Safari won't display PDF

My Safari will not display PDF files when browsing.
The "Finder" opens and it says "select an Acrobat application".
I don't seem to have the Acrobat application.
Do I need to down load this application?
If I do, how do I link it to my browser?
And will I now open PDF files on my computer with the Acrobat reader instead of “Preview”?
Thanks

Thanks Jan, but I never tried to install or remove any Adobe product.
Is Adobe a program that comes with the Mini Mac?
Will Safari normally display PDF files? Or was this something that I should not have expected?
It is kind of a pain not being able to see PDF's in the Browser.
The IE Explorer down loads the PDF file then uses Preview to display. But I really don't want to down down load the files, just view them.
I know on my MS XP computer I have no problem viewing PDF files.
Is there some setting in the Safari that I need to changed?

  • Safari won't display pdf in browser

    Posted before in wrong forum.
I am really sorry if this has been posted before, but I have been searching the forums and can't find an answer to it. I was also looking for the FAQ article about this that Apple says is an answer, but can't find that either.
Anyway, using 10.4.11 and Safari 3.0.4. Safari won't display pdfs in the browser. It is gray with the Acrobat logo.
I remember reading that the solution is to uninstall (delete) Safari and reinstall 3.0.4. However, I cannot find an install for 3.0.4 for Mac, and then do something with Acrobat. I am using 3.0.4 because it was part of a bundled OS update. I can't go back and downgrade my OS...
    What do I do?

    Hi,
You probably won't have to reinstall Safari. Two things you can try. If you open Adobe Reader and go into the 'Internet' section of its preferences, you should be able to disable the browser plug-in. Some times that alone isn't enough, in which case, browse to HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ and move the Adobe plugin out of the folder. Restart Safari for the changes to take effect.

  • Safari won't display pdf in browser and I do not have adobe reader or ply ins

I've been checking the posts and all the discussions/questions and answers but the only thing I have been able to find about problems displaying pdfs in browser have to do with adobe plug-ins. I never had adobe reader and checked in /library/internet plug ins and never found those plug ins. I then downloaded and installed adobe reader X and got rid of the plug ins in the library and that still has not solved the problem. Whenever I click on a link for a pdf it just automatically downloads the pdf. I just want to view the pdfs in the browser.
    Thanks for the help

  • Safari won't display PDF's

Whenever I try to download PDF's from safari, the page turns up with a blank, black screen without the PDF.
I can download the PDF and view it outside of Safari, so it's not the PDF and when I checked my internet plug-ins, I don't have any with 'pdf' in the name.
How can I fix this problem?
    Thanks.

Problem solved, not entirely sure how.

  • Safari won't open pdf files on my iphone 5c

Safari won't open pdf files on my iphone 5c. Whenever I try to open a link leading to a pdf from say the google search page it won't load up. If I touch-and-hold, the. choose "open", I get taken to a blank page. There are not buttons, like the one that offer to open the pdf in iBooks for example. I get the same result in the google Chrome app.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go
If you see this plugin:   AdobePDFviewerplugin
Move it to the trash, then quit and relaunch Safari and try a PDF file.

  • Safari does not display pdf's properly...

    MacMini 2010, OS 10.6.8, Safari 5.1.10
Safari is not displaying pdf's properly that I can see perfectly in Chrome and Firefox...I get this weird pattern of black shapes....
Works OK on my laptop OS 10.7.5, Safari 6.1.1 (after I allow it to access Adobe Reader...)
Any ideas? The pdfs are printed/made from MS word docs. The header is a placed image. Also attaching screen shot from FF.
    Thanks

    Try this ...
Open a Finder window then from the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    Click Go.
If you see the:  AdobePDFViewer plugin in the Internet Plug-Ins folder, move it to the trash.
Restart your Mac and try opening a PDF file.

  • My Safari won't load PDF's

For months now my Safari won't load pdf's. They just don't show up. I saw an answer in this community to delete a certain plug in. I looked for that and I didn't have that plug in. Any other suggestions to help get this figured out would be splendid.

    Hi...
Make sure you are looking in the correct Library. There are two. One is root, one is your Home folder.
    Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select MacintoshHD in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Internet Plug-Ins folder.
If you see this file:  Adobe PDF Browser plug-in
    Move it to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari.
Tip.. if you are given instructions to go to the root library you'll see this:   /Library
For your home folder you'll see this:   ~/Library
The (Tilde) character before the forward slash denotes the Home folder.

  • Safari won't display graphics for some web sites

There are some sites that Safari won't display all of the graphics. For instance, nissanusa.com opens to a blank page with a little "feedback" symbol in the lower right corner. Similarly, the infiniti.com page has some text but no graphics. Both pages open fine on Firefox. There are other pages, but I prefer not to have to switch back and forth between browsers. Am I missing a plug-in that I don't know about?
    Phil

Sorry, Guys. Somehow I screwed up when I installed the new Safari with Leopard. I don't remember accessing the preferences for Safari and thought they remained the same as for Safari 2. However, upon checking, I discovered the "enable plug-ins" box unchecked. Checking it solved all of the web site problems.
Peter, Thanks for your response. For informational purposes, on Safari 3, the "enable Flash" button is no longer hidden in the Mime settings tab. Now it's on right on the advanced page of the Quicktime preferences.
Again, sorry for my screw up and thanks for your help!

  • Safari no longer displays PDFs

    Using Safari 5.0.5.
Safari used to display PDFs in-line. Now, when a PDF is to load in Safari, I instantly get a black page with no content. I tossed, re-installed and re-updated Acrobat Reader to see if that was the offender and restarted Safari various times, but I have the same problem.
Note: When in Acrobat Reader, the preference Internet: Wen Browser Options has the "Display PDF in browser using ..." option checked and dimmed.
Incidentally, I prefer Preview in all cases.
    Ideas?

Delete the plugin (Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin) and relaunch Safari.

  • Does anyone know why after upgrading to Mavericks, Safari will not display PDF files, is there a solution?

I cannot get Safari to display PDF files, it shows a blank screen with the comment that Safri has blocked PDF, however when you unblock it still does not show the PDF, I have had to rely on Firefox for this, which I find not too good. Any help very much appreciated.

  • Safari won't open PDF files

Clicking on a weblink which links to a PDF file, the screen turns dark gray and nothing loads.  When saving the item to desktop, it appears to be zero bytes or faulty and cannot be opened, say in Preview or Adobe Reader.  No problems with Firefox.  Is there some Safari preference or plug in issues?  There are NO internet plugs in that appear when i GO > LIBRARY > INTERNET PLUGINS

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 4
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 5
Do as in Step 3 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Safari Won't Open PDF's

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble with Safari opening PDF's. For some reason, when I click on a link I get the following message:
To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html
I've upgraded the Adobe Reader that I have, however I'm still having this problem.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    HI,
Open Adobe Reader. Then from the Adobe Reader Menu Bar click Adobe/Preferences then select Internet in the panel on the left.
On the right make sure: Display PDF in browser using: click the pop up menu and select: Adobe Reader.
    Relaunch Safari.
If that didn't help, right or control click a PDF file you already have then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window click: Open with. Click the pop up menu and select: Adobe Reader
    Relaunch Safari.
