  • Safari won't display HTML 5 Effects

I have hard-coded some shadows to a table on my site, and for some reason they won't show up in Safari. Chrome, firefox, and even Explorer render the shadows fine, but Safari doesn't. Is there a setting or something I need to set up?

Sorry, Guys. Somehow I screwed up when I installed the new Safari with Leopard. I don't remember accessing the preferences for Safari and thought they remained the same as for Safari 2. However, upon checking, I discovered the "enable plug-ins" box unchecked. Checking it solved all of the web site problems.
Peter, Thanks for your response. For informational purposes, on Safari 3, the "enable Flash" button is no longer hidden in the Mime settings tab. Now it's on right on the advanced page of the Quicktime preferences.
Again, sorry for my screw up and thanks for your help!

  • Safari won't display pdf in browser

    Posted before in wrong forum.
I am really sorry if this has been posted before, but I have been searching the forums and can't find an answer to it. I was also looking for the FAQ article about this that Apple says is an answer, but can't find that either.
Anyway, using 10.4.11 and Safari 3.0.4. Safari won't display pdfs in the browser. It is gray with the Acrobat logo.
I remember reading that the solution is to uninstall (delete) Safari and reinstall 3.0.4. However, I cannot find an install for 3.0.4 for Mac, and then do something with Acrobat. I am using 3.0.4 because it was part of a bundled OS update. I can't go back and downgrade my OS...
    What do I do?

    Hi,
You probably won't have to reinstall Safari. Two things you can try. If you open Adobe Reader and go into the 'Internet' section of its preferences, you should be able to disable the browser plug-in. Some times that alone isn't enough, in which case, browse to HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ and move the Adobe plugin out of the folder. Restart Safari for the changes to take effect.

  • Since I got OS10.8.2 Safari won't display online PDF files?

Since I got OS10.8.2 Safari won't display online PDF files?
Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Safari won't display graphics for some web sites

There are some sites that Safari won't display all of the graphics. For instance, nissanusa.com opens to a blank page with a little "feedback" symbol in the lower right corner. Similarly, the infiniti.com page has some text but no graphics. Both pages open fine on Firefox. There are other pages, but I prefer not to have to switch back and forth between browsers. Am I missing a plug-in that I don't know about?

  • Safari won't display XML content with an embedded stylesheet

I'm using Safari 5.0.2 on Windows XP. I cannot get it to display an XML document with an embedded CSS stylesheet. The file in question appears in this ZIP file: http://www.hl7.org/documentcenter/ballots/2011JAN/downloads/CDAR2IG_SDISP_R1_D12011JAN.zip
That document demonstrates is an attempt to enable display of standardized healthcare content in common web browsers. Can anyone here help?

I have a separate bug report to Chrome on this one, same general result in display. The file is an XML document, not a CSS style-sheet. It contains an xml-stylesheet processing instruction that has a local URI #hl7-css-for-cda pointing to an element in the XML that contains the CSS stylesheet. That element uses xml:id to identify itself, so it is (according to the W3C) possible for the browser to determine that element as being the target of the URI.
The problem appears to be that the Display Engine in Safari won't load the content of that URI as a CSS stylesheet.
When I validate the CSS content in that XML element it returns as being valid CSS, and when I validate the XML using my XML editor, it is both well formed, and valid against the XML Schema appropriate to that file.

  • Safari, won't display any windows??

    Hi all,
Just went to use Safari only to discover it won't display any windows, of any kind. I've tried 'new window', 'new tab', 'open location/file' and it even won't open the 'Preferences' window!? It seems to be creating them as I can see them in the window drop down but displaying them nowhere...
It's the latest version, it's not assigned to a specific desktop and I've reduced the desktops down to one to make sure they're not getting 'lost' in another desktop...
    Any ideas?
    I'm using OSX 10.10 on a mid-2010 Macbook Pro.
P.S. while creating this post I've noticed I can't bring up the 'About This Mac' window either. The system Information app also isn't working!?????

    Permission repair spat this out:
    ===== Repair Disk Permissions =====
User differs on "private/var/db/displaypolicyd"; should be 0; user is 244
Group differs on "private/var/db/displaypolicyd"; should be 0; group is 244
    Repaired "private/var/db/displaypolicyd"
    Finished verify/repair permissions on disk0s2
    Tue Oct 28 21:10:10 CET 2014
But had no effect on Safari...
Just to reiterate, the windows are being created but, for whatever reason, will not display (see below).
    Any other ideas anyone??

  • Safari won't display maps

My Safari won't diplay maps from either Google Maps or MapQuest. I'm running OS10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.2 (V312.6). I have the cookies on for sites I go to.
    Maps display when using Firefox.

I am having this kind of problem with maps and some websites with AJAX codes.
For example: this website is from my university, about a Computer Science Competition called "VII Olimpíada da Computação" - at PUC campus Poços de Caldas [ inf.pucpcaldas .br/olimpiada2009/ ], and when I'll register my group (called VaiNaSort), it happens a AJAX error (the registration page was made using AJAX). It don't crash Safari, but after many tries, unfortunally I was forced to use another browser...

  • Mail won't display HTML mails

I am having the problem that mail does not display HTML mails properly but shows them als plain text. Well, at least kind of. I went through all settings in Mail and Safari and whatever I might think of but no success.
Not even HTML mails from Apple are displayed correctly.
    Any idea what could wrong?

I find this kind of funny because I just turned off all HTML in Mail on purpose with a Terminal command.
Has anyone else been messing with your computer?
I don't have the Terminal commands to redo HTML here at the office , will have to wait until I get home, but if you trash the preferences for Mail that should fix it.
Quit Mail then go to user/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.mail.plist
Then restart Mail and see what happens.
There is another one with the same name in /Library/Preferences that you can trash as well if that doesn't work but it's most likely your user preference. If no one was messing with your computer probably just a corrupt preference because there is no way to turn HTML off in Mail other than through a Terminal command line that changes your user preference file. You can't have done it by accident.

  • Safari won't display PDF

My Safari will not display PDF files when browsing.
The "Finder" opens and it says "select an Acrobat application".
I don't seem to have the Acrobat application.
Do I need to down load this application?
If I do, how do I link it to my browser?
And will I now open PDF files on my computer with the Acrobat reader instead of “Preview”?
    Thanks

Thanks Jan, but I never tried to install or remove any Adobe product.
Is Adobe a program that comes with the Mini Mac?
Will Safari normally display PDF files? Or was this something that I should not have expected?
It is kind of a pain not being able to see PDF's in the Browser.
The IE Explorer down loads the PDF file then uses Preview to display. But I really don't want to down down load the files, just view them.
I know on my MS XP computer I have no problem viewing PDF files.
Is there some setting in the Safari that I need to changed?

  • Safari won't display  "All Bookmarks"

Safari won't show the list of Bookmarks.
All I get is the small box in a footer bar with a + in it (add Bookmark Collection), and the previous page shows in the background of the window. The Bookmarks Bar is visible and works correctly, and the library of bookmarks can be exported, so they still exist.
If I try to open the "Show All Bookmarks" from the Bookmarks Menu with no window open, the result is a Safari page with the toolbar, Bookmarks Bar, address bar etc. showing but with a blank page in the body of the window. When I click on the Bookmark icon on the Bookmarks Bar, it will toggle to a page with "about: blank" in the address bar.
Safari is the latest version (3.1.2) which was updated a while ago.
This problem started today and updating to OS X 10.5.4 tonight didn't affect the problem.
    Anyone else have this happen?

    benjoh wrote:
i checked and don't have this file... is there anything else i can do?
It would be really very strange for you not to have the Safari .plist file ...
Try this: Open Safari, go to Safari > Preferences, go to the General section, and change the "New Window" setting to something different. If it currently is set to "Home Page," change it to "Empty Page," for example. Close the preferences window.
Now open a new Finder window. In the sidebar, click on the "house" icon with your username next to it. Open the Library folder in that window and then the Preferences folder inside that. Click the View menu in your menubar and choose "As List."
Click on the "Date Modified" column header, and click again on that column name if necessary so you have the most recent items at the top. The little triangle next to "Date Modified" will be pointing downwards, and the items at the top will have dates that say, "Today" with very recent times.
Did the com.apple.Safari.plist file appear at or very near the top of the list?

  • Safari won't display pdf in browser and I do not have adobe reader or ply ins

I've been checking the posts and all the discussions/questions and answers but the only thing I have been able to find about problems displaying pdfs in browser have to do with adobe plug-ins. I never had adobe reader and checked in /library/internet plug ins and never found those plug ins. I then downloaded and installed adobe reader X and got rid of the plug ins in the library and that still has not solved the problem. Whenever I click on a link for a pdf it just automatically downloads the pdf. I just want to view the pdfs in the browser.

  • Disabled Java-now Safari won't display pages.......

I really thought that I was doing a good thing by disabling Java because of security concerns. Well, apparently it wasn't a good thing and now I don't know how to restore Safari to how it was before I did something so stupid! So I am hoping someone can tell me how to fix this problem. Preferences won't open up or I could change the setting. No windows open up. Safari comes up but that's it. Help! Judy

Safari looks like it's starting up and the menu bar items are there but my homepage doesn't display. I can select Preferences but there again, nothing is displayed. System Preferences are the same way. I did what one poster suggested, installed the combo update for 10.5.7. I am now repairing permissions. I did manage to get Mail to open and display the message window and got 2 messages and tried to reply to one. Got a few words typed and then nothing. The cursor was blinking but no letters appeared. So I quit that app. I just deleted the plist file you suggested. Restarted Safari-no go. I think it made a musical intro though when it started up-I think that that is second since this whole problem started that I heard music and I think it was when I deleted a plist for Safari before.....Anyway, that's where I am at right now. I am using Firefox. Using MobileMe to access emails. And not accessing the System Prefs at all. Things aren't looking good. Judy
