Safari won't play videos (or anything else for that matter)

Hi folks,
I have a MacBook Pro running all the latest software and it seems that Safari's having trouble playing things, like videos. Nothing works: Flash, HTML5 or QuickTime. Tried it all. MP3s won't play in the browser either. I've looked around and many of the other people who have this problem have it magically disappear with an update, no such luck for me. Apple isn't going to be useful for less than $49 either. Anyone have any insight?
Thanks!

Hi...
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)  < your profilel
I have a MacBook Pro running all the latest software
If your profile is correct, click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update. The most recent Lion version available is v10.7.4 and Safari 5.1.7
For troubleshooting Flash.
Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
Spend $49 for what? QuickTime is pre installed on your Mac. If you are using HTML5, that can prevent Flash content from streaming.
For QuickTime. Check Safari > Preferences > Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that OFF, quit then relaunch Safari. Try a QT video.
Not sure if this will work for recent versions of Safari for mp3, but won't hurt to try >  http://www.kalvster.com/macintosh/save-download-mp3-files-in-macintosh-safari.ht ml

  • Screensaver ONLY working, not main screen, or anything else for that matter

I just got a new TV a few weeks ago and have bene able to use my Apple TV to listen to music, without even pulling it up on the TV (Just using my iPhone to stream to ATV).
Here's my problem: The main screen will not show up from the Apple TV.  However, the screen saver will show up when that comes up, so it doesn't appear to be a wired connectivity issue.  Anybody have any idea why I cannot do anything on my Apple TV except the screensaver?

This problem has nothing to do with the remote.  The Apple TV is still functional with the remote.  The problem remains that I can see the screensaver, but not the main screen on the Apple TV.  As soon as I press a button on the remote while the screen saver is running, the screen goes to black.

  • Safari won't play videos?

Hi, I don't really know anything about software, but I can't play videos (youtube, other websites).  Is there something I need to update or download?  My computer has OS X 10.7.3 and Safari 5.1.3
    Thank you.

That is indicative of Flash content on the site, and Fl;ash isn't supported on the iPhone. the subject is quite divisive with many saying that Adobe should produce a compatible iPhone plug-in with equally as many saying that they have and even more people saying that its a poor medium etc.
As I said, its a hot topic but Apple are going the HTML5/H264 route so don't expect Flash any time soon - if at all. At least lack of Flash buts down the annoying adverts.

  • Safari won't play videos which require flash player

I have a 13 inch macbook with safari 5, which on my account will not play videos on youtube, bbc iplayer and other sites. Safari will play the videos on the root user and another account. I have installed flash player, shockwave player, and adobe air, but safari still doesn't play videos. please help.

    Hi
Safari-Preferences-Security-Enable Plug Ins is checked on ?
you've no Safari extensions enabled ? (remove them, restart safari & test again)
look in Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and Input Managers for any software that may interfere with Flash
also in System Preferences-Accounts-Login Items .
Failing all those - quit safari & move home/library/preferences/com.apple.safari.plist to the desktop
    also, trash home/library/preferences/macromedia/Flash Player/

I'm sure that it coincident with the most recent Adobe update. I get a message like "Plugin not found" inside what should be a video box.

  • Am useing a PC. Have Photoshop CS5, suddenly cannot move Raw files from bridge (or anywhere else) into photoshop. Jpeg move into photoshop ok, did get error message 1 what do I do to correct this                om bridge (or anywhere else for that matter)

    Useing a PC
    Have Photoshop CS5
Suddenly cannot move Raw Files from Bridge (or anywhere else) into photoshop.
I Can move Jpegs into ps the only issue is with Raw files
I did get error1 message but as do not know what that means its no help
    any suggestions?

Sorry for the late reply. My email firewall has become a little over zealous & sent a lot of my emails straight to my junk email folder, so I have only just now discovered your reply in my junk mail folder.
The only "don't open files exceeding xxx megabytes" instruction I can find in my Prefs, is in the Bridge Prefs for Thumbnails, & mine is set at 1000mb. The biggest files I handle are bigger than 200mb so I should be able to open a few, not just one.
However, this doesn't explain why I can open a psd format file of 180mb, close it, but then can't open a RAW format file of only 26mb immediately after.
I can open the RAW file only if I restart my computer - very annoying!
However, thanks for the advice about the video card & memory.
So, I'm still stuck as to what the issue is.

  • 2nd hdd not showing up in finder (or anywhere else for that matter)

I just picked up a dual 867mhz G4 MDD model and i want to install a 2nd drive in it but i cant seem to get it to show up.
The system drive is installed behind the cpu heat sink, which seemed like a pain to get to, so i put my 2nd hdd in the bay on the left. I made sure the connectors were all secure, and i set the jumpers on my drive from Master (which i used the first time i booted up) to CS, neither of which seem to work. Disk Utility doesnt show the hdd, nor does Finder. Im 90% sure its not the drive's fault.
Do i need to install it on the same IDE cable as the system drive before filling up the other bays?

Do i need to install it on the same IDE cable as the system drive before filling up the other bays?
Nope, but even though Apple recommends CS, that won't work with some drives, if it's on a Blue IDE connector it likely won't work without a drive on the Black end, if it's on the black end it may require Master, or Single.
I'd suspect a bad IDE cable also.

  • Why does Safari no longer play video?

When IOS 8 came out & the macbook software was also updated around that same time (Nov/Dec 2014?), Safari no longer plays videos. It continuously claims that I need the most recent version of Adobe Flash installed and even though I do that, & other browsers can play videos without issue, Safari can't play any of them!!! Apple is getting worse than Microsoft nowadays with such issues popping up everywhere & never being resolved.

    1. System Preferences > Flash Player > Advanced > Delete All
Press “Delete All” button under “Browsing Data and Settings”.
    2. Install Adobe Flash Player.
        http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Download it and quit Safari from Safari menu in the menu bar.
Follow the prompts to install Adobe Flash Player.
    3.  Allow  Plug-ins
        Safari > Preferences > Security
        Internet Plug-ins >  "Allow  plug-ins"
        Enable it.

  • Youtube won't play videos on Safari

I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and Safari won't play any youtube videos on youtube. However on some other sites linked videos will play. I've tried (multiple times) to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Flash Player to no avail. Any other solutions?

    Hi ...
If you have ClickToFlash installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. The plugin is located in:   /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
Empty the Safari cache more often. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Quit then relaunch Safari, try a video.

  • Flash player won't play videos in safari after I've installed Lion does anyone have a solution?

    Hi,
I've installed Lion after which Flash Player won't play videos with Safari. I keep being prompted to download and install the latest version of Flash Player whcih I've done several times. Can someone please help me fix this.
I find Adobe's announcement that there are no issues with Flash Player and Lion a bit of a sick joke.
    Many thanks,
    Ian Pickering

This sounds like the problems that Adobe have reported which are listed at
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html#main_Flash_Player
I only use flash for watching video clips on the BBC website so haven't been affected by these other issues. The text below is copied from the website at the above link. Hope this helps.
The Flash Player Settings dialog box doesn't respond to mouse clicks. As a workaround, press the Tab key to move to the Close button and press the spacebar to close the dialog box. While not all settings are available, you can also use the Flash Player native control panel in System Preferences.
Custom native mouse cursors don't animate properly on Mac OS 10.7.

  • Safari 5.1 won't play video on YouTube

I did all of the latest Apple upgrades last night and now Safari 5.1 will not play video on YouTube (get message that a plug-in is missing - it doesn't specify which plug-in). Have the same problem with video on www.Telegraph.co.uk. So, is Apple picking a fight with some commom video format or is this just a bug (and we're the beta test site)?

@unclepete THANK YOU!! I tried uninstalling 5.1, back to 5.0.5 only to have the same issues. Then back to 5.1 and the issues got even worse, this is after making sure all Internet Plugin's were eliminated and newest flash plugs installed. I was at the end of my rope! Not only was I having problems with Safari not playing videos on YouTube (only would play audio) and other video sites, but some of my pro applications started getting weird on me, saying I had no VRAM (thats a whole other topic!). I made sure I had applejack for SL installed, then did the "Command-S" at startup, went through all 5 steps, and POW!! When I rebooted everything worked, including 5.1 complete with YT video and audio with no weird page refresh issues!!
APPLEJACK IS THE ANSWER. Everyone needs to try that FIRST, before messing about with the plugs, installs, prefs, etc.
