Safari window "stuck" on dual monitor

I have dual monitors set up as an extended desktop. Normally I can drag windows from one monitor to the other and back again. Today I dragged a Safari browser window from the right monitor to the left, and it wouldn't drag back again. It will drag offscreen to the right, but it "bumps" against the left hand border when I drag in that direction. I went into the monitor settings and set to "mirror", then back to extended, and that got my window back. But the next time I dragged it, it got stuck again. I've quit Safari, repaired permissions, run Cocktail and restarted. Still stuck. Anybody know what's up with this?

This may be your solution (or not), but I see this as well, but usually when the window is near the top of the screen. This is because the Menu takes up space that windows cannot invade and act as a block. Dragging the window slightly down and over gets around this.

  • Window Restore on Dual Monitors after Waking

I asked this question in the OSX forum a week or two ago and didn't receive a response. I'm thinking most of the dual monitor uses must have Mac Minis so maybe this is a better place to ask. When my monitors awake from sleeping, it's a crap shoot as to where my app windows will appear. Is there any way to fix this? The monitors are HP LP2475w's. I didn't have this problem with a single monitor.

I have this exact same problem. The only fix is a reboot. Currently I'm experiencing the opposite as well. My macbook still thinks it's hooked up to an external monitor. If I open up the display settings and click Gather Windows I can change settings for the no longer attached Dell 1905FP. It's an intermittent issue. Sometimes I don't have this problem for a week, other times it occurs twice a day.
I'm using the mini DVI to DVI adapter and like the parent, the only fix is a reboot.

  • Windows & Mac on Dual Monitors with Boot Camp

Can you run a windows program & a mac program at the same time on dual monitors using boot camp?

No. OSx licensing only allows running OSx on Apple hardware.
What program? Boot Camp only partitions the drive for Windows. Boot Camp has no impact or affect on Windows. The only difference between running Windows in a Boot Camp partition or in a VM is that Windows uses the computer's hardware natively in a Boot Camp partition.

    Hi!
Is it just me, or is it a bug? I use flash at a dual monitor

the AS-window) are at the first screen.

I know I can install windows 7 but my question is, if I use another monitor(iMac being the primary computer) is windows 7 going to work with my dual monitors? Sometimes I work from home and I need 2 monitors under Windows. I will mostly use the remote desktop connection program from Windows.

  • Windows left on dual monitor after disconnect

(I'm sure this is easy so I apologize in advance for being clueless
I have a 15" powerbook AL. When I disconnect my dual display, I often have windows that get stuck on the "other" display. For example, Google Earth seems to think it should display on my (now disconnected) other display. "Detect displays", restarting Google Earth, and rebooting has no effect. I can FN-F9 and see the window but when I click on it, it zooms back off screen.
How do I convince the computer there is no other display attached?
    Thanks!

You can open your system preferences, go to display and hit detect displays.
This should take care of it when it realizes that there are no external displays attached)
(This is also where the gather displays button is located)

  • Advice: Mac Mini / Dual Monitors / PC Mac Configuration

Hey Guys, need some advice for a semi-switcher friend.
I have a business associate who has asked me the following questions and wanted some advice from the mac forum.
My friend's background is as professional web site developer. He is currently using Windows XP with dual monitors.
His boss is going to buy him a Mac Mini to work along side his PC. He wants to know what would work for dual monitor / PC / Mac Mini configuration.
    Here are his questions:
"One, what do I need to do to run dual monitors on a Mac Mini since it doesn’t have another graphics card like my PC?"
"And two, what is the best way to use my dual monitors with my Mac and PC? Should I trash the PC and use Bootcamp/Parallels or use something like a KVM switch since the Mac doesn’t come with a keyboard or mouse?"
"I still need to be able to do testing with IE7 and Firefox (which I believe is different on a Mac than a PC), so that’s why I considered using Bootcamp or Parallels. (I prefer Parallels due to the rebooting of Bootcamp, but am wondering if I might experience any troubles otherwise and am better off with Bootcamp since it’s a Mac product and not third-party software. I’m neutral on this.)"
Any help or suggestions would be welcomed.
    Thank you in advance.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

There is one factor you might want to pass on to your semi-switcher friend in his consideration of a mac system.
There's a subtle difference between MacOS and Windows that can significantly impact on how well a Windows user adjusts to the Mac, particularly when used to dual head operation. Windows attaches a menu to each and every window (and application) whereas MacOS does not. While a Windows user only has to navigate to the menu bar at the top of each window, a MacOS user has to navigate to the single menu bar along the top of the screen (or primary screen if on a dual head system.
It's not a major issue, but for a pro used to simple and quick navigation off on the secondary display, having to navigate over to the top of the primary display to do something instead of quick flick up and done, there can be a small degree of frustration and a slight impact on workflow.
I hasten to add that with those I have seen make this very transition, the effects were short lived, but it leads to the thought that where the Mac is concerned, it might be marginally better to go for a single widescreen display than dual head.

  • Maximising Safari on a dual-monitor setup (GUI behaviour in Window XP Pro)

When I maximise Safari on the 2nd monitor of my two-monitor setup, it disappears off-screen (but its icon still remains in the XP taskbar) and I am unable to bring it back into the viewable area. Consequently, I have to close Safari and reopen it to continue.
When I maximise Safari on the 1st monitor it fills the screen as I'd expect.
    Windows XP Pro

Confirmed on another Dell D610/Windows XP dual-monitor setup.
However, when I maximise safari on the secondary monitor it still appears on the task bar, enabling me to right-click and Restore the window (whereupon it reappears).

  • How do Dual Monitor with my Mac Book Pro (Boot camped with Windows 8) through my mini display port VIA Thunderbolt to a iMac (Model Mid 2011)?

So I have a Mac Book Pro with a bootcamp Windows 8. I dual monitor on the Mac side with my Mid 2011 iMac through my mini display port via thunder bolt cable. In my perfect world, I would be able to switch to the Windows side and have the iMac mirror or extend my windows display for my gaming pleasure, etc. I'm not sure if it's just a simple driver or that it cannot be done. • How do you have 2 Safari windows open and show both pages simultaneously on the monitor

How do you keep open 2 Safari windows and show both pages on monitor?

While in Safari with your first window open go to the File menu and select New Window. That will open the second window on which you can navigate to your second web page. Resize both windows to fit on your display.

  • How do I move an entire app to a dual monitor? Not just a window?

How do I move an entire app to a dual monitor? Not just a window? I can drag single windows, but if I move a window to the second monitor and hit a button, like 'New', that opens a new window, then it opens the window in the first monitor. I want it to open in the second monitor instead.

Right. Mail remembers as well. I have the menubar set on my larger display, and the main Mail window on the MBP display. When I create a new message, it displays the composition window on whichever display I used the last time for composition. So after the first time I moved the composition window to the larger display, it always opens on that display. I can't remember if it remembers that behavior after taking the MBP on the road, where I use only its display, and then reconnect the second display back at home.

  • How do I have dual monitor for different windows

I wanted to use two monitors. One to monitor my file while the other as my working window. I am using Imac Intel Duo Core 17" and I heard that I need to buy the adapter. If I buy the adapter, what else need I click so that the FCE can be split into 2 separate monitors. Is there a function? Has anyone done this before?

You can change this in the System Preferences>Display, but a second monitor should default to a dual monitor arrangement. You just have to drag the windows you want onto the second monitor.

  • My mouse pointer is stuck on one screen of a dual monitor set up.

I recently did a fresh install of lion on my mac, the dual monitors were working on Snow Leopard, but no longer.
Whilst I can see both screens, I cannot move my mouse from one to the other.  Nor can I drag windows across the screens.
    Help!

have you tried all the edges? you may need to reconfigure your monitors arrangement. to do so go to system preferences displays and then choose arrangement. Then you'll be able to see how the computer thinks you have them and adjust it to the way you want them. Make sure you dont have mirroring on as well (being thorough).
    Hope this helps you.
