Safe Mode Needed to Correct Time Zone!

My L955-S5370 arrived from the factory set to the Pacific time zone. I live in the Eastern time zone.
I was unable to change my computer to the Eastern time zone. Whether I used the Start Screen or the desktop, the time zone would not change. Yes, I am an Administrator. Yes, I know how to change the time zone. Running tzutil from an elevated command prompt did not change the time zone either.
I had to boot into Safe Mode to change the time zone. This indicates to me that something that loads with Windows prevented me from changing the time zone. Since this is a brand new computer, whatever caused the problem was installed by Toshiba. What could that be?

I too wonder what Toshiba loads that prevents this.

Maybe a volunteer will experiment. See KB929135 and KB331796.

  • ICloud calendar not syncing in correct time zone

Basically, I live in Australia & I have a subscription to a with all the Manchester United fixtures on in the UK. on my Mac the time zone changes are all correct, but as soon as I view the entries on my iPhone 5, they appear in UK time. I've already set my time zone to Sydney (AEST) on my iCloud account. Not sur

I had the same issue, it annoyed me for quite a while, and I couldn't find a solution on the web.  I then looked at "Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --> Time Zone Support" and saw that it was stuck on the wrong time zone there (which coincided with the time zone my calendar was in).  I switched off Time Zone Support and switched it back on: that corrected it.  I then returned to my calendar app again, and it was in the correct time zone.  That solved it for me.

  • How can I correct time zone information

Yesterday  Europe/Moscow zone was changet from  GMT+4 to GMT+3
I've managed to adjust ical4j.jar library replacing Moscow.ics by this very simple zone file

    END:STANDARD

After init-config for both davserver and Convergence this jar file is deployed and I see It into
    /opt/glassfish3/glassfish/domains/domain1/applications/davserver/WEB-INF/lib/
    directory.
Moreover I found modified zoneinfo file into
    opt/glassfish3/glassfish/domains/domain1/generated/jsp/davserver/loader_27469283/zoneinfo/Europe/Moscow.ics
I see in the Convegence Options Time Zone Europe Moscow GMT+0300
    So far so good.
Bad news when I export calendar via Convergence calendar interface  I see in  the head of ICS file the following time zone information
    BEGIN:VCALENDAR

The offset +0400 is absolutely wrong!
Since I see in convergence all events shifted by one hour back respect to lightning data.
I found a lot of information about how to add time zone alias, but have no info about correction existing time zone.
    Any comments are welcome.
    Thank you, Monk.
    P.S.
Operating system time zone information is right.
Java time zone is updated too.

Yes I know about time zone information into VEVENT Object.
Can You provide me URL where I can download plugin you are talking about?
Plugin can be for Firefox or Chrome.
Till now I can only use export calendar button of Convergence Calendar interface.
Here you can find two event
th-17 and th-19 created by Lightning
    th-17 - started 17-00
    th-19 - started 19-00
According to the Convergence them start at 16-00 and 18-00 respectively.
By the way .Lightning show them correct but fire alarm one hour earlier.
    15-45
    17-45
Seams that Lightning took wrong time zone information from the server with +4 offset.

  • Ical events not displaying correct time zone

    Hi All,
I have a weird issue and I'm not sure if it's an iCal or an entourage problem. When one of our Entourage2008 (exchange) users sends a meeting invite to a user in a different time zone using ical, the meeting shows in ical as the time the entourage user who created it, aka not adjusting for the time zone. Entourage to outlook calendar or another entourage calendar works fine, and iCal to iCal works fine; just not Entourage to iCal. Also, a calendar event from the iCal user to the Entourage user does adjust correctly for the time zone difference, which is why i'm exactly sure where the problem lies. I did post in the mactopia forums too so please don't yell at me for posting an 'entourage' problem in a mac forum. any help anyone could provide would be appreciated.
    Thank you.
i'm on 10.5.7 with the latest updates for mac os x and the latest office for mac updates, and we are running off a hosted exchange server. we've experienced the same issue whether we have iCalis ("turn on time support") option enabled in iCal or not enabled.

It's annoying as it should not be this complicated. I've implemented a work around, but it's not ideal. I have entourage running but not open, and have sync services set to sync with ical. A new invite comes into mac mail, the user clicks on the ics file (which opens entourage calendar), accepts the meeting, and closes the entourage window. The correct time is in entourage calendar, and then syncs with ical and the meeting has the correct time for that time zone.
If anyone has found a real fix for this problem, please let me know.
Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one Jim.

  • I-Phone not syncing correct time zone in ical, but computer time stays the same

Lately when I put in appointments in my calendar on my Iphone 4S either directly,or in my mac, the time zone drops back 3 hours in just the Iphone only. The correct time is still on my calendar in my mac.  I checked my Iphone settings to make sure that my time zone is correct, which is was.  We live 6 mos on the west coast and 6 mos on the east coast for many years and have not had this problem before. How can I fix this? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Check Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Time Zone Support = "Off" on your iPhoje.

  • ICloud Mail on my Mac won't show correct time zone.

In Settings I have time zone set to central time but mail keeps displaying pacific time. My Mac is displaying central time, so it appears to be an iCloud mail issue. The time zone is correct on my other devices (iPad and iPhone). But on my desktop iMac and my MacBook Pro it does not work.

I am having the same problem. The time displayed on my outgoing mail from my Mac is Pacific time although I am in the Eastern time zone.

  • Need a dual time zone clock app that runs like a screensaver

I have a first generation iPhone and I am wondering if any of the many world time zone clocks available as apps have the ability to run over or replace, until touched, the iPhone screen itself, which contains numerous app logos. Hope that makes sense. Thoughts?

What about adding another to Dashboard?
There are some for $20 but not menu bar:

It's the Voodoo driver that caused this kernel panic, but I would get rid of, or try to see if there's and update for, both. I have no idea what the HDA extensions are for... but they're crashing your system.

I understand the basic gist of time zone support as it is pretty straight forward, but I'm constantly finding myself confused when I use time zone support when I travel.  For instance, I use EDT and sometimes put events in my calendar that I know I'll have while I'm traveling.  If I put an event in my calendar for 2:00 pm because that is when the event is supposed to start, but the event is taking place in California, the event shows up in my calendar at 11:00 am and I get all confused as to when my events are actually supposed to start.
Is the best policy to figure out what the adjusted time is supposed to be and make the adjustment beforehand, or is it best to turn off time zone support?  It gets really confusing when trying to add events to your calendar when the events take place in different time zones.
Any thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated

Simple answer is that the events should not be moving if the setting has stuck, so it's probably a preference file that has been corrupted.
Do you see the time zone at the top right of the iCal window?
If it's there even though you have unchecked the option in preferences, it might be worth going into preferences and rechecking, quitting preferences, going back in and unchecking.
If that fails to get rid of the zone in the window (or it wasn't there in the first place), you probably need to trash the preferences file for iCal:
    Quit iCal.
Look for this file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist [That's in the Preferences folder of the Library folder of your home folder in case you don't understand the notation.] Drag it to the desktop - or somewhere convenient (so that you know where it is and can put it back if iCal gets screwed-up).
    Restart iCal.
This should start iCal in the default mode - which is with Time Zone support off. You will notice that the position and size of windows, default view (month, week, day), etc have also been reset - so you will need to arrange them to your liking and check that the preferences that you need are set correctly.
You should now be able to change time zone without everything moving. If it works, you can trash the file you moved to the desktop.
If this doesn't fix your problem, you can at least get back to where you started by:
    Quitting iCal.
Dragging the original .plist back over the new one.
    Restarting iCal.
    * Make sure you back-up your data before doing anything. However, I just tried this with my own iCal and it all worked 'as advertised' *

  • Apex 4.1 bug? Application language derived from Session changes time zone

I have created an application in Apex 4.1 and in the "Initialization PL/SQL Code" for the session (what used to be called the VPD section) I have the following code:
    begin
      execute immediate 'alter session set time_zone = ''+01:00''';
end; This works as expected, UNLESS the "Application Language Derived From" (under "Edit Globalization Attributes") is set to "Session", in which case the session's time zone is also affected (and not just the language, as one would expect).
This can be seen in the following simple example, which runs the above code to set the time zone, and has the language derived from "Session":
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=38595
    This shows
sessiontimezone = -05:00Even though the session's time_zone has been explicitly set to +01:00 with the ALTER SESSION statement.
Experimentation with the URL shows that if a p_lang parameter is passed, with a valid language identifier, for example:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=38595&p_lang=de
then the time zone is affected (showing -05:00 instead of +01:00).
However, if an INVALID time zone identifier is passed:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=38595&p_lang=xx
then the session time zone is CORRECT according to the ALTER SESSION command:
sessiontimezone = +01:00If I change the "Application Language Derived From" to something else than "Session" (for example, "Browser" or "Item Preference"), then the timezone is also correct (ie follows the ALTER SESSION command).
Running the page in debug mode confirms that the time zone is being set after my VPD/initialization code has been run:
    0.01585     0.00146     ...Application session: 1671806996734123, user=nobody     4

    0.02534     0.00066     ...NLS: Set g_nls_timestamp_tz_format="DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR"     4
    0.02600     0.00050     ...Setting session time_zone to -05:00     4
    0.02650     0.00065     Setting NLS_DATE_FORMAT to application date format: dd.mm.yyyy     4
    0.02715     0.00056     ...NLS: Set g_nls_date_format="dd.mm.yyyy"     4
    0.02771     0.00055     ...NLS: Set g_nls_timestamp_format="DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM"     4
    0.02827     0.00057     ...NLS: Set g_nls_timestamp_tz_format="DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR"     4
    0.02884     0.00230     NLS: Language=en     4
Conclusion: It seems to me that when the LANGUAGE is set to be derived from the "Session", this also, as a side effect, alters the session TIME ZONE, which must be a bug... ?

    Hi Arie,
When you are setting the language to derived from session you actually declare that you are working in a dynamic environment – per session – and not in a static one. Using the Initialization PL/SQL Code is very static as the same code is executed for every database session.I was using a fixed time zone value in the ALTER SESSION to demonstrate the bug/problem... in real life, the actual time zone is derived dynamically based on a user profile stored in the database.
APEX 4.0 introduced the Automatic Time Zone under the Globalization tab. By default it’s set to No but setting it to Yes will allow you to use your local time zone (as derived from your browser) with whatever language derived setting you choose, including per session with the *&p_lang* parameter. The key point is that LANGUAGE has nothing to do with TIME ZONEs, and vice versa. People speak English (and Spanish, and French, and Chinese for that matter) all over the world. You cannot determine a user's time zone based on the chosen language.
You're telling me to enable "Automatic Time Zone" to work around an unwanted side effect from changing the language setting. Sorry, but that just sounds like bad advice to me.
If you want to use session derived language, however the local time zone settings are not good for you, you can still change them with a Before Header and After Submit PL/SQL processes and an appropriate alter session statement, on a per page base. The APEX engine will not ignore a page based session setting. Why should I have to do this for every page when the "VPD" Section (now called "Initialization PL/SQL Code") is made for this purpose?
If you look at the help text in the Apex builder for that section, it actually says that:
The code entered here need not pertain to VPD/FGAC and may not be related to security at all.
Any code that needs to be executed at the earliest point in a page request can be placed here.
For example, the following code sets the database session time zone for every page request:
    BEGIN
       EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'alter session set time_zone = ''Australia/Sydney'' ';
END;So I hope the demonstrated behavior is not intentional, but a bug, and I'm hoping Joel sees it the same way.

  • My iPhone 5C does not keep the correct time.

The Time randomly changes by hours and minutes.  This morning it was off by 3 hours plus some minutes.  I am in the correct time zone and the Date & Time is set to Automatic; Time Zone is New York.  I have another iPhone 5c in my house hold and it does NOT experience the same issue.  Both iPhones are using the same Apple ID.  I have not reset the phone yet because I will lose all previous text messages etc.  I m also not able to connect to yahoo mail when the time is off and I am forced to send Text messages as opposed to iMessage, which has caused problems with my contacts NOT being able to text me.  This is a huge inconvenience.  I am on AT&T.  I went to their Corporate store today and they told me they were unable to assist me, that I need to take my phone to an Apple Store.  This is not acceptable.  The nearest iPhone store is more than 30 minutes from my work AND home.  I work late hours and it is very difficult to have to deal with this type of an issue.  Please assist.

Doing a reset, does not cause you to lose data, however a restore as new will.
a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
If that doesn't work restore from your backup, if that doesn't work restore as new.  If that doesn't work, then schedule an appointment with the Genius bar and take trip to the Apple store.

  • Multi Time Zone No Longer Available

    I use Outlook 2010 on a Windows 7 machine.
Since upgrading to the new iCloud panel, Microsoft outlook has lost the multi time zone support. Also, appointments seem to be recorded in incorrect time zones.
I do a lot of travel for work, and my outlook is set in EST. I schedule all of my flights to start in the time some where I depart, and end in the time zone where I arrive.  For example, Depart 10AM PST, Arrive 5PM EST.  The iCloud calendar let me enter this, and it worked and synced via iCloud with my phone.  Not it only lets me have a start time zone.
Also, when I used to accept an appointment on my phone, it would keep the correct time zone.  It no longer does.  For example, if someone send me a 10AM PST meeting, I would accept it on my phone, and it would show up in outlook at 1PM EST.  Now when someone sends me a 10AM PST meeting, and I accept it while in PST, it shows up in Outlook at 10AM EST.
This is causing a lot of difficulty with my job and if I can’t find a solution, I may need to go back to syncing to outlook directly and not using the cloud.
Does anyone know why this functionality went away and how to work around it?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the response Pondini.  Unfortunately, it didn't work...the only thing I didn't try was this and that's because I'm using Lion and the instructions say Leopard only:
The backups may be corrupted.  Try repairing them, per item C5.
How do I repair in Lion?  Thanks!

  • IMac Early 2008 - Spinning Wheel constantly also in Safe Mode

    Hello Apple Support community!
Recently I've been having much trouble with my iMac Early 2008. In the last 5 years I have never had an issue with it until about 4 days ago and I have no idea how this problem came about.
I have 10.8.5 installed and know a bit about OS X.
Problem Description:  On a recent Dropbox sync where there appeared to be a folder conflict the computer hung and was unresponsive. I had to hard shut down by using the power button. Every successive boot (and attempt for DB to sync) ended in a hang and the spinning wheel. I booted into Safemode, disabled Dropbox as a startup item, rebooted and everything worked for a few hours. Because I needed files from DB i decided to download the update and install. This added DB to the startup items again and history repeated itself. Spinning wheel on startup and a hard shut down again. This time safe mode couldn't save me. I was also getting the spinning wheel there too. I left it for a few days until today when I finally hads the time to troubleshoot.
From my iPad I unlinked the iMac from dropbox and booted it from the install disk to perform a hardward test. The standard test showed no errors so I rebooted. I immediately wanted to do a time machine backup and after 6GB were transferred, Time Machine stalled.  The spinning wheel was back and I had to hard reset. So I started in safe mode and waited for Time Machine to do its thing. It began cleaning up and then managed only about 140MB before hanging.
Next I started the iMac in Firewire target disk mode and tried to transfer the files to my 15" Powerbook (OS 10.4.11) After only 700MB the Firewire logo on the iMac screen stopped moving and the file transfer stalled. I did a hard shut down again.
This time I ran OS 10.5.4 from the install disk and opened disk utility > verify disk to check for errors. None were found so I rebooted into SAFE MODE and wanted to run terminal to clear dyld cache.  Since Finder is unusually sluggish and it seems any mouse-clicking causes the spinning wheel, I waited a bit and then hit command-space to bring up Spotlight into order to launch Terminal. There the iMac hung yet again, but quite strange is that the spotlight search window came up with the description about indexing taking a long time etc etc. I only know that the first time an HD has to be indexed and since this computer is quite old I find that curious.
A.t.m. I am running the extended hardware test from install disk and looking for suggestions about how I can reliably get my data off the HD in order to do a clean install, if I have to. Alternative suggestions to avoid that would be welcome, but I understand that this may be the only solution, if not also having to buy and install a new HD first.
thanks for your help in advance.
    best regards,
    Dan

AHT extended version reports the following error
    4HDD/11/40000000:SATA(0,0)
Google results show only people with SSD drives reporting that. Cause could be a loose cable??
two weeks ago I moved and had to pack the iMac in the original box. However I transported this myself and not the movers.
