Same Apple ID on multiple devices?

I have 2 iPhones, an iPad, a Macbook and an iMac. All w/ the latest softwares.
But there's some confusing stuff going on w/ Facetime.
What's the best way to "separate" these devices, so they can all use Face Time w/ each other, and other people?
I DO NOT want to assign separate Apple IDs to all of these devices. I want the same Apple ID to purchase apps for the family, etc.
TIA

For the 2 iphones you will use their telephone numbers as their calling id's, even though you'll probably be using wifi to communicate with them.  For devices without telephone numbers, obviously your macs and ipad, you'll need to use an individual e-mail address assigned to each of them.  I usually advise people to generate e-mails through yahoo or gmail, or some other provider you feel comfortable with.
If you use the same e-mail address for your ipad and macs, they will not be able to call each other, but you will be able to talk to other devices that are not associated with your id/single e-mail.  (I believe the Iphones would work though)
One more thing: you will need to add the new e-mails to your Apple Id.  In that regard, I'm including an Apple link which will help you. An important step is making sure you verify each new e-mail that you add.  So for you it seems that you'll need to click on the link which states, " adding an e-mail address that is not associated with an Apple ID." Again, you can setup the iphones to work with FT using their phone numbers.

  • Same apple id for multiple devices

I have been use the same apple id for multiple devices (both are iPhones running iOS 6 - one is a 4, the other a 4S.) I'd like to sync separate content for each device using the same instance of iTunes (iTunes V 10.7 installed on MacBook running OS X 10.6.8.) Can I assign the second device a separate apple id in odrer to differentiate the content? Thanks for your assistance!

No, a second Apple ID will not work. iTunes can already tell them apart.
When you connect the first iPhone to iTunes, check and uncheck the things you want and Sync.
Do the same with the second iPhone.

Can I use the same Apple ID for multiple devices?

Yes. Up to five devices can be authorized on a single computer using the same Apple ID. You can also use the same Apple ID on multiple devices is they are all going to use the same iTunes Library by the same user. But it's ill-advised if multiple users are involved who wish to keep their devices separate from the devices belonging to other users.
How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer
Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.

  • HT204053 using same apple id on multiple devices

Can you set up multiple devices(iphone, itouch, ipad) with the same apple id?

I have four devices using my Apple ID and I have all four setup to use messages and FaceTime on all of them by using different email addresses as the "contact at" email address.
Go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached for iMessages at>Add another email address. She can add her personal email address. Apple will verify it - it will say "verifying". Go the inbox of that email account and respond to Apple's email in order to complete the verification process.
Then go back to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached for iMessages at>Uncheck your email address as the contact address and check hers to select it as the contact address.
Do the same thing in the FaceTime settings in the appropriate fields.

  • USING THE SAME APPLE ID ON MULTIPLE DEVICES

I recently bought my wife an ipad. Up till now we've just been using one ID for the whole family on the home computer, but when she sends imessages from her ipad it come up as being from me (the account is in my name). Is there a way to have 2 seperate people on the account, or does she just need ot start one herself. I worry by doing that, that all the apps she has won't be accesible to her anymore, nor the shared itunes library. I'd like her ot be able to use facetime when she's travelling too.

  • HT204380 Is there a way of using the same FaceTime account on multiple devices?

Is there a way of using the same FaceTime account on multiple devices?

Yes you can use the same Apple ID on multiple devices and FaceTime with each one. You have to associate a different email address on all but one of the devices.
Lets say you have two iPads and two iPods..... All sharing the same Apple ID. When you set up FaceTime on three of the devices, you have to associate another mail address in Settings>FaceTime>You can be reached for Video calls at>Add Another email address. Add a different email address in that setting and let Apple verify the address.
After that email address has been verified by Apple (they send you an email to that address so look for it in the inboxes of that email account and follow the instructions in the email), then remove the Apple ID email address on each of those three devices. You can use the primary Apple ID email on the fourth device.
Obviously, you have to have additional email addresses but you can set up free email accounts with AOL, Yahoo, gmail .... and you can use the email address just for FaceTime if you like.

  • I am using my Apple ID on multiple devices for other people. How can I make icloud work only for my devices?

I am using my Apple ID on multiple devices for other people in my family and now I am getting a new iphone and want to take only the information on my old iphone to the new one without the information on the other devices using the same account. Is there a way to do that?
Also, for the future can I use multiple addresses and apple IDs for the same credit card information?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marian

Ok, so you want to remove data (contacts, bookmarks, calendar etc) from other users from your iCloud/Apple ID?
If you want to use your ID for your family because it is the account everybody uses to buy stuff then you only need to ensure that your apple ID is set up in the store (settings-store) and then the users of each device and put their own apple ID in icloud/message/facetime/etc.
To set up your device, in my opinion, it is best to back up to itunes, and then plug your new device into itunes and "set up as ..." and select the backup from your device.  This will import all your data/settings and your new device will be set up just like your old one.
I am not certain about using the same payment method for more than one account.

  • HT204053 I am using my apple ID on multiple devices

I am using my apple ID on multiple devices, i.e. 3 iPhones, 4 iPads, MacAir, MacPro etc....Up until today we have been able to use FaceTime on any device to contact each other. Today for some reason we can no longer faceTime each other from any of our devices. For the iPhones the only 2 selections we have chosen are the cell number for the iPhone and our Apple ID. This is the same for our iPads. We are able to iMessage with no problem. These settings have been working for the last several years. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I was able to use FaceTime perfectly fine across multiple devices on one Apple ID, but as of the 15th or 16th can't get it to work on any device.

  • I have one apple ID for multiple devices in my family.  I'd like to keep it that way for itunes/app purchases.  I would like a simple step 1, step 2, step 3 response on what I need to do to separate all other features like imessage, contacts, emails, etc.

I have one apple ID for multiple devices in my family.  I'd like to keep it that way for itunes/app purchases.  I would like a simple step 1, step 2, step 3 response on what I need to do to separate all other features like imessage, contacts, emails, etc.
I have been reasearching how to do this on the internet, but I haven't found an easy explanation yet.  My family is going crazy over each others imessages being sent to others in the family and not being able to use FaceTime because of conflicting email addresses.  I have read that if each person gets their own iCloud account, this would work.  However, I need to know what to do after I set everyone up with their own iCloud account.  Do I make that the default email address to be contacted or can they still use their hotmail email addresses.  Any help- with easy explanation- would be much appreciated!!

We do this in my family now.  We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores).  Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud.  That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup.  That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice.  You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.
In answer to what iCloud does for you: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response.  What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures.  Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures.  1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.

  • HT201084 My family shares one Apple ID on multiple devices.  How do I switch everyone over to their own Apple ID without having to erase their iphones and ipads?

My family currently shares one Apple ID on multiple devices and has for quite awhile.  How do I switch everyone over to their own Apple ID and the Family Sharing without having to erase their iphones and ipads?

Thank you again for your time, GB.
I set up individual Apple ID's for my children so that they could have their own Apple ID on their individual iPad minis (gifts from grandparents last year).  When I go to iCloud under Settings, I see my Apple ID listed at the top, then my children's listed under Family Sharing.  So the device is still using my Apple ID for iCloud, iTunes, etc., correct?
To "assign" their own Apple ID to their own iPad mini, I would need to "Sign Out" from my Apple ID.  When I attempt to do so, I receive a warning that all of the Documents and Data will be lost/deleted.
So, instead of doing this, I figured out that I could do what you suggested.  Signing in using a child's Apple ID will allow her/him to use Game Center, FaceTime, and Messages just fine.  However, using their Apple ID for iTunes & App Store proved to be a problem:  Purchased Music and Movies appeared in iTunes, but my Purchased Apps did not appear.  Some Apps even disappeared, e.g. Proloquo4Text (a $99 app to help my son speak with his iPad).
So I reverted to using my Apple ID for iTunes & App Store, and I get everything that I want, EXCEPT for the iCloud storage for each Apple ID.
So that's when I started wondering how Family Sharing was really benefiting me ~ It was a lot of work (deleting apps to allow space to download iOS 8, etc) without any benefit that I can see.  UNLESS I find a means to allow me to sign in each iPad's iCloud account with a different AppleID, then perhaps restore the Documents and Data from a backup?  Would that work?
    Thanks.

The Apple ID purpose is to have the same data in all your devices and share your purchases among all your devices, so you can use your Apple ID in both devices

  • Using the same Apple ID on 2 devices - 1 set to UK Store, 1 set to US store

Hi, I live in the United States and am trying to set up my iPad on a UK DNS server so that I can watch British TV using the BBC iPlayer app. In order to download the BBC iPlayer app I need to use the UK iTunes store. I am also using the same Apple ID on my iPhone, iMac and MacBook which I all want to stay on the United States store setting.
Is it possible to use the same Apple ID on these devices set to different store locations?
I have store credit in my US iTunes store on my iPad which is preventing me from just switching over to the UK store.
Essentially, I want my iPad to think it's in the UK using the UK Store, and all my other devices to stay thinking they're in the US and operating normally, using the same Apple ID.
    Thanks in advance

To download an item from the UK store you have to be here in the UK and have a UK billing address - otherwise you are violating the store's terms and potentially your account could be disabled.
Your balance and other account info is tied to your account not the device, it will be the same on each computer/device that you log into it with.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Only one of your libraries needs to use your iTunes Store Apple ID for home sharing. Your other computers can use their own ID for iTunes, so long as they use the same ID as all of the devices on the network for home sharing.
