Safari Won't Remember Usernames & Passwords

The subject of this topic is not totally accurate. Safari will remember my usernames and passwords, but only 1 for every domain. I have 2 PayPal logins. In previous versions of Safari (I'm using Leopard), I could have both saved passwords (like I do in FireFox). Now, Safari only remembers the last one I save. The keychain also seems to only remember the last one I enter.
This is a bit frustrating...

It's either Safari and/or Keychain. Right now Safari has saved 3 of my capital one username/passwords. However, Keychain has one entry and it has mixed two accounts. For the keychain name, it has one account, but in the account field, it says another. This is a problem, but why it's happening is beyond me.
Even with Keychain screwed up, Safari is giving me the option of choosing one of 3 of my usernames/password combos, and I was able to login. I reset safari, except username/paswords, and Safari still has them saved.
I just deleted the one keychain item which had two accounts listed, and when I did that, I went back into Safari and it deleted that item. However, the other two are still in Safari and *are not* in Keychain, so I don't know where those are being saved.
I just added the one that was removed, and Safari added it, and keychain has only 1, yet 3 are still listed in Safari and I can use them.
wow... if you can follow that.... back to testing....

I recently upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. Now Safari will not save any passwords or usernames.
Any ideas as to what might cause this? Have I missed a setting or something?

  • Safari Won't Remember Login + Passwords

Safari just won't remember login names and passwords for sites! Even though I fill in the info and check the box that asks to remember, it does not.
BTW, it works fine on my main user setup, but not on a secondary user.
I have deleted the Safari .plist preference files, the keychain access .plist files and deleted files within the Keychain Access application and restarted the machine. Problem still exists.
    Can anyone help?

I am curious about this, too.
Before I delete any of the suggested files, will I have to re-enter my log in names and passwords?
Usually when Safari has a memory lapse, it doesn't recall both log in name and password. When I attempted to log in to this forum today, Safari remembered my log in name, but not my password. Is there an option for Safari or keychain to remember only log in names, but not passwords?
Safari will usually prompt me to add log in name and password the first time I create it for a new site, but not always. It didn't do this when I re-entered it today, but after I logged out, it allowed me to log back in without requesting log in or password.
Thanks in advance for any info on this.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
If the latter happens then you have a problem with cookies that are not kept or the file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie that you must allow: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the 'Cookies' and the 'Site Preferences'.
Make sure that you not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode.
In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and some features like visited links and others are disabled and not working.
You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing".

I just upgraded to 10.8.2 and Mail is having a problem. It won't remember my password for getting mail; but it does remember the password for sending mail, i.e., smtp. Does anyone know of a fix?

The solution surprised even me, and we've been using Macs since 1984 (still have an original 128K).
I contacted Apple support, and because we had just upgraded yesterday, clicked on the "exception" button as opposed to paying the $19.99 one-time support fee. An Apple tech called and the problem was solved in two minutes.
Somehow during the installation of OS 10.8.2 (over 10.6.x) the key chain data for my email ISP login password got corrupted. The solution was to delete both the POP mail and SMTP entries in my keychain.
Back to Mail, it asked for the POP password, I entered it and bingo, mail got busy downloading. Interestingly, the password was also entered into the SMTP panel.
So, that's it. Thanks for you response, Mr. Hoffman, and regards.

  • Safari won't remember any keychain passwords

Hi, so for some reason Safari has stopped remembering any of my passwords for websites. Is there a reason for this I just don't know of, or is there a setting somewhere that needs changed. I checked keychain access and tried adding them that way, but that didn't work. Thanks,
    Shawn

If you remember the website passwords, you can enter a wrong password, when Safari asks if you want to save it say no, and then enter the correct one, when it asks whether you want to save this one, say yes. If you don't remember the correct passwords, perhaps, if you have one, you can get them from your back-up.

  • Safari won't forget user/password

I am trying to get safari to forget my password and login name for myspace, I have reset it, deleted all login information, everything, but it won't get rid of it. Not sure how to do this.
Oh yeah, autofill won't let me delete the information either.

I tried deleting "Safari forms autofill" from keychain access
Edit: Actually, you'll need to clarify what you mean here. Do you mean you deleted the password in Keychain Access, or you deleted it in Safari's autofill preferences? They are two different things.
*Edit again.* I see that there is a keychain entry called "Safari forms autofill," accessible in Keychain Access. I don't know what deleting that would do, but that's not what we're recommending.
Did you try what Mulder suggested, i.e. opening the program Keychain Access and deleting the username/password there? You can search for the web site name using the search field at the top right of the window. The idea is to delete the specific web site entry there.
The other possibility is that the web site in question stored your login as a cookie. If that's the case, you can delete it by going to Safari > Preferences > Security. Click the "Show Cookies" button, find the site's name in the list, click once on it to highlight it, click "Remove" and then click "Done."

  • Keychain. won't remember server passwords

    Hello,
I have a MBP running 10.6 and an imac running 10.5.
Everything is on a Time Capsule network.
I have two separate logins on the MBP and just one on the imac.
Every time I try to access the other computer over the network, I have to re-type the user name and password for that machine.
Basically, i want to be able to press the button on the server list and connect straight to the networked hard drive.
However (in either direction) - even if I select the button "remember this password in my keychain" - the keychain fails to remember the password and I have to wait, even if I click out of the network server and back in...
I assume this is a problem with the keychains (on both machines)... can anyone provide me with a fix for this problem... many thanks
    Ben

Try going into Keychain Access (in /Applications/Utilities) then under the "KeyChain Access" item on the menu bar, select "Keychain First Aid" (or just simultaneously apply the ⌥⌘A keys.
Or, in Keychain Access, you could try just deleting any item that pertains to login to the computer with which you are trying to connect, then at next connection, be sure the "Remember password" checkbox is checked.
Another option that you might consider, once you can connect without having to enter username/password every time, is, once mounted, to drag the icon of the other computer onto your dock -- that will give you a one-click dynamic AFP mounting capability whenever needed.

  • Won't remember ONE password

Firefox remembers almost all passwords but ONE only it refuses to remember or rather does not give me the option of remembering. It is for a gmail account and should not give a problem. The only possible reason that I can think of is that I put in the wrong password many times after changing my email address. Could this account for it? Suggestions?

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.<br />
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.<br />
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you anymore and you need to sign in once again.<br />

    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Password_Manager
You can remove all stored data from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry (Show All History or History sidebar).
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove everything like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions from that domain, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.
You can't recover from that "forget" unless you have a backup of the affected files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

  • Firefox won't remember my passwords, even though I have told it to. Is there a fix for this? I am running Windows7

I have told Firefox to remember the password(s) I use on many different websites. It never remembers any of them. Is there a fix for this? I am using Firefox 4.0.1 and Windows 7.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
If Firefox doesn't offer to store passwords in the Password Manager then check that you aren't running Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode.
Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
    * Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
    * In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
    * Do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

  • Safari will not autofill username/password for Hotmail

I cannot get safari to autofill my username and password for hotmail.com. Everywhere else it works but not hotmail. Anybody else have this problem and now how to fix it? I have had my computer for 3 years and gone from tiger to snow leopard and this problem has always been there.

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences and select the Autofill tab.
Click the Edit button next to "Other forms".
    Delete hotmail.com
Click the Edit button next to "User names and Passwords". Delete Hotmail
Relaunch Safari. If that didn't help...
Quit Safari. Open Keychain Access. (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left. Delete the "Safari Forms AutoFill" and Hotmail items. Relaunch Safari. Next time it asks for authorization, click "Always Allow".

  • Keychain won't remember WEP password

every time I try and get mail or connect to the internet via airport this machine fails, and after going through network diagnostics requires me to enter the WEP password ... EVERY TIME ... very annoying. I check the "remember this password" box (every time), but the machine WILL NOT remember the password ...HELP

Try opening your Keychain Access app (Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access) and going to Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid. There you can verify and repair problems in your keychain.

  • Firefox won't remember my passwords.

Firefox will not remember my passwords, the pop-up box doesn't appear. I have checked my settings, but I am unable to hook off the "Remember passwords for websites"-setting, it has a pale grey color. Does anyone know how to fix this?

You may be in Private Browsing mode, or told Firefox not to remember.
Type '''about:preferences#privacy'''<enter> in the address bar.
The button next to '''History,''' select '''Use Custom Settings'''.
Turn off '''Always use private browsing mode'''
Turn on '''Remember my browsing and download history'''
At the bottom of the page, turn on '''Clear History When Firefox Closes.'''
At the far right, press the '''Settings''' button. Turn on ONLY '''Cache''' and
'''Form And Search History''' leaving the others off.
