I am administrator, licensed user hard drive died, new computer will not recognize original invitation to license and say license is used. How do I reinvite her or do I have to cancel license and add new license?

Based on a thread I started and others I've read, I would backup your System with a bootable clone to an external HD. After the new HD is installed, use the clone backup to restore your new HD. You can do this with Apps like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. That's what I plan on doing.

The other day, I decided to replace my 320 GB hard drive with a 1 TB hard drive/SSD hybrid. I did a little bit of research about cloning the drive before that, and it seemed pretty straight forward to clone the OS X partition, but I wasn't really sure about cloning my Windows partition. Originally, my 320 GB hard drive had 2 partitions: 220 GB for OS X Mavericks, and 100 GB for Windows 8.1.
I bought the new drive with an external enclosure and plugged it in. The first thing I did was open Disk Utility and partitioned the new hard drive (750 GB HFS+, 250 GB NTFS). I figured I would need to partition it first and clone each partition separately. I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the OS X partition, and it worked with no problem (I immediately could restart my computer and boot with the partition on the new drive, while it was still plugged in by USB).
Next, I tried using CCC to clone the Windows partition the same way (I realize now that CCC cannot do this). 7 hours later, the cloning was complete, but there was an error that a couple files couldn't be copied. I tried copying them manually but it didn't work. I wasn't sure if the Windows partition would work, so to find out, I switched the hard drives and put the old 320 GB one in the external enclosure. I booted my computer and it booted the new OS X partition with no problem. It also mounted the Windows partition that I cloned with CCC, and I can access all of the files in it. However, when I restarted and held down "option", it would not let me boot the Windows partition.
After some googling, I realized CCC is not able to clone a bootcamp partition and make it bootable, so I opened disk utility and deleted the Windows partition (using the minus button), then recreated it (using the plus button). I downloaded Winclone (paid $30), which supposedly can clone a bootcamp partition. I opened Winclone and it seemed pretty simple: you just choose the source partition on the left, and the target on the right. I plugged in the USB enclosure with my old hard drive, and in the Winclone menu the original Windows partition popped up. I chose that as my source, and chose to copy it to the new NTFS partition on the new drive that I created. I left it on overnight, and when I woke up it said it was completed.
I now had two drives mounted: my NTFS partition that I created, and a new one that said "EFI". I have no idea what EFI is. My NTFS partition looks like it has all of the files from my original Windows partition on it; however, when I restart it does not allow me to boot with it, although I now have the option to boot EFI. When I select EFI, I am given the Windows 8.1 start up screen (with the blue Windows logo), but then an error message pops up saying something like there is an issue and it needs to restart (it restarted before I could read the whole thing).
When I boot in OS X, I only have the NTFS partition (with all my Windows files) mounted, and no EFI. When I restart, I can still boot EFI, but I always get the same message and then it restarts.
Is there any way I can fix my Windows partition so that it works the same way it did on my old drive? What is EFI? Can I delete it? How can I make the NTFS partition, which seems to have all of my files, bootable? I only want 2 partitions: one for OS X, and one for Windows. Also, can I do all of this without having to reinstall either of the operating systems?

I headed over to the twocanoes website (the folks that make Winclone) and their guide mentions something about running Sysprep before you create the Windows image. If you skipped that step, that may be why you're having issues

New hard drive, cannot transfer music stored on my shuffle to new library without deleting. Please help

Can anyone help please, I have a window xp computer and had to instal a new hard drive. I am unable to sync the music on my shuffle with the new library without deleting what is on the suffle. Cannot afford to delet what is on the shuffle as it not only music.
Would it be possible to burn the music on my shuffle onto a CD, transfer it to the new library and back to my shuffle?

That sounds vaguely like you need to authorize your computer.
Even thought it's the same 'puter, Apple doesn't know that due to the reformatting.

Got a new hard drive for Snow Leopard, but what about all the applications?

Installing Snow Leopard revealed a faulty hard drive, but Genius Bar got me a new hard drive and installed Snow Leopard and the rest of the Mac Box Set for me.
I'm putting my computer back together, and I had all my files backed up on a Passport, but what do I do about the applications that I had? I could use a reinstallation of Office for Mac and Final Cut Express. Can I ask the companies directly?

More reason to back up your +*entire system,+* whether with Time Machine, a "clone" app like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, and/or some other way.
You should still retain the original discs, of course, but having a full system backup greatly reduces the chance you'll need them.

Cannot get into the What's next site

This is insane. I registered for FiOS. Received an email stating that I need to go to a Verizon site called What's next. I click on it, and it ask me for my order number and zip code. I enter it. It says it isn't valid. I enter a chat and the person says they can't help me, call a number they gave me. I call. The person I talk to says don't use the order number in the email that it says to use, use one he is giving me. I try that. doesn't work. I try to send an email, but I can't because I do not have an account number (since I just registered). So I get on another chat. ask the person what to do. They ask, why do I need to go to that site. I explain what the email says. So they get back and say - it says that you will have it installed on June 12 - can I help you with anything else. I say - that wasn't the question. I need to get into the What's next site, but can't. I then tell them I tried to send an email, but can't because I do not have an account. They say "that is because you just registered and don't have an account". Well DUH!!! Isn't that what I just said (I am only thinking that).
They again say - sorry - I can't help you.
So - how in the heck do I get help around here. Chat can't. Phone gives me wrong information. Can't email. Is this what I am getting into with Verizon's FiOS? Is this the kind of help I can expect - none whatsoever!!!!!
Does anybody know how to get help - other than sitting on the phone for 1/2 hour again (with bad music) to get no help at all!!!! Every avenue is blocked. Can anybody tell I am frustrated? Can I still pull out of this without paying the penalty since I don't have it installed yet? What other companies offer Phone, network and Tv bundles in Murrieta California!!!

I would wait until tomorrow when the business office is open and call them.
The "What's Next" thing is just going to tell you what to expect when the installer comes. It's also possible that your order number is not in the system yet but may appear tomorrow.

Installed new hard drive & cannot install OS X 10.5

Seems my 2007 aluminum iMac's hard drive was dying (disk warrior was giving me errors saying it was unable to swap out the new rebuilt directory with the old one- plus the apple geniuses said the HD might be dying, and I had tons of issues with apps, especuially world of warcraft which constantly accessed the HD during use for image files, etc).... So I went to Best Buy and bought a new one. The same type as the original faltering HD (WD Cavier blue 320GB). It was installed by the Best Buy Geek Squad Dept.
I got it home today, booted off the install CD disk 1, and it cannot find a destination to install OS X.
The box I am stuck at says: DESTINATION
where do you want to install OS X
and no drive is listed. Nothing in the box.
At the bottom the buttons are options, go back, and continue ... only go back is not greyed out.
So ... lol what is the problem?

Back in Jan. I went with the same WD 320GB Caviar Blue HD, replacing the Seagate 160GB in my Early Core Duo and I'm very happy with it. Instead of using the Install Disk I booted from the Clone on my Maxtor FireWire External HD, then Partitioned/Formatted the new HD and Restored from the Clone on the External HD.

Toshiba A500-1H1 after recovery on new hard drive cannot boot

Hi, I had to replace hard drive because old one is broken. I used recovery media I've created after opening laptop first time as you suggested with Toshiba support. Recovery is fine, but during windows configuration I had information about not certified signatures and windows cannot boot. There is error suggesting that maybe hardware was changed. So my question is ? Buying Toshiba laptops I cannot change my harddrive, so if any part of Toshiba is broken I have to buy new notebook ? Or maybe I can access to my Windows764bit key and download from microsoft windows and install and configure this by myself ?

Hi, thanks for your reply - I FOUND A SOLUTION, a quick description about my problems is below. 1. First of all. My Toshiba HDD is broken in that way that it cannot be booted. I did a couple low level tests (one took about 90 hours !!) and surface is free from bad sectors. Disk is in very good condition, but I suppose controller in disk is broken because everything is installed correctly, recovery takes about 20 minutes and after rebooting I have typical information about problem with reading boot information, BCD, 0xC000... And so on. So disk is working now as storage on usb. This disk was 320GB - original from Toshiba. 2. Then I tried use new one disk: Samsung 1TB. And I had this problem with booting again, but info from windows was about not certified drivers (when it tried install WiFi, and other drivers). Then I post this post here, but meanwhile I contact my support in Poland and they suggested me there can be a problem with DISK SIZE - they said this is TOO BIG FOR RECOVERY.. That was very strange for me - I heard first time the problem can be with too much space, not with not enough space Anyway I decided to buy new SSD 250GB (smaller than original Toshiba) hard drive. My recovery took me about 10 minutes. I have SATA3 SSD but Toshiba support SATA1, but anyway my computer seems to work 3x faster than before
So the problem was with original disk, controller (boot sectors maybe), and with too large new disk so Toshiba recovery disk couldn't manage.

New Hard Drive - Cannot Boot From Install Disc

Hi guys,
I just replaced the hard drive in my macbook and I want to re-install Tiger on the new drive. When i insert the install disc and hold option on startup, the cursor appears but no boot options. When i hold c, nothing happens at all.
When i put the old hdd back in, both the hdd and the install disc appear as boot options, but nothing with the new drive.
Any ideas??

Use the original OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer. Insert it into the optical drive and restart the computer. After the chime press and hold down the "C" key until the spinning gear appears below the dark gray Apple logo. The first thing you must do before installing OS X is to prep the new drive:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
Once formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Complete the OS X installation.

Migrating; same x230, new hard drive. Need help figuring out Lenovo driver package installation

I'm looking at replacing a HD on the GF's x230. I have the Windows 7-64bit migration all figured out (WET) but I was cruising around the Lenovo site and I'm clueless about how to install ALL Lenovo drivers once I have Windows installed. Can I use the SCCM as a home user? Do I just install Lenovo update once Wins 7 is complete and it will self detect whats needed? Or is there some sore of mechanism on the x230 I'm currently unaware of? I see Lenovo has a program similar to Windows Easy Transfer but they never make clear if it will back up Windows AND Lenovo apps and drivers. Would rather use WET then a Driver package from Lenovo.
Studying for my A+ cert now so I'd really like to gain experience and get this sucker migrated properly!!

After you have your OS install complete, and Microsoft updates, you can go to Lenovo's support website. Download "system update" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-61432#update
This is a program that will detect your system and then show you what drivers and software to install specific to your machine. Another benefit is that you can run it periodically to let it check for the latest versions of drivers and software a well.
In addition, since I have found that this software, while good, is not fool proof, you can click on the "driver matrix" below and then select your machine type and OS and it will list pretty much everything available for your particular system. I double check what system update offers with what is on the system specific drivers page to make sure I don't miss anything. Takes a little longer but you really get to see all the software and drivers out there - and usually up to date as well. Good luck!

When I try to restore from Time Machine to a new hard drive, I get the message that the files can't be restored. What's the problem?

See the subject line. Anyone know what the problem is?
Also, the back up disk is called "time mac" but when I get to the Selct a Backup page, it says to Restore from: Macintosh HD on MarySmith2 and that is greyed out. Shouldn't it say "time mac". It won't let me choose anything.

Hold down the option/alt key while clicking on the Time Machine menu bar and select Verify Backup.
