Safari Window is invisable or not showing on the desktop.

If I open safari, it will show up on a right click as an open window but the window never appears. I could get on the internet until I downloaded an app from the app store the allowed me search the web where I downloaded Firefox which is what I'm working on now. Safari is still invisible. I click it, it bounces and for all intense and purposes it's on but the window is nowhere to be found. So does anyone have any advice to get the safari window visible again? It worked this morning just fine but around noon it went, pffft! I don't like Firefox. I'm not sure what happened, I'm guessing it's something simple that's blocking it.

Your problem could be the Community Toolbar.
It's a terrible app/plugin that messes up Macs like the plague.
Did you ever install a customized toolbar? Like a Facebook one? Or for watching sports?

Close Safari.
Check here for CT Loader:
HD/Library/Application Support/Conduit
HD/Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
HD/Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
HD/Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
HD/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
HD/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
It may not be in every single location, but get it out where ever you find it.
If you found it and deleted CT files, Restart Safari. Any Better?

How do I eject a dvd from the drive when it does not show on the desktop? I tried restarting and the drive makes noise but does not eject the dvd.

Hold down the mouse button while restarting. This should eject any disc in the drive.

I installed a new hard drive on my mac book pro and it is not showing on the desktop

Installed a new SSD hard rive because the old one died. It is not showing in my desktop so I can transfer my files ( decided not to use time machine but to transfer manually.
On the preferences window, the startup disk is showing with a question mark but when I click on it, it shows the hard drive , which has already been initialized and the OSX ( Mavericks) installed.

Ok go to "Finder" preferences and make sure the "Hard disk" box is checked.
That will make your boot disk show up in the upper right corner. You can tell it's a boot disk because all the files will look like this instead of just being blank files.

An add-on can put its icon on the bar automatically if it likes, but some add-ons do one of the following:
* Add an item to the Tools menu
* Add an item to the right-click menu (depending on the context)
* Put a button in the button palette so you can add it to a toolbar if you like (''to call up the button palette, use'' View > Toolbars > Customize ''or right-click a blank area after the address box on the Navigation Toolbar and choose Customize from the pop-up menu'')
Also, you might want to double-check that the add-on is enabled.
Tools > Add-ons > Extensions
If you have the orange Firefox button, it's Firefox > Add-ons > Extensions
Does that help? (If you have problems with a particular extension, you could mention which one it is for more specific comments.)

How to eject a CD that does not show on the desktop

I have a CD in my superdrive but it doesn't show on the desktop so I can't drag it to eject. I tried shutting down, unplugging, then powering up again but that didn't work. Any ideas?

I have received notification that my app has successfully passed certification to be included in the Windows Phone Store. But I don't find
it in store with public link . Can you tell me why it is not found on the market ? . How do I fix it ?

Whether or not there is a problem at the moment is beside the point. Whether there is a problem or not, the usual publication time varies from ~1 hour to several days. If an app is not on the store within a couple of hours it's still within the normal
timeframe; if it's not in the store after 3 or 4 days there may be an issue.
I don't know why there are so many posts from people expecting their app to be live in the store the minute they get an email. Microsoft need to do a better job of advising developers of the publication process.
Your problem is not the same as OP's, and neither is the updating issue you linked to.

Files not showing up the desktop

Today I had a problem, and had to force quit ITunes. When that didn't work, the only option left was to force quit Finder, then restart. No problem, it started okay but none of the documents and files came up on the desktop. They are still listed in the finder window, but not on the desktop. If I click randomly on the desktop a document or file may show up. Help! How do I get them all back like I had before I force quit the Finder (where I can actually see them on the Desktop)?

Are you sure they were saved to the desktop, and not some other folder? (Spotlight can tell you where they really are.)
Default is the Documents folder.

iMovie 11 is opening on my Macbook Pro, BUT the window is not visible. Pressing cmd m makes it appear but in the dock but when I try to open it it moves rapidly into the top right hand corner of the screen.

Be patient.. when you open the Time Machine display the indexing can take several hours to work.. and if you updated to Mavericks longer.
Strongly recommend no wireless.. use wired connection and turn off wireless.. it is just plain slow over wireless.
Wait for it to populate. If it fails you can force the connection to previous backups manually in finder.. but it is painful and difficult to find what you want.

USB Drive and iPod do not show up on desktop

Hello,
I put the computer to sleep when I'm going to be away for awhile and overnight. When I come back and wake it, my USB drive does not appear on the desktop. I have to restart the iMac to get it to come back.
Also, when I plug my iPod in, iTunes updates it and then within 10 minutes, the icon does not show on the desktop but I can see the iPod in iTunes.
Any ideas?

I did run the hardware test and everything passed.
For about 3 hours last night, everything was working fine. This morning the USB drive icon is there but not the iPod. I think I will try the OS reinstall but not for about a week. I will be out of town all next week and can't get to it before I leave.
Something may have gone wacky while loading some application. A couple of the suspects would be Adobe Lightroom beta 4 or Google Earth. This issue only started within the last 5 days or so and I think those are the only applications I've loaded in that time.
Thanks for the help in eliminating some of the culprits. I think the OS install should fix. If not, it may be time to have Apple take a look.

I would like to use time Machine to back up to a network SMB drive. I can see the drive on my desktop but it will not show in the time machine window to be able to select it

The supported targets for Time Machine backups are local (direct-connected) disks, and network targets include Time Capsule, a disk hanging off the current-generation AirPort (though not earlier AirPort devices), and OS X Server systems.
The Time Machine storage is based on the HFS+ file system, so I would not expect TM to work with SMB file services.
While there are hacks to allow Time Machine to access network drives, I would not consider those to be reliable. Skim the forum and the 'net for related details, and for previous discussions of setting this up and the related issues that can arise.
Remember to test the recovery with whatever you decide to use; whole point of backups is the ability to restore the data, after all.

Windows (tool) panels are not showing, or letting me use most of the tool features. e.g. when I klick windows>align but no align window shows up, even though it is ticked in the 'Windows' drop down menu. This is the second time this has happened since subscribing. Help!

It may be time for the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.
