Safari wont save new Bookmarks

No matter what I try, Safari 1.3.1 will not save a new Bookmark. If I drag to the Menu Bar, use the pulldown etc, when I reopen Safari the Book mark is gone.

Safari 2.0 (as part of Tiger) has an Import Bookmarks option in the File menu. Not sure about your 10.3 copy though. You can install Safari Enhancer to enable the Debug menu (which has this Import command hidden therein). Good luck.

  • Ios Safari. How do I save new bookmark in new folder AT THE SAME TIME??

    I'm dumbfounded.
I'm on ios7 using an iphone, on Safari...
and I find a page I want to bookmark.
So I click the "share" button, click "Bookmark" to add it. Fine. Then I get options to choose a folder to store it in. Yay!
But nay! There is no option to save it in a brand NEW folder that doesn't already exist!
Do I REALLY have to cancel, click the bookmarks menu, click edit, click new folder, create a new folder... then go back to the share button, and save the bookmark in the new folder??
I can't be bothered to count the number of steps I have to take to do this but, it seems like TOO MANY!!
Am I being dumb? Is there an easier way?
Am I the only one who finds this infuriatingly inefficient?

To emphasise my point: To do this it appears that I actually have to:
    1. click Cancel (upon realising I'm an idiot for thinking it could be so simple)
    2. click the bookmarks menu,
    3. click Edit,
    4. click New Folder,
    5. type the name of new folder,
    6. click Done.
    7. click Done again.
    8. err... So "done" doesn't mean done apparently, so click Done YET AGAIN
    9. then click the share button
    10. click Bookmark
    11. click Location
    12. choose the folder
    13. click Save

  • A week or so ago I upgraded some apple software and now Safari drops my news bookmarks folder. I can restore it from Time Machine but it will not stay in place. Suggestions?

My iMac, running 10.10.3 seems to have an interesting issue.  Since the last round of apple updates[ including photos 1.0]safari has been dropping my "News" bookmarks folder.  It disappears on restart or when trying to add a bookmark to any folder. I am able to restore it with time machine and it will stay in place until all of a sudden .I notice it is once again gone.  Restore and its back.  Quite a pain in the butt.  Any suggestions on a more permanent fix would be appreciated.

Thanks, wife has iPad on holiday so I could not check it. iCloud occurred to me but I am fairly new to it as prior to iPad we had no need of it.  Thanks again Linc,   I've tried it a couple of times this afternoon and it seems to be sticking around.  Hugh

  • I can neither save new bookmarks nor delete existing ones.

My bookmark system worked until a few days ago, and now will not let me save new pages or delete existing ones. Tried the two methods described on main site, neither worked.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Bookmarks box will not show up and I cannot save new bookmarks.

I cannot save any new bookmarks and the bookmarks box to enter in information about the website you want to save will not pop up. I already did the trouble shooting for extensions and themes with no results. What should I do?

Have a look at this rather long article [[Lost bookmarks]]
The article covers most reasons why bookmarks may be problematic. I would also recommend you make a manual backup of any bookmarks you currently have to guard against further loss and any accidental overwriting. See [[Backing up and restoring bookmarks#w_manual-backup| manual backups ]]

  • Lost bookmarks, force quit and re-boot with no change. still cannot save new bookmarks. is there a solution?

    help

    Hello Badgeptfc
I would try first to reset all settings by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. You will not lose any data by doing this and test it out. If you still cannot save a bookmark, then you will need to restore your iPad and not restore from back up. The instructions for restoring are outlined in the article below.

  • Can't delete or save new bookmarks in safari

I am running OS X 10.8.2 and safari version 6.0.2.
Safari is not allowing me to delete current bookmarks or save any new ones. Manually deleting them from the bookmark page does nothing once I close out and reopen safari. Same goes with saving new ones. I attempted to look at similar threads to find a suggestion and what I found was the advice given to those questions can't be applied to this situation. Mainly because the file path they suggested to go doesn't exist on mine. Any help will much appreciated.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can demote it back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’renot going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Safari no longer saves new Bookmarks (OS X 10.8.3 - Safari 6.03)

I am trying to save bookmarks as I always had done, simply no bookmark gets saved. I reset Safari.

Copy the same line of text to the Clipboard again.
Quit Safari. Disable Safari synchronization in iCloud, if applicable.
    Select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window should open with a file named "Bookmarks.plist" selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the folder open.
Relaunch Safari. It will open with the default set of bookmarks. Delete them all. Select
    File ▹ Import Bookmarks
from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Arrange the bookmark folders as you wish.
Re-enable synchronization if you disabled it. If Safari now performs normally, you can delete the old bookmarks file. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put back the file you moved, replacing the newer one with the same name. Close the Finder window and post again.

  • Safari wont open new tab

I have Safari set to open links "in a new tab in the current window" but for some reason whenever I click a link it opens a new window....what am I doing wrong?
Also, cant I set up a new tab to open with a web page instead of a blank page?

If you want a tab to open directly from a link, you'll need to use 3rd party add-on SAFT. When installed, SAFT is accessible via Safari Preferences. Within SAFT there is a panel for tabs, where you'll find the command "always open browser window in tab". Works like a charm.
By contrast, Safari's new page command applies to opening links from other Apple applications such as Mail or iChat.
Regarding your second question, whenever you open a new tab using the New Tab command, an untitled or blank page appears. This is normal. At the moment there is no way within Safari to open a pre-designated web site. Consider sending Feedback to Apple about incorporating such a feature in a future version of Safari.

  • Imported bookmark folders not showing up in list of places to save new bookmarks

Hello! I imported my bookmarks from my old computer to my new computer. Old computer was running XP, new is running Windows 7. Both have the latest version of Firefox.
On the old machine, when saving a bookmark, it allowed me to select the folder to put it in.
On the new machine, my only choices are the bookmarks toolbar, the bookmarks menu or the unsorted bookmarks. There is a "choose" icon, but when I click it, it give me a new window, but with the same 3 options listed above.
All my folders imported fine, all my bookmarks are there. So, what did I do wrong? Thanks for any help!

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • Can I save new bookmarks using Firefox to my imported IE Favorites List?

I just installed Firefox as my browser and I imported my Favorites from IE. When I open the Bookmarks tab on Firefox I see my imported list at the bottom of the drop down. When I find something new to Bookmark, how do I get it to go into my previously established favorites list that was imported from IE? This list is extensive and itemized. Do I have to resave each and every one of my previous IE favorites to get the old and new on only one list? I sure don't want to have to work between two lists of Favorites / Bookmarks. Dan

You can move the favorites in the "From Internet Explorer" to another bookmarks folder or leave them there.<br />
If you click the star in the location bar to bookmark a link then you can click the yellow star a second time to open the "Edit this bookmark" dialog and move a bookmark to another folder.

  • Sony Album wont save new received images

Since the update of the album app i've had the problem that new received and downloaded images won't show in my album.
All the old pictures are still available.
When using the camera the picture taken is saved in the Album.
Ive cleared the cache but that won't work.
I even resetted my phone to factory settings and that didn't work either.
    Could anybody assist me?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This sounds more like the pictures not being stored in a standard folder on the storage or that there's a file called ".nomedia" in the folder where they are stored or the path to it.
First try clearing data for the app called "Media Storage" under Settings -> Apps -> All and restart the phone and see if it helps. It will not delete any files but make Android rescan all your files.
If you still can't see these pictures, open the folder where they are stored using a file manager that displays hidden files and folders (for example https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.openintents.filemanager) and see if there's any file called ".nomedia" in that folder or the path to it. If so, remove it, clear data for Media Storage and reboot again.
If you download pictures using Chrome they are stored in "Download".
