Safari won't respond to links when the URL is surrounded by apostrophes

I run XP under Parallels and use the Mac's Safari as my browser.
In XP, links that have an apostrophe in them won't open Safari; IE comes up instead.
The same link with quote marks around the a href do bring up the Mac's Safari. What to do.
E.g., In Eudora on the virtual XP machine, this launches safari:
<a href="...........">
But this launches IE:
< href='.............'>

  • Since Firefox updated yesterday, it won't respond to addresses in the url field or search terms in the search engine field. I can only go to addresses already in my bookmarks.

    When I type an address into the url field the browser will not load the page...it just sits there as though waiting for me to press enter. Also it won't respond to the recently used addresses that show in the dropdown menu. It will also not respond when I try to use the search engine field (google). This started yesterday after Firefox automatically updated to version 3.5.9. I don't get an error message, just no response at all.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
    This can also be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

    the cursor includes a text box from a previous image or link when the cursor is positioned on the side of the page. it will mainly happen when i hit "back" from the page i was on. i click and it goes away but only to return again on the next launched page. i also keep several tabs open and it will carry over to any one of them i go to. how do i get rid of this?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == when i upgraded to most recent version 3.6.8

    A number of extensions can cause that problem, you'll need to do a little troubleshooting to find out which extension is causing that to happen for you.

    Hi, ireland a.
    I would recommend closing any open applications in multitasking and restarting the device.  If unfamiliar with multitasking, I have included a screenshot on how to process an application close.
    iOS: Force an app to close
    Once these steps are processed, attempt to send the photo again.

  • My computer won't turn on.    When the charger is plugged in it flickers between yellow and green

    I was using my MacBook pro felt it charging and asleep for 4 hours.  I came back and it won't turn on.  When the battery is plugged in it flickers between yellow and green.

    First thing to try would be resetting the System Management Controller. If that doesn't fix it you are probably looking at a hardware issue. Carry the computer in to an Apple store or service provider, or call Apple to set up service.
    Best of luck.

  • Why won't my screen turn when the phone does?

    why won't my screen turn when the phone does?

    Not all apps support screen rotation. The Home screens do not rotate. But also check to make sure you have not locked screen rotation. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the Control Center and check that rotation lock is not on.

  • Why won't my background rotate when The IPAD turns anymore

    Why won't my background rotate when The IPAD turns anymore?

    You posted this in the iPhone forum. Check in Control Center (swipe up from the home screen) and see if the rotation lock is turned on there (an icon of a lock with a circled arrow).

  • Safari won't follow some links

    i'm developing a site in rails... testing the app locally works fine in firefox and safari. if i deploy to my remote server though, safari refuses to follow some links, and fails to obey some server-side redirects.
    the links are nothing out of the ordinary, like
    http://myserver.com/blog/2;edit
    if i tell safari to open in a new window, then the "Activity" window will show the URL with a status of "error" but no more information. these URLs all point to very plain xhtml pages... nothing i can think of to explain this behavior, especially given that safari has no problem when i'm serving from localhost.
    any ideas?
    thanks,
    jeff

    no ideas, but seeing it all the time too. generally it's when i hit a post button or submit certain forms. It does not correct itself going back or whatever. i just lose my post (***** when it's a long one) bounce over to firefox and no problem. give a safari can't open page window.

  • My phone won't use IMessage even when the person I'm txting has an iPhone why?

    Why won't my phone use iMessage even when the person in txting has an iphone

    I'm having same problem with sending to 3 people from a particular WiFi Network. For two people the iMessage i write is sending, but stops just before Delivery and then says not delivered. For the third person it immediately sends as text message.
    Answered to questions above.
    Can I send to others... Intermittent. Usually no, but then at some point a lot of iMessages comes at once.
    Settings have been enabled.
    Also other persons settings/Messages are enabling iMessage.
    Enabled for WiFi + non roaming cellular ( at my end it should mean only wifi as I am in roaming area with wifi available).
    Numbers are all enabled as we have used them a lot of times, an no changes or upgrades this month.
    So: it seems to me to be a WiFi issue here, but the odd thing is that it sometimes lets iMessages through.
    e-mail and browsing works fine.
    Any suggestions?

  • MBP won't offer 1920x1080 60Hz when the display is perfectly capable?

    I am trying to connect my 2010 MBP (10.6.8) to a Toshiba 39" LED HDTV (39L22U) through miniHDMI. I am extending the display, not mirroring it, and want a 1920x1080 60Hz resolution, but that is not an option on the list. "1080p (Television)" is one of the options, but it most certainly looks terrible just like most of the other resolutions. I have found that the best looking option strangely enough is 1360x768 60Hz, but 768p is not ideal and I know that the TV is capable of much more.
    I have downloaded programs like Switchresx and others to workaround and try to let me select the resolution, but have had no success with them. It kept telling me the resolution was invalid or something. Google has told others with a similar problem to use a miniDVI adapter, but the TV doesn't have DVI inputs and I would like to use the HDMI. I just got off the phone with Toshiba customer support and they told me that this is a Mac issue because the MBP sets the resolution, not their glorious TV.
    Why will my computer offer everything up to 1600x900 60Hz, but not the one thing I'm looking for 1920x1080 60Hz?

    Not resolved, only solution seems to be to ensure XP set to a single display before shutting down so that next time it can boot up when the LED display is not connected.

  • How can I get a selected link when the bookmark tab is on the side to stay bright blue or some other color

    I want the faded gray color to change to blue or another color after I click a link.

    The sidebar is no longer selected after you click a link in the sidebar, so the blue color is change to a gray color to indicate that the sidebar doesn't have focus..

  • Safari won't open Mac Mail when I click mailto: links

    When I click mailto: links, Safari opens entourage. When I deleted entourage and then clicked a mailto: link, I got an error message that said:
    Safari can’t open “mailto:jen(@)gothamist.com” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “mailto:”.
    I am using Safari version 1.3.2

    In Mail, navigate to its preferences from the 'Mail' menu and ensure that Mail is set as the 'Default Email Reader' under the 'General' section.

  • Safari won't play mp3 - only downloads the files

    Very annoying, this: I am running Safari 5.1.4 on a Lion MacBook Pro (latest version of Lion), but for some reason it won't play mp3 files - it always ends up downloading them.
    However, if I try the same web page with the same mp3 files on, say, Chrome, they play just fine.
    How can I fix this?

    Thanks for the reply, but that's not what I want at all - it's too inconvenient.
    I want mp3 files etc. to play back from *within* Safari, like it used to. Not sure when this was broken, but it is broken. As I said in the first message, playing mp3s etc. from within Chrome works just fine (I don't have to open another app to play them back), so I know this should work in Safari, too.

  • How can I copy a link when the site address doesn't show up in my address bar?
