Same message every time I open iPhoto - "use iPhoto when you connect..."

Every time I open iPhoto 6 (using a MacBook Pro) I am asked: "Do you want to use iPhoto when you connect your digital camera?" I respond "yes," only to be presented with the same question the next time I open the program. Any thoughts on why that might be and how I can stop it from asking (and remember that I want to use it with my camera)?
MacBook Pro (Dual 2.0Ghz)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Thanks for the suggestion. I gave that a try, but no luck. Turns out, though, my main volume was corrupted--most likely related to running the public beta of Parallels Workstation (great software, but there's a reason they tell you not to run betas on production computers ). I repaired my drive using Disk Utility and that seems to have done the trick.

  • Warning message every time I open an app

I ended a Creative Cloud subscription and then opened another one because I got a free year from one of my employers.  Since the new subscription, I've been getting messages every time I open an application saying that Adobe is having trouble verifying my membership.  It also give the amount of days remaining for me to verify it before eberything stops working.  This is happening on both my desktop and my laptop.  The only thing that I can think to do is uninstall everything and then reinstall so that Adobe is reinstalling everything on the new subscription. I wanted to know if this was the case before trying it because this would be a bit of a pain.  I don't mind doing it if that's the answer to the problem.  Whatever I have to do, I also need to know if it's something I have to do on both machines running the software.  Thanks!

why is location arrow on status bar every time i open lock screen even when nothing running

    Something is using location services...
Go to Settings>Privacy>Location Services. You can see what, if anything, is currently using location services, and what has used it within the last 24 hours.
An open location services arrow means there is a geo-fenced reminder set.

  • Getting a Message EVERY TIME I open a downloaded file

Okay, I download all the time for my Sims 2 game. The format of the files I download are .package files, and used a program called package installer to open. Every time I open one of the files, it gives me this stupid warning telling me that they might contain a program. Great. I know that. Is there any way to disable this stupid message?

    Hi,
When I first started up my MacBook I accidentally left my homefolder named
something I didn't want. To correct that, my husband created another admin
account and then deleted the first one.
    See this article:
*About file quarantine in Mac OS X v10.5 and v10.6*
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3662
    It includes the following:
If you have multiple user accounts on your Mac, the user account that downloaded the file is the only user account that can remove the quarantine attribute to the file. All other user accounts can open the quarantine file, but they will be presented with the quarantine dialog box asking "Are you sure you want to open it?" every time they open the file.
Since the user account that originally downloaded and installed FireFox and Skype no longer exists, I would re-download these .dmgs from the internet using your current admin account, remove the old apps and re-install new ones from these new .dmgs, and run the apps at least once from the same admin account that downloaded and installed them. The quarantine should then be lifted, even if you later switch to a different account.

  • Importing mailboxes (upgrade to 10.4) hangs on same message every time

I have upgraded system to 10.4.10. Opening mail for first time, I am invited to import mailboxes. Every time, it hangs on message "14,589 of 15,233". It must be a corrupt message. When I was in 10.3, it hung my mail program every time I opened my "sent" mailbox and started indexing, hanging when it reached the same message.
I narrowed down what messages it probably was, but unfortunately, when I opened the sent folder to delete, it always hung, and I always had to force quit, hence not saving my delete actions.
perhaps I can at least import the other mailboxes if I move the sent folder and complete the import process without it. anyone know where to find the old mailbox files? they do not appear in library/mail, probably because I have not succeeded in importing them from 10.3.
and any way to open these files outside of mail and remove a message without opening mail?
    thanks for any help

If you already had problems when running Mac OS X 10.3, you should have fixed them before upgrading. The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken even for mailboxes that can be accessed without a hitch in Mac OS X 10.3. In your case, upgrading could only make things worse...
Here’s an example of the most common variant of this problem and how to proceed in those cases:
Just upgraded, Most of my old Inbox is gone!
Your problem, however, is different in that you don’t even get past an incomplete conversion. If Mail stalls during the conversion process, you may try to identify the mailboxes that Mail is choking on, quit Mail, move those mailboxes out of ~/Library/Mail/ (e.g. to the Destkop), and trash any Envelope Index-named files you may see in ~/Library/Mail/, so that Mail re-creates the index and tries to import the remaining mailboxes again, then manually import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
    <hr>
Alternatively, you may want to set up Mail from scratch and manually import your mail back afterwards. This would allow you to use Mail normally while solving the problem of importing the old mail as you see fit:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/. Move (not copy) the entire Mail folder out of there, to the Desktop.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop.
    4. Open Mail and set it up again from scratch. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and check that everything works fine.
    5. You’ll have to re-configure all your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    6. Do File > Import Mailboxes and follow the instructions to import your mail from the old Mail folder that’s now on the Desktop. Import the Mailboxes folder first, then each of the POP-username@mailserver account folders, if any.
There are two ways to import Mail 1.x mailboxes into Mail 2.x. The obvious one is importing them as Mail for Mac OS X. But Mail 1.x stored mail in standard mbox format plus some additional support files, and this allows Mail 1.x mailboxes to also be imported as Other, i.e. as generic mailboxes in standard mbox format.
Importing as Mail for Mac OS X produces the best results when it works, because it takes into consideration all the files in the mailboxes, not just the mbox files where the messages are stored, and hence, allows information such as status flags to be preserved. Importing as Other, on the other hand, may work in cases where importing as Mail for Mac OS X doesn’t, because it looks at the mbox files only, ignoring the support files which is what Mail 2.x usually chokes on, but precisely because of that, information such as status flags is lost and previously deleted messages may reappear.
Hence, you may try importing as much as you can as Mail for Mac OS X, then import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
Note that what Mail asks for when importing depends on the format chosen. Mail always asks for the folder that contains the “things” to be imported. If Mail for Mac OS X is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the .mbox folders, so you must choose the folder that contains them, not the .mbox folders themselves. On the other hand, if Other is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the mbox files, so you must choose the .mbox folders that contain them in that case.
Note also that some of the mailboxes now on the Desktop may have already been partially converted to the new .emlx format during the previous (failed) attempt to convert them in place. If you tell Mail 2.x to import as Mail for Mac OS X a mailbox that already has a Messages folder, Mail will simply ignore the Mail 1.x files present there. If the mailbox was successfully converted to the new format, that’s fine, but if the conversion was incomplete, that’s not what you want.
As a result of doing all the above, some messages may be duplicated. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

If you have many tabs open you can try to check if a tab corresponding to the download address is open, and close it. You can also try deleting the '''sessionstore.*''' files in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder Firefox Profile Folder]. This file stores the open tabs info when Firefox is closed. Please note that deleting the files would start the next session empty. You can try to bookmark the needed tabs by right-clicking on a tab > '''Bookmark All Tabs'''.

  • Why am I gettting this message EVERY time I open Firefox: Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opene

This issue started about 3 days ago.

hello, this may also be the current problem in firefox 20 that when you first close all open firefox windows and then close the application afterwards it is mistaken for a crash - the bug should be addressed in a later version of firefox.
as a workaround in the meanwhile you could close firefox (through firefox > quit) while the browser window is still running or try this: enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.
