Same timecode on different tapes

Dear fellow editors,
I am editing a project offline and I have 2 tapes that have the same timecode. When capturing, I gave the reels a different name, but the timecode that is recorded on both tapes starts with 01. Can this cause a problem when I capture the online material?
(how will FCP know what material belongs to which tape? this is my first time working with offline material so i don't know the process of creating the online edit works... so please forgive me if this is a dumb question...)

edls use tape numbers/names and TC to conform for online so as long as you have different names for each tape you'll be fine.

  • Opening CS5 project in CC2014 - Timecode is different on spanned clips

Hi All. I am having issues opening the CS5 project in CC2014 (latest update).
    Here's the story -
I was editing a documentary project on an old Mac Pro and needed to upgrade (speed and storage wise). So I am now working on a thunderbolt 2 lacie drive and MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16gig, SSD 512. This was just a month ago. So i loaded CC. The CS5 project opens fine and fast in the new CC2014 software on the new macbook, however I have discovered that many of the clips are wrong, same tracks just different timecode.
Below are two identical timelines... The first is CC2014 and the lighter grey is CS5. The CS5 image is correct and the CC2014 is incorrect. The footage on both sequences is from the same tape number, but for some reason the time code is being read differently. The 803 clip is almost 10 minutes different in CC2014.
Now both projects are identical. The only difference is that CC2014 converts the CS5 clip into a CC2014 project.
Would appreciate any help and advice. I know it's not wise to change software during a project, but I didn't realise this would happen as it seems to be a fundamental change in the way the software reads the media, and I'm unsure what's new in CC2014 to make such a major problem occur.
    Thanks
    Scott

    An Update.
I exported an EDL out of CS5 and then brought the EDL into CC2014. I relinked the media in question and it works fine. The EDL however is not ideal for what I am doing here, as the relinking in CC2014 is not working properly either.

I have multiple album titles of the same name with different artists. How can I get them to go under one album title again?

In iTunes(on a Mac or PC) just tap on 'Albums' rather than 'Artists' and you'll see them all together.
You may find that there are songs mislabelled. In which case right tap on the Album or Artist and tap 'Get Info', then change to the correct name and the songs will join the rest of the songs for that Artist or Album.
Then resync with your iPhone and all will be well.

Just go to the wireless network preferences and empty out all the stored wireless networks.. then scan and connect to the local wireless.
Select them and tap the - button below it.
Once they are emptied out.. it might be good to reboot the computer with the remember networks unchecked.
    Start with a clean slate.

  • Why is DPM 2012 R2 splitting this Co-located Protection Group Set across three different tapes?

I have 10 protection groups that ran Saturday night.  I have put information about them in the following table:
I extracted the data in the table using Get-DPMProtectionGroup CmdLet and the job information from the Monitoring page of the DPM admin console.  As you can see from the tape barcode, DPM wrote the first four PGs to one tape, then started a second
tape, and finally failed when starting a third because it had run out of free tapes.
All of the protection groups are assigned to the same "Co-Located Protection Group Set" in the "Tape Optimization Setup" dialog box.
Prior to the jobs running, I painstakingly ensured that each of the Protection Group's "Select Long-Term Goals" and "Select Library and Tape Details" screens are identical as follows:
Prior to running the jobs I had already disabled autoclean on the tape library.
I have checked to see if the tape drive is reporting IO error 0x8007045D using the method described in this blog post:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/dpm/archive/2012/05/14/things-you-can-do-to-help-data-protection-manager-utilize-your-tapes-full-capacity.aspx
There seems to be no mention of 0x8007045D or -2147023779 in any of the MSDPM*.Errlog files.
These are LTO6 tapes with a capacity of 2.5 TB each.  The total data for all the jobs put together is less than 300GB.
Why is DPM 2012 R2 splitting these protection groups across three different tapes?
What else should I check for that might cause DPM to start a new tape?

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for taking a look at the logs.  I just wanted to point out that there were actually two changes made just before collocation succeeded:
Write Period and Expiry Tolerance were increase
    Full Verbose logging was enabled
This technet article states that Full Verbose logging affects performance.  If the problem with collocation is caused by a race condition then it is
possible that enabling logging actually caused collocation to succeed. At this point there doesn’t seem to be any evidence pointing to which of the two changes resulted in collocation succeeding.
I propose I run the following tests to differentiate the two:
    Test #1 - Collocation Confirmation
Repeat last weekend's test to confirm that successful collocation wasn't an anomaly.  Configuration:
    full verbose logging: Enabled
    Expiry Tolerance: 1 year
    Write Period: 1 year
    Test #2 - Logging Only
Test to see whether enabling Full Verbose logging enabled collocation to succeed.  Configuration:
    full verbose logging: Enabled
    Expiry Tolerance: 7 days
    Write Period: 6 day
    Thanks for your help,
    Alex

Any solution to unable to retrieve purchased apps in a new iPad using same Apple ID, same country but different payment mode?

    Hello there, Tag2011.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up great information on the process of downloading a previous purchase:
    Download past purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
    Particularly useful in your instance:
    Before you begin
Sign in with the Apple ID that you used for the original purchase.
See which Apple ID you used to download an item.
See if the content is available for redownload. Previously purchased items might not be available if they're no longer on the iTunes Store. If you changed your Apple ID from one country to another, you can’t download items you purchased in a previous country.
    and then to download again:
    Apps
    Tap App Store.
If you're using an iPhone or iPod touch, tap Updates, then tap Purchased.
If you're using an iPad, tap Purchased.
Find the item that you want to download.
Tap the Download icon. After the app downloads, you can open it from the Home screen.
If you can't find the item that you purchased in the iTunes Store, report a problem with the item. You can report a problem with a purchase made within the last 90 days.
If you have a problem with an older purchase, contact iTunes Store support.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Using different tapes and formats: common denominator?

Before I start a first production, as a very green *new) user of CS3 (soon upgraded to CS4):
    1. I f I plan to use different tapes (old miniDV standard def) + record new shots and wish to use both, should I shoot in DV mode ? (new camera is Canon HV30 and can do it, and can do HDV as well, 4:3 and 16:9...)
    2. Anyone using miniDV: to recors multiple shots, at multiple dates: can I still use the batch capture option? I tried but as the timecode seems to change and re-record, and sometimes may corrupt... how one can deal with this?...
    3. As I wish to have cues through a dummy soundtrack when I shoot video shots, I am planning to get rid of that sound and import a clean (CD quality) track to the final mount. I just want to make sure I can do it with Premiere Pro, and is there anything I must know from the start *before* shooting?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Rob,
    1) You have basically 3 options: a) record in DV mode b) record HDV and downscale it in a DV project or c) record HDV but then play it out as DV from the HV30. I've been experimenting with 'c' lately as I can easily incorporate the footage from the HV20/30's (or XLH1's) in a DV project but I have a higher-res version on the tape if I then want to incorporate that footage in a HDV project later. Handy.
    2) The ideal option is to stripe your tapes (i.e put it in the camera with the lens cap on and record for the entire length of the tape). this lays down continuous timecode that will be unbroken when the actual vision is recorded to the tape. breaks in recording won't matter because the timecode is already there.
    3) No problem. PP allows you to dump audio from any video track. BTW, if you're lip-syncing to a master track (say, for a film-clip), just make sure that you have that master up-front for your talent. A couple of different speeds might be handy if you're contemplating using time remapping (aka slo mo, fast mo) in your final piece.
    good luck.

  • Pre-Loading Timecode on a Tape

I'm sure this has been answered here. However, I did a search and could not find the answer. (I may not be thorough, but at least I'm honest)
What is the best process for "pre-loading" a tape with timecode? I want to eliminate the situation where I get a break in timecode on the tape.
Is it as simple as just putting a tape in the camera and hitting record until the tape runs out? Or is there a better way?

Kevin, JohnAlans suggestion is a common practice, particularly with analog tape for 'insert' editing purposes.
I've read though, that this may not be optimal for 'shooting' DV tape, as it can cause strange behavior, were there to be any..camera induced timecode breaks.
Best practice for this comes down the the shooter.
    - Get in the habit of always rolling 5 sec. of tape before action starts and 5 seconds of tape after action ends.
    - Try not to turn the camera off.
    - Try not to do 'searches' on tapes that are being recorded on.
    - If the camera is turned off, or you need to search back into the tape, make sure you do NOT roll past the end of the last recorded frame...preferable stop a couple of seconds prior to the last recorded frame, and begin recording there.
    - If your camera is capable of generating Bars, try to record 10 seconds of bars in between scene or location changes.
Hope that helps,...I was understanding your question to deal with 'timecode breaks' that affect captures. If you're concerned about 'blacking' tapes for editing, that's a different deal.
    Kevan
EDIT - I knew I missed something...if you have to pop the tape out of the camera at any point, follow the above listed practice of cueing up to a couple of seconds prior to the last recorded frame, and start recording there to pick up continous timecode.
Really, really try not to (DON'T) use 'free-run' timecode. It will make editing an absolute nightmare.

  • Same Timecodes please ...

    Hello All,
    Here's one for you;
    - Capturing PAL DigiBetacam images onto FCP 6.0.2. using a Digi reader and a SDI-DV breakaway box (then onto a Lacie external HD), all via a firewire 800 cable.
    - For the moment, the material will be used for an offline edit.
    - Will conform in the final online later.
    - Video is coming through fine but the problem is the timecode on FCP does not match the timecode on the original Digibeta tapes. FCP seems to be using a random counter that has nothing to do with the timecode on the original tapes.
Any ideas how I can get FCP to read the original timecodes off the tape?
    Thank you in advance ...

as far as I understand SkyPix does not use any Device Control whatsoever. Am I right?
You can get a USB to RS422 adapter to be able to control the digibeta. That way fcp will have the right TC. (unless the SDI>DV converter has a delay, but that can be compensated for in the Device Control Settings). Keyspan is one of the manufacturers who makes such adapters.
Or if you do not have to many source clips, you can modify the timecode manually.
Select a clip. Find the same frame on the tape. menu: Modify > Timecode and fill in the appropriate TC for that current time. OK
    done.

  • OBIEE report based on same criteria but different view based on filter

    Hi,
I am trying to create a report in OBIEE 11.1.1.5 where In the same report using the same criteria, I can have different views which applies different filter.
Suppose, I have a report criteria as
    Dim1, Dim2, Measure1, Measure 2.
I want to create two pivot view based on the same data.
One view will be showing data Dim1="Value1". The other view is duplicate of this view but will show data Dim1="Value2".
    Is it possible in OBIEE?
basically what I want is work on the same dataset but different representation and show them in the same report. Please share your opinion.
    Regards,
    Tanveer.

    Hi,
You create a new dim dummy column in criteria and in presentation level create new pivot table view use this dummy dimension column and filter with dim1=value2.
    give updates on this.
    Mark if Helpful/correct.
    Thanks.

  • Share music on same mac with different user accounts

I'll try to make this clear, i have an imac with a large itunes collection. my two kids have accounts on that same mac, and want to be able to listen to what i have in my itunes. i can't see putting three copies of the same music on the same computer. is there a way to let them play what i have in my itunes account while they are logged in to their own account on the same computer?
imac (5 years old)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   macbook, G4 I book, I book, Imac
    macbook w/ superdrive, G4 with combo drive, I-book w/o cd burner   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   macbook, G4 I book, I book, Imac

Jase, you said "Music sharing works across different user accounts, whether they are on the same computer or different computers", but my son will log into his account where he currently has no music. in the window on the left, we can see the other computers in the house that are on line, but there is no sign of the master account (on that same imac). i assume this is because the master account is not logged in, therefore the secondary accounts can't find the master account's music, nor can I from a remote computer ( my macbook, for example). for instance, right now from my macbook i can see my son's itunes list (on the imac) in my "share window" (even though his list is empty). he can also see my macbooks list in his "share window". he cannot see either my list on that imac, or his sisters list on that same imac. all acounts on the imac have sharing turned on, as well as "look for shared music" turned on.
i guess the focus is on this: can the master user itunes list be made available to other users on that same computer while they are logged in as other users (and the master account is logged off, which it has to be in order for the secondary accounts to be logged in, right?) I can't think of any other way to ask this, so i hope that clarified what we have tried and what we are asking for.
