Same Artist Listed Multiple times on iPod..

Before anyone tells me about changing the artist info of the song, I know about that. The problem is not the file info, I haven't changed the artist's info in about 6 months but all of sudden, on my iPod only not iTunes, the same artist is listed about 10 times. I only have one album of the artist on my iPod, and like I said the files haven't been edited in months. I know its not a serious problem, but it is annoying scrolling through the same artist and I am hoping my iPod is becoming corrupted. Anyone experience the same problem?

I've unchecked the artist, synced, and as expected they go from the ipod.
I check them back on and they appear 3 times again after syncing.
The only thing I have yet to do is a total restore. But with 60gigs of video audio and photos, its a bit of a pain!
Im getting very wary of these Itunes updates, remember the infamous -48 error that had every one baffled for about a month?
In my case the artist in question is New Order. I've renamed all my NO tracks to New Order2 as the artist, synced and the artist comes up twice!
I've renamed them back to 'New Order' and clicked on 'Album artist' to be 'New Order' also and re synced and I get back 3 in the list!!!

All the artist/album/track information is listed correctly but on Itunes and on the Ipod it will list it seperately instead of together. Anyone know how to fix that?

You need to make sure the artist name is spelt in an identical manner on every track. Even an extra space at the end of the name that you might not notice can make a difference. Try this even if everything looks the same. Sort your iTunes library by artist to bring your tracks together. Click on the first track by your artist, hold down the shift key and click on the last track in the list, this will highlight all in between. Right click on the list and choose Get Info, you get a dialogue box asking if you want to update multiple items, click Yes. If you see the "artist" field is left blank, then there is a discrepancy with that name. Overtype the artist name then click ok and this will ensure the whole selection is identical. Once you've done this connect your iPod, if you are updating automatically it will pick up the changes. If you are updating manually follow the instructions above with the iPod connected and carry out the changes directly on the iPod's song list.
If the name is not the issue, try this. Highlight all the songs for that artist, right click on them and select "apply sort field/same artist".

I got my ipod touch 5thgen today and when i sync my music to the ipod i noticed a few artist are listed more than once like for etc Pitbull and underneath again Pitbull exactly the same but like some songs are in one like half an album then there is the other half in the bottom listing for the artist this has happend with a fair few artists it seems to split them if that makes sense. Id be super wrapped if anyone can help me fix it its driving me nutz

Same doc lists multiple times in Finder

When I search for a document in Finder, it will list that document a hundred times. The same document, with a date next to it. As if it has to list every time I've opened it. I just want the document and all that noise makes it confusing. THere arent' multiple versions are there?
The other thing I hate is that I search for a document, and I put in the EXACT title of the document. It will give a list of a million files that have nothing to do with the document I am looking for. Files from apps, all kinds of crap.
Is there a setting or something to make Finder work better? Because right now, it really is kinda ridiculous the way it's working on my computer.

I have a 30 gig Ipod. The artist menu lists the same artist multiple times. How do I remove the multiple?

Same album listed multiple times

I have songs from the same album but they are listed as seperate albums so the cover art flow has numerious albums that are the same.

Try filling in the Album Artist for all tracks, and make sure that the Album and Artist fields are identical for all the tracks.

I have ripped all of my Cds into iTune, now I cannot find where some of the artists have been filled, not all the artists are listed, yet others are listed multiple times as they play with other groups. How do I list all one artist under his name? I know

Sorry this will appear pretty basic stuff. I have ripped all my Cds into iTunes, but in starting to make playlists it is apparent that some artists are listed multiple times as they appear with different bands, and others do not appear at all. I have tried searching different categories, compilations etc, and Finder box does not bring them up.
My questions are:-
Do I need additional software to manipulate my tunes in iTunes?
If so what is suggested?
or if not:-
How can I re arrange the tunes so that they appear only under one artist?
How do I make my "lost" artists tunes appear?

I am not really following what the problem is here. Artists are listed in the Artist field. I guess you could stick individual artists in a band in a field such as comments, but then you would have to include searching the comments field in your search. In which fields are these names located?
How are you making these playlists? Are these smart playlists or are you just dragging tracks to a playlist?
Are you doing this search with Finder's find or with iTunes' search?
If I knew exactly what it was you were trying to do I could tell you if you need addditional software. In reality though there isn't "additional software" for iTunes. There's Applescript plugins but I don't see how the ones with which I am familiar would have anything to do with searching for artist names.

Quick answer: Select all the tracks on the album, File > get info, and either give them all a single "album artist", or check the "compilation" flag (as in https://discussions.apple.com/message/17670085).
If these are from multiple-CD sets you may also need to enter the appropriate information in the disc number fields.

IPhone 6 plus list same music genre multiple times

I Finally got my iPhone 6 plus delivered today but while synching with itunes 12.0.1 version I ran into an annoying problem. Every thing synced great (photos, videos etc.) except my music. I have around 8 genres of music but one of them is listed 5 times on my phone now. The songs in this genre aren't listed multiple times in the song list though. I've deleted all my music from my phone and resynced but everytime the same genre pops up multiple times. Anyone experienced this before that may have a solution for me? If creating a new user account for the second iPhone is not possible, Apple offers two other methods for adding an additional unit. You can maintain two iPhones on one account by maintaining separate iTunes playlists, or you can create a new iTunes library and sync each iPhone's media files independently. Be aware, however, that these methods separate only the media files such as podcasts, music and video files.

I had created additional Apple ID for use in itunes so its actually not what i need because I want all data to be independent but the music files to be shared.
I didn't print screen the error msg. It's sort of say the apps and some files cant run on my current iphone a newer version is needed. "Find my iphone" cant work too on both phones ... then i plug in my iphone 6 plus after sync...things are not updated. There is this endless cycle of reset up my new iphone 6 plus everytime I sync my iphone 6 plus with the same itunes.
What i need is for the iphones to be independent but they are now linked. I only want the music to be shared.
Regards to iCloud back up....I have stopped all back-up because phone 1 is replacing phone 2 information....

The thing is, they aren't just different songs which has slight variations in the spelling of the artist, whichever copy of the artist you choose, they all lead to the same songs. And no, there aren't multiple copies of the songs on my iPod and the same thing does not happen in iTunes.

I have the same problem! Black 30 GB 5th gen iPod, OS X. I've updated all the software, restored it etc. Again, they all lead to the same song. Same problem as described above. Please help!

Album Listed Multiple Times

I just got the 120 gb iPod Classic (I was using the 5th Gen. 30 gb video before) and when I finally got it to sync I saw that some of my albums are listed multiple times on the iPod...it's weird because they aren't listed that way on iTunes...ant suggestions?

Excuse the long post, but hopefully covering all the bases (that I can think of) will help you fix the other issues you are likely to run into as you try to organise your library.
*Use an album friendly view*
iTunes will let you sort music on many columns, some of which are unlikely to group albums together. The most useful order for editing the library is *Album by Artist*. If you're not already there, select the list view and click on the column heading for Artist until it reads Album by Artist.
*One cover, too many tracks*
The iPod (and iTunes to a lesser extent) conflates two or more albums with the same title, most obviously with *Greatest Hits*. On the iPod this can result in one album acting as a combination of two or more. Selecting any cover gives all the tracks of all albums with the same title. The workaround for this "Greatest Hits" bug is to give each album a unique title - I tend to go for *Album - Album Artist* as this reads clearly in the iTunes browser. Alternatively you could use the wording as it appears on the cover, append different numbers of spaces for each different album or set different values for the Sort Album.
*Album not with others by same artist*
iTunes relies on the Gracenote CDDB database when identifying CD's. This often marks collections or anthologies of an artist's work as a compilation. In iTunes, however, the compilation flag has the logical function of grouping together tracks with the same album name, but different artists on each track, e.g. "Now That's What I Call Metal 666!". These compilations are then all grouped together at the end of cover flow. Most of us however, would expect "Greatest Hits" albums to be listed with the other albums by the same album artist. For albums which are essentially by a single album artist or group it is best to set the appropriate value for the album artist and clear the compilation flag.
*One album, too many covers*
Sadly the iPod ignores the Album Artist field when grouping albums which causes problems when some tracks list guest artists. You can simply mark the entire album as a compilation which seems to be the way iTMS handles it, however that's not an ideal fix. Short of waiting for Apple to address this issue (and as far as I can tell it goes back to the 1st gen. of iPods) we need a workaround. What I do is to put any additional artist info. in square brackets after the song name. E.g. *Track \[Feat. Guest\]* and then set *Artist=Album Artist* for each track. For anthologies where the Album Artist is credited as part of another group, e.g. for Cream tracks on an Eric Clapton anthology, I use *Track \[As Group\]*. For a track where the main Album Artist doesn't receive a credit, e.g. the first track of the Slim Shady LP credited to Jeff Bass, I just set the track name to *Track \[Guest\]* while still setting the artist to the album artist. N.b. I use square brackets to indicate this is not part of the actual song title and also use this style for Mix/Live/Bonus info.
*One album, still too many covers*
iTunes may split albums into two or more sections if some tracks from the album have different values for Artist, Album Artist, Album, No. of Discs or Part of a Compilation. Tiny differences such as trailing spaces, accented characters or variants of symbols can sometimes be quite hard to spot. The iPod is also more sensitive to case variations and may split or reorder an album that looks okay in iTunes. Normally overtyping the desired value for each shared field will complete the grouping of the album into one entity. Occasionally, however, this method seems to fail. When this happens I've found that you can force every field to update properly by adding some extra text - e.g. a trailing X, which once applied seems to complete the joining of the tracks into one album. Once this has happened the extra data can be removed and the album should remain properly grouped.
*I've tried that, there are STILL too many covers*
The Sort Artist, Sort Album & Sort Album Artist fields can be used to override the normal sort order. For example iTunes automatically drops leading prepositions (a/an/the) so "The Beatles" are arranged under "B" instead of "T". Occasionally different tracks from the same album can have different values in these sort fields which can also break up the grouping. Making the sort columns visible in iTunes can help with spotting & correcting such problems.
*One cover for multi-disc albums*
Multi-disc albums are often listed as *Album (CD1)* for CD 1, *Album (CD2)* for CD 2 etc. To display these properly using just one cover, each disc should hadve the correct *Disc X of Y* values set, and then the entire album should be given the single title Album. Being somewhat obsessive I also renumber the tracks sequentially, working backwards from the last track until I reach disc 1.
*One artist, many names*
With some artists, particularly classical composers, you should be aware of alternative representations of their names. E.g. 2Pac vs. Tupac. The menus will work best if for each artist you standardise on just one form of their name. E.g. make a choice between Mozart, W.A. Mozart or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and then apply it consistently. For classical music I tend also to use the Composer as the Artist & Album Artist and either discard the performer details or place these into the Comments field.

Also, this is my first foray into online chat rooms so I have a lot to learn to precisely state my issue! I did as you suggested and all the songs list the same album when I go into each song's "get info". However, I am not sure how to edit as you suggested. When I downloaded this album originally, for some reason it broke up into several albums each with different songs from the original album. I am trying to consolidate them back into one album in my library. I would greatly appreciate further assistance if you can. Also, I do not use "the cloud" to store any data and would like a good source of info on how to do this. Thanks so much for your patience!

I keep on receiving the same text message multiple times and at around the same time each night. Any idea how I can stop this happening? The text messages are originating from to separate Saudi Arabian mobile numbers. Both these people are listed in my contacts so do you think if I delete their names it might stop the texts coming htrough each night?

Deleting the people from your contacts will not stop the messages. Have you tried talking to the people and finding out if they're sending you messages? You could try contacting your carrier and finding out what blocking services they offer. However, theat would block all messages from those people.

Re: Running the same (Forte) application multiple times -for different

We had the same problem - how to deploy a number of identical applications, using each their own db.
(for training).
The solution we used is to wrap the entire application into different applications by using a very small
module called KURSUS01, KURSUS02 etc, that did nothing but call the start procedure of the main app.
Then in the dbsession connect, we made a call appname to get the application name, and appended the
first 8 chars to the dbname. Thus our dbnames now points to logicals name: rdbdataKURSUS01, rdbdataKURSUS02 etc.
All this allows us to deploy the identical apps in the same env, or change one version, and run both the old
and new program on the same pc and server at the same time (eg. KURSUS01 and KURSUS02).
I also think this is a kludge - but it works nicely!

can't dynamically name SOs so can it be done at all? (ResourceMGRs maybe?)
Option2:
Use separate environments! One for each business client.
Pro:
More defined separation of app and data,
SLA-easy
Con:
Maintain "n" number of environments
Can only run the application for one environment (business client) at a time
on one PC - Big Negative here!
Not knowing any feasible solution to option 1 (without much code changes and
developer moaning) I would go for option two; as I have already worked on
multi-environment setups on VMS back at the Hydro (hi guys).
I would appreciate any comments from anyone who has solved this problem.

We had the same problem - how to deploy a number of identical applications, using each their own db.
(for training).
The solution we used is to wrap the entire application into different applications by using a very small
module called KURSUS01, KURSUS02 etc, that did nothing but call the start procedure of the main app.
Then in the dbsession connect, we made a call appname to get the application name, and appended the
first 8 chars to the dbname. Thus our dbnames now points to logicals name: rdbdataKURSUS01, rdbdataKURSUS02 etc.
All this allows us to deploy the identical apps in the same env, or change one version, and run both the old
and new program on the same pc and server at the same time (eg. KURSUS01 and KURSUS02).
I also think this is a kludge - but it works nicely!

We have a number of different business clients all willing to use our
application.
The (forte) application is to run on our machines etc for these (business)
clients.
All (business) clients will have their data kept in separate Oracle DBs
(instance).
The problem now is that the entire (forte) application is written using
DBSessions.
Now, depending on what business client needs to be serviced (so to speak) we
need to attach to the right DB - or use the "right" SO.
The two options we can think of are:
Option1:
Programatic change to somehow "know" what (business) client (DB) I'm talking
about and then use the right DB.
Pro:
Only one forte environment to maintain
Can run multiple (business) clients on same PC at the same time
Con:
Requires many program changes
bending O-O rules(?)
can't dynamically name SOs so can it be done at all? (ResourceMGRs maybe?)
Option2:
Use separate environments! One for each business client.
Pro:
More defined separation of app and data,
SLA-easy
Con:
Maintain "n" number of environments
Can only run the application for one environment (business client) at a time
on one PC - Big Negative here!
Not knowing any feasible solution to option 1 (without much code changes and
developer moaning) I would go for option two; as I have already worked on
multi-environment setups on VMS back at the Hydro (hi guys).
I would appreciate any comments from anyone who has solved this problem.
How, Why Pro Con etc.
