SAFE thrid party repairs

Some of you may have read my other thread about how my 5g 30gig iPod's headphone jack has been shorted out. I found out that apple charges way to much to fix that. I have been looking at third party repairs that have fairly decent prices, but how do i know they aren't going to just sell my iPod or something? If anyone has gotten their iPod repaired successfully by a third party, please share.

Third Party Repair vs Apple Store Visit (weird situation/question)

I have a 24" intel iMac that recently went kaput. I turned it on last night and it could no longer find any startup volume. It was as if my hard drive just vanished. I tried rebooting, I tried holding the option key and booting, I tried holding c and booting, etc. to no avail. There was just no longer a hard drive. I booted from the install cd and ran disk utility, but there was no volume to repair or reformat/reinstall on, so I finally called Apple. We went through the whole troubleshooting procedure and the rep came to the conclusion that I would have to bring my iMac to the nearest Apple Store or dealer to have the hard drive replaced...
Now, here's where my situation gets a little unique and where my actual question comes in. I live close by to an Apple Store, but I am currently receiving high-dose chemotherapy and it is HIGHLY inadvisable for me to drive, let alone expose myself to mall germs for the next few weeks. I told the Apple rep about my situation and asked about having someone come to my house to repair the computer. He obliged by hooking me up with an approved third-party dealer. They will apparently call me to set up an appointment, come to my home and replace my hard drive. Now, this is great, but I had a question about this which the Apple rep could not answer and I have yet to receive a call from the third-party repair company. My question for the rep was whether or not this third-party repair company would do anything at all to attempt to retrieve the data on the defective drive. The Apple Rep said he did not know what, if anything, they would do to help me retrieve the data currently in limbo. That pretty much stinks because all of my personal info is on there, including tax returns, e-mails, photos and music. I have some backups, but definitely not everything. This is long, sorry....wow...anyway, here is my question for this board:
Would I be better off waiting and just going through the Apple Store for this process? I have AppleCare and my PowerBook, so time is not really an issue; but would they go above and beyond in the effort to retrieve my data? I have no idea what this third party is going to do, but I'll find out eventually; however, if I'm armed with the knowledge that the Apple Store will do everything they can to get my data and this third party ends up sounding wishy washy about it (or worse - they flat out say they won't do anything beyond the repair), I'll just tell them to forget it and wait until I can travel and take my iMac into the Apple Store. This information is vital because the one thing the Apple rep made crystal clear is that there is no way I will be allowed to keep the old drive, which would allow me to attempt data retrieval at my leisure.
Also, this is an additional minor question: the Apple Rep said that the old drives are destroyed when received by Apple, but can anyone here confirm this? Is it 100% assured that these drives are not just given a cursory wipe and then refurbished (if it turns out they can be fixed that is)?

It has been my understanding from reports here by other users with the experience, that the Apple stores generally charge a fee (I think $75) for transferring hard drive data - it's not part of the service that they're performing. Don't assume that before you leave without your Mac, anyone will even inquire whether or not you still have data on a drive. There have been reports from some users who simply made the assumption that data transfer would be taken care of, only to find it all gone. As for an Apple authorized dealer, I'm not sure why the situation would be any different at all. Best to use caution.

Download all the files into Execel, hope after tht u can change it to CSV.... To download HR MASTER DATA use Ad-Hoc qqry. Else use SE11, SE12 or SE16 to download IT wise. PA starts with PA0000 ets OM starts with HRP1000. Hope through this u can download and send to 3rd party system....
In std we are having an option for 3rd part PY transfer. Check this if help

Standard SAP process for third party repair or subcontracting repair

Please let me know if there is any standard SAP process for third party repair or subcontracting repair.
Given below is the process in brief.
1. Receive the repairable product in the warehouse from customer
2. Do the inspection in warehouse
3. Send the repairable product to the subcontractor to do the repair
4. Receive the repaired product from the subcontractor
5. Send the repaired part to the customer.
6. Bill the customer
Please share your inputs if you have any.

Hi there is no SAP standard process for this. I can give you work around for that.
1.. Receive the repairable product in the warehouse from customer - Normal customer returns or customise a movement type to receive it with our without value as per requirement
2. Do the inspection in warehouse - Normal inspection
3. Create a service PO with the vendor.
4. Send the repairable product to the subcontractor to do the repair - Send using 541 movement type to vendor or use the copy of 541 movement type to send to vendor.(you can refer PO also system does not validate)
5. Receive the repaired product from the subcontractor - Reversal of 541
6. Send the repaired part to the customer.
7. Bill the customer

Create the return sales order and do the return delivery material will come in to sales returns mvt.651
Transfer from sales RT to unrestricted 453
Create Subcontracting PO on repair vendor with recursive BOM (Same material goes out and comes in)
Sen to subcontractor 541 , recv from Vendor after reapair 101 , 543 , pay to repair vendor against PO
Create SO with ref to return SO with repair charges and deliver

Thrid party application wont delete in trash- comes back

i have downloaded a thrid party applciation named 4easy dvd ripper; the free version . I tried to get rid of it by droping in into the trash but not all files deleted.. I had to search for every single file that went with it ... The problem is that the actul application that opens up the download box wont erase from my mac. It comes back evry time i place it in the trash.. the trash will take the .dmg application but once i try to delete form the trash it pop back to Doenloads. How can i get rid of thing .. please help

I think i found a solution ... I had to use the secure empty trash option under finder to completely erase it off otherwise if you try to empty the trash using the regular "empty trash" option the item would disappear from trash and would come back to the mac download folder agian ! ... Thanks for the advice though.

I can't find option to change DVD drive in iDVD6 preferences.
Someone please tell me how to burn DVD within iDVD6 using thrid party burner. It should be simple . . .

Intel iMac won't boot from disc or in safe mode - cannot repair disk

I have an early Intel iMac 20" (2GHz core duo) that generally works fine. I recently ran Onyx and it reported a startup disk error, suggesting I insert the install disk, hold 'c', and use disk utility to repair the disk.
NOTE: I have performed this operation successfully in the past and know how to do it.
On this occasion, the iMac simply booted up to the normal desktop each time after multiple attempts at booting from both the original OSX 10.4.4 install disc and the OSX 10.5.1 install disc (current os is 10.5.8).
I then attempted to start holding 'shift' to start in safe mode but again, repeated attempts all landed me on my normal desktop.
I then attempted to hold 'option' to be given the choice of startup disc but again was ignored and went straight to my normal desktop after multiple attempts.
Note that my iMac appears to be running fine otherwise. I was just trying to perform some routine maintenance and have run across this problem.
Any ideas? This mac will be 5 years old soon and I would like to keep it running for a while longer.

You'll want to use the Leopard Install DVD to Repair your Startup Volume and may want to try a USB keyboard if your using a wireless.
Another option is to insert the DVD and go to: System Preferences > Startup Disk > select the Install DVD > then Restart.

File I/O error - is it safe to do repair disc?

Hi everybody, I have a 4TB WD external disc full with my movie footage. I wanted to copy one file to other disc, but got File I/O error. I can play the movie with no problems, I can move it to another directory on the same disc, but cannot move it to another disc.
I was thinking about trying disc repair, but would like to ask you first: doing disc repair safe? I mean I really don't want to last all the footage on the disc...
Or would you have any other suggestions? Thanks

the progress stops about 60 percent when trying to copy this one.
How big is the movie file?
Is the HD's format on the destination drive the same as the original?
I ask because drives formatted in the FAT32 format have a single file size limitation of 4 GB.
A general question. How much available (free) space does your Mac have?

Better to Repair LCD at Toshiba or 3rd Party Repair Center?

I have a toshiba satellite u3050-s5097. When I turn it on, the screen is very dim, pretty much black unless if I shine a light at it and I can barely see my desktop. Well I had it inspected by a 3rd party laptop repair center and they said the light is out and the LCD is not working so they have to replace entire LCD... for parts and labor it will total $633.53 so I am looking to see if it will cost less to have my LCD fixed by Toshiba (I'm not sure what the process and cost for them to maybe... order from Toshiba, s/h and etc) or would this be the average cost for this type of repair?
Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

I just called toshiba repair center and they will fix and replace the lcd panel for a flat rate of $425...

I'm on a budget like many of us, that is why I'm trying to save my laptop...
But in case anybody who would like to suggest some afforadable laptop that is better than my satellite U305-s5097, I would greatly appreciate it! I'm trying to learn more about computer specs and find out which ones are better for the work I do as well... I'm looking for a laptop that will work well around multi media work... film editing, music, gaming... or if you have a good link to help me learn more about computers/laptops so I could better understand what to look for in performance of the perfect laptop for me, that would be great as well!

HELP! Safe mode or repair?

I created a new folder within Project Manager. I named it
(administration) and clicked off of it and RH7 froze. It will now
display the "hourglass" I killed the project through task manager
and reopened it. It opens fine, but when I click on anything I get
the hourglass again. I rebooted the computer and it still does it.
I went into Windows Explorer and removed the offending folder -
still won't work.
Is there a "safe mode", repair or rollback that can be done
to correct this? I am at a loss at what to do.

What you seem to be describing is how things might behave and
fall apart if your project were stored on a network drive. Is it?
If so, move that puppy to your local C drive and watch the
frustrations melt away like an ice cube in the Sahara.

Thrid party java API for exporting rpt to PDF

Hi all,
We have come accross a limitation of RAS in exporting a large report with subreports and images to PDF. This can take up to 20 minutes. We have looked at optimizing the templates and have opened multiple tickets with SAP but for various reasons have not been able to get this corrected.
I understand there is a 3rd party that has developed a Java library to export to PDF without using RAS. Is anyone familiar with this?

I beleive the cystal reports cache/page server combo can also be used to export to PDFwithout touching the RAS services. We use the below class to do our exporting and it seems to work well, but our reports are relativly small.

Video Output To Thrid Party Accessory

So for some reason firmware 1.0.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.3, and 1.1.0 won't output video to my car's headunit but 1.0.2 will, anybody have any ideas why this is?

Like I said, it was an error, a bug, a malfunction. I really doubt they'll put out a firmware update that CAUSES those on PURPOSE.
All TV-Out Third Party accessories are currently under redesign. Belkin, Bose, and others are all working on a new line of TV-Out capable devices, but they actually DO need to make new ones that have the Video Authorization Chips in them that allow video to output through the docking port.
