Safari windows will not disappear after closing

When I close windows under Safari, they will keep on staying in full screen but turn completely grey. The whole windows becomes grey and it won't disappear until i restart safari. i can switch between full screen windows and everything just as it would be a running program. This appeared since i upgrade from the beta to official release. Can't upload a pic for some reason on here.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • My Safari Windows will not close

My safari windows will not close. I can use the internet fine, but safari will not allow me to close or minimize the window. This is also stopping me from shutting down my computer without removing the battery. Should I take it in to get repaired, or is it a setting on my computer that got turned on? Is anyone else having the same problem? Thank you! - Kristen

    Hi Kristen,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Which version of OS X are you using?
For possible relief, go to your Finder. There, navigate to your User Account's Library>Preferences Folder. You'll see a file com.apple.safari.plist. Move it to the desktop and restart Safari.
Please let me know if that changes anything.

  • Mail.app will not reopen after closing app

I am using a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.5.8 and Mail.app 3.6 (936). I have all current updates installed. My problem is that I will be using mail.app (configured as an IMAP account) all day and close the application without any issues, but if I reopen the application without fist restarting the computer Mail hangs and will not relaunch. This issue happens without fail. There are only two resolves that will allow me to relaunch mail.app: restart the computer or relaunch the Finder.
What can I do to resolve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Thom

Anyone one have any thoughts on this? The inability to relaunch Mail.app after closing (without relaunching the Finder or restarting the computer) happens every time without fail. All other applications work without incident.
    Thanks,

  • Photoshop Elements 12 will not restart after closing.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.  If I close Photoshop Elements 12, it will not restart.
To get it to restart, I have to open the Windows Task Manager and then stop the process "PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe *32".
Once I stop this process, then Photoshop Elements 12 will restart.
Is there a know solution for this?

Try making a direct desktop icon for the Editor which will bypass the welcome screen.
Right click anywhere on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Editor application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
    C: >> Program Files (x86) >> Adobe >> Photoshop Elements 12
Within the Photoshop Elements 12 folder find PhotoshopElementsEditor (the application not the Adobe shortcut)
Select that file and click Next.
    Then click Finish.
You should now be able to launch by double-clicking on the new desktop icon and hopefully the application will close correctly.

  • Safari window will not maximize

this just started and i do not know why. Whenever i try to maximize window in safari it actually minimizes window to the lower left hand corner

Just drag it from the bottom r/h corner.
Alternatively, Glims has an option for full screen Safari. It does other really useful thinbgs as well:
If you want to fix your Google search to a specific Google location, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:
    http://www.machangout.com/
which not only does that but much more equally useful stuff! (Such as automatically deleting Flash cookies, enabling Safari to run full-screen, and more.)
(It adds items to Safari Preferences).
Not only does it already list a number of search engines and regions, but you can also add any other search engine not already listed in Glims by using the method described here:
    http://www.machangout.com/tutorials/addsearchengine
Just enter the name you give the search engine in the name field, and the URL for it in the Query URL field.

  • Windows 8 Laptop will not recover after closing the lid

    I have a Compaq C60-420US.
The OS was Win7 on an OEM install which worked fine.  I could close the lid of the laptop and when opened, the OS would resume normal operation.
I upgraded the OS to Win8.
Since the upgrade, when I close the PC top and then open it, I cannot get the computer to respond.  The drive shows activity, the DVD sounds like it goes active for a moment but the screen remains black.  If I press the on/off button it begins
flashing and when pressed again it does the same type of activity as when I open the laptop cover.  I have made sure that the BIOS is up to date.  I have tried disabling the CPU sleep mode in BIOS, no change.  I have tried disabling hibernate
in power options, no change.  I tried reverting to the Win7 video drivers from the HP website, no change.  I don't know what else to try.
I have researched this problem on google search and have come up empty other than the things that I have already tried.

There are currently no drivers up on the HP website for this monitor using Win8.
So, try installing Win-7 drivers in compatibility mode.   If switchable graphics are involved see this tip
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video-e-g-Windows-8/I-upgraded-to-Windows-8-How-do-I-get-switchable-graphics-to/m-p/2213275
Also, I think it would be interesting to see if you could boot in VGA mode, e.g. as a workaround if you didn't have the second monitor to use.   A procedure that I have been suggesting on that tack involves this loop, assuming the lock screen is
being shown on the black screen...
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_update/never-ending-cycle-after-windows-update-turns/d36579c0-8fa5-4930-ae57-bc608d26564f?msgId=2a507498-9e0b-4214-9adb-e5342dc841e3
    <quote>
    <loop>
Shift-Tab, Shift-Enter, wait.   If the drive light start flashing, wait even longer for it to settle down.
    </loop>
    </quote>
Now I'm wondering if the problem could be related to the resolution required to show your lock screen?  Is there anything special about it in that regard?   If so, maybe the target of my workaround should be the Space Needle?
(E.g. the lock screen for unknown account.)...
Oh, no.   I have made a change which invalidates my procedure and I can't figure out how to undo it.   I have done something which requires me to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete before I can use the Lock Screen.  Also, in that case I'm finding
that Shift-Enter may not be appropriate any more but only a Space would be allowed (e.g. for my Plan-B, opening the Accessibility menu in order to hear Narrator's comforting words and then activate Narrator to guide the user through the darkness.)
Why is this being designed to be so unusable?
    Good luck

  • FF works on startup but will not open after closing until I reboot.

Until today everything okay. This evening tried to re-open Firefox and it would not. Rebooted computer & Firefox opened OK but after I closed it an tried to reopen, it would not start. Now it appears that Firefox will only open on a fresh restart of my computer. Running W-7 64 bit.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause
Firefox issues. '''Disable All of them.'''
Start '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web Link} by holding down the '''<Shift ''(Mac Options)'' >''' key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

  • Windows will not update after clean install

ok, I hope this isn't a common topic, I have searched everywhere for a solution. My laptop was slow, maybe infected with malware. I refreshed it and it wouldn't allow me to update and reinstall 8.1. So, I reset it. Still no updates. I got my hands on a windows 8 disk, formatted the drive and reinstalled windows. I still can't update, I have tried update troubleshooter and microsoft fix it. Neither worked, the updater searches and then says sometimes even update needs an update. So i've tried that. it happens often and it wont complete the updater update, even after troubleshooter claims it has fixed any errors. I  got one error message earlier in week which I can't rememer. I searched out all the info and fixes on it and got nowhere. I gave up on fixing update and tried all the other installers I could find. The only one I could get to work was WSUS. I downloaded all the updates and installed them, in configuration there was an error and it removed all updates. I am losing my mind, this should be simple and has been going on for two weeks. Please help!

I understand that you are unable to update to Windows 8.1.  You tried doing a refresh and reset but there was not change.
You then formatted the drive and installed Windows 8 from a Windows disk but again unable to update to Windows 8.1.
You have ran the troubleshooter and tried to update the updater to no avail.
As you did the last installation from a MIcrosoft disk, I suggest contacting MIcrosoft support for assistance or do a  HP
    recovery.
This Microsoft article may help you to overcome this issue.   Installing the Windows 8.1 Update (KB 2919355).
There is a section on the bottom of the page for troubleshooting the installation.
Here is  a link  to  Contact Microsoft.
If you formatted the entire drive when you did the Windows 8 installation from the disk you will no longer have the recovery partition and will need to do the recovery from CD/DVDs or USB key.
If you did not create recovery disks, please contact HP support and inquire about obtaining a recovery kit.

  • Windows will not restart after install of itunes & quicktime, what to do?

I installed itunes and quicktime from the disc provided. After install the installer asked to restart the computer and I clicked yes. It has not booted since. Windows 2000 Pro locks up about 75% through process. I did hear the speakers activate then nothing. I have attempted a hard boot and restart in safe mode without success. My emergency disk did not work. Where should I go next?

  • Safari bookmarks will not sync after installing icloud

New bookmarks that I have added after installing icloud are not being synced to my ipad

    Hi Midlake
You may have already resolved this? but I just realised you may have had the same problem as myself.
    1. Connect your iPhone
    2. Go to iTunes and click on your iPhone icon in the left hand panel
    3. Click Sync tab (you will see sync contacts, mail accounts etc.)
    4. IMPORTANT scroll down the page as the sync bookmarks is hidden!
    Hope this works

  • A second browser window will not open and then closing the 1st window firefox will restart. Taskmgr shows it still running, it will not restart until I end the process in taskmgr.

I open the browser and close it every thing is fine. I open the browser and then attempt to open a second browser window, it will not open. Now because I've attempted to open a second browser window firefox will not restart after closing the open window. Until I've shut it down in the taskmgr. This just started the other day and I have removed the only update I made that was "flash" and I removed the 64 bit version of firefox.

Win 7 with iTunes installed - I was also having problems with that.
"netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt resolved all issues and Firefox launched normally.
Check to see if Winsock is corrupted. May prevent FF from communicating with the web and consequently fails to launch properly - for my situation was not a firewall or antivirus block!
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936211#LetMeFixItMyselfAlways
Click Start, and in Start Search, type cmd.
Right-click the cmd entry that appears in the search results, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:
    netsh winsock reset
Then, you should see the following message:
Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the computer in order to complete the reset.
    Restart the computer.
Note If you receive an “Access Denied” error message instead of the message that is mentioned in step 3, the command prompt was not correctly elevated. In this case, close the Command Prompt window, and repeat steps 1 through 3. Make sure that you correctly implement step 2.

  • Lookout intro emblem will not disappear

We recently ran into a problem on our server machine where when we first open Lookout the NI emblem that pops up will not disappear after the process file(s) open. The processes are open behind it and working properly but you cannot see anything because the emblem is in the way. We have to keep reopening Lookout until the emblem disappears.
Is there a way to prevent this emblem from appearing? If not, any ideas on what is causing this problem?
We are running Lookout 6.1 on a Dell machine with Windows XP Professional.
    Jason Phillips

The NI emblem is just a window with a pic. Lookout creates the windows first. After a while, it destroys the windows. So, it is supposed to be closed.
One possible reason is that when opening the process Windows is overloaded and can't refresh the display in time. Maybe your process is too big. It's just my guess.
Another reason is that the "close" message is not handled correctly by Lookout. But without reproducing it, I can say if this is a bug.
If you launch Lookout without any process, will it work properly every time? If yes, next time you can launch Lookout first(run lookout.exe), and then open a certain process.
