Is it safe to charge my iPhone 4 from a generator (1000w) on an extension cord. My USB adapter is plugged into a surge protector from the generator.

If it's a third-party accessory, nobody here can be 100% certain if it will work safely.
The only way to find out is to try it yourself, but do so at your own risk.

Hey I have done this in person it works but only if you have a mophine iPhone battery case then you can use the htc charger on the case's mini USB port and it actually charges the case and the iPhone! The case only works for 4&4s devices.
The above is a method I currently use, any other working methods would be nice to know as I also have this question.

I have a 2005 VW that lets me play an iPod through the car stereo. That's good. However the connection is via a 30-pin connector with 12 V (Firewire I think) charging circuit. So an iPhone or newer iPod won't charge. I'd like to use it with an iPhone 5 which means I need an adapter for a Lightning connector. Does anybody know of a way to make this work? I'd like to be able to both play music from the phone and charge the phone.

If the VW wiring is the old firewire implementation( and from that date it probably is ) then you will need
a 30 to 30 pin adapter to change the wiring for newer Apple devices .I used Scosche brand adapter successfully ( a premium brand )
Then to use a lightning device the Apple 30 pin to lightning adapter .( Use Apple for best chance of success, cheap knockoffs I would not recommend )

ps I doubt there is 12 v in the ols 30 pin connector ,it will be 5v but pins do not match the later iOS devives

Get a surge protector for everyday use.
Unplug the charger during thunderstorms. Surge protectors do not protect against the damage that a lightning strike causes - they just protect against electrical surges.

I just bought a new surge protector that has two USB ports built in. I know it is safe to charge an iPhone using the USB ports on a computer, and it is safe to charge an iPhone using the supplied power adapter. However, I have heard that the supplied power adapter (the brick) that comes with the phone automatically stops charging the iPhone when it reaches 100%. I normally leave my iPhone charging overnight. So my question is, would it be safe to charge my iPhone overnight via the built in USB port on my new surge protector? Yes, it's safe. The phone is actually what stops the charging.
