Safari with problems with video playing

Hello all,
I am using a new Macbook Pro 13'' with retina display. I have bought it less than 2 weeks ago and it shows it has OS version 10.9.1. Safari version is 7.
When I try to stream videos from coursera.com I just see a black background when the video was supposed to be playing. The audio plays fine, but no video. Has anyone had a similar problem?
Other question, has anyone managed to be able to play more videos from youtube without flash? I haven't installed because I have read it drains battery faster. I have survived without in mavericks, but I haven't been able to play many videos on youtube, only a few, and these cases are rare.
Regards,

try form safari to :
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
then obviously make sure that the latest version of quicktime is install on you mac.

Yes another user with problem with Apple Mobile Device Support, I am getting the error message: Service 'Apple Mobile Device'(Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Vertify that you have sufficient privileges to start system service....I hit retry and it came up again. I hit ignore and it prompted me to hit finish so Itunes can open.   I looked thru alot of these posts on here to try and resolve this problem myself but it's not working too well...I downloaded Itunes to my desktop so I can right click it with the program i downloaded called WinRAR. I extracted it and then went into the folder called Itunes64setup. I saw the file called AppleMobileDeviceSupport64 in there so I began to try and download it on it's own. Well that didn't work as I planned and got this error message:
Apple Mobile Device Support wasn't installed on your computer. The installer encountered errors before Apple Mobile Device Support could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again.
Well I tried to run it again and came up with the same message...I see that some people got great support to help them so I am hoping someone can help me as well. I know "b nor" is very qualfied and hopefully can help me! Please advise what I can do. Thank you

  • Safari 4 problems with BBC iplayer

Hi, has anyone experienced problems running Safari 4 and the BBC iplayer? All I get is a blank screen; YouTube plays fine. Any ideas?

I have a similar problem with iPlayer. I also can't see the flash content on the BBC news website. I can view Youtube and flash content on other sites. No amount of reinstalling of flash, resetting of cache or restarting of machine helps. All the javascript plugin options are on. However I have experimented on different machines in different locations and come up with weird results:
Unable to view iPlayer, flash in BBC news:
MacBook Pro 17", 10.5.7, Safari 4.0, location at home.
MacBook Pro 15", 10.5.7. Safari 4.0, location at home*.
Able to view iPlayer, flash in BBC news:
PowerBook 15", 10.5.6, Safari 3.x, location at home.
MacBook Pro 15", 10.5.7. Safari 4.0, location at work, different ISP provider*.
I have the same results when trying to view the same content on the same machines all using Firefox v3.0.
The strange thing is that the starred MacBook Pros are the same machine with no changes except location (and no I didn't manually reset my location, I just plugged it in without even a reset of Safari). Therefore my version of this bug appears to be a combination of things: older machines with previous versions of OS X/Safari work at home, newer ones/configurations don't. But at least one of the same new configurations do work in a different location.....
Hence unless the ISP is somehow differentiating between old and new versions of software/machines for viewing just the BBC, something is rather weird.....
If I get time, and this doesn't get fixed, I may bring the other two machines in to work to complete the logic table.

  • Safari update - problem with magic mouse

Hi all, I recently installed safari update to 5.1 (6534.50) on a mabbook pro OS X 10.6.8. Ever since update, I've been experiencing the problem with safari reloading pages and kicking me out of websites that use flash player (back to log-in screen). I can deal with that by using another browser, however the update has really messed up my magic mouse. At first, every time I put my macbook to sleep or shut it off, the mouse would stop responding when I woke the mac up. I would have to disconnect the mouse and reconnect. But this was really eating up my batteries, so this morning I shut the mouse off when I put the mac to sleep. Now it won't connect at all. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Thanks Carolyn and Barry,
I did what Carolyn suggested - moving the .plist file into the trash. I have not resetting the PRAM or SMC yet.
When I go to system preferences>Bluetooth, I get a screen that says:
Bluetooth power is off. To use Bluetooth, first you must turn it on. (Note - my mouse is turned on)
Both ON and DISCOVERABLE are checked.
In the middle of the screen, it says No Devices (Set Up New Device...)
When I select set up new device, it finds my device and attempts to pair but is unsuccessful.
Resetting the SMC and PRAM scares me. After reading the links that Carolyn provided, I remembered another weird issue I had with my mac shortly before the update and mouse issue. For some reason, my clock suddenly became out of sync and I was on a 2000 date. I got an error message and reset the clock manually. Could this be the cause of my mouse issue? I feel like every step I've taken to get my mouse working again has made the problem just a little bigger!
    Thanks again for helping me!

  • Safari have problems with streaming radio over flash

    Hello,
since my update on MAC OS LION have my safari problem with radio streaming over flash.
    For testing: http://shoutcast.flashradio.info/#/House/814384/
In all browsers on all platforms will this work. Just on the combination from MAC OS LION and Safari 5.1 we get the io error #2032.

Try changing some Advanced wireless settings on the router. Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab. Click on Advanced wireless settings. Change beacon Interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2304. Save the settings.
Change the wireless channel to 11.
An 802.11n router can also work with 802.11g and even 11b devices. But these much slower devices force the router to slow down to talk to them, which means a big throughput hit. Fortunately, the "legacy" mechanisms are pretty efficient and reduce throughput only when the slower devices are actively transmitting or receiving. Either upgrade to all 11n clients, or use a separate 802.11g router to handle your "legacy" stuff.

  • Safari giving problems with opening Facebook...

i dont if its just my connection but my safari can't seem to open facebook. i never had the problem before recently its gving me problems.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
You aren't alone. If you do a Google search for problems with Safari/Firefox and other browsers accessing Facebook of late, you'll get a long list.
    One suggestion is checking cookies; The following from the Safari Help Viewer on cookies;
    Safari 1.1: Managing Cookies
Websites store "cookies" on your computer to facilitate transactions with the site. In most cases, cookies are harmless. For some websites, you must allow cookies to be accepted in order to use the site.
If you are concerned about cookies, you can set how you want Safari to handle them.
Choose Preferences from the Safari menu and click Security. Select Never if you don't want to store any cookies on your computer. This may prevent you from using some websites.
Click Always to accept and remember all cookies.
Click *"Only from sites you navigate to"* to prevent storing cookies that come from websites other than those you open. Select this option to prevent advertisers on websites you visit from storing cookies on your computer.
To see the cookies stored on your computer, click Show Cookies. To remove a cookie, select it in the list and click Delete.
If you want to stop accepting cookies, you should also delete all cookies after you select Never in the Security pane.
You may need to temporarily accept cookies to open a page. Select Always to accept the cookies and open the page. You can then turn off cookies. You may want to delete cookies after you have viewed the page. So go to Safari/Preferences/Security and select the button to left of where it says:
Only from sites you navigate to. Maybe that will help.

  • Anyone with problems with Dreamweaver?

    hi
Dreamweaver hangs on startup of the application. Does anyone else have this problem? I've heard there are problems with DW and OS 10.5.7.
I've searched online, disabled the startup menu as suggested, but still hangind when I try and open an html document.
As an aside, does anyone have a rec. for a free wysiwyg program, while I figure out what to do about DW?
    Thanks
    Chuck S

    HI Chuck,
Try repairing disk permissions. Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If that doesn't help, try deleting the associated preference file.
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Look in the Preferences folder for a file named similar to this.
    com.dreamweaver.plist
Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your computer.
And to to Apple Menu/Software Updates. Make sure all your software is up to date.
Look at BBedit and see if it would do the job here.

  • With Problems with 7.6 Release, Anyone Have Trouble Synching?

After downloading iTunes 7.6, I cannot get my iPod Touch to sync at all. I have not lost playlists or my library, but because the Touch is new... all my music is captive on the computer and the iPod is useless.
Wondering if others experienced problems with sync after 7.6 download.
Also wondering how quickly Apple ordinarily corrects things like this.

Never had an answer to this - just stopped using the Airport on the iMac. For now, I'll mark this as answered.

  • Pairing with problems with car radio system

    Hi
I have a Blackberry 8700 which I need to pair with the Radio in a Land Rover Freelander 2 (same for Jaguar, Volvo and some other Ford based Radios). It would not connect at all and I was advised to download an applet from Blackberry and it does now connect but I don't get the phone numbers/ contacts/ call logs to transfer. The O/S version is 4.2.1.94. Does anyone know how to get full functionality. Frustratingly it fully connects with my portable Garmin Sat Nav. I know car radios are not always the most flexible things but it is really frustrating as otherwise the hands free calls are fine.
    Hope someone can help
    Grumpy

I also have the same problem with an 8900 and Land Rover Freelander.
Is this a bug with the Blackberry OS?
    Can someone help?

  • I keep trying to resolve Safari website problems with my 2 iPads -

I hate iPads at the moment.  I keep trying to resolve problems I am having with my iPads …2of them… one an iPad2 and the other a mini… so it is not my iPads.  I cannot log into many of my online accounts with Safari on any of my iPads. It seems to be when I use passwords with capitalized letters and numbers on some of the sites I am trying to access.
I have called my banks and Apple but it is acting up again.  No one has heard of this and I doubt I am the only one in the world with this problem… but there is no where to go to get help
    It has to be Safari.

When you said that you talked to Apple about this problem, I assumed that you tried clearing cookies, data and history. But to this point here .....

  • Resetting Safari causes problems with iTunes

I frequently have to access a problematic Web portal for work that requires me to accept all cookies for it to work properly. So, I've take to periodically resetting Safari to clear out all the tracking cookies that accumulate.
The problem is this: when I reset Safari, iTunes Match stops working (it doesn't throw an error; the icon just changes to a cloud with a lightning bolt inside).
In order to get things working again, I need to log out of both Match and the iTunes store, quit/relaunch iTunes, log back in, re-add the computer, and wait for it to sync before I can use Match again.
Even if, by some distorted sense of programming logic, Apple has linked the browser to it's music player, performing a housekeeping function in one app shouldnot cause an adverse issue in another app.
This issue has been going on for several versions of both apps, and I was hoping it'd be cleared up with iTunes 11, but, nope. I've even reinstalled the OS and started from scratch on one of the machines when I upgraded the hard drive, but the problem persists there, too.
I'm using Safari 6.0.2 on OS 10.7.5 on a Mac Pro, Safari 6.0.2 and 10.8 on both a MacBook Air and a Mac Mini, and have the same issue with all three.
    Annoying, to be sure.
So, after all of that, does anyone know of a workaround that will allow me to clear Safari of unwanted tracking crap without causing all those login issues with iTunes Match?

I only signed up to iTunes Match a couple of days back but am also having this problem on my Macbook Air. I too like to Reset Safari regularly.
As you've noticed, it is the cookies being cleared by Safari which causes this problem. I've gone into the cookies and found apple.com is the one that we need to keep in order to keep iTunes match happy on this device. I've tried to find a way to protect this cookie and exclude it from Reset Safari or Remove All Website Data, but no joy. I can't find a way to do this.
One workaround I have come up with though, is to manually delete the cookies and other website data, whilst keeping apple.com. This may be of no help to you, zeraphoto, as I guess you're looking for a way to do this with one click, such as Reset Safari, but this may be of use to others with less knowledge of cookies.
When you go to Reset Safari, untick Remove All Website Data. This will prevent cookies from being deleted. To clear cookies and other webiste data, go to Safari Preferences, Privacy, then under Cookies And Other Website Data click on Details. Here you will find the sites which have cookies and other website data stored on the device. Simply select all except for apple.com, and hit Remove. iTunes Match will still work.
Like you say though, Apple really need to make iTunes independent of Safari. If it is storing data, it shouldn't be in the general cookies location on the device. It makes no sense.
Apple, please correct this somewhat major flaw.

  • Safari 5 problems with Gmail

I have notice that since I upgrade to Safari 5, the Gmail's chat connection keeps dropping, and re connecting every 5 seconds. It is very annoying and makes the chat feature useless.

    Same here. :s
Not only Gmail, a lot of sites malfunction with Safari 5. Like National Geographic (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/) - click on any of the Editor's pick in the middle of the site. It loads to about 80% and then redirects back to the main site.
