  • Safari won't open company homepage

Safari won't open our homepage on iMac 10.6.8.  it will open in other web browsers.
if you google our company and click on the listing, it does NOT work either.

Works for me. Please enable guest logins and log in as Guest. Launch Safari and test. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and disable it if you wish.

  • Safari won't open with homepage...

    Hi...
First, to note, I'm running Lion and after hearing so much cautionary stuff about it... I think I like it. You can revert back to the more familiar type of scrollling and Mail view (though I'm opting to try a mix of folder and new conversation, etc. view)... and the calendar and address book look different but they're perfectly functional... as for all the gray, I kinda miss the colored icons but so be it. We've been through countless UI changes over the years, and all eventually looked familiar. Hey, I'm sure some people who thought they were fashionable were sad to see the '80s go too, right?
    Now... the problem:
This actually started just before the Lion upgrade. Safari used to always open to the set homepage just fine (bbc.com) but now it seems to want to open in gallery of saved websites for the "Sessions" extension. Even though the bbc.com homepage setting is there in preferences, plain as day.
Turn off the extensions and try again, you might say. I did and it doesn't fix it. Safari tries to open in the saved sessions page and fails to find it, yielding an error message (page not found). I've reinstalled the Sessions extension to make sure I have a Lion-compatible version, but that didn't work either.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    JF

    For the home page issue...
    Quit Safari.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari.
See if you can set your home page. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
If that did not help, quit Safari. Open a Finder window select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.
    Try your home page again.

  • Safari won't open to homepage

I have a new desktop running v.10.7.5, with Safari 5.1.7
I have seen there are other discussions on this subject, but I don't know how to join them !
In Safari Preferences I have set new windows and new tabs to open with a homepage (which I have 'set to current page' next to 'homepage') but, as others have mentioned, when I launch Safari, it opens with the last page that was open from the last session.
I have also seen suggested selecting 'restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps' in the General tab of System Preferences, which does not appear in my General tab : is this because my version of Safari is 5.1.7 ?
    Any help gratefully received !

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You are looking for the wrong option. Open System Preferences > General, and mark "Close windows when quitting an application".

  • Safari 6 won't open the homepage at startup on Mountain Lion

Safari 6 won't open the homepage at startup on Mountain Lion... why ?

Do you happen to have an old version of Glims installed. if so try this new version http://www.MacHangout.com/dwnlds/Glims1b34DEV.dmg.zip
It seems to have fixed the problem for me.
    Cheers, Rick May.

  • Safari won't open homepage despite preferences

I have my Safari preferences as open with homepage and my selected homepage URL in the box, etc.  No matter what I do, if I just click the safari icon it opens with Facebook.  I have deleted the caches, cleared the browser history, deleted my preference list, etc all to no avail.  HOWEVER.  If I press SHIFT and THEN click the Safari icon, it opens with my homepage.  WHAT GIVES?!  I'm using Yosemite.

    Might be corrupted Safari preferences.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Copy or paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Desktop.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that didn't help, move the com.apple.Safari.plist file b ack to the Preferences folder.
If that did not work for you, deleting the Safari cache database might.
Back to the Finder > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari then reset your homepage to test.

safari won't open the time warner cable server, I'm trying to watch amc shows through the website, and it asks you to pick a server to login to. I chose my time warner cable server and it won't connect. ATandT works, but mine won't. I've tried restarting and downloading newer versions but it is still not working.

    Don’t worry about it.

I maged to download it and install it, but it’s constantly damaged and won’t open.

    A.
    Remove "SIMBL" and "Google Talk."
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder should open. Inside it are items with these names:
    o1dbrowserplugin.plugin
    npgtpo3dautoplugin.plugin
Quit Safari. Move those items to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return. A folder will open. From that folder, delete the items listed below (some may be absent.) You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Application Support/SIMBL
    InputManagers/SIMBL
    LaunchAgents/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
    ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax
Log out and log back in.
Make sure you never reinstall SIMBL. It’s likely to come bundled with another third-party system modfication that depends on it. If you want trouble-free computing, avoid software that makes miraculous changes to other software, especially built-in applications. The only real exception to that rule is Safari extensions, which are mostly safe, and are easy to get rid of when they don’t work. SIMBL and its dependents are not Safari extensions.
    B.
Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock all your user files, reset their ownership, and remove their access-control lists. If you've set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
    C.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
From the application's menu bar, select
    File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Boot in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

  • Safari won't open after 10.6.8 combo update, Yosemite won't download.

Background:  [Experts welcome to avoid this by skipping to the next paragraph]  I need to update my MacBookAir to Yosemite from Snow Leopard.  To answer the obvious, since most who read this think I'm practically working with an abacus and smoke signals:  I've been avoiding upgrades because I just didn't see the need to spend the money when I wasn't having any issues.  The issue now is that I can't get Norton support with Snow Leopard.  So, having heard of the free upgrade to 10.10, I went for it.  --And no, I'm not a cheapskate.  In fact, I couldn't afford the Air to start with, but some fool gave me a credit card and-- well, there you go.
The problem:  I want to (finally) upgrade from Snow Leopard to Yosemite.  I downloaded the 10.6.8 combo pack to my MacBookAir (11-inch, late 2010), necessary to get an App Store update that would allow the download of Yosemite.  [This is how I was successful in going through this same process with my MacMini (early 2010).  Although there's a Java problem there that's baffling--another question, another thread.]  The machine tells me the combo pack update installed successfully, but I can't get past that step to OS 10.10.  When I open the App Store and navigate to Yosemite and select to get it, nothing happens.  Additionally, and most troubling, is that now Safari won't open for more than a couple of seconds before "unexpectedly" shutting down For what it's worth, Mail works fine, so internet connectivity doesn't seem to be the issue.
    What I've tried:
-Software Update.  Air tells me the operation can't be completed because I don't have permission.
-Verified both start up disc and HD, including repairing permissions.  Still no go on updates.
-Not banging my head against the wall.  This has been successful thus far.  However, I'm willing to go there if it will help.
    Thanks in advance for guidance
p.s.  I'm willing to--for the short term--go back to pre-10.6.8 combo update if that's what I need to do to use Safari.

Problem already solved! Found a existing thread with the same issue!

  • Safari won't open since I installed Firefox.

Safari won't open since I installed Firefox. I keep getting a window that asks me if I want to "Reopen" Safari in a large window that includes error messages, lots of them. I click on "Reopen" and a smaller window opens up with the same option to "Reopen", but Safari just goes back to the large window again; the one with all the error messages.

Quit the application. Force quit if necessary.
Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. From the menu bar, select

  • Safari won't open on my iMac

Hi! Safari has been unable to open at all on my iMac (it's been about a year now.) I've been using Firefox but I still prefer Safari. When I click the icon it starts loading the homepage but then nothing happens (it says "application not responding").
Any idea why this is happening? It's Safari 4.1.1
    thanks!

    Welcome to the forums!
If your Safari won't open, one or more of the following procedures should fix it:
    1. Go to Home/Library/Safari/ folder and remove the following two files:
    • history.plist
    • lastsession.plist
(Safari may not load properly If these two files are corrupted.)
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/ and remove the contents of that folder.
(These are just webhistory files and are not required for Safari to run. However, similar to preference files, problems can arise if they have become corrupt.)
    3. Locate the cookies.plist file that's located in the Home/Library/Cookies/ folder and remove it.
(Again, faults in stored cookies may interfere with Safari's launch.)
    4. Check whether any of your third-party internet plug-ins may be interfering with the launch of Safari by carefully moving them to the desktop (do NOT delete them at this stage). You can find these in two places:
Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder, and Global plug-ins are located in the Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder.
Also look in Library/Input Managers where other third party add-ons may lurk. If you find a SIMBL folder, please note that some SIMBLE.bundles may require updating or possibly removal.
Restart Safari and place them back in the correct folders, one at a time, closing and re-opening Safari each time. If you discover that one of them was causing the problem with launching Safari, trash it and download and install a fresh copy.
