Safari won't run after restart
Running Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro 17" unibody. Just did a CarbonCopyCloner back-up, then restarted the machine. Noticed my Safari icon in the dock looked weird (generic note icon). Went to my apps and noticed the Safari.app icon looks the same (no Safari icon... only a generic note icon) and Safari won't launch at all from the Safari.app.
I primarily use Firefox and Chrome, so loosing Safari is no biggie, but I'd like to know what the heck happened after restart. Any clues?
Thanks!
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Calculation Script... won't run after restart of acrobat
I added a custom calculation script to a field. Works like a charm.
However if I restart acrobat the script refuses to run. I go in and confirm the script is there.
If i go in an just add a space or a comment to the script it will start running again.
Any ideas?
I also saved the PDF and opened it in reader on another machine. Won't run there.
So I attached it to an onfocus event and that seems to work fine after saving??
So I then tried adding a "simplified field notation" and the same behavior exists there. If i restart acrobat the only way i can get the simple notation to run is if I remove it and then re-add it. Otherwise it does nothing.
Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks in advance.George,
I wasn't clear enough. The script does nothing. Editing values of text boxes that would trigger the calculation to occur will not run until after I have edited the script. (something as silly as just adding a comment will cause it to work again)
For the simple calculation I need to remove it completely and add it again before it will work
Here is an example for a net worth box:
Add to "simple field notation"
assets - liabilities
Then I hit ok and whenever I add in some liabilities or assets those 2 fields are updated and my networth field is updated. Thats works great
I save the file and then open it back up and add some liabilies/assets and the fields I used the built in "sum" function on continue to work (assets and liabilities) however my "simple field notation" does not update my networth field.
I go back into field designer and verify that the simple field calculation radio box is still selected and that it still says
assets - liabilities
It continues not to run. I then go back in and edit it to remove the calculation.
I then open it up again and select "simple field notation" and type in
assets - liabilities
This then works immediately and i am happy again until i save/restart acrobat (or try to open the PDF on another PC)
Then I am sad again because the script doesn't run.
I tried all these same steps with a JavaScript too. It will work until acrobat is restarted. If i edit the script by adding a space or comment it will start running again.
So frustrating! Any help is appreciated. -
I was monitoring an oes2sp2 linux srvr with NRM (this is a vm on a xen kernal) when the cpu utilization went up to 100%. I discoverd that the httpstkd process was causing the high utilization. So I issued a restart using the rcnovell-httpstkd restart. Now NRM won't launch and viewing the action using top I can't see the httpstkd process running. I haven't tried a restart on the server but that seems like the last resort.

Safari won't launch after 3.1.1. download mistake
safari won't launch after download of 3.1.1 by mistake I only have OS 10.3.9.
mail won't relaunch either, i downloaded camino it won't launch either, my fire fox works but i can't get to my mail. How do I clean up this mess.Mail relies on WebKit for rendering, so it may have problems even after you got rid of the old Safari. I would try download the Mac OS X 10.3.9 Combo Update, and that should update WebKit and everything else for you. It's a 117 MB download, including all the extra languages.
As for upgrading to 10.4.11, that's a completely new version of Mac OS X compared to your current version. It's faster, has more features, and you can actually run Safari 3.1.1 on it. It's not sold by Apple anymore, but various retailers have unsold copies still available. You might want to check around locally for a "Retail" (boxed) copy, or even on eBay for the same thing. Don't even think about buying a cheap copy for a laptop, since those are specific to those machines; you always want the full boxed copy.

AE CS6 won't run after the Mavericks 10.9.3 update
My AE CS6 won't run after the Mavericks 10.9.3 update the other day. I was prompted that the current version of my AE was 11.0, so I searched and found the seemingly most up-to-date here: Adobe - After Effects : For Macintosh : Adobe After Effects CS6 11.0.4 Update : Thank You
My question is this: since I'm new to Mac, should I download the update and install it to my existing instance of AE and it will allow AE CS6 to run as normal? And the way to install the update is simply to double-click the .dmg?
Thanks!Instructions for installing the update are on the download page here:

Itunes won't run after download
itunes won't run after download. simply asks to acknowledge agreement which I did. help
You appear to be able to backup your contacts without iTunes. Google "backup iphone contacts without itunes".
The way to avoid having to get a tech person in is to get past the idea that your problem (which you still haven't defined) is "beyond my ability to fix". ;-) -
Safari won't start, after installing X Lion
Safari won't start, after installing X Lion
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Step 1
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -
Safari 3.0.2 won't run after 3.0.1 worked fine
Safari 3.0.1 was working fine for me on win xp pro after copying fonts to address text problem. I downloaded 3.0.2 and installed. the install appeared to work fine, but when I try to run safari, i get no error and it won't run. I've turned off firewall & AV software, etc. I have uninstalled and re-installed. I even tried reinstalling 3.0.1 after uninstalling 3.0.2. all to no avail. any suggestions?
Windows XP Projust a suggestion but have you tried cleaning safari from your registry?? The reason I ask is because if you save bookmarks then uninstall safari and then reinstall it still has your bookmarks, so not all files are being deleted upon uninstall. Don't know if that helps you but its worth a try

Safari won't open without restart after installing Yosemite
After I installed Yosemite, safari won't open from sleep mode without me restarting my computer. Should I or can I uninstall Yosemite and reinstall or is there another fix? Thank You for any help.
Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
is checked.
2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
3. Reset the PRAM.
4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
9. Reset the System Management Controller.
10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.
Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked
Wake for Wi-Fi network access
and
Enable Power Nap...
if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck
Enable Power Nap...
11. Reinstall OS X. -
Safari won't start after sleep, forces restart
After upgrading to Mt Lion, I've been having trouble getting Safari to work after waking the computer up from sleep. Usually the Safari window never actually opens, although Safari is apparently running. Then when I force-quit Safari, the error reporting console won't respond and I get a beach ball instead. One time I got an error that said Safari could not be forced to quit. After that I've been just holding the power button until the computer shuts off.
I already tried resetting Safari and repairing permissions.
This is on a 2010 27" iMac. I don't/didn't have any plugins/extensions installed in Safari.
Any solutions?update fixed it for me

Safari won't open after OS 10.4 software update combo update
I am working on a computer iMac g5 1.8ghz, 600 mhz Bus, 512mb Ram was 10.3.9 but Safari was not working because Safari 3.1.1 was installed. I tried removing all safari, cache, plist to no avail, Firefox worked after reinstall. I remove safari and upgraded the station to OS 10.4.5, when the install finished it had installed Safari 2 and I was able to open it, I ran the Software update, which included the combo to upgrade to 10.4.11, reset the indicator light and one more update that I can't remember and now I am back to where I started Safari won't open.
I can open Firefox so I know it's not network related,
I've repaired permissions and restarted
I've created a secondary Admin account, so I know it's not the profile.
I've deleted plist and cache of safari before I did the OS update
After the combo upgrade, now Both Safari 3.0.4 and Software update will not open.
Does anyone have some insight on this? I've spent hours on this supposed quick fix my friend needed.Hello h:
At this point, I would suggest an archive and install (and then run software updater, do not try to decide what updates to install yourself):

Since yesterday evening (19-01-2015) safari won't start. After clicking the safari application it shows an error message: Safari can't use the extension "Omnibar" because the extension is no longer valid.
This message almost directly disappears whereupon the Problem Report opens. I've tried to find a solution on the web but without succes.
I'm running OS X Yosemite version 10.10.1 and Safari version 8.0.2 on a:
MacBook Pro (Retina 13-inch, Mid 2014)
Processor 3 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel Iris 1536 MB
Since I updated to Yosemite I've been having multiple problems. I already read a clean install will solve most of them. But till then I would love safari to work again.
Thanks! There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked. -

Apple update this morning - now Safari won't run
This morning my MACBook Pro 15 went through an Apple update, installing updates to Safari, iTunes and a security update. Upon reboot, there was a crash notice and the message told me to hold down power button to shutdown and then restart. After the restart, iTunes is fine, my MBP seems good otherwise. Safari won't start. it's in my dock, when I click on it, it blinks once and stops. It never launches. Firefox is fine. I have searched other issues like this reported here and have gone through the troubleshooting I have seen. I have deleted plist file, moved plugins, deleted cache and history, rebooting a few times, etc. Any help is appreciated.
