Safari won't open any website

Network diagnostics say that WiFi is good, network settings are good, ISP is good, etc.  And other devices on my network are connecting to the web without issues.  But my macbook air will not connect to any website.

I get a message that Safari cannot access the webpage because the server is not responding.  However, all my other devices are connecting with no problem.  I just got off the phone with Apple Support and after doing some trouble-shooting and determining that the mba is fine, he asked me to cycle power on the modem and router.  After doing this, the mba connected to the internet with no problem.  I asked him why would the mba need the router to reboot if my other devices are ok?  He said the mba needed to reset its connection.  It's still a mystery to me, but at least now I know what to do.
BTW, OS is 10.7.4 and Safari is 6.0.
Thanks for replying.  Maybe my experience will help someone else.

  • Safari won't play youtube videos anymore. I've never had trouble in the past. I switched to chrome but then back to safari and changed the default browser to safari. Now safari won't open any sites that require a user and password. Any suggestions?

    Hello everyone,
I've recently been getting error messages on youtube videos when using safari. This never used to happen. I tried using chrome but it didn't take care of the problem. When I set my default browser back to safari, safari won't open any websites that require a username and password. Any suggestions?

My case is different from those listed below.  First, I'm running OS X 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.5.
    My problem is this:
I run a Google search, say, "youtube somesong", and from the hit list returned from google I
pick some selection. Youtube launches and plays the video without problems.  However, when
i click on any of the alternate videos from the page's  vertical list, only the name of the chosen video
appears beneath the video I just watched.  The new selection itself is not loaded by Safari.
This occurs for any selection I choose.  My way around this problem is to force a Safari reload of
the page by using the keyboard shortcut, Command-R.  This fills in the old video window with the
video I just chose.  Can I conclude that this is a Safari issue alone, or is it a Safari/Youtube combo gotcha?  Anyway, the present condition *****.
This problem began sometime after i upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I have reset Safari and have also
deleted the Youtube.com Cache, Cookies, and Local Storage from the Privacy settings under
System Preferences. I have also tested the problem by running Safari in 32 bit mode (no luck there).
If anyone out there has experienced this scenario, I sure could use a little help here.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

Safari won't trust ANY website certificate, even after I tell it to (click Always trust this site option), and i can't connect to the APP store even though I'm clearly connected to the internet.  This all started immediately following a RAM upgrade.  Please advise.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. If the problem isn't solved, ask for further instructions.
    1. Are the current date (including the year) and time shown on your system clock? If not, correct them and test.
    2. Disable any third-party firewall, "security" software, or network filter.
    3. In some versions of OS X, Parental Controls has a bug that prevents loading of secure websites. Turn it off.
    4. The process by which OS X checks the validity of root SSL certificates doesn't work behind the authenticating SOCKS proxies used on some enterprise networks. If applicable, contact your network administrator. The proxy server may need to have its settings changed.

  • Safari won't open any pages since I downloaded McScan Beta V

I downloaded McScan's Beta version the other day from securemac. Since then, Safari won't open ANY pages at all, giving me the message, "Safari can't connect to server"
"Safari can’t open the page “http://aol.com/” because it could not connect to the server “aol.com”.
I dragged McScan to the trash, and still won't work. I also ran through the Safari Preferences, and made sure I had followed their suggestions, "”.Choose Preferences from the Safari menu and click Security. Make sure that the checkboxes to use plug-ins, Java, and JavaScript are selected and that the "Block pop-up windows" checkbox is not selected." Still no luck.
Any idea how I can get Safari to work again?

  • Safari can't open any website

Safari can't open any website and it shows a message about not connecting to the server. What should i do to fix it?

I could - rarely - find where a 3rd party product update may have some adverse side effect, but rare.
Maybe Safari 5.1 for Windows added and closed security but wasn't tested enough to see what effects it would have.
Consider, seems every day the same question is posed and asked.
There is a command to flush Windows DNS I saw....
I just tried to go to one thread and it vanished "Looking for something" and blank page now.

  • Safari won't open secure websites

Since installing Mountain Lion my Safari will only open https websites about 25% of the time. I get the message "can't establish secure connection"..... I close Safari and reopen and at times it will work for a short while. Other times I have to restart the computer. The problem always returns after a while.
It never did this before I installed Mountain Lion. Any ideas?

1Password or Trusteer's Rapport security software could be causing Safari to not be able to access https sites.

  • Safari update to 5.1.5, on snow leopard, now safari won't open any web page.

Just installed Safari update to 5.1.5 and now Safari won't load any web page. Running snow leopard on an iMac.  How do I fix, or revert to previous version of Safari that did work, keeping in mind, can't access internet on that computer since Safari won't load a web page (Firefox, Chrome, Opera have never worked on that computer, although Firefox worked fine until I upgraded OS to snow leopard).

Be sure your Mac is shut down.

Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.

  • Safari won't open certain websites... why?

Safari will not open certain sites. I cannot get onto youtube, but i can get on apple site??? i want this working so i can change my homepage and never have to come back here, download firefox, because safari has given me NOTHING AT ALL, besides RUN AROUNDS AND PROBLEMS. thanks
Somebody help me before I switch to PC... seriously

I am also unable to load some websites. In my case, they are all Australian websites. These are websites that I have previously used for many years.
I have an Apple MacBook Pro and recently upgraded to Mountain Lion (OSX 10.8  and Safari 6). I contacted Apple support by phone. They responded immediately, and spent 30 minutes with me trying a number of ways to correct the problem. They finally advised that it is not an Apple problem; that I need to contact website support at each of the websites that are not loading; and that I may need a unique plugin app from each website. Unfortunately, there are a lot of websites that are not loading. Any advice?

  • Safari Won't Open Any URL

I use Safari as my default browser. This morning ALL websites came up: Safari can’t open the page “...” because it could not connect to the server “...”. I emptied the cache, but that didn't help. I also ran Yasu
I use Endicia postage software which is receiving: "Error -1004 - can’t connect to host" when I try to verify a shipping address, therefore I am unable to print any labels without verification!
I have opened Firefox and made that my default, but that didn't seem to correct the problem. I also ran Yasu.
Any suggestion on what I can do?? I'm not sure if these two problems are interconnected or not. If I could switch my Endicia software to Firefox, that would at least temporarily take care of thing for the time being. But of course a perminant solution to the Safari not opening would be best.
    Thanks,
    Barbara

I'm not exactly sure why it made Safari and my mail program finally connect, but it had to do with this little Earthlink Total-Access window that usually resides on my desktop. Later in that day I went to use it and found it wasn't there. I went to the "Earthlink Total-Access" software in my applications and double clicked on the icon. The little window appeared and my connection worked.
I guess I had made the assumption that I was already connected through Earthlink DSL, since my Mail and Firefox browser worked. Evidently I wasn't ... duh!
    Hope that helps

  • I'm connected to internet, but safari won't open any pages.

my ipad show's i'm connected to the internet with full signal, but it won't let me open a website or get email. i've turned the connection on and off, no luck. i've restored the ipdad to original settings, nothing. internet in our house works with computers, iphones, etc. i'm not sure what to try now, i've done everything the help site says too. suggestions?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
While the iPad shows you are connected to a wireless network, have you entered the email account information?
Go to Settings > Mail and either pick one of the preloaded email account providers, or enter your own account. Incoming and outgoing account information such as POP or IMAP for incoming, user ids, passwords. You can also check to see the port is set correctly for each.
With Safari, go to Settings > Safari and turn AutoFill OFF if it is not already. Tap the URL field at the top and enter the URL for your preferred home page.
    See if that helps.

  • It won't open any website, no matter what i type in, in ff 4 beta 5

The operation cannot be completed because of an internal failure. A secure network communication has not been cleaned up correctly.

its just in the beta... my regular ff (3.6.9) is fine.

  • Safari Won't Open Specific Website

I was using an auction website and had numerous tabs open and let to have dinner, returned to computer and all the tabs were frozen at a specific time. I emptied cache and restarted computer and then Safari. Now, the auction site will not load. I receive the following message:
Safari could not open the page “https://www.swoopo.com/” because the server is not responding.
I can open the site on my son's Mac Laptop
Can some suggest a solution? THANKS

Yes, thank you, I read that fine the first time. I wasn't expecting you'd personally have to know the answer to the problem. I posted a reply to this thread to describe my problem because it seemed relevant and similar with the problems discussed in this thread, and that these problems might be related. I thought someone else might have ideas to suggest, too.
For whatever it's worth, apple.com is loading fine today, after several days of acting up. I did nothing to change my system from yesterday, when it still wasn't loading unless I cleared all cookies set by apple.com and flushed the cache, so I'm even more puzzled. I'm waiting to see if it stops loading at some point.
I've had a similar problem of a specific site not loading on Safari 3 (while it loaded up with Mac's FF, and on all browsers on my PC), earlier, when for several weeks linkedin.com stopped loading properly. It would seemingly hang, not render anything, and after 10 mins or so spew out the whole page. It's working fine now, so what caused that one to not load up is also a mystery to me, but I believe it could be the same underlying problem - whatever it is.

  • Safari unable to open ANY websites

New imac all set up. ethernet connection made. email received. BUT when i try to use SAFARI i get a message that says "Safari can't open the page "http...blabla" because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection..." this is strange since i am receiving email AND was apple to reach applesupport.com... I then did a diagnostic check and it says that ethernet connection is fine. hmm.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem?
    thanx dearly, la paloma

i posted with what seemed like Safari problem but it ended up only being my problem. New imac was all set up, had ethernet connection BUT no Safari. i REALLY spent a long time calling myself an idiot ad then tried a simple trick - turning the modem off and then on. it worked.
brain cell loss obviously not as dramatic as first thought.
