone. If you're outside of your warranty that's ok, they will still talk if it's just a general question. They may be able to send you some links to help topics that have already been covered by that?
Sorry I wasn't of more help, that's the only info I have.

I tried upgrading to version 4.0, but Facebook still won't load. I can't find a toolbar on my screen that has the tools button, so I am unable to clear my cache or cookies.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.<br />

This is favorites or if I type into the browser bar.
Is this a result of the recent upgrade to the iOS?

Is there a way to restore this iPad to factory settings and reload my data from the cloud?  Am I being to impatient here? Like I expressed in another reply to my original post, ever since iOS 8 this iPad has been very slow and problematic..  Almost to the point of making me hate it.
Before iOS 8 I loved all of my Apple products, MacBook Pro, iPad, 3rd iPhone, iPod Touch, iPod Nano and Apple TV device. But this iOS is not good for older products and I just can't run out a upgrade when a new iOS is released.
Sorry to vent, but this is happening at a very bad time.....

  • Safari will only load if connected via LAN line, not wifi.

My safari hangs when I try to connect to it via wifi, firefox works fine. I have just got Lion to see if that would fix it but it hasn't, cleared cache and reset numerous times. I cannot get software updates via aifi either, it says I am not connected but then tells me the connection appears to be working correctly when i check it!
Canot access iTunes store either, again unless I use a Lan cable.
Driving me potty, and now it will not connect to my apple account through facetime either.
    Any ideas please??

Try configuring your proxy settings manually. They should be the same for the wired and wireless connections, unless you're connecting to different networks.
