Safari won't stop reformatting or reflowing page

Anyone else having problems with Safari constantly reformatting/reflowing pages with comments? For example, this page:
http://money.cnn.com/2012/07/31/news/economy/drought-oil-us/index.htm?hpt=hp_t3
The page is full width then the slider appears indicating that the page is wider than the window. The slider continues to shrink until it is a circle. Then it disappears and the page is full width for a second. Then the thing starts all over again.
I have noticed this peculiar behavior on a couple of other websites in the comment sections as well.
Safari 6.0 on OS 10.7.4.

Carolyn:
Thanks for the suggestion but clearing cahes and cookies etc. doesn't help. The interface still lacks a "stop loading page" feature. Here I am a month later and the pages still hang and require quitting Safari. Can anyone load <http://www.allmusic.com/> regularly? I got it once a few weeks ago but something on their page generally messes with my Safari 5.1.
However on checking I find it only happens in my user account. I can switch to another account and that works fine on the same pages so it's a problem with something in my set of prefs, addins or other.
I'll report back if I can figure it out.

  • I just got a new Ipod mini and it won't stop reformatting!

I just got my Ipod mini, and put in the installation disc. I got to the screen where it says to connect your ipod (so i did) and to see if it needs reformatting. well, it did, so I am now waiting for it to stop reformatting so i can finished installing itunes and the rest. it has now been on the same screen for over an hour. is this normal? and if not, what should i do? should i "continue without connecting my ipod" as one checkbox asks?

If you are stuck in the formatting/Restore process, click on the little 'x' in the top corner. It may take you to the next stage in the process. Sometimes it gets hung up.
    If this doesn’t work:
    - Shut down the computer
    - Disconnect the iPod
    - Restart the computer
    - Run the updater again
    - Connect the iPod when prompted.
Post back with results, or a bit more detail on where you are in the process.

  • Safari won't load MSN Entertainment web pages

I am having some trouble with Safari. Over the same network, the Safari is slower than my older PCs to load web pages, and some pages, usually in MSN Entertainment (particularly movies) won't load at all. I get a Bad Request message on an otherwise blank white web page. Frustrating, especially as this causes my otherwise wonderful wife to complain regularly about the otherwise fantastic iMac I am typing on. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hello Tom,
    Welcome to Apple discussions
Like Klaus, his link works for me as do the two you just posted.
That is on my powerbook 10.4.8 Safari 2.0.4
Do you have DNS Server#s entered in the DNS server field, in Network's,
Show: Airport or Ethernet [whichever is the case] TCP/IP tab , if not try doing that.
You can get the #'s from your ISP or from the PortForward pages.
    Also these.....
Verizon (Level3) - these are not restricted to Verizon customers
    4.2.2.1
    4.2.2.2
    4.2.2.3
    4.2.2.4
    4.2.2.5
    4.2.2.6
    work well for many users.
If you use Earthlink, the Opt out numbers are not found on the portforward pages, the supported elink DNS are found there, but for many of us they led to highjacking..
The opt out # are as follows...
    207.69.188.171 (west coast)
    207.69.188.172 ( east coast)
If you're west of the Mississippi, use the west coast DNS server as your primary and the east coast as secondary. And vice-versa for those of you in the eastern U.S.
They come from this the Dead Domain ... blog.
    • Make sure your Router is updated with the latest firmware, & that the routers firewall is not blocking MSN, for some reason or other.

  • Safari won't open .pdf and .wmv pages

Safari does not work when I try to access a webpage with a pdf. I get a black page and and a spinning ball.
Safari does not work when I try a link on a web page for a .wmv. This time it's a blank page with a spinning ball. I am even unable to close the tab, and have to force quit safari.
I have windows media (.app) and adobe. Both functions work well in Firefox, but don't work in Safari. I also have the .app flip for mac, which is supposed to to work with Safari. I'm not sure this is the problem.
Also, when I close Safari I sometimes get a message asking if I want to send details to Apple re Safari crashing. I guess it doesn't know when I am closing it vs when it crashes.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Joe

I saw that Flip4Mac support was referring some people to the beta version of the current release of their software, due to random WMV streaming problems. You might want to grab that version off their iDisk public folder: Go > iDisk > other users public folder (flip4mac is the member name) You will see a folder called "Flip4Mac installers", download installer v.2.2.039
If you're gonna try that, I'd recommend uninstalling the current F4M version first. Post back if it works to solve your issues.
One more note is that you may want to check out the F4M users forum to see if any of your particular problems are mentioned there. The moderator, Craig, is pretty good about responding. Their forum is HERE.

  • Two finger "back" of "forward" swipe in Safari won't work on PDF web pages.

This is a problem that carries forward from OSX 10.6 when using the swipe gesture on the magic mouse for browsing "back" and "forward" in Safari. It now continues with the mouse and on the track pad in 10.7.  When viewing PDF web pages the 'back" and "forward" swipe gestures work only sometimes, and when they do work, it requires a much faster swipe.  There are no issues associated with clicking on the back and forward buttons at the top left corner of Safari, so this appear to be isolated to gestures.  Is there any solution to correct this inconsistency?
    Thanks,
    Marc

Indeed, swiping back from pdf pages sometimes works, but most often does not.
It seems that the swiping gesture has in all cases changed slightly. It is now necessary to swipe a little until a portion of the previous page is uncovered, and only then can one swipe back.
The fact that there is a specific way to swipe back from html pages suggests that there might be an equally specific way to swipe back from pdf pages. I am still experimenting. Meanwhile make sure no one is sitting to your right in case your trackpad flies off during a gesture trial.

  • Safari won't display Microsoft Outlook WebAccess pages correctly

    Hi,
The scroll bars are all messed up when displaying MS outlook webaccess pages. It works fine in firefox, is there any solution to this.
Also my companies SAP portal pages have the same issue.
    What gives with Safari....
    Mark.

post a screenshotof it, upload it to an image hosting place such as photobucket or imageshack.us
because i think i might know what your talking about and want to see if its the same issue i experience with various sites.
safari itself is NOT up to standard and apple developers are aware of this, their color renderings, font display and website coding/rendering are a tad behind wiht the new current of browser standards.
might also try the webkits available to see if that resolves the issue.

  • Safari won't open links without refreshing page

I've noticed a recent problem with Safari where I click on a link and it hangs and doesn't open. I refresh the page and then it opens right up. Anybody else having this issue? Any ideas how to resolve?

    Empty Caches.
    1. Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
"Develop" menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
    2. Quit Safari if open.
Option click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
        Select "Library" and then "Caches".
        Look for the folder 'com.apple.Safari"
Right click "com.apple.Safari" and select "Move to Trash"
        Relaunch Safari.

  • Safari won't load a certain web page

I really like the new Safari update, but just recently, when I click to go to one certain news page, it just keeps loading and I get the spinning ball. (Other pages load normally.) Then I have to force quit Safari and start again. This situation occurs on all accounts on my MacBook running Tiger 10.4.11.
It does NOT occur on my PC when I'm running either IE or Safari.
    Any ideas? TIA

A Restart seems to have corrected the problem.

  • Safari won't open more than one page at a time

I only got a new ipad 2 about a week ago. My safari is working perfectly but when I go to open a new tab it freezes and exits the safari. I have tried rebooting it and my iPad is fully up to date. I need help because I can't find any answer to my problem.

    Hi,
Launch Firefox in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/safe+mode Safe Mode]. All extensions and themes will be disabled. Now try to open multiple windows and/or tabs. If it works, it proves you have a corrupt [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#new profile] probably caused by a bad extension (or upgrade).
    To make a new profile:
    * Close Firefox
    * Click on windows start button
    * %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ in the Search box at the bottom of the Start menu (without hitting Enter).
    * A list of profiles will appear
    * Change the name of the "default" folder
    * Restart Firefox
If this solved your problem, you can install your addons, or just copy them from the old default folder (which you have changed the name) to the new one.
    Kind regards,
    Joren

  • Safari won't open my set browser page? How do I set a different browser page?

So any advice for a old Mac user who has a Mac OS X  with an outdated Safari which will not open up my set browser window ? Can I reset to a different window?

  • OfficejetPro 8000 won't stop cleaning, printing test pages

Every time just after we print, our Officejet Pro 8000 A809 prints a test page, then starts cleaning and nothing can be printed again for several minutes. The test page can be canceled, but not the cleaning cycle. If we add several documents to the print queue quickly, it will print those documents, but always the test page and cleaning cycle afterwards. The cleaning cycle seems to be using a lot of ink. The page it's printing has CMYK stripes down each side and bars running down the middle, some slanted.
I've tried resetting the printer by unplugging it, the queue doesn't show any errors, and neither does the HP "Solution" Center.
    Thanks for any help.

Just a quick update as HP seem completely incapable of answering threads here, offering advice (tried their woeful helpline which just reiterated advice I'd already read in the manual), or helping their customers at all. I've returned the printer to the supplier, as it was completely intolerable, after 3 days of its cleaning process (twice taking over 15 minutes) it refused to print half the colours, and after yet more cleaning it exhausted the inks – it I hadn't paid for the device, I'd have laughed... To market and sell this device as a small workgroup printer is ridiculous, it doesn't even properly function as a printer at all. We've been purchasing HP devices since the 550C way back in the early 1990s, but will never purchase a printer from HP again. Slowly but surely the devices have become cheaper, poorly built, with the focus on tiny ink cartridges to fleece the customer. I'm absolutely disgusted with the lack of assistance, support, let alone the truly abysmal device which is/was the 8000.

  • Safari Won't Play Videos on Blog Pages

All the videos on my blog and other's blogs won't play. When I click on the play button I get a message in the video box that says, This video is not currently available. Please try again later.
What can I do to play videos?

The site requires the Flash plugin.
Try uninstalling then reinstalling.. see if that helps.

  • Safari Won't Load Half Of The Pages I Visit But Mozilla Will. Why?

I love Safari's interface but I don't like the fact that it never properly loads a webpage like it should.
Facebook, You Tube, and sites like that never load the images for some reason. There are many other sites that Safari can't handle but these are the two popular sites that I experience problems with.
Mozilla will (but I hate Mozilla), so this has nothing to do with my internet connection.
Are you guys experiencing the same problem? Is there any solution to this problem?
I have the latest version that came with Leopard.

These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
    Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • MBP Safari won't stop crashing

I just bought my MBP today, I transferred my files and applications from my old iBook using the setup assistant.
I then tried to open Safari but it "unexpectedly quits" before it finishes loading every single time. Firefox works fine.
Also have an error message everytime I boot up saying that my Norton Antivirus auto-protect cannot be enabled. If I try to perform LiveUpdate for Norton it freezes the whole system.
I saw on someone else's question that perhaps Symantec (Norton) software might have something to due with my safari problem.
i'd really appreciate some help and not have to go to the genius bar after just buying the dang thing. thanks!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

does safari have any ppc plugins installed? this is quite often the problem.
also i would seriously consider removing the norton software. it is almost impossible to get a virus on a mac unless you are completely careless, and the norton software tends to cause more problems than it solves for macs. it also slows down your computer.
