Safari wont open web pages

When opening certain web pages I get an error that says '.....safari can't open.....because safari can't find the server.....'
Does anyone know what is causing this?
Thanks

You are likely having a networking problem or a specific web site problem and not a problem with Safari.  Some web pages (those that you have visited before) may still seem to load because all web browsers "cache" pages you have alread visited.
If you have another web browser like Google Chrome you should try that first and see if the same pages load.  If they don't load then it's likely your Internet connection instead of Safari.
Then, try a few major web sites directly in Safari by typing in "google.com" in the address bar and hit [return].  Then, try, "amazon.com".  If those load, then it's likely just a problem with specifis web servers.  You'll just need to wait and try later.  If those sites do not load, then continue on with these steps.
To see if you are having an internet connectivity problem, open "Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal".  Then type "ping 8.8.8.8" (do not type to quotes) and hit the return key.  Wait about 10 seconds and then hit [control] and [c] keys at the same time to end the output.
If the last few lines of output say something like ...
"--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0.0% packet loss"
... then your Internet connectivity is fine, but you could be having a DNS server problem.  To troubleshoot that, try changing your DNS servers form the defaults provided by your ISP, to more reliable servers of Google:
Open "System Preferences" > "Network" > "Advanced" > "DNS", then click the "+" button under DNS Servers, type in "8.8.8.8", and then click "OK".
Then try those web sites again.  If they work, then great, you can leave things this way perminently.  If that doesn't solve the issue then you likely have an Internet outage that your ISP will need to solve for you.

  • Safari wont open web pages using Vista

After installing Safari on a windows vista PC I keep getting the same message Safari can’t open the page. I am able to open web pages with internet explorer

I'm using Vista too and have no problems accessing webpages with Safari. Do you use a Proxy? Maybe your Firewall blocks Safari...

  • Safari wont open any pages?!?

I just installed safari and it wont open any pages at all. I restarted, reinstalled and nothing. I deleted all files/registry entries for it then installed it again and no changes its just stuck. All other browsers (Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, IE 10 & Opera) are working w/o any problems.

Apple stopped supporting Safari for Windows.
Use another browser of your choice.
    Best.

  • Safari wont open bookmarked page, "invalid address"

Problem with iPad2. Safari is my browser. Running latest ios.
I have had my photobucket page saved as a bookmark for a couple of years. And until recently no problems accessing photobucket thru that bookmarked url.
But recently, when i select that bookmark, the photobucket page opens briefly and then a popup message says "safari cant open this page, address is invalid". Meanwhile the page is clearly open there in the background, with various items changing etc as normal. I clicked the OK button in the message, but it immediately reappears and will not go away. Safari is then effectively stuck and the only way i can clear it and navigate to any other url is to close, open email, find a link to another url, and click that, this starts Safari on a second page and i can then close both pages if I am quick.
    PITA!
I have tried clearing history, cookies, and deleted the original bookmark and searched for photobucket and clicked on the link in the search results, but as soon as i get to the photobucket page the same thing happens.
I can access the same photobucket page via my PC without any such problems. So its clearly a problem with Safari or something on my iPad.
Any ideas on how to solve this?
    Thanks!

It seems to be caused by Javascript. If you disable it in settings/safari the pop up window will not appear. However the drop down menus etc will not work without Javascript. Best option is to download "Chrome" or "Mercury" or wait for Photobucket to fix it:)
If you enable the "De Bug" console it will sometimes work. I am currently using an Ipad 1 with OS 5.1.1 but the problem also happens on an Ipad 3 with OS 7

  • Safari wont open a page

At one particular web site ( a log on site for a library) Safari 4.0.3 the browser downloads the web page to download folder as "webquery-38.dll.html" When I click on it it either opens at another page of the library or as a text file. I have tried clearing the cache, resetting safari, and the playing with security. This is the only site I have trouble with and the administrators of the site say it works with their Safari. They suggest using another browser. Any suggestions as it must be something with my computer/safari
    Cheers RicB

They are adamant they have tried with all versions and all platforms. It is th eonly web site that wont open so I and they are at a loss. They suggested I try another browser!!!

  • Safari wont open account page

Hi, im relatively new to mac having just purchased an i phone 4 and looking to upgrade to a mac mini for a home system. I am using safari on my windows based laptop everything works fine except it wont allow me to open my orange mobile account page. every-time i try i get this error message
Safari can’t open the page “https://services.orange.co.uk/launchpad/launch?ServiceId=sss” because Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server “services.orange.co.uk”.
i have tried everything to open the page including typing the url into the address bar instead of using the link, but nothing works. I can open IE at the same time on a different tab and open the account page straight away. ive contacted orange and they say there is nothing wrong with there website, and apple have never replied to my email. Any help would be appreciated as its a bit annoying as i hate IE
    thanks

Interesting. I can't open that page in Safari either. (Same symptoms as yours, XP SP3 box.)
IE 8 and Firefox 3.6.8 can get through to a login page. But if I try opening it with Chrome, I get told that the site is under maintenance.
Both Chrome and Safari are webkit-based ... I wonder if it's a generalised webkit problem?

  • Safari not opening web page with 10.4 thru 10.6 either on wireless or direct connect Cat 5, any ideas?

    Hello,
Have a 2006 MBP core duo that Safari seems to stall and not load web pages using wireless or CAT 5, have reloaded the OS starting with Tiger and have progressed thru Snow Leopard and still no luck, I-chat works no issues and have done all the updates both wireless and via CAT 5, any suggestions?

Try emptying the Safari cache more often.   Command + Option + E
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, from your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Cllick Change Settings from the Proxies pop up menu. That will launch System Preferences for you.
Deselect any checked boxes on the left under Select a protocol to configure then click OK.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Internet Browsers wont open web pages.

I have Windows 7 Home.  None of my internet browsers (firefox,IE,chrome)  will open any web pages.  Was working fine the day before and now nothing.  When you type in an address or search on the google tab it just thinks for a a while
then the address bar goes blank and nothing happens.   Internet is connected and working fine by cable.  Other computers on same network are working regular. Please help... did alot of searching on forums and nothing i have tried yet has worked.
    Thank you.

    Hi Biggy,
I agree Zigzag, the issue can be caused by one of the following factors:
    a. Network connectivity issue or network-related issue such as DNS resolve.
    b. Malware.
    c. A conflict with firewall or a firewall configuration issue.
    d. Third-party software or Internet connections settings issues.
    e. Internet Explorer configuration settings.
    f. Certain core Windows files are corrupted or missing.
Meanwhile, I would like suggest you try the solution from the link below about a similar case:

  • Why does safari stop opening web pages after a while in use?

Since upgrading to Lion, my imac (Intel) 21.5 works fine for most of the time, but frequently when using Safari to browse the internet, it will stop accessing pages, either from new searches or from history - the blue loading bar in the address panel starts, then stops. Safari itself keeps working, new tabs can be opened, history can be checked, etc. Checking the Wi-Fi shows that it is still connected, and other PCs and ipods in the house can still access the net, showing it is not a net or router problem. Restarting the machine does not usually cure the issue, only shutting down for a long period, eg overnight, when it generally starts up fine again.
This has been happening almost since I upgraded 2 months ago, but not every time we use Safari.

You can do some basic Safari trouble shooting by:
    Safari - Reset Safari
    Safari - Empty Cache
You can also be just low on RAM. As a general rule your system should have about 500MB or more of FREE RAM. To check to see how much your system has open Activity Monitor - System Memory Tab and look for the amount of free RAM. You can find AM in Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor. Remember to check when you are seeing a slow down otherwise the information will be meaningless. The graphic will look similar to:

  • Safari wont open any pages that require log in

Hi, we are having problems accessing any internet pages that require log in from Safari on our macbook pro, including Facebook, hotmail, bank site, and even this forum (on the old pc now). All other pages work fine.
Things we have tried so far, restart, delete cache, reset safari, changing dns.
This is extremely frustrating as we have only had the macbook for 5 days!
    any suggestions?

If you are using proxy settings
Try going to system preferences, network, advanced, proxies and http and https have the same settings.

  • Safari not opening secure pages

    Hey All,
Safari wont open any pages such as youtube, facebook etc saying that it cannot establish a secure server. This just happened about 3 hours ago just as my mac went to sleep. The only new thing I did was use an HDMI cable to connect to my TV. The mac had been shutdown for low battery because i fell asleep on movie. Anyways, I woke up plugged in my charger only to find that i can't connect to certain sites... Further compounding my problem is a taskbar that says "The certificate for this website is invalid. You might be connecting to a website that is pretending to be <url here>..." HELP!!!

Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar. Log into the Guest User.
    Test Safari.
If it works in the new User, we know it's a problem in your User's folder, If it fails in the new User it's a problem with the base files.
Let us know what happens in the new User and we'll work on a fix.

im not very technically, sorry so if i worded some things wrong i apolgise
It's oke. In Facebook options set your accesspoint to always ask before connecting aswell as other apps like your browser, etc..... Change packet-data settings from when available to when needed.

  • Safari cannot open the page ~ The error was: "There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP)

Help!  I was cruzing along just fine and went out tonight only to receive the message above:
    Cannot open Page
    Safari cannot open the page
The error was: "There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP)."
I have had all the Apple iPhone phone.  Have never encountered anything like this.
All systems are GO as soon as I log on to wifi.
    Can anyone help, please.

I am also fixed.  I also loaded Onavo, but that was the other day ... this is what I did with the help of online chat with AT&T ...
    I went to:
    Settings
    Wifi
I selected the network I was working on by hitting the blue arrow located on right side
At the detail page of that network I scolled down to the bottom to find HTTP Proxy boxes
I was on Off and changed it to Auto and it worked!
    I was soo jazzed!!
Instructions said if it was already on AUTO, to change it to Manual and make your Port = 80 but I didn't have to do that!
    YIPPIE!!  I'm a new man!!
Go to settings -----> WI-FI  -----> select the network you're using  ------> hit the blue arrow located on the right-side of the network name (ie: show details of that network), this takes you to another page.
--------> at the bottom of the page you'll see "HTTP Proxy" boxes (located below the "renew lease" button) ---------------> change the proxy to AUTO.   Note: if you're already at AUTO, change it to "Manual" and make your Port = 80.

  • How can I have Safari save my opened web pages when I quit so that when I open next time they will be there?

How can I have Safari save my opened web pages when I quit so that when I open next time they will be there? I can do that in Firefox automatically, but can't seem to find how to do it in Safari.  I'm thinking maybe it's just now possible yet?

From your Safari menu bar click History / Reopen All Windows from Last Session.
    Or..
Glims can  re open tabs from a previous session if that helps.

You haven't provided much information, such as what type of router you have?  If you entered the encryption key as the password as opposed to the router name you have selected?  If you have WEP or WPA?  What you've tried that didn't work, other than saying it doesn't work?  So, below is a link to some assistance.  Follow this and see if it helps you.........
