Same problem -- new thread

I have been reading through some of the other threads in the forum and it seems I'm having the same freezing problem with my 4th gen iPod, 50 gig, when connecting to Mac. Thought I'd post a new thread since the others are tremendously long and I have not yet found any answers.
I have been accustomed to listening to the contents of my iPod through iTunes while at work, but one day the songs started skipping around and iTunes started to freeze. Thinking the problem was iTunes, since my iPod was working fine while not connected to the computer, I ignored it and just ejected the iPod. When I connected the iPod to my iBook G4 at home the same thing happened. iTunes froze, Finder froze, and I had to restart the iPod to disconnect it. After I did that the iPod would no longer show up on the desktop or in iTunes on either my iBook or work G4, so I restored it with the very latest iPod updater, thinking it would be a pain to put all my music back in, but it would be worth it in the end.
Now when I try to add music to the iPod, the iPod itself eventually freezes mid-update, freezes iTunes and also the Finder and I have to start all over again. After restoring it a 4th time I got wise and decided to manually update. I have been adding 3 or 4 playists myself and then disconnecting for a while before reconnecting to add some more. This is a painstaking process, and I'm sure there is something going on here that is not my fault. The iPod has continued to work 100% normally when not connected to a Mac. The trouble seemed to appear out of nowhere, and I don't think it's a HD problem because of the fact that the iPod never freezes when not connected.
It seems like many people with this gen. iPod are having similar problems, but I'd like to hear if someone thinks I may have done something to precipitate what is going on with my iPod. It's only a little over a year old and I see no reason why I should be having these Mac-connecting problems with it.
4th Gen 50 gig click wheel   Mac OS X (10.4.6)  

Turn off the PC.
Open your MacBook.
Open Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
Click the AirPort Utility menu item in the upper left hand corner of the screen next to the Apple icon
Click Check for Updates.
If you have been updating your MacBook, you may already have the latest version of AirPort Utility. If so, you are all set. If you have an update available for AirPort Utility, go ahead and update it.
Then open AirPort Utility again and click Manual Setup
Click on the word "Status" to see if there are any messages or updates available for your AirPort Extreme. If yes, go head and update.
In the future, use the MacBook to access your AirPort Extreme, not the PC.
There is no need to "start over" unless you want to do everything again.

    Many had the same problem. I regretfully abandoned Apple Mail v.3 for Thunderbird. I have since upgraded to Snow Leopard which came bundled with Apple Mail v.4. Does anybody know whether v.4 is reliable? I would like to use it again.

    I don't know how to answer this -- I have 15 accounts, evenly divided between IMAP and POP, over 100,000 messages, and I have never experienced what you describe. I find Mail 4.x reliable, as did I also Mail 3.x.
    My IMAP accounts are provided by Gmail, FreeMail, AOL and several that are associated with a hosted domain. Who is providing yours?

  • Printer Problems (new thread)

    I have an HP Photosmart 6150 that has been giving me more than a few headaches.  The first is that when ever I try to print a document, I get a message to replace the empty black ink cart.  This has happened with two new carts.  The gauge on both the printer and using the HP software show the cartridge as being full. 
    I also usually have to go through and troubleshoot the printer because the "spooler service" is not available
    This is happening with my Windows 7 operating system and the printer is attached to that PC via a USB port.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Can you answer a few questions, then hopefully I can help you with your printing problems.
    1. Did you purchase A or XL sized supplies for your unit?
    2. What type of documents are you printing, black text, mixed text and graphics, heavy colour, photos etc....
    3. What time frame did you print the 50 pages over?
    4. What are the estimated ink levels on your unit? From the Home screen, touch the ink icon to get estimated levels.

  • I group messaged from my ipad and this has screwed up the way my messages are reveived by my friends (it creates new threads in their phones with my email in place of my contact name) I've stopped messaging from my ipad but the problem remains. Any help?

    I have an iPhone 4S and use the group texting feature ALL THE TIME. I recently updated my iPad to the latest software and made the colossal mistake of continuing my group messaging from my iPad while connected to wifi. Doing this has successfully screwed but every group text thread I am in, to the point where its very hard for those involved in the thread to keep up. When I initially messaged those I was already engaged in text threads with it created a new thread in their phones replacing my name in their phones with my email. At first this was not a big deal but ever since then the people I am messaging have become increasingly frustrated with how my messages come through. If I am messaged in a group text and respond to it, sometimes when I respond it will create an entirely different thread in my recipients phones. So at that point they have to switch threads in order to read what I wrote. The new thread that my phone creates will send the message under my email not my name (related to the contact they have me saved as in their phones). The worst part about it is that there seems to be no rhyme or reason to why or when my phone will send the message as normal or under my email like it did with my iPad. I haven’t messaged from my iPad since these problems immediately began a month ago but the issues still continue. I have tried everything to get this to stop, I’ve turned off my wifi, I’ve had my friends delete the threads that my messages create in their phones. I’ve had them delete my email in their contact lists and nothing has worked. Can you help me? Any info you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Note: My phone message no different whatsoever. All the threads have remained the same. The issue is what it is doing to the people that I am messaging.

    I have this identical problem.  For a while my group texts didnt show up on my ipad.  Then one day they did, maybe everyone in the group started using the same os version or something.  Ever since my first reply to the group there have been complaints of multiple threads.  I can not find a pattern for when my group text's decide they want to create a new thread. (it doesnt happen every time)  Everyone in the group has deleted the thread, we've all toggled imessage on/off etc.  There still hasn't been a solution.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Exchanged ipad for new, same problems with wifi

    no cure for either unit, return for refund the only answer, none of the "tricks" listed work, all I want is a product that works, this ain't it.

    Before you return it, did you try the "lowering Brightness" fix?
    I, too, exchanged my iPad after having wi-fi issues. The second iPad suffered from the same problems. And yes, I did reconfigure my Router's settings according to Apple's suggestions--but that didn't work. So I ran across this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2391395&tstart=30. I tried the solution discussed in that thread, and now my iPad's wifi works normally.
    Hope that helps somewhat.
    (And I disagree that a customer should have to purchase a different router simply because the iPad isn't conducive to mainstream routers. The iPad was advertised as compatible with mainstream wifi routers. We, the consumers, should not bear the burden for its incompatibility. Plus, try going to your local coffeeshop and telling them to get a new router because your iPad isn't compatible with their "low end" router).

  • I updated my iPad 4 with the new iOS7 and since then Skype started problem and now email i.e, yahoo as well. I can hear people on Skype but they can't hear me though it was working fine with old version. Is any one else having same problem?

    I recently purchased iPad 4 and it is only one month old. I updated with iOS 7 and next day got problem with Skype and yahoo mails. People can't hear me on Skype though I can hear them clearly. I was replying yahoo mails quite nicely and now as I start typing the iPad turns black and have to open it again. Is there any one else facing the same problem? I was thinking to go to apple shop for support? Any suggestions?

    I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. Hope my iPod stays healthy, if it doesnt its a warrenty job me thinks any way thanks again

  • My 2011 MacBook Pro does not start and stop after the apple appear, they said that the problem is a video problem and need to change the logic board. Cost almost same to buy a new one. Somebody have the same problem?

    I have a MacBook Pro early 2011. Does not start. After the apple show, a blank screen appear. The service said that the problem is with the video plaquue in the logic board. Need to change. Cost lmmost the same than a new MacBook Pro. Somebody has the same problem? What we can do?

    I hate to break this to you, but life isn't fair. If your job is that critically in need of a computer, then you should have a spare to use for just this kind of situation or have your employer provide you with a computer to use.
    Computers break down, just like cars. If your car breaks down do you curse the car maker or get it fixed? Surely, you paid more for your car than the computer.
    This is reality. Best get used to it because it won't get any better.

  • Apple TV worked until today. Message says unsupported signal check your output device.  I have checked hdmi cable with another device and it's fine. Put on a different tv and same message.  Went out yesterday and bought a new Apple TV and same problem.

    Which TV do you have.
    You may wish to try the following:
    Press and hold the menu and the up button simultaneously on the remote for six seconds, the Apple TV should then begin to cycle through the various resolutions available to it at 20 second intervals.. If you see a picture appear up on your screen, use the remote to scroll down to the OK option and select it.

    You don't say which version of iTunes you are using, but the symptoms you describe have been encountered by some users with the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1.
    There is an alternative version for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
    iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
    that seems to address the most of the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version of 12.1.0.77 - including problems with Bluetooth speakers where either sound is degraded or completely absent.  The alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer.  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
    Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8).  It may also be necessary to ensure that your Bluetooth speakers are active and selected as the default audio device before you run iTunes.
    If this doesn't address the issue, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

Having compared both working at the same time, the iphone alsways lags behind or doesn´t even connect to the internet via Wi-Fi. Does any one know what to do?? Thanks

    Have you ever checked to see if there is an update for your router? If yes, then power off router. Then on iPhone go into settings and do a reset network settings. Power router back on, and try connecting phone to router.

  • I've just setup my new iPad Air. With new Apple ID ect everything working fine, but I can't redeem my iTunes voucher it says wrong password/ user name but they are not wrong. I've reset password same problem anyone help?

    II've just setup a new iPad Air for my daughter with a new apple ect, everything is working fine, but I can't get it to redeem the I tunes voucher. It asks for I'd and password, put them in and comes up with wrong Id/password. They are not incorrect answers, but reset password just incase. Same problem. Also tried making another apple account. Same problem again can anyone help?? Please  

    Your iTunes Voucher is link to the old Apple ID.

    Restore the phone as a new device. There is probably something that was corrupted on your phone during the update and has been passed via the backup to the replacement phone.  If the corruption/problem is contained in the backup, you'll need to re-sync your data, and re-install your apps manually. Restoring the backup again will only bring the problem back with it.
    If restoring it as new does not fix it, then make an appointment at the genius bar.
