Safely getting rid of unused fonts

I just replaced my hard drive and with that came the latest OSX version and I noticed in fontbook that out of the 182 fonts installed in the standard OSX install 109 are not english fonts -- I'm never going to use these non- english fonts but having them installed means endless scrolling to find the few fonts I will use.
How can I safely get rid of these unusable fonts?

  • How do I safely get rid of a partition?

    hi
i recently bought a powrmac g4 off ebay with a 933 Mhz processor, 1.25 GB RAM and a 120 gig HD that was partitioned into 2 drives (by, i assume, the previous owner) with one of them running the OS. I just installed a new shiney Maxtor 200 gig HD and wanted to get rid of the partition in the 1st HD but still boot from it. The problem is that the OS already on the drive is newer than the one that I have the disk for, so if I erase it (the drive) then re-install the OS with the disk I have, it will be out of date. The other problem is that I'm not sure of the risks involved in this operation; there are some applications on the 1st HD that I don't have the disks for (as they came with the computer) that are valuable and I don't want to lose.
    So...
How do I safely get rid of the partition on the 12o GB hard drive?
    Thanks
    Dave

Use the Restore function of Disk Utility or CarbonCopyCloner to copy all the files from the 120GB HD to the new HD. Then boot to the new HD & use Disk Utility to erase & format the 120GB HD to one partition. (Make sure the new HD & files are working properly before you erase the old HD.)
You may be able to use only 128GB on the 200GB HD. Look at these links.

  • Can't get rid of corrupted font in Safari.

    Hi Guys,
Need help getting rid of what looks like corrupted font in my Safari. It doesn't appear in any other web browsers I have.
The font seems corrupted in each of the applications making icloud unusable in Safari. I have reinstalled Safari, checked pc for
trojans etc but everything seems ok. Running x64 windows 7 professional.

  • How to get rid of missing font "Wingdings Light Italic"?

The screenshot shows a bulleted list. The text is set in Myriad Pro Light Italic. The bullet is a square symbol from Wingdings, which I guess is trying to adapt to the styles from the body text, resulting in Wingdings Light Italic, which obviously does not exist.
I have tried using a separate character style for the bullet, setting the font to Wingdings regular. Also, I tried to simply delete the whole text frame, but the missing font keeps showing up, weirdly enough.
The bullets are displayed perfectly. I just would like to get rid of that missing font error. Any ideas?

That somehow did the trick. Replaced Wingdings Light Italic with Wingdings Regular. Replaced all, and redefined styles. Thanks.

  • Getting rid of unused video?

Hi, so, I'm just trying to use this software for the first time, to put together some clips of my daughters at their first July 4th parade.
I imported the video, I took the clips I wanted from the Event and I put them into a Project, and then I trimmed them all to go together the way I want.
So now, up in the Event window, I see all my clips, and there are little orange underlines showing the parts of the clips that I'm actually using.
I want to get rid of everything that isn't underlined in orange.
Is there a way to do something like "select unused footage," which will put selection brackets around everything unused, and then delete it?
Or maybe to do something like "select only used footage," and then trim all those selections so that they're independent clips, allowing me to easily delete the unused clips?
Or any other way, perhaps? The only remotely related thing I can find is that "Space Saver" feature, but it only works at the level of entire clips, it won't weed out the unused portions inside a clip.
    Any help?

I've figured out how to do it, it's relatively simple, and I'm posting it to share with anyone else who might need it.
Although it's simple, there's a bit of a trick to it:
    1) Before you do anything else, you have to mark every clip you're going to use as rejected all the way through. Every clip you intend to use should be completely marked with a red line before you start.
    2) As you review your clips, choose the footage you want to use, and mark it as a favorite. Do this all the way through your project.
    3) Choose to view only favorite footage, then select all of it and drag it into the project window. iMovie will advise you to be more choosy before moving footage to your project. Just ignore it.
    4) Your project should now contain all (or most) of the footage you want to use. Now go ahead and make your movie--edit and arrange the clips, etc. Go wild.
    5) When you're done, and you're sure you're done, i.e. you're ready to delete all the unused footage forever, go back through the event window and just make sure that you haven't used any rejected footage in the project. All the used footage will be shown by an orange bar at the bottom of the footage, and the rejected by a red bar at the top. Make sure there is no point where orange and red footage overlap. If they do overlap anywhere, just un-reject the overlapped footage. It won't be hard.
    6) You should be really really sure you're done now. And if you're sure, just choose to view only rejected clips in the event panel. All of your unused footage will now be displayed! All you have to do is press the button at the top of the events panel that reads "Move Rejected Clips to Trash." Presto, footage gone. (But note: if you have any clip where *any part* of used footage overlaps rejected footage, none of the rejected footage from that clip will show up. iMovie will only show selections from within a clip if the whole clip is free of overlapping footage. Odd, but there you go.)
    7) Once you've pressed that button, it all vanishes from iMovie. Then you simply empty the trash from the Finder, and say hello to extra hard drive space!
I hope this helps anyone in my situation or similar. If people tell you that no program anywhere ever ever ever will do what you want, don't listen. iMovie will, and it's not even that hard.

  • How can I get rid of unused balance while I'm in different country?

While in the US I purchased an itunes card and changed my information to a US address to be able to use my card. I am now in Canada wanting to use another itunes card but I cannot change my information without using my remainder balance of 17 cents. Is there a way I can get around this by getting rid of the money completely or do I need to use a credit card and purchase a song in order for the balance to be gone?

  • Preview files, how to get rid of unused ones ?

Is there a way to clean the preview folder for those not used in the project ?

Right, but that's sort of a brute force tactic--you lose all preview files unless you can pick out the relevant ones from the cryptically named preview files. What is missing from Premiere Pro is a "Delete Unused/Inactive Render Files" command that would eliminate old or unused previews, and retain those which are in use by a currently-rendered sequence. Avid had/has a rather convoluted way of deleting unused "precomputes," but it was effective in slimming down a project and still maintaining your desired render files. Premiere Pro is behind on this.
That said, NO previews being required would be even better

Somebody help me please! I changed the font to LARGE to be able to read without my glasses. Now it only shows the top left corner of each page, you can't scroll across or down, you can't see the rest of the icons or messages and, worst of all, you can't change back to normal font. Am I stoopid?

  • Getting rid of unused files

In trying to recapture space on my boot drive, I'm finding files that don't appear to be useful to me:
Applications(OS9), Desktop (OS9), System folder from old Mac, Previous Systems (from a melt down before).. are these items I can safely delete or do they need to be in place?
    TIA

    Hi ajoaks;
Let's start with the easiest first. A folder labeled Previous System is the results of an Archive & Install. If after the A&I everything is working as it should then there is no reason to keep this folder.
As far as the OS9 folders go that is depended on whether or not you are using OS9 or "Classic" to run any of the older applications. If you are not using anything that needs OS9 then it can be deleted. I would suggest moving it to the trash and then testing all of your applications to see if any of them object to something being missing.
Now exactly how short of disk space are you?
If you have really run you disk space low like less then 10% available, then the chances of file corruption are greatly increased. I would strongly suggest that you boot from the install media for your system and running Disk Utility to repair your hard drive.

  • I have tried everything to figure out how to get rid of this font.....

and nothing is working! I am going NUTS. Select pages in Safari (craigslist of all things) and my Mail program want to be in this crazy font, which I was told is probably Helvetica fractions. I found it and deleted it from all possible locations I can find, and also deleted some others that people mentioned even might cause a problem. I have cleaned out font cache with Onyx numerous times....not sure what else to do at this point. Also I tried to go into my fontbook program to "resolve duplicates" and I can't--if I select all fonts I can see it in the edit menu but it is greyed out. What gives? Is my whole fontbook program maybe messed up? Thoughts/ suggestions welcome. If you told me gargling salt water standing on my head would fix it I would try it at this point.
    thanks

What about the fontbook not being able to resolve duplicates?
    Try deleting the 'com.apple.FontBook.plist' file.
    HD/Users/yourhome/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.FontBook.plist
any other fnts that can commonly cause problems besides the few that are mentioned all the time?
These two can cause problems 'Times Phonetic' -- 'Rougue Stencil-Type' but probably checked for them.

  • How to get rid of unused files from robohelp 7

How do I delete should I do about the unsued files?
Robohelp 'help' on  the unused file report help'  is an  outrageously bad joke:
    Unused files report
You cannot remove these files from within your project. Use Windows Explorer  to delete the files.
Note: Avoid using Windows Explorer or your  version-control application to remove files.
    Peter

The files are not shown in project manager because they are not part of the project. They are still within the project's folders though.
If you are not using version control, then you do just delete them using Windows Explorer.
I believe the incorrect information has been corrected in later versions of RH.

    Hi D4309.
You probably have a troublesome font installed that causes this (e.g. Helvetica Fractions). If that's the case, get rid of it:

  • How do I get rid of 'orphaned' files

    Hi,
What is a good software (free preferably) to use in order to get rid of 'orphaned' files I seem to have migrated over from my old iMac? For example, I have Virtual PC, Print Explosion, Otto game, etc. in there as well as many other orphaned files/folders like this that I won't be using on my Macbook Pro. Is there a software that will detect these so I can SAFELY get rid of all these unnecessary files? Please advise.

This isn't an endorsement since I haven't used it.
