Safari with Adblock crashing MCB Pro with Yosemite?
I have an early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina / 2.6 GHz / 8 GB memory / Yosemite 10.10.1
Having upgraded to Yosemite in early November the MCB froze and eventually crashed a few times while on Safari but on restarting everything worked fine.
3 weeks later again while browsing on Safari MCB froze, crashed and would boot up to 50% and freeze.
Running disk permissions / disk repair through disc utility nothing got fixed. The MCB would also not boot on safe mode.
I then downloaded Yosemite again through disc utilities and after a couple of times where this didn't work either finally the MCB managed to boot properly.
The only thing that I could notice to be different than before was that the Adblock extension on Safari was not there anymore.
After a few days of browsing, cookies started building up and I decided to reinstall Adblock. Since then Safari has started freezing again and the MCB crashing,
although up to now it does then boot properly.
Have now switched to using Chrome (with adblock) and up to now nothing has gone wrong.
Could this be a software problem with Safari, a virus or something else?
Adblock may be the reason.
Remove the Adblock extension or try updating it.

I just returned my new Mac book pro with retinal display after three very disappointing three weeks of trying to use certain websites and other third party programs (Quickbooks, Raintree) that would not function properly. My husband own the previous MacBook Pro version with the built in CD rom and I was able to use those above mentioned websites and problems with the no difficulties. Did I just happen to get a lemon or is this a function of the computer being too new for third party software?
Programs such as Quickbooks pro for Mac, I was able to import my previous data and I was able to enter about 5 new transactions before it stopped being able to save transactions. Other programs ( Raintree ) that I use via VM software as a windows based program I was able to access and use some features but not others. On the web browsers (both safari and Mozilla) I use a website that has an analyzer feature and it would pull up a blank screen in the place where I would enter pertinent information. They tried pulling this website at the apple store today and the same issue happened. All these programs and website I am able to access and run smoothly with no issues on my husbands MacBook Pro , which is why I returned my MacBook. I just wondered if others were experiencing similar issues with their MacBook with retinal display.

Scrolling Safari crashes MacBook Pro with Yosemite
About every two weeks when I'm scrolling down an article or Yahoo News or such the computer locks up / freezes, nothing at all works, and then within a minute it crashes / turns off. This has been happening at last since Yosemite launched and upgrades haven't fixed it. All the desktops get restored when I boot it up again but this problem is getting old and I would like it fixed.
I have no extensions except the usual Flash and Adobe Reader. I have Flash turned off for Yahoo.
In mid-December Apple Genius Bar staff had me completely replace Yosemite and not restore any settings to fix a display problem. It wouldn't wake up from sleep mode. Previous to that they replaced the logic board twice. The sleep problem was fixed but this scrolling issue remains.
I've searched for solutions online but found almost nothing about this problem. After 4 trips to a Genius Bar last December I've probably worn out my welcome.
Any ideas what is happening?Thanks Linc. I understand the use of bash pretty well. For Web app dev I have to use the command line tools too often :-)
This problem is only in Safari. I use Firefox and Chrome for development and Safari for news, forums, Facebook, and such. The problem happens mostly in My Yahoo but that is probably because I do most of my long scrolling on on that news page. On other pages I'm not scrolling down for a long time reading headlines. Yesterday late afternoon was the last time the MacBook froze and then crashed within a minute.

Safari & iChat both crashing -but only with one account!
We have three accounts set up on our machine. Two of the accounts are working just fine. The third is having issues! When the third account is being used, iChat will not open and produces an error report. When Safari opens (Google is the home page) it crashes as soon as you start to type in something to search for.

Do all the accounts, admin included, have Safari on the Desktop?
If so move them back.
And, I believe I have moved Safari into the application window.
The icons appear for a folder called Safari and Safari.app both appear.
Now I tried to reset the preferences but could not open
Ok, The plist file will be recreated when Safari is opened, should I presume it opened but you could not Go to Safari Preferences?
Let try to resolve the two Safari icons in the Application folder, first.
Is the Finder Window titled "Applications" on top? (see image posted)
Click on the Safari.app (that is the proper extension for Safari)
I trust that is the Application, the other maybe an alias icon,
is there a little arrow on the Safari icon without the.app extension?
To see which is the real Safari application....

If there is a goodly amount of difference in size & date created
move the one with the smaller size & most recent date,
to the "Moved Folder" you created.

Make sure all Applications in the Dock show to be QUIT no black triangles under the Icons.
Now in the Applications window,
Do you see the "Utilities Folder", double click to open that
Look for the "Disk Utility", double click to launch it.
See the HD in the left side bar.
Click on the HD.
Once you click on it, you will see the toolbar,
Click on "First Aid" tab
Now click on button "Disk permissions repair" which is also on the left side of the window, run "repair' not verify.
Let it run do not disrupt it, if it has not been run before it should take some time
When it stops running, if you receive any errors,
Run repair permissions again.
When you get the Message that the Permissions have been repaired or verified, form the Disk Utility menu bar,
Under Disk Utility, click quit.
Now under the
Click on Restart, when the mac has restarted, restart it once more.

Aperture in full screen mode seems to crash MacBook Pro with Retina
To anyone who has an idea;
I have a brand new (couple months old) 15" MacBook Pro w Retina (16GB RAM, 2.3GHz i7) and I can repeatedly crash it just by running Aperture in a full screen mode and flipping through the photos (I have 21000+ photos and I was cleaning them so it required a lot of flipping back and forth, deleting but no editing). It appears as if it was running out of RAM and not releasing it back. I have all the latest updates installed (always) and I know this is not related to my machine since within the first week of having it I noticed a dent on my screen and Apple sent me a brand new machine. I could replicate this behaviour on both machines.
To mitigate the restarts, I use FreeMemory Pro app set at "freeing" RAM once it drops to 4GB but if I push the Aperture too fast (and I do not mean major editing but just simply going through many photos in full screen mode, viewing them), I still crash it.
I was wondering if there is anyone else with something similar and if you have any tips. I have reported it to Apple.Hi,

All browsers (safari and firefox) crash on launch in yosemite 10.10.1
safari and firefox were crashing on launch on my late 2012 mac mini
i reinstalled 10.10.1, and safari was working properly for a day, now both browsers are crashing immediately on launch again.
latest java has been reinstalled. PRAM has been reset. no dice.

Whats better? iMac with HDD or MAcbook Pro with SSD?
Just like the title says, I am split with what to buy.
I am thinking of the new 27" iMac (1TB HDD) in which I would look to upgrade ram to 16GB. This iMac is the £1,600 one, not the £1,750 one.
OR
The older 13" MacBook Pro (without Retina display) as I would be able to change the HDD to a 480Gb SSD and also upgrade the ram to 16GB.
I wanna know what machine would be faster for any tasks, like faster loading etc. I also use programmes such as Photoshop.
I'm not sure what one would be better as to why I'm asking here. Processing/ load up speeds and also non-lag are what I'm after really.

Many thanks!Ideally I would get the iMac with a SSD but as my parent is partly funding this they don't want to get it off the Apple store directly, as they can get a good work discount through PC World (UK technical store if the USA don't have it ) and they only have the HDD version
But yeah, there's a lot of articles that say for speed and performance, it's the Hard drive and Ram that make the difference and not the processor so although iMac is better in that aspect I think I trust many, many articles aha! -
I have an older NEC MultiSync LCD 1700V monitor I used for my MAC Power PC G5 (with the Tower). I am discarding the G% and have tried to connect to the laptop MAC BOOK Pro using the 15 pin dongle for connectivity. I get the screen with the desktop and icons, but I cannot get any applications or folders to come up on the screen. Is the monitor just outdated for the newer softward, or isk there some fix?

RSB123410.9 Mavericks changes the way displays are treated, and the new default is that each display is an independent workspace. This can be put back to the "correct" Extended Desktop way.
Windows in Mavericks reside in a single space by default, so they usually don't span multiple displays. When a window is dragged between displays, it appears translucent on one of the displays to indicate this. After you are done dragging the window, it snaps to one display.
If you need an app window to span multiple displays, deselect the option "Displays have separate Spaces" in the Mission Control pane of System Preferences.

New problem with display on Macbook Pro retina (Samsung panel)

I am a very new people on your forum but a few weeks ago i bought a new macbook pro retina with samsung panel.
I haven't ghosting effect on my macbook but i have a new and really bad problem.
I try to found a some information on Russians forums but nobody can help me with it.
I can see an artifacts in the form of flashing pixels on all display.
It occurs in 20-30 minutes after the start of work.
Today i try to test it on game Dirt 2 and i can see defects after 2 minutes after start. So i think it can be reason with Geforce 650 but when i back to desktop and use HD 4000 i still see a problem.
This is best seen on a black screen with high backlight.
When i try to connect TV via HDMI i can't see any problem in my TV.
So i really don't know what could be the reason.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
