Same issue. Share Menu is Grey.
I have shared other projects from iMovie 09' but every once in a while, there is an iMovie that will not share. It is not in the events menu but the share menu, so thats not the issue. I have edited the movie the same way I have edited other movies that I have successfully exported. For some reason, THE OPTIONS ARE ALL GREY. I even went into "disk Utility and repaired permissions thinking that might solve it. I have re-created the movie again and had the problem. I have shut down the machine and the application and the Share problem remains. HELP!
I had same problem too. Everything is fine but for one project. Share menu completely greyed-out. Very annoying. Followed suggestion by someone else here on the forum to rename the project in the project library (just change one or two characters and hit enter) and it worked. Obviously a bug. Apple, please fix this!

What is wrong?Are you logged in to the App Store/iTunes on that Mac?
Also get "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion (dot com) and trash Motion's preference files. -

I am using FCPX and have made a sequence and now want to share my project but the share menu is grey. I have used it a month ago and shared on line and made a dvd but now it is only grey.
Trash the application and reinstall. Most likely you have a software conflict. Most likely MacKeeper.

HT1688 iPhone 4S no WiFi anywhere iOS 5 after Apple Tech help same issue on iOS 6
ISSUE - can not connect to any WiFi hotspot at all
Several weeks ago my daughters iPhone 4S AT&T (on iOS 5) phone number failed to connect to any WiFi hotspot on her college campus including: campus wide WiFi, Starbucks or her Cisco 1500 WiFi in her dorm room. She has an iPhone 4S under warranty (I think now in the range of 30-20 more days).
The iPhone couldn't find any WiFi at all, but her roommates iPhone 4 worked perfectly everywhere on all hotspots.
So I have been paying for massive data overage charges with AT&T because the iPhone 4S is broken.
AT&T and then APPLE tech support first call 4 hours long
She rented a car and drove home 47 miles (94 miles round trip) and spent the afternoon a few Sundays ago and I spent 4 hours on the phone with AT&T and then Apple support. I was weird I pointed our that her phone was 0.06GB over capacity e.g. a yellow caution alert in iTunes - but the Apple tech on the phone said just back it up and we would reset and restore it.
We did all the usual stuff with AT&T and then they gave up and moved us to Apple (backups, resets, then a full system factory revert, and restore) - it was brutal I hadn't seen my daughter in 2 months and her entire visit was a tech support nightmare.
Despite saying I did not want her to upgrade to iOS 6.X - the apple tech wanted to do a full restore BUT the restore procedure triggered an unwanted iOS 6.X upgrade (and wiped the phone and started a massive download) without my permission - it was a slow painful 1 hour 40 minute download. Worse yet I kept thinking that if she is 0.06GB over capacity and the iOS 6.X is "bigger" than 5.X what was going to happen to her phone ? The apple tech got testy with me when I pointed this out I had to say "you know if a glass of water is overfilled by 0.06 and you want to replace 2 oz with 3 oz (e.g. the iOS upgrade form 5 to 6 ) then obviously it will spill some more - she didn't get it.
So I have a near 2 hour download - scheduled a call call back but was hung up on (Apples IP phone system couldn't here me talk) and had to go back through AT&T's 611 support number support to get an Apple technician since the Apple line said it was closed - her iPhone was in a limbo 1/2 upgraded state waiting for user input in iTunes.
During the restore (I say during not after) that her WiFi did start working while the apple tech was on the line BUT the restore was still gong on in the background - her camera roll took 16+ hours to restore ( yes sixteen hours !!!) - during which time she left the phone tethered to her Mac-book didn't use it and left her Mac-book attached to a power source.
Overall she says that lost some data and her also her music playlists on her phone, and it did connect to WiFi when the rep was on the line and when she first got back to the her college campus.
Comments (not related to the issue at hand):
1. Overall this was a very very time consuming experience - I am a computer guy (not stupid but not super Mac knowledgeable either) but it seems to me that we should be able to attache the iPhone to iTunes and Apple should be able to remote control everything instead of saying click her click there and having Apple technicians say there is a non-existent menu (she was mixed up between Mac OS-X and Windows PC iTunes) here etc. etc.. Seriously why have the end user involved this is 2012 and if the iTunes is on the Internet there is no excuse for not granting access to Apple Tech!
2. As for iOS 6.X (I loaded it my IPhone 4) your maps are crap and useless I hate it thanks for giving me a worthless mapping system - I gout out my old GPS unit and put it back in my car. Seriously give us back Google maps. My other daughter gets pop-ups upgrade to iOS 6 but can not load iOS 6 because it then says not enough space. What a joke !

So it only worked for one (1) or two (2) days despite my daughter driving almost 100 miles and being sucked into a a marathon 4 hour tech support nightmare with Apple. The net result the exact same thing started happening again no WiFi capabilities again. So I had her call AT&T at 611 and the AT&T technician talked to her looked at the lengthy case notes from the prior call e.g. the history and said that the iPhone 4S was defective phone no point in wasting another four hours of every one's time. She was told by AT&T to go to the Apple store get the iPhone replaced as it was under warranty.
Problem is that she has no way to get to the Apple store (no car) so I now have a 94 mile round trip to pick her up and go to an Apple store before her one (1) year warranty expires - as such I made this appointment.
I did some more research and this seems to be a pretty big problem for people - Apple is hiding the issue hoping people just go away and they have no concept of cost and time that they force down customers throughts to debug problems.
It even seems like Apple actually hid a known problem from me during my initial four hour tech nightmare that Tim Cook admitted publicly on Sept 24, 2012 (last few links) see below links for further research:

All in all Apple is really dissapointing me 5 iphones and the newer they get the more bugs 3G worked great no issues, iPhone 4 no major issues, iPhone 4S buggy WiFi - never want to use an iPhone 5 form what I am reading.No one is going to read your lengthy post.
If the basic troubleshooting steps outlined in the User Guide don't work, then bring your phone in for replacement. -
Mail option is missing from share menu
"Mail" is missing from the share menu. When I go to the Extensions preferences in the System Preferences it is checked buy also grayed out. On Apple.Com it clearly shows in the example that Mail is present in the Share dropdown menu. I verified that my Mail account is correct. I have also tried Apple's instructions on this page: If sharing options and Markup are missing after you install OS X Yosemite - Apple Support. Still nothing works. The Apple Help file even says this:
Share Menu
Select the items that you want in the Share menu, and in the Social widget in Today view in Notification Center.
The Share menu is available in several apps, including Safari, Contacts, and the Finder. If an item is selected, but you don’t see it in an app’s Share menu, then you can’t use that item to share in that particular app.
Only items that allow posting or messaging can appear in the Social widget.
So, it would seem from this that Mail is not available in Photos? I find that hard to believe. I would be nice to still be able to email a photo directly from the new Photos App. Any other help would be appreciated. Thank you.
StanHaving the same issue! Just updated to 10.10.3 and still no mail option in the share menu for Photos app! Share via email works fine in Safari but it is not available in Photos app. Hopefully someone will advise or respond asap otherwise, will wind up following the steps to reverting back to iPhoto!!

qHow do u get help from apple support with iChat? I was able to chat with support last week to solve my problem but now the same issue is back and I don't see the option to chat now?
For what it is worth I have noticed a similar issue from the iPad3 while at work and home. At work we have two Apple TV 3rd Generation installed and tied to our A/V system. I believe the issue has to do with a timeout on the broadcast saying "here I am" and allowing devices to connect.
For example:
At work we have several Wi-Fi SSID being broadcast from Cisco APs. The only one we can use with the Apple TV is the one that uses a WEP since the others are either setup to be hidden, require web page authentication, or have a login requirement from employees. Essentially, what I believe the issue is that the Apple TV periodically broadcasts a message to other iOS devices that support Mirroring. When the Apple TV does not get a response from a device it goes into a dormant mode and requires either a command from the remote control or a reboot. This has been tested with both the power management enabled and not enabled with the same results.
As for when I come home, the Apple TV3 has not seen the device in some time and therefore is not broadcasting it's location information. A simple click of the circle or menu keys on the remote will give it the command to start broadcasting again and allow the iPad3 to see the Apple TV. When trying to Home Share the computer can not play (iTunes 11, Win8RTM) until the Apple TV is awoken then it will show up for mirroing.
This may or may not assist you but, it hopefully explains how the issue may be happening. -
Photo casting not in share menue
I purchased and installed Ilife 06 . I have tried to use the photocasting but it is not showing on my share menue when I select aan album to share. I have installed 6.04 iphoto. Visited the mac store today and they said all I needed to do was to set my info in system preferences.. Did that and still don't have any menu showing photocast... What shoud I do??? Thanks,
HKIIIi'm having the same problem. Its not that there is no recongition of a album for a photocast. There is not an option when you go to the share menue. Your only choices are iweb and .mac slides. There isn't a photocast choice not even an greyed out apperance. i went to talk to the mac person at one of the stores and he pulled up iphoto and showed me where to go,he went to the shear menue in iphoto and the photocast choice was there but it was greyed out. so he told me to check the softwear version. but the only difference i saw is their version was 6.02. does any body have any insight.

GarageBand becoming unresponsive when clicking 'Share' menu
So, I'm done with my project, and I need to get it out of GB. When I click the Share menu, GB hangs and becomes unresponsive. I have to resort to Force Quit.
I've replicated this 5 or 6 times now. Anyone else having the same issue?I created a small loop based tune of about 50 secs yesterday. Touch wood, I could share it successfully to iTunes and also write on disk, no issues.

For this one project, the "Share" menu can be twirled open, but none of the choices on the menu are active..they are greyed out. I don't understand what the difference is between this project, and the other projects that would cause this. I am noticing that this particular project is configured as 1080p HD, and the others are standard def. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
With further inspection, thanks for your guidance, it turned out that the timeline contained media linked directly off off the SD card. After ejecting the SD card, redness showed up. We will be in good shape going forward. Now I need to figure out how to re-link what's in the timeline to a local copy of the file on the hard drive. But, you solved our issue. Thank you!

Multiple Users Mounting the Same Network Share?
Hello, first time posting...
I'll cut right to my main question: Is it possible, on OS X v10.3.9, for multiple users to simultaneously connect to the same network share?
Here in my office, we have a single Mac that is used by multiple people throughout the day. It has two accounts on it, 'Communications' and 'Studio'. 'Communications' is an Admin account that is used by a co-worker who spends the most time on the Mac. He created the no-limitation 'Studio' account for the rest of us to use.
There is a certain Windows network share that we both frequently use. We've found that if one user connects to the share first, the other user will not have access to it; using 'Go -> Connect to Server' will result in the share being greyed out in the list, and the share will not show up in the Finder.
However, there is one way around it. If Studio connects to the share first and then Communications (the admin account) attempts to make a connection of it's own *through a shortcut on the dock*, then a 'clone' of the share will be created on Comm's desktop, with a "-1" after the name (though it might be some other number).
This may sound like I've answered my own question, but what I'm looking for is a way for the non-Admin account to access the share after the Admin account already has (so that we don't have to log-in and disconnect Communications everytime Studio needs to manage files on the share).
We have Thursby Software's DAVE installed on the Mac, but I'm not sure how it fits into all this.
Any thoughts, suggestions or advice?
Thanks.Bizarre. It turned out I could merge them, but only in to the mapped drive - L: - and only by explicitly clicking on the drive icon - if I typed L:\series in to dialog box it converted it back to \\nas\share\series... Not helpful.

Having the exact same issue. Also, on right click, many apps freeze/beachball and must force close. Additionally, uTorrent and Transmission are not operating correctly-uTorrent constantly beachballing and unresponsive. Right-click freezes with everything from Word to iMovie. Takes way too much time to do anything, and lots of cursor freezing, here is a sys log excerpt:

That killed the hard drive, so I got a new hard drive and had the Apple Store install Lion on it, then used Migration Assistant to bring files over. I am having great diffivulty in 'sync' my IPOD4 with my PC. I have purchased some new music with my PC and I am trying to 'SYNC' the IPOD with it so that they can both have the same music on each. I used to be able to 'sync' from my PC I TUNES menu but the 'SYNC' in the file menu is greyed out so I am unable to use it. Please help me.

I am trying to update my music library via homeshare however, there is no Share menu after I upgraded to itunes 10.5.3.3. I've tried turning off the homeshare and restarting itunes, uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, and i've also tried repairing itunes. I've tried looking for threads on this but haven't found one. I see its also a problem on my daughters ibook. I have a PC running Vista. Is there a fairly simple fix? Or, If it's more complicated, can someone please explain it step by step?
I only have my own MacBook Pro to test on, but this resolved the issue for me.
Creating a new user resolves this issue for that user. For existing users, I did the following. Note that 'staff' is a group to which my work and home accounts both belong.
Log in as root or a different user with sudoer permissions.
Go the the 'Users' directory.
Where 'username' is the home directory of the user for whom the menu bar is no longer working type:
Type 'chown -R username:staff username', without the quotes.
Type 'chmod -R g+r username', again without the quotes.
Log back into the 'username' account and the menu bar should be functional. And probably several other preferences issues which the update borked by getting the file permissions wrong. -
PErmissions repair says done, but second repair shows same issues
After I repair permissions, a list of repaired files is shown and "Permissions repair complete". I decided to run it again immediately just on a lark. The same list of files appeared and the same "Permissions repair complete". I booted to the Leopard install DVD and ran permissions repair -- twice -- same issue. I know an Archive install will fix it, but any other suggestions? Use Pacifist to extract and replace the troubled files?

Where is the SHARE Menu located in iPhoto?
Hello. In the Apple procedures for backing up photos, they indicate the following:Copy your photo library to a CD or DVD
1. Select your Library, roll, album, or individual photos you want to burn to a disc.
2. Click the Share menu, and choose Burn.
3. Insert a blank CD or DVD into your drive.
4. Name your disc.
5. Click the Burn button in the Burn Disc window.
Can someone advise me where the SHARE MENU is? I have tried to find it, but no luck. Is it in the Toolbar or is it somewhere on the iPhoto page itself? Thanks.ws,

I'll add my vote here for PhotoShop Elements, since I do use it. It's very flexible: easy for beginners, yet powerful for more advanced use. I've had every version from PSE 1 up to 4, and it's been worth every penny each time.
For your second question, I have a different approach. iPhoto and PSE are different types of applications, with different strengths, which work very well in tandem as 2 parts of a workflow. I use iPhoto to organize my photos. The more I play with its features the more I like it. Now that I have added keywords to all my photos, I can use Smart Albums or the keyword tool to pull up any set of photos I could imagine almost instantly. As an image editor, however, iPhoto is quite limited. Fine for a quick crop or red-eye fix, but that's about it.
For image editing I use PSE 4. I set in up in iPhoto's preferences as my external editor. Double-click in iPhoto to open the image in PSE. Edit, click Save, and the edited version is automatically saved back into iPhoto. Simple.
PSE 4 comes with Adobe Bridge, written for PC users who don't have the benefit of iPhoto. I don't know about the version of Bridge that comes with Photoshop CS2, but the version I have is a highly crippled version compared to Bridge on a PC. On a PC you create catalogs, version sets, tags, etc. to organize your photos and be able to search them (like with iPhoto). But the Mac version is lacking all of these features. It is simply a file browser that lets you open files from your own folders and add metadate. You can search by that metadata, I suppose. Anyway, there is no benefit to transferring your files to Bridge whatsoever. It does not store your files for you. You'd lose all the functionalities of iPhoto, and gain only a crippled PC app. BTW, I tried using Bridge when I first got it with PSE 4. It just doesn't work well for photos inside the iPhoto library, because accessing them from Bridge is the same as accessing them through the Finder (a no-no). I am much happier with my iPhoto to PSE workflow. I use only Bridge to browse and access images that I keep outside of iPhoto, like scrapbook projects.
