Safety for teens

Hi all. I bought my son an Ipod touch and have since then discovered that he was accessing inappropriate internet content . Is there any way to completely disable the internet so that he can only use it for music?
Thanks

You cannot disable the wifi, but you can disable Safari and the installation of Apps (to prevent him from downloading another 3rd party browser).  To do this, head to Settings -> General -> Restrictions.
Keep in mind that if your son restores the iPod in iTunes, it would wipe away the passcode.

  • Family Safety for Education

    Hello,
I work for a school that has implemented and distributed Intel Education devices with Windows 8.1 for students.  Now, I'm looking at Family Safety which seems pretty impressive as it could also work outside school for controlling their usage with ease.
It also works on the free proxy/vpn connections with IE browser (Google Chrome is not though and can be installed without Admin rights).
My concern is with the volume.  We have distributed near 3000 devices already and there are 3000 to come.  Are we going to face any problems if we use a single Microsoft account to handle all this?  Or is there a better way for Family Safety
for Education with this type of size?
Applying it to existing and new devices would also be headache too.  Is there a batch script or automated way to create Administrator Microsoft account on existing devices?

Yes! Set up Family Safety on every PC , and make sure everyone uses their own accounts. Then manage their Family Safety settings and monitor their activities at
the Family Safety website. You may see different options when you sign in from different PCs, depending on the operating systems.

  • Parental controls for teen

Question about parental control account: I would like to be able to check logs and block adult content on the web browser but I want my teen to be an administrator so he can change his own wallpaper and certain other settings. Is there any way for me to check logs without blocking all of his other admin capabililities?
    Thanks.

you can't have it both ways. if a user is an administrator then that user can do anything he/she wants to the computer: turn parental controls on/off, remove logs, change admin passwords etc. you should have parental controls enabled on that account. and a user doesn't need to be admin to be able to change the desktop background. you simply have to allow that user to use system preferences. you can do that from system preferences-.parental controls->system.

  • Why won't Apple support "text blocking for teens while driving"?

I was watching the Today show and they did a spot on teens and texting.  Did you know that 18 teens die PER DAY because of texting?  Fortunately, there are many products out there that can block texting and phone calls (except 911) while the car is moving.  Unfortunately, Apple will not support any of these products.  Why?  Are they not concerned about the safety of our teens?

This is a user-to-user forum. You're not actually addressing Apple here. Submit your feedback using the Feedback page:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
You might also want to contact your carrier and have them block text messaging on your teenagers' phones if they have demostrated they can't use texting responsibly.
    Best of luck.

What can I do to protect my kids on their itouches?  I don't want to take the internet away from them as many games require it. But is there some special filter I can put on there to keep them from accessing inappropriate content?
This was in a post from several years back...

Did you see this page from the safekids.com site: http://www.safekids.com/child_safety.htm I thought it offered some good, practical tips for parents looking to protect their kids.

  • Thread safety for synchronization process

We are invoking multiple instance of our
application and attempt to issue synchronization calls simultaneously in order
    to perform some load testing.
Is the Oracle lite synchronization process thread safe? Does anyone have
recommendation on how to perform concurrent synchronization from the same
    computer?
    We recieve following exception:
System.AccessViolationException {"Attempted to read or write protected memory.
    This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."}

Did you have a windows form or a web based application? Did you use LoadRunner to invoke multiple concurrent synchronization calls to move data from the lite database to the back-end database? Also, was LoadRunner executing against one instance of your application or multiple instances? Were application instances running on one machine or multiple machines? We are just trying to get a better understanding of your application/load test setup and see if it was structurally similar to ours.
We basically have a windows form based application designed for a single user. This application allows user to synchronize data from Olite to back-end Oracle database after user has completed their data entry.
We wanted to test the performance of our synchronization process. That is how many user can concurrently synchronize their data at the same time.
Given that our application is a single user application, we decided to invoke multiple instances of application on a single machine and then simultaneously try to synchronize (via a tool) each instance of the application. Hence the error.
    Thanks for your feedback.

  • Jmap: portability and safety for snapshotted process?

I'm working on tracking down a memory leak in a java application that's at the heart of my employer's business. Right now, we're restarting it periodically, and watching it closely with nagios.
I'd like to do a jmap dump and jhat analysis of the heap while it has a lot of memory in use - but before I do, we need to answer the question: "Is there any risk to the process inspected?" Has anyone ever seen or heard of a java process getting messed up (say, writing corrupted data?) as a result of a jmap?
Another, slightly less important question is: Can I jmap on a windows machine and analyze the resulting file on a Linux machine?
    Thanks!

  • Safety for deleting files on accident

is there a way i can set it up so when i delete a file from the arrange window, instead of erasing from my hard drive it will just be moved to some sort of trash bin (Like iMovie dose it)?
are there any other safety measures i can take to fix, accidentally deleting a track?

    Hi there,
Audio files are not deleted from the hard drive. In fact, if you delete an audio file from the arrange window, it's still in the project. Look in the Audio Window to find it (Audio > Audio Window).
If you delete a MIDI file, it goes into Logic's trash. However, you can only see the trash via a key command. Use Option-K to open the key commands and enter "trash" in the top right hand corner. Then assign a key command to it and close the key commands window.
When you use that key command, it opens a window that looks a little like the arrange page. However, you can drag MIDI regions from it back onto the arrange page, should you have deleted them accidentally.

  • Checking 16x9 Anamorphic Footage for 4:3 Action/Title Safety

I am working in place where most things are coming in 16x9 SD, with some mixed 4:3 footage as well. The graphics department as provided an element to place over the 4:3 footage to fill in the sides for 16x9.
However here s a little station logo on that graphic that has been reported to be out of safety on a 4:3 monitor. If my sequence timeline is setup for 720x480 (Anamorphic) how can I check Action/Title safety for 4:3?

  • Parental Controls for Safari

Does anyone know of an effective parental control for OX 10.3 for Safari to not allow my teens on inappropriate web sites?

I can't remember what we did for our child in Panther but what happens when you go to User Accounts in System Preferences and click on Limitations for a User other than the Admin? I know that we were able to create a User Account with more limited access in 10.3.9 for our young child.
We're about to test out KidsBrowser (because of its graphical interface for young kids) but the same company makes CutX for Safari for teens. (More info at company's site here and you can download a trial version.) CutX will allow you to limit objectionable websites (based on certain keywords and URLs) but it doesn't help with other critical children's internet safety issues such as email and especially chat access and transmission of personal information.
You can also look at What's New in Tiger—Family Controls which has many more parental control options. You can even enable parental controls from within Safari and limit email access by specific address in the User Preferances pane.
(Just in case you haven't checked them out already, there's more information about the issue in general at GetNetWise (including information on internet safety products) and NetSmartz.
I don't envy you - it's a lot simpler doing this for our younger-aged children.
    Good luck!

  • Flash Player Works for Some Users, Not Others

I have recently upgraded my home computers to Windows 7 (64 bit). My kids all have standard user accounts. I have installed Adobe Flash Player as an administrator. It works for me (administrator) and some of my kids (standard accounts) but not for all of my kids. As far as I can tell, the kids' accounts are identical, so I can't figure out why some of them can use Flash Player and some cannot on the same computers.
For the accounts where Flash Player does not work, we get a prompt to install the latest version (which, of course, is already installed). Even when I try to reinstall it (using my administrator password), the problem is not resolved. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash Player, with no success.
I use both Windows Parental Controls and Windows Family Safety for my kids' accounts. All four kids have the same settings. I tried turning these off temporarily to see if that would make a difference but it did not.
    I am baffled. Help!

  • Need to use iSight as full-screen 'webcam' for play - Quickly!

We're doing a production on Internet safety for children, and we need an actor to be shown on large monitors, speaking and interacting with the cast in real time. Is there any way of using the iSight camera for this? iChat needs an account (and shows the OTHER person!) iMovie shows all the clips areas while the camera is on. We need, basically to have just the actor's face showing, so the MacBook is working as a camera. Oh - photobooth also doesn't show full screen till after the camera is off.
Any ideas from you illustrious folk?
I'll try the video forum too.
