Safe to connect it without iTunes?

This is actually more of a question before I risk trying something than a help post after something happens.
I am currently relegated to using a computer that I don't have permission to install things on, so I can't install iTunes, and I forgot to bring my iPod software CD with me, so I can't install that anyway. My iPod is already formatted for Windows, however.
Is it possible to plug my iPod up to my XP computer without installing iTunes or the iPod software? I don't want to access the music, I just want to use it as an external hard-drive.
I vaguely remember hearing somewhere a long time ago that doing this will reformat my iPod or something, so I just wanted to confirm whether that's true or false.
I have iPod Software version 1.2.1 (or whatever was current for Windows last August) if that matters.

Hi,
Yes, ASA is non-intrusive.
If you connected to a DMZ, your normal traffic will not be affected. The only traffic affected will be the one that is routed towards the IP of the ASA.
For ASA configuration you can use the below guides:

Please rate if this helped.

  • If I activated my iphone 4 using my ex boyfriends itunes and apple ID, and since changed my apple ID, how do I connect to my itunes on my laptop without losing all of my data? it wont connect to the new library!

    Back in October my boyfriend and I had gotten iphone 4's together. I was on his plan so I just activated my phone on his itunes and used his appleID. Since then we had broken up and I had gotten a new apple ID and everything worked fine. Until now I have had no need to use Itunes, but I just downloaded it on my moms laptop and tried to connect to it and it tells me I can only be connected to one library and if i want i cant disconnect from the old one and start with this one, but it will delete all my data and pics and videos......and im not happy at all. The whole icloud thing less than pleases me so that is not an option. Is there any way around this????? I will NOT have my phone earased and I cannot continue to use his laptop for itunes. Pretty dumb mac, if ya ask me.

    You can export ONLY Camera Roll photos and videos.

    All my apps were downloaded from my new apple ID. Not his.
    Sign in to iTunes Store (on desktop itunes) with your ID. Plug your iphone to itunes, right click on it and choose transfer purchases.Right click again and choose backup. Then you can sync with iTunes.

    Your conversations will not deleted if you sync with your iTunes.
    What is the problem with iCloud? iCloud has nothing to do with iTunes syncing.

  • Is possible to transfer photos from a macbook pro to an iphone without itunes or an internet connection?

    Is possible to transfer photos from a macbook pro to an iphone 5 without itunes or an internet connection? I'm a pro photographer and I need to transfer photos from my camera, edit them, copy photos to my iphone and send via 4G network to an editor. I will be in a location without internet access and my old computer itunes wont sync with my new iphone 5. I can't upgrade the computer right now because I need some of the old software.  Thanks.

    Some decent suggestions for apps to do this in this thread:

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
  • I've jail break Iphone 3GS. i tried to restore setting (erasing all data and media) without connecting to computer/itunes. When it starts it freezes by showing apple logo only. what is the solution.
    i've jail break Iphone 3GS. i tried to restore setting (erasing all data and media) without connecting to computer/itunes. When it starts it freezes by showing apple logo only. what is the solution. please help me out. Here i don't have iphone service center too.
    Although not illegal, Apple discourages a user from modifying the iPhone OS in any manner, including "jailbreaking".  Apple feels so strongly about this that discussing methods to assist a user trying to either jailbreak or "unjailbreak" an iPhone are prohibited.
    I'm a new iPad owner. When I've rented a movie, I can't work out how to play it back without a wifi connection. I get a message which says you cannot connect to the iTunes store without an Internet connection. This happens whether I've rented or purchased a film. We're going on a flight soon and would ideally like to watch one on the plane. Can someone please provide some step by step instructions. Thanks.
    Rented or purchased video are watched through the videos app after you have downloaded them, iTunes on iOS devices is for buying media only.
  • Can I connect iPod touch 4 to computer without iTunes or software?
    I need to back up a couple videos that are nearly 6 mins and over 6 mins. My own comp needs to be fixed, in the meantime I've tried looking into an online storage solution, but none will let me upload the videos. I was wondering if I could connect my iPod touch 4g to any computer, like I would a digital camera or my Kindle, and be able to access the camera roll for backup purposes, without iTunes or any special software being installed. If not, any suggestions on a website that will allow me to upload the videos (not You Tube) from mobile safari?
    Thanks for the link, it enabled me to view the camera roll and copy over some things.
    But now I have another problem, the computer I was using froze up and the program was ended. Then the computer was detecting the iPod but said there was no pictures??!!
    But on my iPod itself, I have the camera roll opened and am able to play the videos and view pics. I'm now afraid to close the photos app because my vids and pics will be gone! I don't know what to do and am feeling sick to my stomach because the vids that I really wanted were not copied over yet, as that's when the computer froze.
    Do you know if that means they're gone from my iPod with no way to get them (as I haven't been able to do a proper backup since my laptop needs fixed)??
  • I have 2nd gen iPod nano with songs from iTunes but also burnt from CDs. I now have a new laptop currently without iTunes or any music on. Is there anyway for me to connect the iPod to iTunes on the laptop and not loose all of the songs on it?
    Pretty much as it says above. I don't want to loose all my old songs that weren't downloaded and am wondering if there's anyway that I can make sure there safe to connect it to a new laptop with no music on at present.
    Any help or advice would be great :-)
    Thanks
    Thanks for trying, no it did not help. The article describes getting song from apple devices to PC, not the other way around. I will try ringing tech support tomorrow.
    Thanks anyway.
  • My apple TV  can't download a movie without stopping several timese aftervindid the latest software update. Plus, I got a message that it could not connect to the iTunes server for a full day. Please don't tell me I spent all this money for nothing!
    After a day of my apple tv not being able to connect to the iTunes server, I am now able to connect but can't even download a movie. Please don't tell me all the money I spent on this system as well as content was a waste. What the heck is going on apple?!? You guys used to be the best!
    Thanks for running that test on the brand new library, jfinch420. I can add that Home Sharing seems to be otherwise working. Yesterday, as a test I shut off Home Sharing and rebooted the AppleTV and my iPhone Remote app stopped working. I reenabled Home Sharing and the app began working again. The Remote App requires Home Sharing to work. This would seem to indicate that Home Sharing on my AppleTV seems to be working.  So the problem for me is very specifically that all network services work on my AppleTV except the ability to access my iTunes library.
    I'm trying to think of what variables changed. iTunes was updated to v12.0.1.26 on October 16th, and there was an AppleTV update on November 17th, but my 2nd gen AppleTV is still running 6.2.1. There is no later OS for it. I was using my AppleTV to stream media from my iTunes library on the 26th. For the life of me I cannot identify what changed while I was away over the holiday. By November 28th, my AppleTV could no longer connect to my iTunes library.
    In addition, my AppleTV frequently crashes and reboots when accessing preferences from time to time. It's likely related. In fact, last week I changed my library name to see if the AppleTV would notice. I did it again a moment ago and my AppleTV crashed every time I selected "Computers". I rebooted iTunes and the AppleTV and that fixed the crashing problem. I don't know what it means, but I'm throwing it out there for what it's worth.
    I will check the following things next:
    1) Connect iTunes & AppleTV via ethernet to rule out WiFi router issues.
    2) Use a different iCloud account to enable Home Sharing.
    3) Wait for the weekend when my friend can use his iCloud info to test home sharing between his laptop and my AppleTV.
    4) Call Apple. Maybe there is a component on the AppleTV motherboard that has gone bad causing the problems.
    BTW, I have an enormous library, too, but your test ruled out library size as an issue.
  • I'm having some strange (& Inconsistent) errors when I try to connect to the iTunes store..
    Hello there, so I was enjoying listening to music and using my various apps when suddenly I could no longer connect to the iTunes store. I went to update my apps and I was told itunes could not connect to the store 'Error 310'. I went to go online and post a question only to find my account had been suspended until I changed the password. I did so and no one managed to reply to my problem. Anyway, later that day suddenly it did connect, however when I tried to download updates I was given 'error 8003'.
    So, I did as Apple support instructed, and deleted my downloads folder, and stopped my firewall, and stopped all other programmes so my computer was running on bare bones, even my speakers were had no software. However this made no difference, and I returned later that day to find that, instead of error 8003, I was stuck with error 310 again. I am a little confused...
    Finally, I have checked and doubled checked and cannot find firewall or programme conflicts, and other wifi devices in my house seem to access the store succesfully.
    I would like to update itunes but, is it possible to update it from the website without the total reinstall? Will all my music be safe? It could just be my current version has decided not to play ball anymore.
    I'll be checking back here regularly, but thank you in advance. Also, to prewarn you, myself and computers do not always get on very well... I'm reasonably good at using them to be fair but since my first ICT lesson it's been known that computers don't seem to behave for me. So if you give me instructions please feel free to treat me like an idiot and spell them out.
    Sorry I gave this a 'this helped me' but after a long struggle I found some ticked box somewhere from some unauthorised chrome extension blaaa....... the link you gave was great, not only did it confirm all the bad things google is supposed to be up to it provided a better browser. Cheers man.
    Anyone who find this; I disabled all extension in chrome. I then searched the word proxy in the settings section. A button came up, "change proxy settings" I clicked on it. Earlier it was greyed out as an extension was interefering.. It brought up a box with my own settings from my computer. Then I clicked LAN settings, then unchecked the 'Use a proxy server' button.
    P.S. If you're using chrome, bail, and dowload Komodo Dragon. It's virtually identical, but you're not tracked, and you can use chrome extensions, and you can quickily transfer your chrome preferences into it.
  • Cannot connect to the iTunes store. Get 'Error 11222'. Claims it is being blocked by Windows Firewall when it is allowed through.
    When an external application tries to connect to it through iTunes I get 'Error: 11222'. When I try to connect through the iTunes app it just continuously loads but nothing appears. Diagnostics says that Windows Firewall (Which is being managed by McAfee) is blocking it, even though it is allowed through both firewalls I have. Even when I turn WF off iTunes claims it is being blocked by it. I have done almost everything Apple's support pages have suggested but nothing has worked. I'm using it on an Acer Aspire laptop, and the main PC can use iTunes without trouble so it isn't the ISP. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes twice. Here is a full diagnostics:
  • Transfering without itunes
    hey,
    my boyfriend is travelling through australia, with his ipod of course and i would like to send him some music because he doesnt have the time to download new music in an internet cafe. my question is, if he has the music as normal files on a random computer, for example via an email i send him or on a usb stick, is there any way he can put those files on his ipod without itunes? he forgot his cd with itunes on it and the computers in the internet cafes dont have itunes on them. if he downloads itunes he will lose all of his current music wont he? thanks you!
    "is there any way he can put those files on his ipod without itunes?"
    No I'm afraid not, for the music files to play on the iPod they need to be added using iTunes (or another iPod manager such as AnaPod) they won't work otherwise.
    "if he downloads itunes he will lose all of his current music wont he?"
    If his iPod is set to automatically update, then yes, he does risk losing what is on his iPod if he connects to a blank iTunes. If the iPod is set to update manually then it is safe. See this article: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
    You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
