Sailing windy block font

hello guys,
I am making a homepage for my sailing club.
Attached is the sort of old "Scouty" image I am sourcing.
Do you know what type of font is used in the heading?
Can you think of a nicer font to try?
Alex

Alex,
Here is a place to look: http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
There are countless fonts, so it all depends on which appearance or feel you are after. For sailing, you might consider using italics, and/or something a bit, or more than a bit, swirly.

  • Problem with copying and pasting text blocks in Fireworks CS5

    Until recently when I copied and pasted a text block in Fireworks CS5, the block would retain all formatting applied to the copied text block, font, size, color, etc. Now, the pasted block reverts to some default setting. Oddly, if I copy multiple text blocks, the formatting is retained as expected, but not if I copy a single text block. I cannot find a preference that affects this, and I cannot figure out what might have changed. The current behaviour is definitely not desired, and is dramatically affecting my efficiency. Anyone experienced something similar or have any ideas how to correct this? Thanks.

    Sure, thanks for replying so quickly. My workflow is simple. My problem is limited to copying and pasting within Fireworks. I typically select an entire block with the main selection arrow but I sometimes use this one too depending on the context. I usually just use the keyboard CTRL-C then CTRL-V to paste. Previously (and I have been using FW for years, it's always been the same) it would paste an identical text block directly over the top of the copied one, and it looked exactly the same, same font, same color, etc. Now, it pastes a new block in the center of the document and all the formatting has reverted to what I guess is the default, in this case Myriad Pro 12pt. The behavior is the same no matter which arrow I use to select the text block. I tried Edit>Copy and Edit>Paste, the effect was the same. The Duplicate function seems to work as desired, but I had never noticed or tried that command before reading your post. Using the keyboard to copy/paste is such an ingrained habit I'd much prefer to continue using it as I always have instead of trying to retrain myself. (I'm old, retraining is hard!)
    (Selected block)
    (pasted block)
    Most often I copy and paste directly on the canvas, but occasionally will do it within the layers panel. Both now have the same undesired effect. I also tried creating a new document to see if it was a corruption in my current file, but the issue persisted to the new document as well.
    Thanks.

  • Change font size using code

    I would like to change the font size using the xml code.
    <?draft?> is the field I am using and would like to define the size of the field / text by code.

    <fo:block font-size="14pt" font-family="verdana" color="red">
    Your test or your field

  • How does Entertainment Weekly's site make this font family call?

    The font I am referring to is the one on the two-line nav menu at the top of the page, beginning with "TV" on the first line, and ending with "Blogs" on the second. The same font also appears to be used in the "More from our partners" section that follows the movie listings at the bottom.
    I'd like to know what font EW is using here, as it does not seem to be anything I have installed on my system. I'd also like to know how they're calling it (which line in the code is the one making this call?) so I can study it more closely.
    Please note than I am specifically looking for how EW did it, and not alternate methods of calling the font that may be considered equally effective (first things first).
    Thanks.

    There seems to be some confusion to clear up : I can see jaf-bernini-sans-condensed without having it installed on my system. The EW website is serving it to me through the web somehow.
    Not sure what exactly you are seeing on your system but the code to render fonts on your system is this:
    @import url('http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Francois+One');
    Now the css that actually defines the fonts is this:
    #primary-nav li.first-level > a {
    z-index : 50;
    line-height : 37px;
    text-align : center;
    display : block;
    font-size : 20px;
    font-family : jaf-bernino-sans-condensed, 'Francois One', arial, sans-serif;
    font-weight : 500;
    color : #fff;
    If you don't have the first fonts defined then you are likely to get the second.  Its picture is here:
    Does this answer your question?  If not please post a picture of what exactly you are seeing on your screen.

  • Xsl attribute font-size doesnt work

    Hi,
    I wanted to set the font-size dynamically.
    I tried as below:
    <xsl:attribute xdofo:ctx="incontext" name="font-size">30pt</xsl:attribute>
    <?attribute@incontext:font-size;'30pt'?>
    nothing worked.
    But If I give the same for font-weight it works.
    Whereas If I use <fo:block font-size="30pt">TEXT</fo:block> it works as expected.
    May I know why xsl attributes doesnt work in this case?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
    If i understand, you want different font-size for different text blocks which contain more than one row?
    E.g.
    <font size="1">Some text in
    first block</font></br>
    <font size="2">Some text in
    second block</font></br>
    <font size="3">Some text in
    third block</font></br>
    Something like that?

  • Incoming email fonts change in Windows 8.1 LIve Mail

    Some, but not all incoming email fonts change to almost unreadable block fonts when arriving at Windows Live Mail.  It seems to be happening on forwarded items only.    Suggestions on how to stop this, or change fonts when it occurs would be most welcome.
    On same general subject, is it possible to change size of incoming email fonts in Windows 8.1?

    John, welcome to the forum.
    Open Windows Live Mail.  Click on the blue "File" in the upper left corner.  Then, Options / Mail / Read / Fonts (lower middle of page) / Font size.  There you can change the size of the font. I believe that it should come set to "Medium".  You can change it by clicking on the drop-down menu.

  • Loading fonts on an Internet applet...

    I am new to Java, and as a teenager interested in video games, I decided to let myself get acquainted with Java by making a video game myself. To fine-tune the fnished product, I want to add more appropriate fonts, and I would like to know how to do so.
    I tried it myself, but the compiler insists that I handle possible exceptions (IOException and FontFormatException); how do I do this? (the IOExceptions needed to be handled on lines 2 and 3 of the following block, font format on line 3)
    public URL papURL = MyGame.class.getResource("fonts/PAPYRUS.TTF");
    public InputStream papIS = papURL.openStream();
    public Font papyrusFont = Font.createFont(Font.TRUETYPE_FONT,papIS);as I said, I am pretty new to Java, and I do not know how to fix this. Thanks for any help! Note, I imported everything I need, including the exceptions...

    Hello,
    Applets accept parameters, so you could use these parameters to move or resize the main frame (like the Forms applet does).
    If your are the owner of the Applet, you also could envisage to transcript it into a Java Bean, then it would be totally transparent for the user.

  • Changing dialog box fonts

    Hi all,
    I've recently started a new job where the computer (mac Pro4 OS X 10.6.8) I'm using was being used by someone else before I started. When I open Dreamweaver (CS4 already installed when I got here) all of the dialog boxes have a strange block font which is hard to read and in some cases, cut off and I can't read what certain fields are supposed to be.
    I tried fooling around with the preferences in dreamweaver and I reset all settings to default in dreamweaver, but nothing I tried made a difference.
    Below is a screen shot of what I'm trying to explain. You can see the dark block font describing what each field is. All of the dialog boxes and properties panels are like this. How do I change this to something like arial or helvetica or anything that's easier to read than what's showing?

    Thanks for the help. I've been working on cleaning up the font book for a while. I got rid of the duplicates and all of the fonts with red "x's". I restarted the computer and it hasn't changed.
    Then I went through all of the fonts and deleted all of the fonts that looked similar. It's still there. I probably just haven't found the right font, but I appreciate your help.
    You can see it here on the opening credits too......so strange.

  • Why does the @font-face work in a Private Tab, but not in a normal Tab?

    I consistently find that the @font-face does not work in Firefox unless I use a Private Tab, but I prefer to use a regular Tab so that I can keep track of what pages I have visited. In a Private Tab the Android app displays Hebrew with cantillation marks as nicely as Windows does using the very same font. This is probably an unintended bug, as I cannot imagine why you would want Private Tabs to work better than the regular ones. The css function in question is:
    @font-face {
    font-family: 'Shlomo LB';
    src: url('../ShlomoLightBold.ttf') format('truetype');
    font-weight: normal;
    font-style: normal;
    }

    Hello,
    Thank you for bringing this up. There is an open issue in Bugzilla - [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=769194 src:local() @font-face rules doesn't work on Android]. But in this case you are mentioning a src:url, so I don't know if they are related.
    Also, can you please confirm if you are using NoScript or any other plugin on your browser and if there are settings that differ for the normal tabs vs. private tabs (noscript has an option to block @font-face).
    Would it be possible for you to create a sample for testing this?
    Thank you

  • TypeKit fonts don't show in Photoshop

    It's not just on Apple, having same issue on PC. Font Typekit is a JOKE. It's been nothing but trouble. It blocks fonts I already owned and had loaded, and when I try to sync fonts from Typekit via Adobe Cloud, it won't. I purely HATE this new Creative Cloud...should be called Creative Fog. If someone from Adobe wants to contact me to help, use the webform at Contact - Lucid Marketing Consultant Nashville | Lucid Marketing ... I have no intention of hanging on the phone for hours like the fellow who started this stream. PS So I went back, reloaded Creative Cloud, went back to Typekit, it says the fonts are synced, but they do not show up in Photoshop: typekit bites - LucidGal's library ... how do I get out of Creative Cloud and just go back to the out-of-the-box Adobe programs that used to work?

    Of the ones I own and have alays been able to use, Weiss, Mission come to mind. I don't have time to go back and look at every single font I've tried to use. I've tried and given up, which I think is really the objective for Adobe. Evidenced by asking a dozen questions about unrelated stuff and moving my problem around to different discussion threads. You win. I quit.

  • I need a old mac font?

    I need the apple font "Techno" it's just a tall skinny block font, but new macs don't come with it, and i haven't had any luck on the web, so if you could let me know where i can download it from or if you have it and could attach it to an e-mail for me that would be great. <edited by host>

    The approved method for making your email address available is the one Tom (Texas Mac Man) uses. Enter an email address in your profile, and then choose to make it visible. You can specify a "disposable" address if you prefer, or you can change your profile to make it no longer visible at a whim.
    Posting your email address openly in the accessiblewithout_loggingon sections of the forums attracts ants spambots, which harvest the addresses to send you thrilling offers to enlarge your nether regions, offer you items to help your stocks, fake Rolex watches, and nether regions go up, and facilitate illegal money laundering through your bank account, all while refinancing your mortgage. Once they get fed here, they will keep coming back.

  • Weird font is displayed which screws up the web page layouts

    When I view certain pages, such as this one, much of the text, normally text that would be in h1, h2,h3 tags is displayed in a weird block font that looks terrible and is almost impossible to read. An Example screenshot is here : http://i39.tinypic.com/2drz96x.gif. Please help me, I've tried clearing cache, uninstalling/reinstalling, deleting full directory, etc.

    This issue can be caused by the bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or another (bitmap) font that can't be displayed by Firefox in that font size.
    Firefox can't display that font in the specified size and displays gibberish instead.
    You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
    Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or find a True type version of that font that doesn't have the problem.

    <p class="c3"><strong class="c2">Using Octenol to Attract Mosquitoes<br /></strong><br /></p>
    <p class="c3">Octenol is an natural chemical that occurs naturally as a by-product of plants and some animals that eat a lot of vegetable produce. If carbon dioxide is mixed with octenol, it has been found to be an attractant to several mosquito species. There are other insects such as no-see-ums and biting midges that are also attracted to this scent. It has been proven to be a very effective product, especially for no-see-ums.<br />
    <br />
    <img src="images/12137165-cartoon-stop-mosquito.jpg" width="168" height="168" alt="mosquito" /><br />
    <br />
    Octenol is also a pesticide ingredient that is used to attract mosquitoes and biting flies. It does not kill the insects; it only attracts them. It can be used in combination with other products and devices that do kill them once they are successfully attracted to the device. It is important to be aware that non-pest insects are also attracted and destroyed by some of the devices.<br />
    <br />
    If octenol is ingested, there is a possibility for toxicity. It is not, however, harmful in the air to humans, pets, or the environment. It is vitally important that it is kept safely away from children to avoid the possibility of ingesting. Placement of the attractant and device utilized to catch biting insects should be carefully considered. It should be kept safely away from children and pets.<br /></p>
    <p class="c3">To be most effective in mosquito control, the attractant should be placed between the breeding grounds of the mosquito and the area where the people are located. There are range limits that the attractant will reach and this needs to be considered in the placement of the trap as well.<br /></p>

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the block elements. The elements within these blocks have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the block itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the block element and place a second block element within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
    2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a block set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For blocks where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the block element's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
    3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar blocks could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
    4) If you prefer your nav on the left instead of the right, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all left instead of all right) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the blocks around in the HTML source.

    I am not sure what's happening with IE9 (no live site) but I had real problems viewing your code in Live View - until I removed the HTML comment marked below. Basically your site was viewable in Design View but as soon a I hit Live view, it disappeared - much like IE9. See if removing the comment solves your issue.
