Safari won't run YouTube

My mac has all of a sudden decided to refuse to access YouTube.  It tells me it can't connect to the YouTube server.  Any suggestions?

Double-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
www.youtube.com
Launch the Network Utility application.
Step 1
Select the Lookup tab and paste into the address field by pressing command-V. Then press return. Post the output that appears below – the text, please, not a screenshot.
Step 2
Select the Ping tab and do the same. Please enter the same input as you did in Step 1. Don't use the output of Step 1 as input to Step 2.
Important Note
Some web browsers and mail clients will automatically convert a domain name such as "www.example.com" to a clickable URL, such as http://www.example.com. That will interfere with the test. If necessary, edit the input in the Network Utility window to remove any added characters.

    2DivX?
    Try installing Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs. In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
    Lala download
    What is that?

  • Safari won't play youtube videos anymore. I've never had trouble in the past. I switched to chrome but then back to safari and changed the default browser to safari. Now safari won't open any sites that require a user and password. Any suggestions?

    Hello everyone,
I've recently been getting error messages on youtube videos when using safari. This never used to happen. I tried using chrome but it didn't take care of the problem. When I set my default browser back to safari, safari won't open any websites that require a username and password. Any suggestions?

My case is different from those listed below.  First, I'm running OS X 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.5.
    My problem is this:
I run a Google search, say, "youtube somesong", and from the hit list returned from google I
pick some selection. Youtube launches and plays the video without problems.  However, when
i click on any of the alternate videos from the page's  vertical list, only the name of the chosen video
appears beneath the video I just watched.  The new selection itself is not loaded by Safari.
This occurs for any selection I choose.  My way around this problem is to force a Safari reload of
the page by using the keyboard shortcut, Command-R.  This fills in the old video window with the
video I just chose.  Can I conclude that this is a Safari issue alone, or is it a Safari/Youtube combo gotcha?  Anyway, the present condition *****.
This problem began sometime after i upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I have reset Safari and have also
deleted the Youtube.com Cache, Cookies, and Local Storage from the Privacy settings under
System Preferences. I have also tested the problem by running Safari in 32 bit mode (no luck there).
If anyone out there has experienced this scenario, I sure could use a little help here.

Safari 5.1.6 won't run on my Pro. It was Safari 6 on the MacBook I transfered the data from. Could this be the problem, and if so, how do I up grade to Safari 6? I can't seem to find any help.

Lion should be running Safari 6. Try Software update. Or apply the Lion 10.7.4 Combo installer:

  • Safari won't run after restart

Running Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro 17" unibody.  Just did a CarbonCopyCloner back-up, then restarted the machine.  Noticed my Safari icon in the dock looked weird (generic note icon). Went to my apps and noticed the Safari.app icon looks the same (no Safari icon... only a generic note icon) and Safari won't launch at all from the Safari.app.
I primarily use Firefox and Chrome, so loosing Safari is no biggie, but I'd like to know what the heck happened after restart.  Any clues?
    Thanks!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Apple update this morning - now Safari won't run

This morning my MACBook Pro 15 went through an Apple update, installing updates to Safari, iTunes and a security update.  Upon reboot, there was a crash notice and the message told me to hold down power button to shutdown and then restart.  After the restart, iTunes is fine, my MBP seems good otherwise.  Safari won't start.  it's in my dock, when I click on it, it blinks once and stops.  It never launches.  Firefox is fine.  I have searched other issues like this reported here and have gone through the troubleshooting I have seen.  I have deleted plist file, moved plugins, deleted cache and history, rebooting a few times, etc.  Any help is appreciated.

  • [Win2K] Safari won't run

Apple Software Update installed Safari on my computer. It never noticed that Safari doesn't run on Windows 2000 Professional.
Then, I tried to run Safari. It started loading the Apple website, then died and complained:
Safari.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.
Safari never bothered to check what version of Windows it was running on.
I use only Macs at home, and was looking forward to using Safari at work.
    You blew it Apple.

I think this is about a slightly different issue than just whether Safari supports Win2K or not (actually, vesions up to 3.0.3 ran fine for me during several months of frequent use).
The problem here seems to be that ASU offers Safari as an update on Win2K even though it may no longer work on this platform.
With a market share in single digits, Win2k-specific bugs are probably not at the top of the priority list, but generally there are relatively few applications (apart from some of Microsoft's own, and more low-level type things than browsers) that run on Win XP, but not on Win2kl, and typically these fail in a very obvious way, like missing some DLLs, or refusing to install. So losing compatibility with Win2k from one beta to another could actually be an indication of a more general bug that is probably worth understanding...

  • Upgraded to Yosemite, Now Safari Won't Load Youtube and Other Sites

I upgraded to Yosemite the day of. Almost immediately I found that Safari no longer would load Youtube. At all. It would just sit and spin and work and eventually say that the page wasn't available. This was also a problem with other websites. For instance, IGN would load, but it was very, very slow. Redirected webpages from Youtube that used URL shorteners would do the same thing as Youtube, it would just sit and crank away and finally give up.
When I try the same thing with Google Chrome, it loads those pages just fine. Youtube and these sites also work on my Macbook and my iPad, so I believe the problem is specific to my iMac.
So... I got really angry a few days ago and did a complete reformat of my computer. I didn't restore my old image from Time Machine, but I did a brand new install and just backed up some precious files. I re-installed Yosemite on my freshly cleaned hard drive and low and behold, Youtube worked, as did all the others!
But after about four days, the same problem is happening again. Youtube won't load, redirects from Facebook using URL shortening is a disaster again. I'm losing my mind. What could be causing this problem!?? Reformatting was the only idea I had, and I thought it was a very thorough solution. Is Safari doing this for anybody else?
    My system:
    iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB
    Running Yosemite Version 10.10

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Safari won't run

    Hello,
When trying to open Safari it quits unexpectedly. The error message in the report is "image not found for lazy pointer". The same thing happens when trying to run Apple Help but not Appleworks. This may have happened after the installation of Safari Update 2.0.1 and Security Update 2005-007 1.1
    Thank you for your help.
    Anne

    Hi Anne,
    b Welcome to Apple Discussions
I am clueless as to particular meaning of the error report. While you wait for one of the real pros who assist folks, like me, here, this won't hurt.
Repair permissions via Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.app

  • Safari won't play youtube audio

Safari will not play the audio on Youtube videos.  I unenrolled from the Safari HTML5 study (found as an answer to another question), but that did not work.  Audio plays on Firefox.

    Hi..
Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin, so try troubleshooting ...
    Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important uninstall the currently installled plugin first.
Then launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • Safari - won't open youtube or google!!

    Hi there,
i'm having bad safari nightmares at the moment: I can't download either youtube or google.com! All other sites i've tried to visit seem to be fine - and another machine I have next to this one downloads anything. I've reinstalled Safari, run the disk utility /repair permission, and restarted the machine. Nothing. Any ideas? Or should I empty the free space onto hard drive and reinstall the OS?
    Many thanks for your help.

    I hope guessing is allowed.
Your behind a proxy server -- disable it.
You running a third-party firewall -- disable it.
Hawaiian_Starman posts the following and it work for many people.
Quit Safari and add DNS server numbers to your System Preferences ->Network panel.
Select your type of connection and then select Advanced.
In the DNS servers panel enter 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 if you live in the US and click Apply.
Outside the US - use 208.67.222.220 and 208.67.220.222 and click Apply.
Launch Safari and from the Safari menu select Empty Cache - try the url's again.
    Good luck,
    Tom

  • Safari won't run citrix receiver but firefox does it, I want safari to do this too

Since the change to Mavericks I have a problem running Citrix Receiver in Safari. Before I had no problems what so ever. I discovered that Firefox does the job. But I want Safari to do the job. It must be somewhere in the preference I suspect. Who can help??

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot insafe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari won't run in 32-bit mode?

Hi, until yesterday I was able to run Safari in 32-bit and some applications/utilities such as LiveDictionary and WebSnapper could run in this manner. Suddenly this morning the above mentioned applications don't work any more and I think the problem is that Safari for some strange reason is not running any longer in 32-bit mode. Its setting in 32-bit mode is OK. I have toggled on/off the 32-bit setting. I have reset safari. I have re-installed Livedicionary and WebSnapper, but they don't work any more. Any idea about this issue? Is there any tools to verify run-time in which mode Safari is running?
    Thank you.

G'day Enzo - and welcome to the forums!
To confirm the mode of an application, simply open Activity Monitor. It will tell you what you need to know.
Personally, I am running Safari in 64bit mode... and waiting for the developers of 1Password to finally release the updated version that is fully compatible. The benefits of running in 64 bit mode are many!
    Cheers,
    Rodney

  • Safari won't run on multiple 2013 Macbook Airs

Hi, I purchased a 2013 MBA on Saturday.  When I got home and fired it up I discovered Safari would crash in seconds.  Couple of hours talking to Applecare but nothing worked.  I went back to the store on Sunday (an hour away) and exchanged it.  That new MBA also couldn't run Safari.  The tech opened a third computer with a different number sequence and it too could not run Safari.  They put google on so I'd have a browser.  I'm debating whether to return the computer though concerned that I'm stuck with tech that is going to have a long running problem as I've been completely unable to find any mention of others having this issue and fixing it.  The fact that 3 brand new computers in a row had the same issue makes me wonder if anyone else has found this and discovered a fix for it yet? Suggestions?

    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.
