My Macbook Pro keyboard and USB keyboard will not work.  However, the trackpad and USB mouse will work.  Any help?
This is quite frustrating, since it randomly occured as I was browsing the web.  It seemed to happen out of nowhere.  I cannot login to my user account because I cannot type my password.
    Any help will be appreciated.

If you have another Mac, boot the non-working one into Target Disk Mode (holding down "T" at startup). Hook up the two Macs via a Firewire cable. The non-working one will mount on the other Mac as an external Firewire HD.
Next, download the 10.5.6 Combo update from here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1056comboupdate .html
Run it. When it asks you for a destination, choose the other Mac that was mounted via Firewire. When it's done, unmount the computer and restart it. The keyboard and mouse should work now.

  • My Trackpad or USB mouse will not work

    Hey,
    I'm running a power book G4 on version 10.3.11.
I started to notice erratic behavior with my track pad. It wasn't clicking on anything I was trying to select. Then all of a sudden it completely went. I can move the curser around the page fine but when I try and click on something nothing happens. It's like I am not clicking on the track pad at all.
I'm pretty sure it's not the track pad as the exact same behavior happens when I use a USB mouse.
I've also run a Hardware test and nothing has come back as being faulty.
Can anyone tell me what this could be? Maybe I need to update my operating system? Or there is something wrong with the board that actually reads the ram in my power book?

This issue came up for me over the weekend on December 20th.
Tried reset of trackpad with palm. - No improvement.
    PMU reset - No improvement.
    PRAM reset - No improvement.
Disassembly and cleaning - No improvement.
USB mouse and trackpad have same symptoms:
erratic jumpy mouse cursor and clicks not registering correctly.
Used Diskwarrior to repair "keys out of order" problem. - No improvement.
    Noticed desktop wallpaper switching rapidly.
Took PB to Apple Store - Genius booted to his portable HD and problem not evident. Concluded software problem, not hardware. Tried to delete mouse prefs but couldn't find them.
    Genius recommended "archive and install."
    SOLUTION
"Archive and Install" from Tiger update disk. - Problem fixed.
Ran software update - used combined OSX update. - Problem still fixed.
Looks like my problem was a software glitch. Kudos to the Genius for good advice.

  • Trackpad or USB mouse wont work

I am struggling with my Macbook pro. Its an early 2010 model. Just in the past couple days the mouse wont work. It just decides it does not want to click at all. Sometimes i can get the right click to work. If i restart with keyboard commands it is fine for about 10 min then does it again.  I thought it was the trackpad but it is performing fine.  I can feel and hear it depress and clilck properly but no action on the screen when it clicks. If i plugin a USB mouse i get the same problem.  I have reset PRAM, repaired permissions, done a hard drive verify and run the hardware test from install disk both easy and extended hardware test. And everything comes up as fine and the permissions repaired fine.
A couple months ago this computer was acting really weird and i decided to reformat with a fresh system since it had been over a year since i got it. It was a struggle to do even that. It would not install the system after a basic HD erase (which has never happened to me).  I had to zero out the HD to get the system to install.  It worked fine after i finally got it reinstalled and setup until now this mouse thing is happening
I am just wondering if this seems more like system corruption or a hardware issue like bad HD or bad board.  I am about to reformat again but I hate to go through all that setup again if it is hardware. Anyone have any thoughts on what to try next. Thanks

The regression reported here http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb&m=137523956310060&w=2 did not solve the problem as i installed the patch found here https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36296
Still the same message shown in the xorg log.
    EDIT:
Also, after being connected the mouse connects as a keyboard, but the actuall mouse functionality dosnt work.

  • My cursur, trackpad, and USB mouse are going crazy

This all happen just today. I don't really have control over the cursur and I have no idea why. The trackpad doesn't really work and the mouse is just jumping around.
Any ideas? or anything I could reset?
    This litterally happened over night.....
    p.s.
this took about 20 mins to type...

I have this same problem with my MacBook Pro (only since updating to Snow Leopard 10.6.4 from Leopard). I do not use a mouse. Periodically, I will find that I cannot move my cursor or use my trackpad. I usually use 1 finger to move the cursor and when this happens, it takes 2 fingers and it is jumpy (not moving exactly where I want it). Sometimes I cannot select anything or enter won't work.
I originally thought I must have accidentally hit a wrong button when typing. It usually goes away on its own after several minutes and I don't know why or how.
It's as if some setting got changed, but when I went to the trackpad / cursor settings, nothing appears different and I don't see anything to change to put it back the way it was.
Either it is a legitimate glitch with the S/W that needs fixing or some kind of setting issue that has an easier fix than going through safe mode and doing whatever the other poster mentioned.
I am somewhat familiar with safe mode on a Windows machine, but not on my Mac. I am fairly new to the Mac (have had it about 10 months, but still a lot I don't know).
I want an easy fix. It does not appear virus-related (or user-error) as nothing else seems affected and it goes away as suddenly as it came. It is always when I am using the internet, but that is 95% of what I use the Mac for. Again, I never had this problem with Leopard, and I only upgrade to Snow Leopard within the past 2 months or so after months (about 8) of using Leopard with no problem.

  • VISACOM - Alloc Error using 488.2 USB-B Interface - too many open sessions

I have been having the following issue in my VB .NET RF-ATE application.... It usually happens when my program enters a measurement loop (I.E. searching for P1dB). It begins to solve for P1dB and performs about 15 cycles (sets power level on SigGen and takes SpecAn meas) and then crashes due to the following error :
As Logged in the Event Viewer :
    VISA: May 13 09:45:22: Error=bfff003c,"VI_ERROR_ALLOC: Insufficient system resources/memory": ViTable::add - too many open sessions
As Logged in VB .NET :
An unhandled exception of type 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred in RFATE.exe
    Additional information: HRESULT = 8004003c
    VI_ERROR_ALLOC
Not sure why its happening my code is pretty solid (or so I thought) and I believe it closes the VISA session properly after each R/W operation? (See attached). I call the same procedure to talk to the GPIB instruments over and over.
Is it possible that I am not freeing and disposing of resources properly? I have read a little about destructors in .NET etc. but I was under the impression that as soon as "Sub End" is executed that the resources were free'd up? But that doesn't explain why I would get a "too many open sessions" error occour if I am closing the session after I am finished?
Another odd thing to note is that I have created testplan scripts and loaded them into my application with literally hundreds of measurement commands and my program didn't crash then???
I am very new to VB and .NET (3 months) so I have a lot to learn but I can't understand why this is occouring. Any help is appreciated.

    GPIB.txt ‏3 KB

Just posting a followup... Turns out I found a way to make it work! (I have been fighting this for almost 3 days!).
If you look at the variable declarations of my procedure.....
Sub GPIB(ByVal Addr As Object, ByRef Data As Object, ByVal IO As String)
    Dim ioMgr As Ivi.Visa.Interop.ResourceManager
    Dim instrument As Ivi.Visa.Interop.FormattedIO488
    Dim session As Ivi.Visa.Interop.IMessage
I use the "IMessage" interface for the variable session.
Just before the "Sub End" is executed I use the following line to close the session :
    session.Close
Which it would appear doesn't close the session properly when you use the "IMessage" interface.
So I changed the line to use the "IVisaSession" interface instead :
    Dim session As Ivi.Visa.Interop.IVisaSession
Now when the Close method is executed aparently it closes the session properly because my program isn't crashing at all!
I was using VISA COM 3.0 Reference object (GlobMgr.dll).
If anyone has any insight on this please do share.

  • Can I use USB mouse with bluetooth keyboard?

I am in need of some help. I recently got my iMac about 3 months ago and absolutely hate the magic mouse and want to use my rocketfish usb mouse along with the bluetooth mac keyboard. Is this possible or just wishful thinking on my end? I have searched everywhere for drivers and answers with programs etcetera and have came out empty. Help?

I've done so (and even tested it on my Macbook and the USB mouse works fine) but for some reason it will not interface with my iMac - and I've tired multiple USB ports and still nothing, which is why I brought up the keyboard being bluetooth I didn't know if that somehow may interfer with the USB mouse when the bluetooth keyboard is turned on and paired. I am pretty good when it comes to computers so I know what to look for and what I am doing (for the most part) but this has me stumped.

  • USB mouse skips and "cuts out"

    Hi,
I'm having a very strange problem. I'm using an USB mouse from Microsoft (IntelliMouse Explorer).
Its an optical mouse with a wire connecting to the usb port of the macbook pro 17".
My MacBook Pro is the top of the line one.
The problem i'm experiencing is that quite often, the mouse "cuts out" and i'm moving it about but the arrow is "stuck". I then try to move the arrow with my finger on the trackpad and there is no problem. A few second later the mouse works again. This happens about avery thirty seconds and is very annoying.
I tried to buy another mouse from Logitech - a very expensive one. But...it also happens with this mouse.
So, it must be the mac.
It hasnt been happening all the time, but since i dont have the time to do a all new install of the operating system (i'm using the all new version), I am really not sure what to do about it at the moment, so i'm living with it...
Am i the only one who has experienced this?
    Kind regards
    Nitnellav

You are not the only one on this issue, either I am also experiencing this same issue. With every USB mouse I use. I have a wired logitech g5 mouse and the razr mamba. They both experience this "cut off" and "sticking" issue, that you explained. Its especially noticeable in games. I use OSX 10.6.1 and Windows 7 via bootcamp 3. I am running the latest MBP model 15 inch.

  • USB Mouse hooks by slow movement.

    Hello community,
english is not my primary language,
but i hope, you understand me^^
I used the search function, but found nothing, what could help me.
I want to use a logitech usb mouse on my macbook.
The mouse needs no software and my mac is detecting her.
I can move the mouse with no problem, but:
When i move the mouse slowly, the cursor, hooks.
He moves in the direction i want, but not with a smooth movement.
    Instead he hooks around.
I thought, the mouse speed-up could be the problem,
but it seems, it is something else.
I also tested another usb mouse with the same result.
I hope, someone can help me and knows a solution for my problem.
If there is further information about my mac or the mouse needed,
    let me know.
    Greetings

I use Logitech mice exclusively--there is a preference pane for their products. I strongly recommend you install it because it allows you maximum control over all the mouse functions, plus the ability to assign extra functions to the buttons.
Below is the US version of the page you will use to find mouse software. Scroll to the bottom to find a "Change Location" link to allow you to view it in your preferred language.

  • Macbook keeps dropping USB mouse

I have a 2.2G Core Duo Macbook which has performed very well. At work I have been using a kensington USB mouse with scroll wheel for some time. In the last few days, the MacBook will suddenly "forget" that it has the mouse plugged in. On the prefs I have it set to "ignore track pad when mouse is present." If I remove the mouse and reconnect it, sometimes it will reset, but sometimes not. I haven't noticed the problem with other USB devices (HDD, camera).
I have restarted, reset the SMC, zapped the PRAM and everything else I can think of. Any more ideas?

I have a similar problem with my Logitech Trackman Wheel mouse, but I know it's not the mouse as it still works in other computers. I've also see others with a similar problem - is there any other possibility other than it being the mouse?

  • Macbook pro Late 2011 13.3 inch i7 keyboard and trackpad not working bluetooth showing a cross sign and no usb mouse is detected. Almost dead keyboard and mouse. Earlier same problem used to be solved by opening the lower cover and closing it.

My macbook pro 13.3 inch i7 late 2011 edition has previously encountered unresponsive trackpad and keyboard. To solve that, I used to open the back cover and then close it. It has been working fine since that. Yesterday, same thing happened, this time I noticed that bluetooth icon is showing a cross sign across it and keyboard and trackpad were unesponsive. After some time , everything worked fine and bluetooth sign was back to normal. Then , suddenly it went back to the problem. I shut it down by holding the power button. When I booted it again, I could not login because keyboard and trackpad were not working. I attached a HP mouse it didnt work. I opened the back cover disconnected the battery and then connected it again, didnt worked. Since then , I have tried many things and nothing has solved the problem.

    @sanjampet
As you suggested I reset the smc, in the first boot nothing worked. In the second boot, it all worked like a charm. I thought that my problem is resolved now. To test it, I shut it down properly. Next morning, I powered it on, all things i.e, keyboard, trackpad, bluetooth etc. worked and I thought that problem has been solved. When I was just going to visit apple forum to reply you,  the same problem reappeared. A sawtooth cross over bluetooth icon, keyboard not working, trackpad not working,no usb mouse working which worked well when it was fine. I reset smc so many times again and again but same problem continued. Isn't it a problem of the firmware?
Next time when it will work, I will update its firmware.
My macbook was bought in dec2011 so no warranty now.

  • HT203171 Only a small area on the right side of my magic trackpad is working after using a USB mouse temporarily.

I have been using my trackpad for several months with no issues. This week the bateries died and I had to use a USB mouse temporarely.
After installing the new bateries and connecting the trackpad only a portion on the right side of the trackpad is working (about 1 inch band from top to bottom).
Does anyone have a solution to recalibrate the trackpad?

    Hi:
I reported the issue last week.  I have no idea what in the world is going on with the support pages.
Right now none of them work!
Anyway, luckily the Spanish support page for your model works (when the general support site comes back up).
You should be able to figure out what driver you need for your USB3 controller...
Enter your model number on the english support site and then change the country at the bottom.
Don't bother trying the Australian or UK english sites because they don't work either.

  • I just upgraded to Yosemite, but now I can't get beyond the login screen on startup without using a usb mouse. After that my blutooth keyboard, magic mouse and trackpad all work okay.

In Yosemite, can't login without usb mouse.

    Hello jimpetty,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with Bluetooth connections. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing.

  • Why does my 2012 Retina Macbook Pro's trackpad become extremely unresponsive after I plug in a USB mouse? The only trackpad command that works is the left click, I can't select text or press down and hold the trackpad to do anything else until I restart.

My trackpad becomes REALLY unresponsive after I plug in a USB mouse. It seems like the cursor is broken and stuck on a permanent left click or something. I'm unable to select text or do any other sort of action that requires you to hold down the trackpad and drag. Mouse icons don't update as I scroll over different text and links. The trackpad is usually stuck in this unresponsive state until I restart my macbook which is extremely inconvenient if I have to do this after every time I use a USB mouse. Are there any fixes to this?

    Melophage,
I don't leave it outside. Usually when I leave it overnight, I do so under the same conditions as when I leave it plugged in, and this morning I only left it for about an hour in my house and it did the same thing.
    LowLuster,
I actually have a new hard drive I bought a while back and have been meaning to switch it out with the one that's in there now. I'll follow your instruction, then make the switch I had planned on and report back.
