  • No safely remove hardware icon in tray

    Hi,
i updated nokia pc suite and now when i connect my nokia 6680 to the pc i have no more the safely remove hardware icon in tray and i am worried if i can damage the nokia when i disconnect the cable.
Now i heard that there is no need to ask permission to disconnect in safely remove hardware icon in tray in the nokia pc suite mode is this true? i heard that you only need to ask permission to disconnect if you are in the mass storage mode but i think that i don´t have this option in my nokia juste in the newer models, so maibe i can only connect in
    pc suite mode.
    What you guys think?

Yes, it is right. You don't need safly remove in PC Suite mode, only in mass storage mode. And v.7.1 is not a first Suite, which doesn't activate remove icon in tray in PC Suite mode.

  • Windows 7 64bit Safely Remove Hardware Icon takes too long

With XP it takes 2 seconds to remove a jump drive with Safely Remove Hardware
But, on my Windows 7 pro 64 bit running a i3 Core-330M(2.13GHz) with 4GB RAM, it takesaround 30 seconds.
    Here is what happens:
#1: I get an hour glass for 7 seconds that goes away.
#2: Nothing happens. There is no feedback that anything is is still happening under the covers.
#3: After another 27 seconds the list of removable drives appears, and I can remove the drive.
I am resigned to just living with this, since it is not worth any effort to fix.
But, I would like to know if this is normal behavior.
If this is abnormal, perhaps my new Lenovo EDGE 14 may have some hardware problems?
Thanks ind advance for any light on how to solve this.
    Regards

  • Reoccuring Safely Remove Hardware - T60 WinXP SP3

    HI all,
I received my laptop back from the repair center today. Once I finished with the Windows setup the Remove Hardware Safely icon was waiting in the taskbar. The device it lists is the Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM UJ-842 - [D:]. I followed the steps to Stop device and windows popped up the "it is now safe to remove ..." message and the Safely Remove Hardware icon was removed from the taskbar. When I restarted the Safely Remove Hardware icon returned. I have only plugged 1 device into the machine; a usb mouse. I have not installed any new programs either. What steps do I take to end this loop?
    Happy New Year

Looks like the Handle command-line utility should be able to filter on D:\; quoting from the above link:
    usage: handle [[-a] [-u] | [-c <handle> [-l] [-y]] | [-s]] [-p <processname>|<pid>> [name]
    name
This parameter is present so that you can direct Handle to search for references to an object with a particular name.
For example, if you wanted to know which process (if any) has "c:\windows\system32" open you could type:
    handle windows\system
The name match is case-insensitive and the fragment specified can be anywhere in the paths you are interested in.

  • Main hard drive listed as a "Safely Remove Hardware" device?

how do I get rid of the icon (in the system tray) ....and what would have if I "removed" the device.  This is my primary hard drive that is being listed.

It is possible that you never unplug this hardware. So how do you get rid of the icon? As far as I know the only way is to right-click the notification area, and selecting Properties. Under the Notification area heading, click Customize. Find the Safely Remove Hardware icon and select Always hide in the Behavior column next to it (press OK and Apply to back out).
Is this the only thing we can do to "hide" it??? Hide the systray icon?? It will be there by just clicking the round button with the little white arrow, actually it is there already (hidden) as I already did this since I installed windows.
Also in my case I do have 3 external Firewire/USB devices (2 HDD's 1 CD-RW) and I need to remove them by clicking the safe removal thing, right next to my RAID-0 HDD's...

  • IPod doesn't sync to iTunes and "safely remove hardware" doesn't appear

I've got an iPod Nano (2nd generation) which is still in excellent condition. I download some songs from iTunes, and decide to sync them to my iPod. When I plug my USB adapter into my computer and then my iPod, I expectd the title "syncing iPod" to come up, but it didn't. I also looked at my taskbar, and the "safely remove hardware" icon was not there. Also, the device home for my iPod does not come up in iTunes, not allowing me to make any changes to my iPod. Can you help me with this very weird problem I am having?

  • Safely Remove Drive Icon Dead

For a while now, when I right or left click on the system tray icon thing to stop any connected USB drive nothing happens - the list of drives doesnt show.  If I left click, the icon flashes, but nothing happens.
Searching around, some people have the same issue, but no solution.
I found if you go into the device manager->Disk drives->my drive->properties-policies, change it from "quick removal" to "better performanc" it gives you a handy link to "safely remove hardware".  This pops up the correct dialog and shows both my external USB drive and also the internal DVD drive.  however, if I try and stop the drive, it always fails, even though indexing is turned off, no programs are accessing it, and no file explorers are open.
It sucks.  I dont know if its a microsoft thing or a driver thing.  I have all the latest drivers as of 3 months ago.

You can configure the toolbar to "Always Hide" or "Hide When Inactive" that specific icon. Press "Start" and right-click at the top of the menu icon...in the blue area. Pick "Properties"....choose "Taskbar", then pick "Customize". Find the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and to the right, you can choose three options. Pick "Always Hide" and then "Apply", then "O.K."....
If you are not enabling Spread Spectrum in BIOS, then no reason to configure jumper settings on WD drive either.

  • My video call icon on facebook chat has disappeared since upgrading to mavericks, any ideas anyone?

Since upgrading to Mavericks about a month ago, my video chat icon has disappeared from Facebook chat - I can't think of any other reason for this problem other than the upgrade to Mavericks. Any ideas anyone?

I'm also dealing with some slowness since moving to Mavericks — but mainly with regard to long lag times with the Finder when I go to rename files, move files, or delete files.
Could it be any of the following? (which came up red)

  • IPod only connects as Removable Disk (E:) and says "Safely Remove Hardware

I recently posted about this problem and since then, I have not been able to do a thing. I have done the 5 R's, and still nothing. This is very frustrating, I just want my iPod so update again. The music and videos are still on it but some songs just totally skip, and few videos don't work correctly. Still, even in disk mode, the iPod connects as Removable Disk (E:) and pops up into the taskbar as "safely remove hardware." I've read about formatting the iPod but I really don't want to mess it up. My patience is waring thin once again.
This weekend I am looking to go to the Apple Store to see if they can see what is wrong with it and get it repaired, or just get a new one. I'll post again on what happens. Any help about my problem will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!

Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop   Windows XP

I've been having a similar problem with ipod software not interacting with the windows system correctly. I was having to go through the "Restore" defaults process over and over (for last three days) with no success. I went to the Apple Store, Genius counter at Westfield Mall today and the tech did a reset to "Restore Defaults" with no problem from an apple machine. He also loaded 2000 songs successfully.
I bought the 60G ipod with video Thursday this week and have been fighting with it since then.
At home, I tried ipod updater with Restore Defaults and the software failed and corrupted the ipod folder index file. I've been trying to do all this through a PCMCI Dual Link card (which has the USB2 port on it) and was getting all sorts of different types of problems and errors (like the folder with the "!") and having no luck getting the windows format through the "Restore Defaults" choice. In an act of desperation I decided to try a regular USB port (I believe it's the 1.1 version, but not sure) on the computer directly and was able to get the factory setting "Restore" into the ipod (but with a slower speed of data transfer). I rebooted the computer and then brought up iTunes to do the sync of songs which took about 1.5 hours (for ~2000 songs) but worked fine. I've shut down and restarted the computer a few more times since then and iTunes still finds the ipod on the same USB port and does the sync without issue.
I believe my problem was the ADS Technology Cardbus Interface Card (which has Firewire & USB 2.0 ports) and plugs into the PCMCI slot on the side of my computer. If I don't use this card and instead use a regular USB (1.1?) port, the wide variety of problems I was having have disappeared.
My 2 cents for what it's worth.

  • T410s External Display and Safely Remove Hardware Problems

I have two problems with my new T410s with Windows 7.  First, I use it with an external display.  It works fine when I set the dispaly settings to Projector Only and set the power settings to Do Nothing When I Close the Lid.  However, when I restart the computer the screen image on the external display is often mis-sized, does not cover the whole screen, and has part of the image cut off.  If I open the lid and change the display setting to computer only, then back to projector only it works fine again.
Any ideas on why it will not hold the proper setting when I turn the computer off?
The second problem is common to both my wife's X201 with Windows 7 and my new T410s.  If you click on Safely Remove Hardware/Eject Mass Storage Device both computers will tell us it is now safe to remove our device.  However, if the device is one of our compact external backup drives the device's light will still be on and the disk will still be spinning, so it seems it cannot really be safe to remove it.  This happens even if we wait a minute after the safely remove indication to see if the external drive shuts down after a short delay - it doesn't!
As a result, my wife and I are shutting down our computers whenever we want to remove an external storage device.  Any comments or ideas would be welcome!

For anyone who is concerned about the "safely remove hardware" issue noted in my original post, I have done more research and found that Windows 7 maintains power to the USB ports after safely remove has been executed in order to allow devices like MP3 players to continue charging after they are safely removed.  Windows XP actually shut off the power to the USB ports and this is what I was used to until I got a new T410s with Windows 7.
This means an external HDD's disk will also keep spinning.  However, the safely remove sequence is SUPPOSED to cause the disk's heads to move away from the disk and return to their at rest position, so there should be no damage to the HDD if it is removed even though the disk is still spinning.
Since I have no way to assure this is happening I am still turning off my computer and making sure the disk has stopped spinning before I remove my USB HDD.
I would appreciate comments from people who know more than me about this issue, especially if my info. above is not correct!

  • T400, DVD Drive shows up as Safely Remove Hardware?

T400, Win 7 64bit. My DVD/CD Drive has an icon on the tray "safely remove hardware". Is this normal for DVD drives on these units?

Yes; the optical drive is removable, so it has a safely remove option.

  • USB Drives works, but does not show up in "Safely Remove Hardware"

USB Drives works, but does not show up in "Safely Remove Hardware"
    windows 8
USB Drives works, but does not show up in "Safely Remove Hardware"
    Here are my symptom
    - USB Flash Drives , USB External HDD works normally
    - I can see them in "My Computer"
    - I can open "Safely Remove Hardware" via Run Command, but there is no device in the list
    - They show up as "Disk drives" in device manager
    - When I right click their icons in "My Computer", there is no option to "Eject" them
    - In "Disk Management", they show up as "Basic". Prior to this issue, they were "Removable"
After I tested, it seems that my Vista detects every USB storage device as a normal HDD.
I don't know why but I'd appreciate any help because I have to plug-in and remove those drives often, especially flash drives.
    Thank you

The buy icon has disappeared from my itunes store...how can I purchase songs??

The Youtube app was removed by Apple in iOS6.  You can use either the iPhone app from Youtube (free in the app store, but you've got to set it at 2x), or go to www.youtube.com in a Safari web browser.  You can also add the web page to your Home Screen using the share feature.  It will then operate just like an app.
