Safari4: middle-click open new tab sometimes busted

It looks like middle-clicking to open a new tab breaks when target= is specified in the html. I'm not 100% that its the target= that breaks things, but it seems to be consistent. This was not an issue with 4 beta. In these situations, apple-clicking still does open in a new tab.

I am having the same problem. This link, from "tribalwars.com" will not open in a new tab with a middle-click.

command-click still works, as does right-click "open in new tab"

  • IE 11 open new tab opens new window, clicking open new tab opens black page in same tab

Hi I have a problem with IE11 on Windows 8.1 Desktop mode which is driving me crazy.
When i click on the open new tab button it will open in the same tab in the same window and you cant go to any website and the website on where on's address is still in the address bar.
Right click a link and select open new tab most of the time opens new window with long pause.
I have tried everything to fix this even re installing windows, but the problem persists after re install as i think its attaching itself to my Microsoft account.
I have disabled all add-ons run virus and walware scans reset IE to defaults removed and re-installed IE all to no avail!
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • I can'r open a new tab by clicking 'open new tab', I can open a new tab by clicking mouse wheel though

I can no longer open a new tab by simply clicking on the + or 'open new tab' in drop down...I can open pages in a new tab by clicking mouse wheel though. I have not made any settings changes.

  • Middle clicking on a tab sometimes opens a new tab instead of closing it, happens at random and persists until browser restart.

When this happens I'm also actually completely unable to close tabs without using ctrl+f4, the close button on tabs no longer works. I also tend to have a lot of tabs open so the close button doesn't show until the tab is selected, but when I try to select the tab and rightclick it to access the close option in the dropdown menu, the option is not present. I'm given a different menu that looks like the one that appears in View>Toolbars.
I haven't been able to reliably reproduce it, but it happens pretty often and with no apparent trigger other than Firefox being open for some amount of time. The number of tabs open doesn't seem to affect it at all.
    Help would be appreciated!

    Hi,
    Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/tab-mix-plus-incompatible-update-to-fix this].
If problems persist, you can also reset Firefox. To save a listing of the add-ons, important modified preferences/settings etc. to quickly replicate the previous profile, please '''Copy all to clipboard''' (on the left of the reset button), and paste it into Office Excel, or OpenOffice/LibreOffice Calc, or notepad. However, it would be a good idea to check for the existence of the issue immediately after the reset.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • I just updated to Firefox 17.0.1 and now I can't click on a bookmark to open it or open new tab when clicking new tab button.

In FF 17.0.1 I have several bugs to mention. I am only able to open bookmarks by right clicking them and selecting Open In New Tab from the drop down menu. I am unable to open a new tab by clicking on the new tab button or by clicking open new tab from the FF drop down menu at top of browser. Also, none button work in FF, such as Home, Back, Forward, or refresh. This is so aggravating!!

After I posted this, I restarted with add ons disabled and it worked..deleted a cpl of addons for compatibility checking and that fixed it.

  • The open new tab function is not responding

when i click open new tab or use the ctrl t to open a new tab, it does not respond...unless i click on a link to open new tab

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

  • Cannot "open new tab" from exsisting tab

i can open a new browser window but when I click "open new tab" symbol nothing happens

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

[BUG FIXED, see "EDIT 2" at the end of my post]
I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.
    I hope this helps!
EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:
    https://github.com/greasemonkey/greasemonkey/issues/1406
EDIT 2: GREASEMONKEY HAS NOW BEEN UPDATED with a workaround to fix the problem. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/versions/ to install the update manually. It hasn't been reviewed by Mozilla yet, so it won't be an automatic update for another day or two. All credit to "cannonfodder" below for noticing this; please mark his post as helpful!

  • How do I make middle click open a link in a new tab?

Previously, when I clicked a link using the wheel click on my mouse, it opened the link in a new tab. I recently updated firefox, and now if I middle click (wheel click) on a link in Firefox, nothing happens. I just want this feature back. I tried looking in my mouse settings but could not find a relevant setting there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I should add: I have also lost the ability to middle click on a tab to close it.

  • Middle-click on Link not opening new tab

Yesterday Middle-click on Link stopped working to open a link in a new tab (or close a tab if I Middle-click on the tab).
    V. 27.0 (Auto updates turned on)
Window 7, 64 Bit, Home Edition
Was running no add-ons outside extensions for Java, SilverLight, and Adobe and Wacom, and Norton (Disabled as of about 2 months ago)
I HAVE tried starting in FireFox Safe mode with all add ons disabled, problem still persisted.
I uninstalled Firefox, cleared my preferences, and reinstalled, same issue.
I have check the configuration files (I found the command for it in other help topics) and the command line for it is Enabled (I disabled and enabled it again just to check).
Under options, I have it also set to open new windows, as a tab
The ONLY thing that I had done that could have changed anything, was I ran Mal-ware Bytes, and Spybot S&D, before the problem started. However I have run both programs in the past and they have never caused this issue to start after a scan.

My middle click stops working if I show the menu bar. Middle click works as expected if the menu bar is off and just the Firefox button is at the top. Windows 8.1 and Firefox 28.
    Hope this helps

  • How to stop newtab-page flickering/refreshing when opening new tabs by ctrl-clicking thumbnails?

Often when opening new tabs from thumbnails in newtab-page (about:newtab) the whole newtab-page refreshes itself or otherwise flickers. This sometimes causes that some new tabs are not opened when ctrl-clicking multiple thumbnails in a row. Does the newtab-page recalculate after every click what thumbnails it should show and this could cause the flickering effect? (Although I don't see changes in thumbnail order.)

    Hi FFanatic,
Please update to version 32 to see if this is still happening. Go to About Firefox and click the update button.

  • I am unable to open new tabs, in any way I attempt to do so. I have checked the settings and they are fine, so it's not those. The only way I can open a new tab is to right click on a link and instruct it to open in a new tab.

Any way I attempt to open new tabs, be it clicking on the new tab button or using the short-cut Ctrl-t, I am unable to open any new tabs on my browser window.
The only way I have found that I can open a new tab is to right-click on a link and instruct that link to open in a new window.

Try disabling the Ask Toolbar extension.

  • When opening new tab, how to make me able to type in the adress bar directly without clicking on it? -- (about:config reset and add-on doesn't work)

    Hi all,
Need a help relating New Tab on Mozilla.
I want to be able to directly type in the address bar everytime I open a new tab in Mozilla, without clicking anything. To be clearer, it means that everytime I open the new tab, the blinking cursor is already on the address bar.
What's happening right now is everytime I open new tab, the cursor is not placed anywhere--not on the search bar on the page, not on the address bar. I should put the cursor somewhere to do something.
I tried using the about:config reset (1) and installing custom new tab (2), but both do not work.
When I tried the about:config reset the Reset button is not highlighted (I assume it means it's default already), and the Custom New Tab doesn't yield in different result.
What confuse me is 2 days ago my Mozilla works just fine. Everytime I opened a new tab, the blinking cursor was on the address bar and I was able to type directly.
Thank you and appreciate the help!!
    Note:
    (1) about:config reset:
    - Type about:config into the address bar and press Enter.
    - To bypass the warning, press the big button labeled "I'll be careful, I promise!".
    - In the search box, paste browser.newtab.url
    - In the search results, right-click browser.newtab.url and choose Reset.
    (2) Custom Add On reset:
    - Install Custom New Tab. = https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab/
    - Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
    - Next to Custom New Tab, click the Options button.
    - Set whatever page you want to open in each new tab (about:newtab is the default; about:home is the default home page), and make sure "Place focus in URL bar" is not checked.

ok, as a follow up i'd recommend disabling half of the addons & restarting the browser - if the problem continues disable the other half & continue until you've narrowed it down to the culprit...
    </blockquote>
    Hi Philipp,
I read the link you copied on the first post and also tried your recommendation above. None seem to work. Even if I disable all add-ons, the problem still persists.
One other info, this problem seem to appear after I installed several program yesterday. These programs apparently installed other programs that set my homepage and main search engine to a particular website. But I installed all of these programs already. Would that be a cause of the problem?
    Thanks.
