Same project in CS5 to PAL DVD and NTSC DVD.

Hi everyone,
I am trying to find best solution how to do it. My project is slideshow with scaled JPEG images and some video clips from DSLR camera Canon T3i.
I know that video is 16:9 (1920x1080, 29.97fr) ratio and my output should be 4:3 ratio. With this I can deal with no problems, because is just few clips. My conclusion is: How to deal with PAL SD 4:3 ( 720x576, 25fr) ratio and NTSC SD 4:3 (720x480, 29.97fr) and a lot of images. What sequence settings I should use for the project? What I can think: start with DV PAL after everything is done put in DV NTSC sequence and scale it? Any other thoughts, please?
Thank you, Art

I was recently faced with a problem on an HD NTSC video that I videoed and produced.  The customer wanted a DVD that relatives over in Germany could view.  My concern was how to produce and test a PAL version.  My good friend Harm advised me that any DVD player in Pal-land has the capability of playing NTSC DVD video disks!   It worked fine.

you can't, GB is restricted to a single time signature per project
however, the time sig is really more cosmetic, it doesn't affect the way the project plays back, so you could set the project to 2/4 when working on the 2/4 parts, and 3/4 when working on the 3/4 parts

  • Avi and Pal Avi and NTSC

I have a flip video and I transfered my videos to my desktop. I want to make an imovie, but when I import them they are white/sound only.
I've tried converting the files in Quicktime and reimporting them, same thing. I tried firmware updates, same thing. I went into the imovie preferences and changed the it from NTSC to PAL, and now it all work great? I can import .mov or .avi into the session and make my little movie.
The problem is... I live in the states, not Europe and I believe PAL is menat for Europe and other countries.
What do i need to do in order to use the flipcam and it's avi files with imovie 7.1.1 and Tiger??? Bewildered... LipEye

No clue why PAL works. The files are some variant of the MPEG4 codec.
Try Mpeg Streamclip (its free but you need the QT MPEG2 component for ~$25).
It should be able to convert the file to something more useful - DV/NTSC for starters.

  • HD 1080i  and  HD 1080p on the same project????

    Hello everyone.
I am running with Finalcust 6. I need to buy a new camera. I do have the Canon HV30. Can I import in the same project footage with the format HD1080i  and  HD 1080p from different cameras?
I dont know if I need to buy this camera:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/581316-REG/Sony_HDRFX1000_HDR_FX1000_Handy cam_HDV_Camcorder.html
    Or this:

I am really happy with my HV30 results. And I am afraid to have some problem to work with 2 differents types. And if I can work with 1080i and 1080p in the same project, what will be the results?
    Thanks alot

Avoid mixing them if you can. If you do have both edit in 1080i to maintain the resolution of that media. Anything that's 1080p and needs to be rendered will become interlaced.

  • How copy the same project with its database schema & deploy it on same PC?

    Hi,
Firstly, sorry about my forum handle. For some odd reason all the handles that I am trying to create are already in use.
Right, I am a new Application Express Developer and am managing my own Oracle Database Instance as well. I have managed to create a complete project and I have another client who requires the same project. What is the logic and steps that I can use in making a complete copy of the existing project and use it for my second client. The databse objects would be the same.
My initial thoughts are to create another database schema as a copy of the current database schema and then do an import/export of the existing project so that the new copy will work with the new schema? I am just talking on top of my head here. I am not a DBA and being new to Application Express administration does not help much either as well.
    Thanks for reading my message.

Virtual private database basically works by modifying your existing query.
So you have a table with your clients and a code for each client
So when client A logs in, he uses an application_context to set his code.
You have to write the procedure to set the context.
Now , what you need to do, is to modify your tables so that you can join to your client_code table based on client_code.
So when client A runs his code, he only sees his own data. When Client B runs he only sees his Data.
But you , if you run as sysdba can see both sets of data.
Check out http://asktom.oracle.com and the oracle docs. Oracle expert one on one has a good section on this two (by tom kyte too)
You really want to satisfy yourself that this is the solution you want. Do the queries run slower. Well, it depends on how well you implement fgac. If implemented well, it will be marginally slower but you will have far less maintenance than an alternative implementation. The big advantage is adding additional clients has virtually no extra workload for you.
I think you may need to use database account authentication for this to work with Apex. I'm really not sure.
I suggest you read up on this, and maybe try and set up a 3 table demo app with it. That way you can see whether or not its for you.

  • How does one combine PAL and NTSC sequences to get a final exported QT movie?

I want to combine PAL footage and NTSC footage, shot on different cameras.
I found that I can create a PAL sequence by dragging a PAL clip to the "new sequence" icon.
BUt then, if I make two sequences, one in NTSC format, and the other in PAL format, can the¥ be exported as a single QT movie, ? or m2v ? or Mp4?

One generally doesn't.  One shoots PAL for PAL delivery and ATSC for ATSC delivery, never the two shall meet

  • Recording both PAL and NTSC versions of same project

I am importing a series of movies to iMovie in PAL format. I understand that it automatically sets the format. What steps should I follow to ensure that I can have both versions of the same footage correctly (PAL and NTSC)? On my first attempt to record on iDVD I had not changed the setting to PAL (even though iMovie project is PAL). A warning message showed that there were conflicting formats but I recorded the DVD and now it works on my NTSC TV and DVD. Then I changed the iDVD setting to PAL and made another copy. When I check the DVD's under Window>Movie Info (Quicktime) they seem to be in the correct format. It happened by accident but I understand that you should export your movie from iMovie in the new converted format in order to record a DVD in such format. I accidentally bypassed that step and I wonder if the quality has been lowered. Has anyone experienced this also? Should I do the same to save me an extra step? Thanks for feedback on this.

The conversion from PAL to NTSC (or NTSC to PAL) is a non-trival task.
In the case of PAL to NTSC, not only must the frame size be changed from 720x576 pixels to 720x480 pixels (fairly easy resizing), but the frame rate must be changed from 25 frames/second to 29.97 frames/sec (this frame rate change is NOT easy). iDVD/QuickTime seem to simply duplicate an occasional frame to go from 25 to 29.97 fps (or delete an occasional frame going from 29.97 to 25 fps) - this technique can cause the converted movie to be rather jerky.
You will probably get a better conversion use JES Deinterlacer at http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html as mentioned by Bengt

  • Workflow for dual NTSC and PAL DVD project

    Hello,
I am really in need of professional advice here, and any tips would be GREATLY appreciated. I am not an expert in Final Cut Studio, but I am OK to get things done on the project I am working on. Some things, despite cracking through multiple manuals, I can't properly figure out... THANKS AGAIN for any help!
I am working on a DVD project which I want to release in two versions: NTSC version in US, and PAL version for Poland — same content. Content was created using DV-NTSC Quicktime files, made on import from an American mini-DV SONY camcorder into Final Cut Pro. All the titles created in Photoshop were created in 720 x 540 and converted to 720 x 480 for the sequences.
I made one NTSC DVD using Studio Pro, and it seems to work okay, with some minor tweaks. But I really need to know what is the best way to make a PAL DVD with minimal quality loss. I need to set up this project correctly, because I have a **** of a lot of work to do, and I don't want to screw it up by incorrect setup.
So many questions... Should I use separate Final Cut sequence files, with different settings, for each disc? Should I finish my work in sequences with NTSC settings in Final Cut, and then use Compressor to export to PAL from within Final Cut? Really, what is the best workflow for something like this? I would dearly appreciate any advice.
    Many thanks!
    Rad

First off - you can do this. Finish your work in NTSC. Then go buy the Graeme Natress plug for FCP. http://www.nattress.com/standardsConversion.htm
Download and install the app. THen follow the instructions on his site. It's a short turorial movie and you're done.
Heads up - you'll need to first export NTSC Quicktime files of each of your movies.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can you switch back between CS5 and CS5.5 with the same project with Premiere??

    Hey all,
I just got CS5.5 for Mac (Lion) and was wondering if i am able to save a project and open it with CS5 Premiere because I work with one other editor who has CS5. I have tested saving a project in CS5.5 and opening it in CS5 but it says that it needs to convert first but then it seems to work fine. So basically, is there workflow good between the 2? Any known issues or anything else i should know about when switching back and forth?
Also, I have the student edition of CS5.5 and was wondering how many times can I install it? I plan on buying a new computer in a few months from now but currently have 2 and was wondering if i should install it on both my current computers and then deactivate one and install it on my new computer in the future? Or is there a limit and that will not work?
    Thanks!!

Because it has to create a new "version" of your project every time you go back and forth, you'll end up with umpteen versions if you go back and forth every time which could become a nightmare for you... And because it creates new "versions" every time, you're far more likely to end up with a corrupted file at some point... I'd stay away of going back and forth between versions...
As an aside, does anyone know if you can go back and forth between the same version (CS5.5) on different platforms (Mac/PC)? I may need to start doing that soon at work, and I've never tried...

  • Encoding as Bluray and Standard DVD on the same project?

If I have a project in HD and want to make additional DVDs with standard DVD , can i use the same project?  I dont want to have to remake all the menus and links.
    Thanks,
    John Q.

I'll add a fairly ignorant reply, as I've only done 3 projects in Encore. But it seems one of the magnificent things about the program is that You can export the project to 3 different formats: BluRay, DVD, and Flash.
I've intially set up the projects in BluRay to have the maximum quality to start, then when ready to burn cllick File --> Build and you get the 3 choices.
That choice is not permanent, you still have the 3 options the next time you want to do an export.

  • DVD for Pal and NTSC on same disc

somebody told me it's possible to have pal and ntsc format on one single DVD. I'll be curious if it's possible, in DVDSP, you have to chose your DVD format before you make the authoring. Maybe make to VIDEO TS folder? somebody any experience/idea about that?

I guess you could have a double sided disc (DVD-10?) with PAL on one side and NTSC on the other but I don't think many people actually do this. And i think there were compatibility problems with DVD-10 discs when replicated.
    Otherwise the answer is no

  • PAL DVD to NTSC DVD CS5

I`m using CS5 Production premium and I have edit movie (1440x1080 25fps 1,3333). Pal DVD and blu-ray is ready, but now I need to make Nort American festifal copy NTSC DVD and Blu-ray. Is that so simple that I took squence to media encoder and pick up Format: MPEG2-DVD Present: NTSC 23,976p widescreen and after that I open NTSC project on  Encore and burn DVD. Same thing with Blu-ray? I make test clip this way and it`s look fine VLC player, but I can`t test DVD or Blu-ray because I don`t have pure NTSC stand alone player. Does anyone know this issue? I don`t want to send copy that is not working

Yes I know, so if that work here that should work and look same
way in pure NTSC player there? Does anyone have experience?

  • Best workflow for footage in 1440x1080 and vid rate 23.98fps going to a PAL DVD player in europe

I am new at this and still getting a grasp of the technical details.  I've made several trips to Germany over the last three years and each time have shot using different settings.  Right now I am editing the footage from the first year where I shot 1080i and 24p (Canon XHA1).  I've already sent some DVDs with films I edited from this trip, but not sure I've achieved the best result that I can in terms of image quality.  What i think i've been doing so far is to edit in the original NTSC, and then when i get ready to burn the DVD to send to my relatives in Germany, I have set the Project Info settings in iDVD to PAL.  But from reading the boards I am getting the sense that there are multiple ways to do this, each with varying results.  Obviously, I'd like to have my German viewers view a DVD with the best quality picture, and am wondering what is the best way to go about this.  I've also read on the boards that most PAL dvd players will play NTSC, which makes me wonder if burning the DVD with iDVD set to PAL is necessary.  I've already been told by one of my relatives who has viewed the same film here in america (burned as NTSC) and in Germany (one I sent burned as PAL), that the PAL versions did not have as good a picture quality.  Any suggestions?
Also, if you knew that your primary audience was going to be PAL viewers, and you are shooting with an NTSC camera, what would the ideal settings be?  On my canon xha1, my frame rate options are 60i, 30f, and 24f.  My 'comp out' options are 480i and 080i/480i.  My understanding is 1080i50 would be better for PAL, but 25fps is not an option on my camera.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Well it must be 24 over 29.97 then because it is working with it.  I have been able to create timelines and export quicktime movies, etc.  The item properties (in FCE Browser) of the clips definitely say 23.98fps-- as I would expect because I know I had the camera set to 24p.  However, the frame rate of the sequences i've been editing on say 29.97.  This is without me having made any conscious effort to manipulate any settings for the sequences at the outset-- I didn't even know the sequences had settings for this when i started.  I just began dragging and dropping footage out of the browser and it must have automatically set the sequence to 29.97.  Who knows what I had the Easy Set up set to when i brought the footage over from my camera two years ago.  I knew even less then.  Are the settings on Easy Set up critical when bringing the footage onto your computer from your camera?  What processes are the Easy set up settings governing?
Even with all of that said, you would recommend burning the DVD as an NTSC?  An NTSC in a new PAL DVD player will look better than an NTSC burned as a PAL?  I suppose I could send them both versions and see which one looks better.
    Thanks for you help Tom.
    P.S.
On the true 24p issue, I did find this:
There are many posts out there about the Canon XH A1 not having "true 24p".
I think much of that misinformation out there maybe stemmed from (correct me if I'm wrong):
Canon Frame Mode on the standard DV cams was a "simulation: of the 24 frame look.
The Canon HDV 24p actually records each single frame progressively, but using an interlaced method.

  • Making a NTSC and PAL DVD

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my question.
The question I have is, I have made a DVD in the Video Standard NTSC( in the preference menu) now I am wondering if I can use the same project to burn both NTSC and PAL DVD formats or if I have to re-create the whole thing in the
PAL format in order to get a PAL formated DVD?
    Thanks again for helping.

    Hello PettMac,
you can change the project's standard by choosing Project > Project Info from the menu. On the right side of the pop-up window you'll find the drop-down menu for the TV standard.
That said, the standard conversion done in iDVD is not too bad, but JES Deinterlacer does a much better job. In order to convert with JESD, you'll need your original iMovie project: ctrl-click the project file and choose Show Package Contents from the drop-down menu, then navigate to the Shared Movies folder to find your reference movie. Drop that into JESD, it will create the PAL movie in the same folder (as reference movie) and you can simply replace the original movie in your iDVD project with the new one. Don't forget to change the TV standard....
    hope this helps

  • How do I convert an entire PAL DVD to NTSC, menus and all?

    Hello everyone,
I've been given a set of PAL DVD's which need to be converted into NTSC. Now, from my understanding, there is no one program available that can do this, so I've had to rip all the video tracks off, convert them to NTSC mp2's and author the DVD from the ground up in DVDSP, build a VIDEO_TS file, then use Toast to compress to a single layer DVD and burn. If anyone knows a program that can convert an entire PAL DVD to NTSC, that would be greatly appreciated.
The next problem is that when I burn any of the DVD's and put them in a duplication tower (I'm not sure if that's the actual name, but it's one of those machines where you just put the original disc in the top drive and fill the other 8 or so drives under it with blanks), it says that the burn has failed. I have tried another duplication tower and end with the same result. One option I have not tried just yet is to change the brand of media I'm using to burn, but will do so next chance I get.
I'm not sure if the two problems are related or not, but I just thought it would help.
    Thanks in advance.

    2 options.
    1) Best option - only available if you have the source material - Convert source material from PAL to NTSC using the Nattress standards converter.
    http://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm
    or the JES deinterlacer:
    http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html
It's also possible to do this in Compressor but not as good quality and longer render times.
    2) If you don't have the source footage, you'll need to demux the file in MPeg Streamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/
then transcode the file as described here:
