It all depends upon how the battery has been used.  How many cycles has the battery gone through?  How often has the battery been totally discharged?  In 2.5 years, a battery can fail.  There is also the element of luck, where some batteries will fail sooner than others.
I suggest that you take you Macbook Pro to an Apple store for examination and possible battery replacement.
You may post this from your Macbook Pro for evaluation (System Information):
    Ciao.

    Hi,
    Google Translate
    Good Morning,
some days the Messaging application no longer works on my Macbook Pro 13 with Retina display.
When I open the app, it will not start: the bar on the top left is rendered unusable by the icon of the rainbow wheel, and does not open any window. The only option is to force quit the application. Even restarting the mac does not solve the problem.
The application works perfectly on my iPhone instead of 5; often happens that when I start the mac I hear the sound of receiving a msg and I get the message notification in the notification bar, but when I try to read the application does not start.
How can I fix the problem?

    Try a SMC reset:

If this is an original battery, even with a low cycle count, it is old and probably should be replaced.

  • TS1388 My battery on my macbook pro all of a sudden keeps using the battery power really quickly, so I am having to rechareg it constantly.  Does anyone know why this occurs or how to fix it.  I have used all the energy saving tips.

Hi My battery on my macbook pro keeps running low on power very quickly and I have to keep recharging it.  This has never happened before. I have used all the power saver options, but it keeps happening.  Can anyone help. The battery seems to be losing power even when it is turned off.

    Hi BigThinker,
How old is your Mac? If it is an older one, then the battery may just be dying. You can check by clicking on the Apple in the upper left-hand corner, then clicking on About This Mac>More Info>System Report, then click on Power (about half way down the list). At the top of the resulting display, you should see the following type of info:
The Health Information will tell you if your battery is going to need replacement soon. If it says Normal, then it is not the battery.
    Cheers,

  • Need new battery for my MacBook Pro!

Hi, I am just trying to figure out what exactly the replacement battery for my MacBook Pro is. It is a MacBookPro2,2 Intel Core 2 Duo. ASMB012 is the device name under battery info - but i can't find that info anywhere. Please help! dave

More specifically, since that Model ID is a 15" pre-unibody C2D, look HERE.

  • Can I change a new battery for my MacBook Pro 15' Retina? How?

Can I change a new battery for my MacBook Pro 15' Retina? How?

    Hi!
About a month ago, my MBPr 15", mid 2012 (Model Identifier10,1) showed, at first, Battery Service warning and on the next day X over the battery icon with Battery Not Available message in the status. MBP would run only and while the charger was plugged in, plug led would be always green, when connected. Battery test third party sw would not detect the battery, any longer.
Replacing upper case with battery/keyboard/trackpad, as per Apple,  in my country was too expensive, over 1000 USD, did't make any sense to me, so I've chosen DIY option (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLhHSIej9fs) with all necessary precautions like tools, ESD protection grounded pad in place and ordered "new" replacement battery from Hong Kong on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/400699766989?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STR K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT).
Yesterday I came in new packing/sealed, I installed it, plugged the power cable on, plug led would turn green and then orange, I thought it's ok, but once system booted, I saw again X over battery icon and "Battery Not Available". I checked all the hints on internet, tried several times SMC and EPRON resets, no success. I filed complaint to Ebay supplier, he replied that battery undergone test prior the shipment, but ready for return and refund.
So, I can make another try and buy the battery from Ebay but what if the problem is with my logic board? From one hand charger plug led lights orange when connected to MBP, on another hand System doesn't see the battery at all: No battery in the System info/Hardware/Power. it works absolutely fine when plugged-in to charger. I ran extended AHT (over pressed "D" key while powering on) twice with No Problem in return. So, my question is does it ultimately mean that Logic Board and power circuits are all fine and the whole thing is about "new bad" battery? I there any way to entirely test Logic board and narrow down problem origin?
Thank you for attention in advance,
    Nurlan

  • Battery Enquiry on Macbook Pro

My wife wants to purchase a new Macbook Pro 15 inch. She was impressed by the new "green" battery.
Her question is how long does the new battery last? Is the time frame 1 year or more? Also, since it's an internal battery and can't be taken out by users, when it does finally die and has to be replaced, does the dead battery harm an otherwise perfectly good computer? Has any heard what a replacement battery will cost for these new models?
We appreciate any feedback that folks can provide with regards to this enquiry.

    PugetSounder,
Like Kappy, I'm wondering if your wife wasn't referring to the ads for the new 17" Macbook Pro. If I am not mistaken, the 15" unibody Macbook Pro still uses removable batteries.
If your interest is the 17", with a non-user-removable battery: Apple has estimated that, given "average" use, the new batteries will last around 5 years. The replacement cost is $179 US (not $159).
The 15" Macbook Pro, like all Macbook Pros prior to the unibody models, uses a removable battery that is accessed through a panel underneath the computer (in the case of the earlier models, the battery is the panel). These batteries do not have anywhere near the charge capacity of the newest 17" Macbook Pro, so they will naturally endure more "cycles" during their lifetime. Consequently, that lifetime will be shorter.
How much shorter depends a great deal on how it is used. Unfortunately, it also depends somewhat on the "luck of the draw." This is just part of the nature of batteries; some will perform excellently for a long, long time. Others may die prematurely. Nevertheless, Apple has published clear-cut standards by which a battery's performance over time can be measured. If a particular battery doesn't measure up, Apple will replace it, free of charge (this is in addition coverage under warranty).
A dead battery will not harm the computer, but I really doubt one would get to that point. Long before a battery could be considered absolutely "dead," one would undoubtedly be seeking a replacement. As a battery ages, its ability to store and hold a charge diminishes. This is a gradual process, and at some point in this progression, the too-short length of computing time provided by the battery would be unacceptable.

  • How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

How do i know if I need to replace the battery in my MacBook Pro?

There are a few ways (none of which are covered in the above link). On more recent OS X versions, when you click the battery icon in the menu bar you may see a "Service Battery" or "Replace Now" message. If you aren't seeing that, the system probably thinks the battery is fine.
Also, in your System Information utility, there is a Power section that provides Health information for the battery, with a Condition status and Cycle Count. If the Condition is Normal and your battery is under 300 cycles (for removable batteries) or 1000 cycles (for non-removable batteries) it is not time to replace it yet.
But of course, the other time to replace it is if you don't think you're getting the runtime you want out of it.
If none of those is a problem, don't worry about it.

You should perform this procedure when you first use your computer? is this true? new macbook pro on may 11 2010 what happed was today on may 22 2010 i wanted to calibrate the battery my new macbook pro turns off when it runs out of battery. 3 times Typically, when macs run out of battery, they go into sleep mode. However mine skips this completely and just turns off. WHY? does this mean the battery is bad?
Resetting the PRAM (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html) fixed the problem in my case. then i did the calibrate the battery again this time it went to sleep not shut down i did this 3 more times why?
the 3 forced shut downs without entering SafeSleep. with logs indicating improper shutdown, will that cause severe corruption to the os and do i have to reinstall the os now?2.66 ghz 2010

the 9 more 4 in 10.6.4 forced shut downs without entering SafeSleep. with logs indicating improper shutdown, will that cause severe corruption to the os and do i have to reinstall the os now?2.66 ghz 2010 but if it happens again you should try
i hate to do this reinstalling the OS, if this do not work also, then you should call apple, or take your MBP to an apple store. on june 24 2010 i am going to talk to spence about this. so what do i do now? this happed on june 16 2010 4 more times
without entering SafeSleep. only one time it worked on 10.6.4

  • Is it possible to virtually bypass the battery on a macbook pro (retina 2014) and power the mac directly via AC power?

Is it possible to virtually bypass the battery on a macbook pro (retina 2014) and power the mac directly via AC power?
E.g. Dell allows you to plug the laptop into AC power but prevent battery charging.
Note: I do not want to physically remove the battery.
If there isn't an option on Mac OS, is there anything I can download to bypass the battery when I want?

Thanks for linking me! Wow I had no idea the clock speed would be cut so severely! What a bunch of rubbish, as if the AC won't provide enough power!
I guess the only solution to my question would be an app which virtually disconnects the battery but tricks the mac into thinking the battery is still connected. I'm just surprised Apple haven't yet started to build prisons for the government - considering how well they lock up their software and hardware!
