Safe Mode breaks Classic Theme Restorer layout

I use Classic Theme Restorer to restore the customisability that was lost with the new UI introduced in Firefox 29. Recently, I had to use Safe Mode, and upon leaving Safe Mode, the UI broke; the address bar was missing.
My address bar is placed in the menu toolbar next to the menus and navigation buttons, and the navigation toolbar is hidden. Upon enabling Safe Mode, or disabling Classic Theme Restorer, the navigation bar is forced back into the navigation toolbar. After leaving Safe Mode or reenabling Classic Theme Restorer, the navigation toolbar is hidden, but the address bar does not return to the menu toolbar.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

That is really a complicated situation if you use an extension to move a normally fixed item to another toolbar.
The extension can't detect that you have used Safe Mode and that has messed with the toolbar customization.
You can try to reset the browser.uiCustomization.state pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and possibly delete the xulstore.json file in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • How can I get rid of Australis without using Classic Theme Restorer or how can I save vertical space?

    Hi!
I have a widescreen notebook so limited space on the vertical axis. So
    1) I want to get rid of the tab bar when I have only one window open.
    2) I want to get rid of the title bar which includes no necessary information.
    3) I want to move the adress bar to the menu bar.
Before Australis, this was easily done. After I did the update I searched very long for solutions. I found only Classic Theme Restorer. It is good, but it often causes my computer to high power consumption which makes the notebook very hot.
So ho can I get vertical space (see 1 - 3)?
    Best wishes, Dimi

    Hello Dimi,
    # I am not sure if it can be done without the use of extensions, but if you are okay with installing one, [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus Tab Mix Plus] gives you the option to hide the tab bar when you only have 1 tab (in addition to many other options). Under the Tab Mix Plus options after installing, the option to hide it will be under Display > Tab Bar. Another one after a quick search is conveniently titled [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hide-tab-bar-with-one-tab/ Hide Tab Bar with One Tab].
    # The title bar can be removed by clicking [[Image:New Fx Menu]] followed by Customize. At the bottom of the page that opens should say "Title Bar" (will be beside "Show/hide Toolbars), if you click that the Title bar will disappear and be merged with the Menu Bar.
    # I am not sure if the address bar can be moved anymore, but if you still have your Bookmarks Toolbar, that can be placed beside the menu options to give you more space. Go to the same page as in step 2, then click and drag the bookmarks toolbar onto the same toolbar as the menu bar.
    Hope that helps.

  • After installing 'Classic Theme Restorer' firefox button not working

installed 'Classic Theme Restorer' to revert back to usable ui.
this hides/removes the firefox button from the toolbar and puts the old firefox button (orange) in the top left corner.
i also added the new 'firefox button' back to the toolbar, since there are options in this menu not present on the old menu.
however, this toolbar button has no effect, and the menu is not opened.
i have already tried resetting the toolbar customization, as well as removing and re-installing the extension.
issue initially started on version 31, and still exists on version 32.0.1
how can i get both the firefox button, addon bar, and stop/refresh buttons to the left of the address bar?

You can try to reset the <b>browser.uiCustomization.state</b> on the <b>about:config</b> page in case there is a problem with the prefs.

  • Help manually making the theme changes offered by Classic Theme Restorer, which is currently buggy.

I recently had problems with Classic Theme Restorer, the add-on suggested by Mozilla for restoring the classic theme to Firefox.
It was causing problems with the tab bar, so I needed to disable it.
I need some help reproducing the look and function that was produced by the Classic Theme Restorer. Here is an image of how I want Firefox to appear.
    http://puu.sh/eBWDD/3ec4788e3c.jpg
    Items of note:
Tabs On Bottom (I have already set browser.TabsOnTop Boolean = false, but this seems to have no effect?)
    Min Tab Width = 100px
    Max Tab Width = 250px
    Squared Tabs
    Combined Stop/Reload button
Star button in URL bar for bookmarking
Any help at all is very much appreciated!

Thank you the-edmeister, I will point out the problems to the developer.
However, I don't think this adequately solves the problem at hand.
I want to know if there is a way to make the changes effected by this extension, without being forced to depend on the extension, which may or may not be kept up to date.

  • Some favicons missing with Classic Theme Restorer

I use Classic theme restorer and one of the functions I'm using is showing the favicons.
However, I got my computer checked/cleaned last week and added memory, and after that I noticed that maybe a fifth of favicons of the pages I've been using/are in bookmarks don't appear any more. Those pages that are bookmarked and have been used before still have their favicons in bookmarks and they appear in history, but pages that haven't been opened before don't have them and those don't appear in history either.
So, basically, does anyone have ideas how to get all favicons appear again? I've restored defaults, removed/restored Theme Restorer, reloaded Firefox. No effect. Ideas what could work?
    KK

Made the same question there, but the closest answer I got is:
"There might be (caching, connection, etc.) issues with some sites in some cases resulting in icons not being displayed/loaded correctly, but this is not CTRs fault. If Firefox fails to display favicons in tabs, CTR can't duplicate them inside location bar."
    So, anyone got ideas?

  • Tabs still on top after adding Classic Theme Restorer to Firefox 29

Windows 7. Added Classic Theme Restorer to Firefox 29. Set tabsontop to false in about:config and the tabs are still on top. Any suggestions?

It seems that the powers to be have decided that I'm better off with tabs on the top and are going to force me to act in my own best interest as they see it.
Feels more like Apple than Mozilla. On a mobile device this might be a real advantage, but given the number of posts over the many past upgrades, clearly lots of us prefer the tabs right above the content. I have an address bar, bookmark bar and my Norton's toolbar now between the tabs and the content. I'm sure others have other toolbars in there as well. This certainly detracts from the usability for me, and it appears for others.

  • I have used classic theme restorer but my tabs aren't right

I used CTR and asked for rounded tabs, now only the live tab is rounded and other tabs are rounded when I hover but I used to have the non-live tabs rounded too, any suggestions please

There is a Classic Theme Restorer support thread over here.

  • Right click options to Bookmark Page still do not display despite using Stylish Fx32, Classic Theme Restorer and Customize Menus add-ons. What else can I do??

I updated my home PC's Firefox version to 33.1. I was hoping to see some options here that I see on my work PC's Firefox. Instead, I lost a ton of functionality - most importantly, the Context Menu/Rt Click options. I tried all 3 solutions listed here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1027817
But none of them have restored the Rt Click "Bookmark Link" option. Are there any other modifications that I can try to fix this issue? Alternatively, can I rollback to the previous version of Firefox that I was using without any problems? I realize that it may be due partly to my machine (running Vista...) but I would hope that there is at least a rollback option, if not an actual solution to the Rt Click "Bookmark Link" option in 33.1.

  • Scoll Lagging FF7.0.1: fine in safe mode, continues to lag when not even when extensions and plug-ins are disabled (reinstalled, problem continues)

a few days ago, all web pages started to lag when scrolling. Tried safe mode and speed was restored. returned to normal mode and disabled all plug-ins and extension, however, there was no effect upon the scroll lagging. performed a complete Kaspersky virus check with no issues. Other programs on desktop (ex: outlook) are running concurrently at speed without issue. IE is not running with scroll lag.
Oh, BTW, I don't know if it is related, but I was in China last week. and Only noticed this scroll lagging here in the US when I opened it this morning ... so, perhaps there is a site preference issue?

If it boots OK in Safe Mode, the you want to check those possible causes outlined in this article.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 - Safe mode not listed in Advanced boot options

    HI all,
After a bad driver installation, the server got the blue screen issue.
I tried to access the safe mode and make a restore, but unfortunately the safe mode is not listed in the advanced boot options.
The only options available pressing F8 at boot are :
    Repair
    Normal mode
    Am I missing something ?
Is there a way to launch the safe mode from the console (accessible from repair mode) ?
Is there a way to restore from the console ?
Thanks for your help, for now I am really stucked...
    Olivier Tisserand

    Hi again
Problem solved, I document the solution for others :
open a console from repair mode
search the real system drive, instead of the X: default of the console
    inn my case D:
    cd Windows/system32
    SystemHardwareProperties
    Advanced options
    start and recovery
tick the 'show os list' with 30 sec timer
    close and reboot
when the system list appears, press F8 on wanted os
Then complete Advanced Boot Options menu appears, including safe mode
    That saved my customer's server
    Hope that helps...

  • FF won't restart in safe mode...it won't even shut down.

you know that soft clicking noise you can hear in your computer? Mine stopped doing that a little while ago. It's eerily quiet.
Also, I keep getting hung up. If I watch a video on youtube (for example) FF freezes & I have to shut down the plug-in container to get things going again.
I've tried restarting the computer, but it didn't help. My system idle process is showing the number 99 in my task manager's CPU column, & I think that's related to my problems. Sometimes when I open task manager I can see that CPU Usage (at the bottom) is at 100%, but in a second it usually goes back down to 15% or less.
SO I came to the FF support page, where it was suggested that I '''restart my browser in safe mode. But it won't restart. '''It won't even shut down all the way. FF & the plug-in container are both showing as open in Task Manager.
SO when I manually shut them down, & then open FF again & check my plug-ins, none of them have been disabled (as they should be if FF had restarted in safe mode).

By soft clicking noise, what exactly do you mean? If you are hearing a clicking noise in your computer that then stopped, it is possibly your hard drive dying, or a fan in the computer that dies. You shouldn't have "clicking" noises in a PC.
As for system Idle Process, that is just the percentage of the CPU that isn't being used, if that is at 99%, it means that only 1% of your CPU is being used at that moment.
Now, as for starting Firefox in Safe Mode, let's try this. Restart your computer, then while you start Firefox, hold down the Shift Key. You should have a small box open up with a bunch of checkboxes. Don't check any of them right now. Just Continue in Safe Mode. This is Firefox safe mode, all customizations, themes, addons, etc. will be disabled. If you don't get the freezing here, restart Firefox, and disable your add-ons one by one until you find the culprit.
Also, you can try updating your graphics driver to see if this is an issue with Hardware acceleration. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers] has more details.

  • How can I restore addons if I told the computer to permantly disable them in safe mode then apply the changes and restart

I got stuck with the Yahoo tab that opens Yahoo every time you open a new tab . I looked online for a way to get rid of it and in the process told the computer to restart Firefox in safe mode. Here I chose to permanently disable add on s and then I clicked the apply and restart button. Since then I can't download the new version of flash because Firefox sees it as and add on. Any Idea on how I can get this to work with out having the Yahoo tab back?

  • Updated. See 3 new Qs at bottom...After XP system restore back to earlier FF version, FF won't open, it's in safe mode. How can it be opened out of safe mode? Can precious, previous History be retreived?

THIS IS A RE-POST OF THE QUESTIONS previously posted, PREVIOUSLY POSTED, now adding a request that 3 new summary questions--at the bottom--be answered.
NOTE: I specifically need answers to the 3 new, summary Qs now posted at the bottom of the Sequence of Events:
    Sequence of events:
    1) I was using Version 3.6.22 and I needed to
    upgrade to Version 6.0.
    2) Before beginning, I set a restore point in Windows XP so that in case I did not like 6.0, I could go back to the restore point which contained
3.6.22 and I would stick with that version.
    3) I did not uninstall 3.6.22 but loaded 6.0 on top of it, so to speak, thinking that would save my history and other features such as bookmarks. Opening 6.0 I was horrified to see it did not contain my history files!...so I had to go back to 3.6.22.
    4) After returning back to the restore point that contained 3.6.22, on the desktop, clicking on the Firefox icon, it won't open.
    5) I went to desktop, in lower left clicked Start, then clicked Programs, and yes Firefox is there as an installed program, however the tag reads Mozilla Firefox (safe mode)...so it's in safe mode and won't
open. What now?---~~~~~(end of original post).
HERE ARE THE EXACT 3 Qs I need answered:
    1) Can I retreive and save MY PRECIOUS HISTORY from somewhere? Can I force new 6.0 to find and retreive it from 3.6.22) And how would I do that? That's the reason I'm trying to go back to 3.6.22, because it likely still contains my history which does not appear in new install of 6.0?
    2) As it stands, go back to previous state now has Firefox 3.6.22 in safe mode. It won't open after XP went back to previous state containing 3.6.22. File tree says Firefox is installed but is now in safe mode. So Q2 is: Can I open Firefox out of safe mode and if so how?--I'd be done because it likely still contains my history.
And if not, can I get retreive my history from it somehow? Or somehow get 6.0 to rediscover it hidden somewhere (Show All History in new 6.0 install was empty).
    3) Do I have to give up on retreiving my history even though it's got to be somewhere in my computer? I did not uninstall anything.
If my history cannot be retreived, then I have no choice but to proceed in life with 6.0 without my precious History, a huge store of info and loss of data for me, big time!
FIREFOX HELP NEEDS TO TELL PEOPLE HOW TO SAVE THEIR HISTORY WHEN THEY UPGRADE TO NEW VERSION and whether or not to uninstall previous FF version first. Please pass this urgent advice on to Firefox techs. I can't even figure out how to email THEM!!!!
Thank you all out there in cyberspace whereever you may be!
(P.S. Cor el, thanks for your reply...how do I reach you by email link does not work....)

What in particular didn't you like about Firefox 6?
You can undo a lot of changes, either via changing settings or prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page or via extensions.

    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
