Same SSID, different passwords

Greetings all,
My work takes me to several schools every week, each with the same SSID (let's call it "faculty"), but each with a different password. I have to enter all the settings manually everytime I walk into a new school, and I'd love for the macbook (and iPhone too) to just remember all the settings for each school. I'm only a teacher so I have no power to change SSIDs or passwords. Is there a way for ML to remember networks by the AP's MAC address (and not just the SSID), or some other method?
Thanks!

I have 3 linksys routers and the iPad has been able to connect to them all. I settled on the Linksys WRT54GL because the others are old and starting to exhibit dropout problems.
My suggestion would be to temporarily shorten your password to one or two digits and see if that helps. Before playing around with the Linksys I would suggest that beforehand you save your config file in case you need to restore the router.
I am on G band only, channel 6. My wireless security is set to WPA Personal, TKIP+AES, and I have a 26 digit WPA shared key. BTW, the 26 digit key is a real pain in the butt, but perhaps provides additional security.
Like nearly everyone else, I am occasionally experiencing short internet disconnects followed by an automatic reconnect. I'm hoping the next iPad upgrade will remedy this.

  • Same SSID different MAC address

Ok... This is the best place for me to post this I think...
I am sharing an internet connection and am relatively close to the router (linksys) but because of the materials my building is constructed with I get a **** poor connection. So, there is a closer range extender that I can connect to, the range extender is also a linksys range extender, and I have no problems when I connect to it. The only problem is actually getting connected to it in the first place. My computer will automatically connect to the router rather than the base station. They both have the same SSID, and obviously different MAC addresses. Is there a way to force my computer to only connect to the range extender and ignore the signal from the router?

I have no problems with the range extender itself. It works great. The problem is that my airport card cannot tell the difference between the range extender and the router. Sometimes it will connect to the router, and sometimes to the range extender. I want to force it to connect to a specific MAC address rather than using only the SSID. Is there a way to do this?

  • Same SSID, different vlans

I currently have a 4402 in place, with my main office building working fine.
We are looking at bringing in the wireless at 4 other sites, but we want to use the same SSID.
How would I go about assigning different vlans (networks) to the same SSID.

You can use the "AAA Override" feature on controller. You need to have different dynamic interfaces for different vlans configured on the controller. After sucessful authentication, radius server could pass the dynamic interface information to the controller and controller can put users to different vlans according to the feedback from radius server:

  • Error fetching network with same SSID, different floors

    Dear,
I would like help from you, because I have a problem and I can not detect.
I have six devices installed in the WAP model 4410N on two different floors, and a third on each floor.
Both are with the same SSID, but when I'm walking him on a quest equipment that is in another floor, which causes the machine to drop the connection due to fluctuations and barriers such as walls, doors, windows, elevators, etc. .. .
I wonder how to detect only the AP network of walking even with the same SSID.
VLAN use one at each andaar.
If you have any suggestions thank you.
    thank you
    Anderson

    Hi Anderson,
It sounds like you have 5 access point in standalone and 5 SSID broadcasting but you can't know the difference between which SSID is good depending where you are at.
If you can use any of the AP as a repeater (you may repeat 2 additional ap), when the signal strength of the original connection is low enough, it should fall to the more powerful strength of the repeated SSID.
Additionally, if you'd like to use more than 3 AP in a repeater group, you may want to look in to something like the AP541N. These devices support clustering, up to 10 units.

  • Same SSID, different Vendors

    Hi,
Has anybody in this forum ever deployed a wireless network with the same SSID, but using 2 different vendors.
We have a warehouse and office space separated with concrete wall.  In the warehouse, we have one vendor
and in office, we have another vendor.  We want to use the same SSID in order to facilitate roaming.
    Is this feasible?
    Thx

It will not work well in some environments. Two separate systems, lightweight and autonomous does not communicate with each other to support roaming.
If you have standalone access points using open or maybe preshared key, then it can work since each roam required a full reauth. As long as the users are in the same subnet, it can work. If your using 802.1x then the roam will be very slow due to full reauths.

  • RE-CONNECTING email to my pearl (same account, different password)

    Hi--
I recently changed passwords on my personal email account also connected to my blackberry. The phone automatically disconnected my email as the password was invalid. I want to re-connect but have been unable.
I click the email appliation and scroll to existing users. I don't know what Log-in is being requested? What user name is this? to my blackberry? to my email? Nothing i have tried (usual ones i use) is successful. If i don't know my username i can't get my password emailed to me...so...this seems like a circle.
I cannot click "create new account" because one exists for my PIN.
Where can i find the information i'm missing?? I am very frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated

it should be simple. there are 2 ways you can create your   BIS (BlackBerry internet service account)account, if it was initally created using computer you can log on to your service providers BIS site, link can be found here: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/software/internet.jsp
once you are on the site you can log in using ur user id and and password and if you dont remember password    you can use forgot password option and then once logged in you can add new pasword for you email account.
other way will be to click on email setup icon on your BB and then you can edit your email address and enter new password for your email address

  • 3 wifi networks (no password) with same ssid  how to choose? in Mavericks

I have an issue-- at a location where I sometimes work, the wifi (which is set up for guests, so no password) has the same SSID/name as 2 other networks in  range.  I'm using Mavericks on a macbook.  using wifi explorer I can see all 3 (one channel 1, one channel 4, one channel 5), but under the system utilities it only shows one of the 3.  It is connecting to one that doesn't seem to work.  I know that one of them works, because my iphone is connecting to that one and works ...
I tried disconnecting and reconnecting wifi 4 times on my macbook hoping it would reconnect to the one that works, but no luck.  Guessing it is connecting to the strongest.  Is there a way to choose which of the networks to connect to manually???  set the channel or something???  This is frustrating.   As I said I can see all 3 in wifi explorer, but in OSX sys utilities I only see one instance of that ssid.
    Thanks

No, generally speaking it's not possible to manually choose what network you want to connect to when they all have the same SSID. Some apps that are similar to WiFi Explorer but that offer the ability to join the networks they find might let you choose, but it will not work very well since it ends up conflicting with what the system does, which is to automatically choose the "best" network based on different factors such as signal strength and security configuration. This "best" network is the one you see in the menu of the Wi-Fi system bar icon.
Are the two other networks in range also part of the "guest" network? If not, and they're not under your organization's control, then the only solution is to have the "guest" network use a different SSID to make it distinguishable from the others.

  • How can I let firefox save usernames/passwords for multiple subdomains that use the same username but different passwords?

on a particular website that has sub domains I have multiple accounts with the same name but different password. Firefox seems only able to save one of them, because they are on the same site.

  • Can two people share the same Apple ID on two different iPhones and maintain different passwords?  Yes, there is more to the story.

I have an iMac, and iPhone.  I've had my Apple ID for a few years.
My wife got an iPhone 4S a few months back and the salesperson at Verizon set her Apple ID the same as mine, but gave her a different password.  I don't know if this was ok, but that is what happened.
So, yesterday, we both upgraded to IOS6 and I had no problem logging in to my iPhone with my Apple ID.  When my wife went to log in, she was told that she was entering the wrong password. We entered the password over and over again and still was wrong.
The question is... can two people share the same Apple ID on two different iPhones and maintain different passwords?  (I have the feeling her iPhone is thinking that since it's my Apple ID, it wants my password.)
If not, can I still set up a new Apple ID for her even through she's had the iPhone for a few months?
    Thanks.

    Hi
You shold follow your feelings, its probably right most of the time.
You can have 5 different devices hucked upp to one Apple ID. What I have done is that my wife and I have one Apple ID, when I bye a new app on my phone, She gets it to. Thats nice.
You can allways set upp a new Apple ID for your wife.

  • I mistakenly registered my wife's and my iPhone under the same account on the same computer, albeit with different passwords. How do I separate these phones?

This mistake has confused the account somehow and actions done on one phone often have an effect on the other. I took these phones back to the dealer where they were purchased a few months ago, and they were able to correct some of the issues, but we still have problems. The latest is that my wife password would not work on her Apple ID account so she changed it successfully, but a few days later when I tried to update an app on my phone, and in trying to sign in to iTunes, it showed her name instead of mine, and of course, would not accept my password.
When we first bought these phones about a year ago, I registered them both inder the name "R & P's iPhone" and tried to assign different passwords for the 2 phones, but as I recall, this was not successful. We let it go at that, inasmuch as we had not explored the phone's features much beyond making simple phone calls. But as time went on, and we began installing apps and using other features, this conflict has showed up more and more often. Now I am told by the dealer that one cannot register 2 phones on the same computer, which sounds odd to me, but whatever, we are prepared to start over & register the phones on different computers, under different names.
I have an iTunes account, but is this where you make these changes? All I see on iTunes is related to music & movies.
    Thanks kindly for any advice.
    R & P

I access a personal iPhone and iPad, and a business iPhone with the same Apple ID.
The iPhone's passcode lock feature is completely separate from another iPhone or iOS device.
All apps, all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the Apple ID that was used to download the apps. If some apps were downloaded with one Apple ID and then a new Apple ID is created, in order to download an app update that was installed with the original Apple ID requires using that Apple ID and password.

  • I stopped using iCloud after another family member received all my contacts. Now I want to restart using iCloud. How do I prevent this happening again? We share the same Apple id password and credit card but different usernames.

I stopped using iCloud after another family member received all my contacts. Now I want to restart using iCloud. How do I prevent this happening again? We share the same Apple id password and credit card but different usernames.

If two of you shared the same contacts you were logged in with the same Apple ID. In order to avoid this you need to use different Apple IDs, and be using separate Macs or separate user accounts on the same Mac.
One or other of you should create a new Apple ID at http://appleid.apple.com for which you will need a non-Apple email address which hasn't been associated with another Apple ID.

  • I have an older ipod with a large itunes library and a new ipa 2. the both have the same email but different passwords. Can i sink th old ipod's library ith the new ipad's library?

I have an older ipod with a large itunes library. I have a new ipad2. Both have the same email address but different passwords. Can I merge both itunes libraries?

    Not sure if this helps:-
The music files, were they bought from your iTunes account or did someone gift them to you after buying from the iTunes account? If they are yours you can download them again if you clear or de-authorise the ipod, it has to be done by whoever gave you the ipod to do this (the registered  owner). If they were bought for you on another itunes account I don't think Apple let you use them as they are copyrighted and they don't belong to you, they belong to the person who bought them. If the music files where ripped from music cd's then click and drag them to a new folder on your desktop and have the person who gave you the ipod to de-authorise and unregister it. Then you re register it and put your files back from your desktop folder in your iTunes folder and synch. Hopefully that would work.  Any files which you did not buy, I would not know how get around this, best bet is to take it to you nearest Apple  Store and explain that they were gifted to you and ask how you can use them.  The best way to gift music files is to buy the gift tokens and give these. Hope above helps.

can you have different accounts (meaning different passwords, different countries/store) with the same apple ID (only one e-mail address)?

thank you for your reply, it is not very fair from apple, since for not using your credit card, you need to create a new account and if you do not have multiple e-mail  working , you are stuck! thanks anyway

I am unable to connect to two different wi if at different locations having same user name but different password one is at home other at work

  • Same username and password in different domain cannot be auth.

I created 2 domains with a user created into each domain. The users have same username and password, like below
    Domain1: user1 (password)
    Domain2: user1 (password)
Then I create 2 policy sets
PolicySet1 with Domain1 and add a policy (called Policy1)  with user1 from Domain1 and proper permissions
PolicySet2 with Domain2 and add a policy (called Policy2) with user1 from Domain2 and proper permissions
Now I apply policy1 to a document to form a secured document called SecuredDoc1.pdf
Then I apply policy2 to a document to form a secured document called SecuredDoc2.pdf
I open SecuredDoc1.pdf, and try to authenticate with user1 (password), I can successfully open the document
I open SecuredDoc2.pdf, and try to authenticate with user1 (password), I can NOT open the document.
Is this a bug? Does RightManagement authenticated with domain id?
    Thanks

Although LiveCycle will allow you to create two users with the same user ID (each in different domains) it is not recommended for the reson you are experiencing.  The domain is not used in the authentication, LiveCycle attempts to authenticate with the first user id it locates that matches the supplied user id.
In your example, The first instance of "user1" that LiveCycle is finding happens to be part of "Domain1", this is why SecuredDoc1.pdf can be opened and SecuredDoc2.pdf can't be opened (the user1 that is a member of the policy applied to the second document is not the user that has been authenticated).
You need to keep all user ids unique.

    Steve
