Same computer, same ipod, no library or playlists in iTunes

Okay, I'm not sure what category this falls under, but I was trying to move my iTunes library to another location so my brother could share my computer using his own personal ipod. I did everything it told me to do and I consolidated the library like it said, and now when I click on a song in my music section of iTunes, it says it can't find the original file and do I want to look for it. So then I follow the instructions on how to move the folder back into my iTunes, but only a 1/4 of the songs showed up, I have no tv shows, no purchases (and there were many), no playlists, and it looks like I am going to have to start all over. All the old songs and tv shows are still on the ipod, but it won't let me move files from the ipod back to the library, and all of my playlists are still gone. I am so confused and I have done everything that these help pages have said to do, and since I can't talk to a real person, I don't know what to do. And my ipod is my lifeline that keeps me sane. Pleeeeeeease if anyone knows what I can do besides spending another 3 weeks importing my cds and repurchasing my purchased songs, I would be so grateful.
5th generation Windows XP

I have pretty much just the basic apps that are installed by default on a MacBook. iTunes, QT, etc.
Then moving on to the next level, what are your "Energy Saver" settings? My computer is set to "never" sleep. In addition, drives that allow it, are also set to never sleep which is why I am moving to enterprise class drives built to operate on a 24/7 basis. I also recommend wired operation where possible but have not noted any problem with two TV2 devices operating in the wireless mode. This same computer and hard drive/library is as used by my Air Video Server app to provide multimedia to my other mobile devices (iPhones and iPads) via Internet when not at home.
As iTunes is up and visible, the ATV2 can see my "computer". However, when I choose music or movies or Tv shows etc., it say that there is no content. If iTunes is not running, ATV2 will not even show my "computer".
The fact that iTunes is up and your TV can see it does not mean that iTunes can see the files on the hard drive. What? happens when you try to play something in iTunes? Do you just get a exclamation icon indicating it cannot see the files on your hard drive? That is why I suggested you manually check the library pointer above while the systems is malfunctioning. It immediately tells you whether or not you should look for a problem between the computer and the hard drive or between the computer/airport and the device player.
As it is I now have to shut down iTunes and restart again. Then everything is ok again. If ATV2 or my iMac goes to sleep, the whole problem starts again....
Rebooting merely treats the symptom and not the problem itself. You need to determine if it is a conflict, software corruption, or hardware malfunction causing the main problem.

  • Replacement ipod old library and playlist

So i just got my replacement ipod after my last one's harddrive went dead...so I did everything to to get it synched to my old library and playlist...however when I do this itunes is making a second set of playlists for this ipod...how to I just get it to synch with the old playlists (without creating the second set of playlists). I hope you understand what I'm saying...it's like when you attach someone else's ipod to your library and it gives you the message about that ipod being associated with another library if you would like to associate it with this current library and if you select yes it creates a second set of playlists...

  • Is there a way to create a library of playlists in iTunes

I have recently created a number of video playlists and I'm wondering if there is a way of creating a library of these playlists.Secondly is there way of adjusting the brightness of videos without downloading third party software.

Playlists in iTunes are stored in the main database iTunes Library.itl. They don't exist as a separate class of files. You can use File > Library > Export Playlist... to export individual playlists in various formats. These could be imported into another library if all of the required files of the playlist were on the same paths. In general however there is no need to export and reimport playlists to iTunes. Simply Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy so that the entire library, or any individual files, can be restored if needed.

  • How do I connect my library and playlists to iTunes 10 on PC.

My computer crashed. Luckily I had my extensive library and playlists on external drive. I have a newer PC now with Windows 7. I have tried to download a version of iTunes 10 but I am uncertain of how to connect them. I have made a link with my Library on my external drive and then dropped the library into the Music title on the iTunes window. It took a while to catalogue, making up album playlists, and then a window appeared saying "iTunes has stopped working." I doubtlessly did something wrong along the way. I would appreciate it if someone could help me out of this predicament and set me up in a working iTunes 10 that will take my my playlists and iPod Nanos 6th and 7th gen. I'm willing to start from scratch.

there are a load of suggestions in itune - this is not an icloud issue as wifi sync is seperate
many people have found success by restarting the applemobiledevices process and opening some ports on the firewall - all detailed under itunes support

  • Songs on my computer & my ipod are not showing up in itunes

Today, my sister and I both updated our itunes to 11.0.1 (12), the most current version of Itunes available. We have home shared for years, and tonight after my sister imported all of the songs she wanted from my library she was unable to view them in her itunes. The weird part is that when she plugged her ipod in, all of the new songs synced. Also, the number of songs she should have for artists show up when she types an artist name in the search box, but whens she clicks on the artist, not all of the songs show up. For example, she only had the song "Lights" by Ellie Goulding, but she imported 20 from my itunes. When she types "Ellie Goulding" into her itunes search box, Ellie Goulding shows up, and then "21 Items" shows up under it, but when she clicks there, only one song (the one she had before) shows up. She has tried typing in the name of a song that she imported, using home sharing, from my computer, for example "My Blood" and it says, "No Results" but that song is on her ipod. She can play the songs she imported from my itunes by typing in the artist name and clicking "Add to Up Next". Then she can scroll through all of the songs that she imported from a certain artist, but is unable to view in her itunes.
Basically, when she imported a song, it is registering that it is on the computer, but she cannot see it in her iTunes.
She uses an Acer Windows computer, and I have a MacBook.

  • How to edit ipod touch 4th gen playlists in iTunes 11??

Okay, maybe this is just me and I can't figure it out. But ever since the update (which I hate, btw) I have had a really hard time editing my ipod touch playlists. I don't have ALL of my music from my iPod in my iTunes library, so I like to be able to edit my playlists on my iPod without having to sync anything. But now, I can NOT for the LIFE OF ME figure out how to edit my iPod playlists in iTunes itself. Here are the specific things I want to do that I can't figure out:
    1. If I have a newly downloaded song in my iTunes library, it won't let me drag it to a specific playlist in my ipod. It makes me just drag the song onto my ipod and I have to then go into my ACTUAL ipod and add that song to whatever playlist I want. But I have to do it ON my ipod. I can't do it from Itunes.
    2. If I want to delete a song from a playlist on my ipod/ move any songs around in my playlists, I can't do it from itunes like I used to. I have to do it manually on the ipod.
Theres a few other things that I don't like but can live with. But this is ridiculous. Apple is really ******* me off. Can ANYONE out there help me with any of these problems? Is it something I'm just going to have to deal with? Or is there a way around it? Or do I have to uncheck something that will let me edit??? AHHH HELPPPPP MEEEE........

  • 2 Issues: asked to authorize computer that is already authorized.  Library and playlist on itunes is gone.  Is there a way to move items from my ipod onto itunes?

When I want to add an application itunes continually has me sign in, it then tells me this computer is already authorized, then the process starts all over again and no applications get transferred due to this.
I recently deleted files to free space on my laptop.  Turns out I must have deleted what itunes was linked to.  Is there a way to get my playlist from my ipod onto itunes or do I need to find all those CDs again and upload them?

    - You can transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - For non-iTunes purchased music you need a third-party progam like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
On the iPOo and the computer are those signed into the iTunes accunt that purchased the apps?
One computer go to iTues>Store sign out of existing account and sign into the one you want.  For the iPod go to Settings>Store

  • New computer, 20G iPod.  How do I update iTunes library?

Got a new computer (old computer crashed, lost data) and I already have a 20G iPod full of music. I downloaded iTunes and plugged in my iPod. A message comes up that says "The iPod is linked to another iTunes music library, do you want to change the link to this iTunes library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library?". I assume this means if I click "no" and the music stays on my iPod but doesn't import into the library. If I click "yes", will it erase my iPod music????? I don't know what to do because I'm afraid it will erase the music on my iPod... help!

  • Can't find my Music Library nor Playlists on iTunes site

I performed a full backup of my PC, copying everything to CD's for safekeeping, including my music from iTunes. My songs are sitting in a folder on my PC under "My Music" but when I go into iTunes site, they have disappeared! Yikes, can I get them back? Forunately they are still all sitting on my iPod, but would like to get my Music Library & Playlists back onto the iTunes site. Can anyone walk me through the steps I need to take?
    Much appreciated.

I am having the same issue. I got a new PC (Sony Vaio). Downloaded Itunes 8 64 bit. Imported all my music files. When i open with itunes the music plays. when i restart the PC and open itunes, the music library disappears. the itunes music folder creates duplicats as well.

  • IPod Music Library "Greyed Out" in iTunes when I plug my iPod in... help!

Hi... not sure how to explain this, so I'll do my best... if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!
When I plug my video iPod into iTunes via USB, I can see all of the songs in my iPod's music library in iTunes, but they are all "greyed out." The songs in my iTunes are fine and can be accessed, but when I look in the iPod's music library in iTunes, all of the songs show up but are inaccessible. Any ideas??? I'd really appreciate any help!

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to sync automatically with iTunes. If you want to play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • My computer and ipod crashed deleting all of my itunes music and apps how do i restore my full itunes account?

My computer was struck by lightning completly erasing all of hard drive and memory. Along with that my ipod touch 4th generation crashed and just got it rebooted but don't have any of my music, movies, or apps on it. So i redownloaded itunes and signed into my account but all of my music is gone along with my apps. How do I get back my music onto my itunes on my computer?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to do this, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • How Do I transfer ipod library over to new itunes library

I recently got a new computer so i lost everyting in the transfer.  I have windows 8 and I am trying to move all the songs from my Ipod to my new library.  When I go into the music tab on itunes it says it will delete everything on the Ipod and replace it with the few songs in the new library.  It still shows me the songs on my ipod in the "on this ipod" tab but I dont know how to sync it

The ipod is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.
You may be able to purchase a third party program to get the music - not supported by Apple.
