Same Apple ID but no syncing needed

Hi, I have one iPhone and an iPad (and an iMac and macbook pro).
My kids have iPhone's , Ipads on Ipod toches.
I would like to be able to locate their phones, and use some of the bought apps on all of the devices, so the appleId is the same on all devices.
But I do not want to share my address book, my calendar and photos with all of them, and they don^t want to do so with their 'private' data.
How can I do this ?
Is there any possibility to share only Appstore and i-Tunes related items all together, and individually share data using iCloud only between several decices.
Ie, i would like to use my iPhone and iPad to share my data using my iCould, one of hte kids having an iPhone and Ipod touch want to use theur icloud , an other one his iphone and his Ipad etc ?
Wouldn't it be a good idea to set up a kind of master account, being able to define which device should sync with which other etc.
How could this be achieved ?

you cant use imessage and facetime if you do
all your sms's would be sendt to them too
but unless you handle sync over icloud then contacts and calenders sycned are not handled by the appleID but
what you set it to when you click the info tab in itunes on the computer they are connected to

  • Same Apple ID but different emails

First off, some info about my situation...I have a 4S, iPad 2 and MBP. I am the only one in my household that has iOS5 and can therefore use iCloud. When I was going through signup for iCloud, it asked for an existing Apple ID, so I used my iTunes account one (a Gmail address) and it then created a me.com email. So far, so good.
Like many, I then thought it'd much easier if I could just use the new me.com address for everything Apple related from now on, so I tried to change the email address associated with my Apple ID to the me.com address...but no joy, as I kept getting the you can't use a MobileMe account etc. message (even though I've never had one!). I then noticed that somehow (I guess when I used my existing Apple ID to join iCloud) my me.com address was already listed as an alternate email for my Apple ID.
I can log in to all things Apple related using either email address (although iTunes still shows my Gmail address even if I log in using the me.com address).
Apple support files recommend that most users use the same Apple ID for both iTunes and iCloud. Am I right in thinking that as the 2 email addresses are linked and are the same Apple ID that it won't make any difference what email I use for either (so if I wanted I could use the me.com for iCloud as my "Apple ID" and the Gmail for iTunes, or vice versa or even use one for both)?
Secondly, I'd like to use the new me.com address I created for FaceTime and iMessage...I have signed into FaceTime on OS X using the me.com address and on my 4S, under their respective setting I've also done this (plus I've put the me.com address for "You can be reached for video calls at"). Can people FaceTime etc. only if they know my me.com address or can they also use my Gmail address, seeing as they are the same Apple ID? I also realise that I can also add my Gmail address as an alternate for FaceTime and iMessages but do I need to, as again they are the same Apple ID?
Sorry for the long winded post but thought it best to give as much as info as possible and hope it's written clearly!

You can have the same Apple Id, but you do need to have different email addresses for the "You can be Reached by Facetime At" section under settings.
If that is o.k, then make sure the email address you set for each device is the one being used to initiate the facetime call.
If your facetime call is initiated using the email from the Apple ID its effectively like calling yourself.

  • When my husband set up his new iPhone I read a message wrong when it popped up on my phone and now our messaging is synced. Is it because we have the same apple ID? Do we need to change that?

Yes, its best to have each individual apple ids. You can also go to settings, messages, send and recieve, start new conversation from, make sure there is a check mark beside each of your own individual email, not the same one on each phone.

  • I want to Facetime my Ipad from my Iphone but they are both set up with the same Apple id.  Do I need to create a new id for one of them in order to facetime with the other?

You should be able to call the iPad using your Apple ID from the iPhone. When calling from iPad use the iPhone's phone number to initiate the call.

  • I recently purchased a new mac computer and would like to sync the music off my iPhone to my new mac. However, my phone and my new mac have different apple Ids.The PC which my phone is synced and has the same apple ID but does not let me transfer the music

Hi I recently purchased a new mac computer and would like to sync the music off my iPhone to my new mac. However, my phone and my new mac have different apple Ids.The PC which my phone is synced and has the same apple ID but does not let me transfer the music. Home sharing is not working. How do I successfully transfer and sync the music off my ipone 4 to my mac book pro if they have different Apple IDs? Thanks!

What do you mean the PC won't let you transfer the music? Save your entire iTunes folder (this is assuming that you have all your music stored in your iTunes folder) to an external hard drive. Connect that hard drive to your Mac. Copy the iTunes folder to your computer. Hold down the option key while launching iTunes on your Mac. Select the library you just copied when it ask you to select which library you want to open.

  • How can I use 2 iPhone 4's on same iTunes account, but NOT sync same contacts?

How can I use 2 iPhone 4's on same iTunes account, but NOT sync same contacts?

They need to be registered under different Apple ID's.  The initial Apple ID is set when you first start the phone up.  If you've already registered the phone to the iTunes account, back it up to your computer, and then have iTunes do a factory reset.  Go to www.icloud.com, log in with your current Apple ID, select "Find My iPhone," choose the iPhone you want to dissociate from your primary Apple ID from the upper left, and then click the little circled X ("remove").
When you start the phone, it will have you go through the setup process again, at which time you need to create a unique Apple ID for the device.  You can then restore it from your iTunes backup to get back your apps and other settings.
Whenever you use the iTunes store, use the login information (Apple ID and password) that you were using before.  Basically, the second Apple ID that you created is purely used for accessing iCloud services, which includes synchronization of contacts, iCal events, and other such things.

  • We have 2 iphone 4. Not upgraded to OSI5. We share the same Apple id to buy, etc. How can we set up the same Apple id but a diiferent icloud id and still see both iphones on find my iphone?

My wife and I both have iPhone 4 phones. Neither of them have been upgraded to OSI 5. We share the same Apple ID to buy things, etc. We are planning to buy an iphone 4s for our daughter next month. We would all like to share the same Apple id so that we can make purchases from the same account ... that way we only fund one account. We would like to upgrade to OSI 5 and keep/share the same Apple id but be able to set up different iCloud accounts for when we sync our phones. How can we do that? One other thing, we like being able to fine our locations on the same screen (and would add our daughter) using Find My Phone. Can we still do that? Thanks in advance for your help.

You could and should set up different iCloud accounts in "Settings > iCloud", so that every user has its own email account, calendars, reminders, notes, storage for backups and app data (files etc.), by the way everyone could also use his own account for iMessage (Settings > Messages > Send & Receive) and FaceTime (Settings > FaceTime) so that you all could write and call each other.
Next the Apple ID for music, apps and other media: You all could just set up the ssame Apple ID in "Settings > iTunes & App Stores" for all your media purchases like songs, movies, apps etc.

  • I have an iPhone 4 that i was trying to fix and now it will not turn on at all is there anyway that i can access all my pictures and contacts from my new phone or pc? It is also on the same apple id, but i dont know if that would help with anything.

I have an iPhone 4 thats i was trying to fix and now it will not turn on at all is there anyway that i can access my pictures and contacts from my new phone or pc? Aslo the are both on the same apple id but i dont know if that would help or not.

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes?  If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.

  • 2 iphones 1 computer. updated my wifes phone to ios 5 her phone got wiped of all apps and all my contacts are on her phone. we had been using the same apple id but different user accounts on our laptop. How do i get her phone back to normal?

2 iphone 4, 1 computer. i upgraded to ios 5 and just updated my wifes phone as well. her phone got wiped of all apps and all my contacts were put on her phone. we had been using the same apple id but different user acct on our laptop. How do i get her phone back to normal??

Have your wife log in to her user account on the laptop. Launch iTunes, then connect her phone to the computer with the USB cable. Sync. That should put back all apps and media. Since you already upgraded her to iOS 5 she'll have to manually enter all her settings and preferences, and organize her home screens.

  • HT5624 My husband, myself & our 2 daughters all use the same Apple ID but w different user names. Is this a potential problem?

4 members of my family use the same Apple ID but different user names
Is this a potential problem w privacy etc?

Since the Apple ID does not have a username, I suppose you mean different e-mail-adresses?
In theory, this is not a problem, but of course it can be difficult if you want to keep things separated. For example, logging in with you Apple ID will automatically set up iCloud and sync your calendar, reminder, notes, mails etc. You can disable this syncing on your daughter's devices, but then they won't be able to use functionalities unless they create their own accounts (for example set up another email account). I think (but I am not 100% on this) they will be able to create reminders/notes etc. locally on the iphone.
If you mean app-wise or legal-wise: No, this is not an issue. You can use your Apple ID and the apps you bought on up to five different devices. Still, for simplicities sake and to give everyone their share of privacy I personally would suggest different IDs for everyone.

  • HT1535 I own an iPhone4, an iPod 3rd generation and an iPad 2. I use the same iTunes library but unfortunately synced iPad with a different computer before syncing to my own. Do I risk losing the films/apps I've downloaded onto my iPad if I sync with my i

I don't want to sync what is on my iPod to my iPad. (I have a 32gb iPod but only 16gb on iPad. The iPod I use mostly for music.) I can't seem to add the films I have downloaded onto iPad to iTunes. If I could do that, I could erase them from iPad to create more storage.
    This is intensely confusing, sorry.

    Question.....
"I own an iPhone4, an iPod 3rd generation and an iPad 2. I use the same iTunes library but unfortunately synced iPad with a different computer before syncing to my own. Do I risk losing the films/apps I've downloaded onto my iPad if I sync with my iPod?"
    Answer.....
Yes you will lose the films that you downloaded to the iPad when you sync with your own iTunes unless you transfer the purchases into your own iTunes library. Were these movies that you purchased? If so, you might be able to download them again for free. Do you have multiple computers that you sync from or is this someone else's purchased content?
You can select whatever you want to sync to all of your devices in iTunes, you do not have to sync the same content to all device.

    Hi Jamesdwills,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If you are using the same Apple ID on both devices, the Game Center profile should be the same.
Check out this information from the iPad User Guide.  Try signing out of the Game Center on both devices and then sign back in with the correct Apple ID:
