Sale on Dell UltraSharp U2711 and U3011 Monitors

I noticed while over at the Tom's Hardware site a decent sale on two of the top-of-the-line Dell monitors.  I know this looks like spam but I'm not affiliated with Tom's hardware in any way; I'm just passing on what looks like a decent price, for any of you who might be ready to buy a monitor...
U2711 - $807
U3011 - $1196
Both are with free shipping.
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/deals-ultrasharp-lcd-monitor-sale,16180.html
The U3011 is the one I'd get if I had a spare $1196 handy right at this moment.  Maybe I can find a way to scrape enough together in the next day or so...  2560 x 1600 could replace my current dual monitor 3200 x 1200 desktop nicely I think.  If only there was something actually wrong with these old Dell U2001FPs...  Where's my coffee cup...
Here are some pretty good in-depth reviews on these monitors:

It's just 100 ppi on the 30 incher, Trevor.  That's the beauty of it being so big.  As it turns out the dual 20 inchers I'm running now are 100ppi, and I find it to be a very sweet resolution (not that I wouldn't like 200 ppi).
I suppose that's a possible downside to getting one of these monitors now...  It could end up that right around the corner are super high resolution monitors that would make one regret purchasing "old tech".
I got to thinking about video cards yesterday evening, and I almost worked myself up to pulling the trigger on the U3011 plus a new VisionTek ATI Radeon 7850 (2 GB) with 3x the performance of my current video card.
I'm quite used to my 3200 x 1200 desktop, so changing to a 2560 x 1600 desktop might be just a bit of a challenge...  When not doing Photoshop I often tend to put reference materials on one monitor while actively working on the other.  Of course, I could retain one or both of these perfectly functional 20" monitors turned up sideways as "ears" on both sides and just add the 30" unit in the center...  THAT would be an amazing desktop!
Lundberg, I appreciate your skepticism, but the Dell U3011 to me right now represents the most attractive offering out there.

My caveats;  These are not the only adapters that you can find.  I have a feeling that these may be of inferior quality and I suggest you find some that are first rate.  Too many problems occur using cheap connectors.  After all your MBP is first rate and deserves the best.
Length is dependent upon your environmental requirements.  What I selected here is in a format that should work.  I like this configuration because of its simplicity.  I use a Mini/HDMI adapter which connects to a separate HDMI cable.  Nothing wrong with that, but not as tidy.
    Ciao.

  • Does  Mavericks have the problem fixed with working with the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30 inch monitor?

Does  Mavericks have the problem fixed with working with the Dell UltraSharp U3014 30 inch monitor?

I have this (or a similar) issue and I did notice something interesting. After I boot into Windows via Bootcamp (where I have the U3014 specfic driver installed) and then reboot into MacOS X (Mavericks) the monitor works flawlessly.
I would hazard a guess that this means bootcamp is retaining the driver used in Windows. Kind of the reverse of the TB GBE adapter driver issue.
To explain my issue for anyone else: the monitor flicks on and off as if the connection was poor. Connecting via HDMI. Connection is fine and as stated, everything works fine in Bootcamp.

  • Late 2012 Mac mini i7 to run dual Dell UltraSharp U2412M WITHOUT using the reported HDMI out problem port?

I've been reading about all the problems new Mac Mini users are having with trying to expand their desktop using the HDMI port.  ie: snowy screens, fuzzy text, blackouts etc etc.  My Mini is due to arrive in a couple days and I have two Dell UltraSharp U2412M LED/ISP monitors waiting for it.  I know one of them will work fine with a cord I already have: miniDisplay to Displayport.  Is there any way to daisy chain them if I run into this HDMI problem the others are having?  THANKS.
The monitors have:  Displayport, DVI, VGA connections only.

Mine shipped Oct 30 and I've had it running since Nov 6th. I took the original 4GB RAM out and replaced it with 16GB RAM. I also put a Mercury Elite 240GB SSD into the top bay using a doubler kit from OWC. I had an issue with the Disk Utility not liking the setup as two seperate drives. I ended up using Internet Recovery Disk Utility and did a Repair Disk on both drives and  Disk Utility merged the drives into a Fusion Drive which was then properly recognized by DU. It all seems to work well, although I would have preferred seperate drives and more partitions, Fusion Drives are only allowed 1 additional partition, go figure. The HDMI has a bit of overscan with my 50" Panasonic Viera but the colors are good and the picture and fonts clear and distinct @ 1080p. I frequently use 720p for larger images so I can sit on the couch 15' away and read the text without binoculars.

  • Connecting Dell UltraSharp U2212HM to Belkin Thunderbolt Dock

Hi , ive just bought a new MBPro 13 retina and also a Dell UltraSharp U2212HM and a Belkin Thunderbolt express Dock so that i can connect via single th/bolt cable, could anyone help me with regards to which cable that i need to connect the monitor to the dock? thank you

Hi there, I just bought a Belkin thunderbolt dock and I want to ask that can't I use additional thunderbolt port to output a mini DP signal to my ASUS PA279q?
Because when I plug into the ports, it start refreshing 2~3 seconds a time. Seems my screen doesn't get the signal.
P.S. I use Apple thunderbolt cable to connect my Macbook Pro Classic 2012 and mini DP to HDMI cable to connect between dock and screen.

  • Dell Ultrasharp U2410 WFP or HP2475W for my new MacPro?

I purchased a new MacPro quadcore 2.8. I use Adobe Illustrator CS5 and Adobe Elements to make Fishing and Diving charts printed on sheet fed presses. I am looking for a 24" to 27", 16:10 aspect ratio monitor for this new system and cannot deal with the glossy screens. I believe my choices are down to the Dell Ultrasharp U2410WFP and the HP2475W. Anyone have any input on either of these 2? Is there a better choice?
Please I could use some help.

On Windows side, Paragon Software has a nice set of tools for Macs, for Wiindows on Mac, as well as Windows only. CampTune X to install Windows. Clone OS to SSD/HDD for Windows (sort of CCC variant). And other tools.
You may have to put Windows on the 1TB SSD, which would be nice for performance.
I think you need to consider more RAM.
I would strongly look at one or more Thunderbolt cases for PCIe cards, and Thunderbolt storage for data.
A TB case with 1-2 Sonnet or other (whoever supports the nMP 6,1 and Thunderbolt under 10.9.x) Tempo Pro SSD for scratch.
www.sonnettech.com look at their Thunderbolt section
A case for 4-8 drives like www.macgurus.com  talk to them, to Rick, very helpful on RAID and support, even hand-holding when needed to walk you through and educate or get up to speed. Sounds like 4 x 2TB would do well for your needs for quite awhile.
You coud put a 2-4TB WD Black on Thunderbolt or USB3 (a TB to SATA adapter) for your media files, documents, and such that you keep in your home folder.
RAID6 is safer than RAID for your projects and work.
Mavericks supports software RAID "mirror + stripe" for redundacy and performance but at the cost of using twice as many drives.
USB3 (2) for TimeMachine and a system restore image (clone)
The sweet spot is likely BTO 6-core w/ 32GB RAM and a step up in GPUs I would guess.

  • Not recognizing max resolution of 2560x1600- Dell UltraSharp U3011 Monitor

I just got a 30" Dell UltraSharp U3011 monitor. For some reason, my MacBook Pro is not detecting that the maximum resolution should be 2560 x 1600. I'm connecting the monitor to the laptop with a DVI cable and Mini Display Port to DVI adapter which the Apple Store rep said would give me the max resolution and best picture quality.
Any thoughts on what I can do to solve this?

Hello. I can confirm that CrypticGuru is correct. I bought this cable which fixed the problem (same cable he lists, straight from the source):
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024606 &p_id=6007&seq=1&format=2
With this I now get beautiful 2560x1600 resolution on the u3011 and without the annoying audio error message from this other forum, where I cross-posted my experience:

  • Can the late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13" power 2 external Dell UltraSharp U2713HM monitors at full resolution?

Hi, I'm looking at buying the current Macbook Pro Retina 13", but I'd like to use it with 2 Dell UltraSharp U2713HM monitors http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&kc=305&l=en& oc=U2713HM-Black&s=dhs&sbc=dell-u2713hm
My plan was to use the the thunderbolt ports to the monitors DisplayPort plug. Can the 13" Macbook Pro drive 2 external screens @ 2560x1440 I'm happy to shut the macbook lid if necessary.
If the 13" can't do it, can the 15" model with it's discrete graphics card?
The Dell UltraSharp U2713HM – it’s everything you could want in a 27” monitor – screen brilliance, comfort and eco-consciousness all rolled into one
27-inch (diagonal) VIS with LED backlight
    WQHD resolution, 2560 x 1440 at 60 Hz (Max)
    178°/178° ultra-wide viewing angle
    In-plane switching technology
    Customizable brightness from 50 to 350 cd/m²
    Factory calibrated color report
    More than 99% sRGB (deltaE < 5)
DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI, DVI and VGA and USB 3.0 ports
Pivot, tilt, swivel and height adjustable (115mm)
Arsenic-free glass and mercury-free LED panel
Why not the Apple Thunderbolt screen, well I prefer a non-reflective screen in the office, but If I can't do it with the Dell's can it be done with 2 27" Thunderbolt monitors from the 13" Macbook Pro?

    In a word, yes.
The video out capabilities for the 13" and 15" retina MBPs are the same.

  • Connecting two Dell Ultrasharp Monitors to Late 2014 Mac Mini

Hello, I want to connect another Dell UltraSharp Monitor, (identical), to my Mac Mini, late 2014 model. However, there's only one HDMI port, and two Thunderbolt ports, can I connect two monitors to this machine?

Yes. You can use the thunderbolt ports with either DVI or HDMI adapters to connect the screens to.

27 inch iMac to a 29 inch Dell Ultrasharp U2913WM monitor. What do I need to hook these two up?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That monitor has got a lot of ports you can use. The easiest and cheapest way to connect the iMac to the Dell monitor is through a Mini DisplayPort cable, because you do not need any adapter.
Another way you have is to connect it through HDMI. In this case, you need a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable

  • MBP + dual dell ultrasharp monitors?

    Hey All,
    Im running a 2013 MBP 15"
I was wondering if anyone knew if I could power the following two monitors:
    MBP
    + Dell UltraSharp U2412M 61cm (24") LED - Running Vertically 1200x1920
    + Dell UltraSharp U2713HM 69cm (27") LED -  Running Horizontally 2560x1440
    I was thinking:
    HDMI -> 24"
    Thundbolt/DVI -> 27"
Could anyone confirm if this will work?
    Thanks.
    Andy.

    The standard Nvidia 7300GT
will support up to one 30" display as well as a 24"
display. If you are looking for support for two 30"
displays you will need to upgrade to the ATi X1900 XT
otherwise the 7300 GT will be fine for all other
    combinations.
Ned I have 3 30inch Apple Cinema displays AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET A PROPER CABLE TO DRIVE THE OTHER TWO MONITORS! I HAVE THE NVIDIA QUATTRO 4500 CARD, BUT AM ONLY ABLE TO GET A POOR SIGNAL OVER 20FEET USING DUAL DVI-D CABLES. TRIED EVERTHING!

  • Macbook Late 2011 and Dell UltraSharp 29"

Hi! I have a Macbook 13" Late 2011 and i'm about to buy a Dell UltraSharp 29" (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2414974,00.asp). I would like to know if my Macbook will be able to support the maximum resolution 2560x1080. Anyone knows if the Minidisplay Port is enough to support the res? Or should i buy an adapter? Thanks for your time guys.

The last MacBook was a mid 2010 even though it was made into 2012. It will support a max resolution of 2560x1600 on a second display. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.4-white -13-polycarbonate-unibody-mid-2010-specs.html

  • Dell Ultrasharp 2707WFP 27" and G5

Hi there, hoping someone can help.
I am interested in the Dell Ultrasharp 2707WFP 27" widescreen LCD monitor but I need to know if it is compatible with my computer (I contacted Dell but they said to try the Apple forums). Here are the specs for my computer: 1.8GHz Power Mac G5, 1GB DDR400 SDRAM, 160GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm, *ATI Radeon 9600 Pro*, operating system is Mac OS 10.3.9.
    Thanks!!

Yes, it'll work just fine. That monitor only needs a single-link DVI port which your ATi Radeon 9600 will have.
The built-in card reader will also work, as long as you plug the monitor's USB plug into your Mac.
