Safari won't open a new tab

I'm using Safari 5.0.5 and when I hit command+T or when I right click on a link to open in a new tab, it doesn't open a new tab, it gives me a white page and the URL reads the same page I was previously on. I can't find anything that explains why it might be doing this or how to fix it. I haven't changed any settings recently, nor have have my browsing habits changed. Help?

Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Quit Safari. Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari, try tabs. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder.
Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
And from the Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.

  • Why does the tab button in Safari close safari and not open a new tab?

Why does the tab button in Safari close Safari and not open a new tab?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • "Open link in new tab" not working with Safari and new Yahoo Mail won't open in new tabs.  Yahoo says it is a Safari issue.  I don't think so.

    Any ideas?
Works fine in classic Yahoo mail.  But in the "new" Yahoo mail, there is not even an option to open in new tab when I right click the message to be opened.  Interestingly enough, I can right click open to new tab on any other link on the same page that the emails are listed in.
Anyone encounter this?  Have a solution?
    Thanks.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
    Quit Safari.

Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. Try Yahoo / tabs. If it functions as it should, move the .plist file to the Trash. Otherwise move it back to the Preferences folder.
And check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari. Try again.

  • My Safari app wont open a new tab and crashes if I try, I've tried closing all apps and reopening. Its a new ipad air and only started doing this after I synched with itunes.

    Hi,
I have a new iPad Air. Since I synched it with my itunes account - all my details have been uploaded which is great but Safari will only work with one page open. If I try to open a new Tab it crashes. I have tried turning it off and on again. I tried closing all my apps that were open - including Safari and opening it again. Not sure what else to try.

    1. Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data
    2. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo

  • Just downloaded latest version and now Firefox won't open a new tab. How do I fix this?

I've been using Firefox for years, however as of last week I can no longer open a new tab. I have to go to "file > new window" new tab quick function nor dropdown work. I'm using a Mac OS X 10.9.3.

    '''''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]''''' {web link}
    While you are in safe mode;
Press the '''<Alt>''' or '''<F10>''' key to bring up the tool bar.
    Followed by;
    Windows; '''Tools > Options'''
    Linux; '''Edit > Preferences'''
    Mac; ''application name'' '''> Preferences'''
    Then '''Advanced > General.'''
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.
Poke around safe web sites and see if there is still a problem. Then restart.

  • Won't open a new tab

All of a sudden today, when I click on the new tab button (the+) it will not open a tab. It worked fine yesterday. I tried to open a new tab out of the File menu - no luck. Also I tried ctrl-t, again no luck. I can't upgrade to 4 yet because my antivirus is not supported.

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • New Tab won't open a new tab

For the past two days I have not been able to open a new tab after my home pages have loaded. The only way I can get a new tab to open is if I hit F1 for firefox and then go from there or open a link from an email.

Please disable or uninstall the Ask toolbar extension to solve your problem. It has a known incompatibility with Firefox. See [[Uninstalling add-ons]].

  • My plus sign won't open a new tab, what gives?

Cannot open a new tab, either from the plus sign or file menu. Have I disabled some feature unknowingly?

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • How do I force Safari history to open in new tab instead of reusing current

By default, Safari reuses the current tab when opening the history results, which forces a reload of that page when history is closed. Is there a way to force history to open in a new tab of its own?

Is there any way to make this the default behavior without relying on a modifier key?

  • Safari 8.0 Open in New Tab not working correctly

    Hard and Software:
    MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008), 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
OS X Yosemite 10.10 clean install, iCloud enabled, Safari 8.0
    Problem description:
When I open any type of link in a new tab on Safari, the link shows up in the address bar for that tab, but is not executed, so the tab page remains blank with the address bar filled with the link. Only when I put the cursor at the end of the link in the address bar and hit return, it is actually opened.
When I open several links in new tabs, this problem only occurs for the first tab, the subsequent tabs open normally.
    Troubleshooting Performed:
I changed search engine, turned off suggestions, disabled javascript, cleared history and website data, changed tab settings and turned off extensions. And the problem remained through all these steps.

The described problem goes further: also when I type in any address on the address bar and press return, nothing happens. The address is correctly shown in the address bar, but is does not load the page. When I reposition the cursor behind the address in the address bar, and hit enter, it loads.

  • Is there anyway to get the "Search with google" feature in Safari to automatically open in new tab?

Is there any way to get the "Search with google" feature in safari to automatically open the link in a new tab?
I am indifferent as to the solution, whether it be an extension, plug-in or apple script using automator as long as it is well documented.
Have yet to see an elegant solution.

Hold down the command key while selecting the menu item.
