Same tracking, different H&J in CS4

So I select an 11-line paragraph that's set (in the paragraph style) for
tracking at +20, reduce the tracking to +19, watch the paragraph lose a
line, then decide I want to go back to +20, but back at +20 the
paragraph does not gain a line. Bump it up to +21, and it gains the line
back. Bring it back down to +20, and it loses a line.
If the paragraph wrapped to 11 lines at +20, shouldn't it always wrap to
11 lines, even if I squeezed it a little and then unsqueezed it? The
only way I can get it back to 11 lines at +20 is to Undo through all my
actions.
Is anyone else seeing this? I would post a file, but this book uses an
unusual font.

That must be it. I used CS3 to import all the Word files at once (using
a script I got from you, I think). When I try actually editing it,
deleting a letter and then retyping it, it reflows the paragraph.
Thanks for solving the mystery, jongware.

  • Importing Markers to the same track from 3 different files

    Hi all,
    This is a marker question:
I have about 60 minutes of video and I originally have it in 1 big file (export from FCP, then compressed with chapter marker so that they will be imported into DVDSP). I have no problem with importing the markers from FCP->Compressor->DVDSP.
I broke up 60 minute file into 3 smaller files (so that I don't have to re-export/compress the whole 60 minutes worth of material when I do revisions). However, when I try to import these 3 smaller files into the SAME track, only the first one that I import carries over the chapter marker, the 2nd and 3rd don't.
What can I do to get the remaining markers imported from the 2nd or 3rd files?
    Any help appreciated!

    Hi all,
Just figured it out: I right click on the clip and the choose "Import Embedded Markers". So that solves the problem. Just unsure why it didn't do it automatically.

  • Two new SCs in the same track - with dependencies

    Hello Guys,
We are going to create an NWDI track with two new Software Components.
    1. SC for Services (let us call it SC-A)
    2. SC for UI Content (let us call it SC-B)
These are going to be brand new SCs created in SLD and imported into one NWDI track for starting the development.
SC-B is going to be dependent on SC-A.
(SC-B will use various services provided by SC-A which will be made available via public parts).
I will create the SCs in SLD and define the necessary dependencies accordingly (between SC-B and SC-A).
I will then create the track with the above two SCs as developed Software Components.
Initially at the check in stage, I will not have any sources (SCA files) for the above two software components itself (since
they are brand new - without any code yet). However, I will checkin the other required SCAs (JEE, JBUILDT, JTECHS, .. ).
    My concerns / questions are:
    1. Can we do the development on both the software components in parallel?
    2. Let us say, I created a DC with name DC-A in SC-A (via a NWDS activity) and after checking that activity in and activating my changes,
I created another DC with name DC-B in SC-B which uses DC-A from SC-A, would this be a problem?
    3. In question 2 above, do I have to take care of the dependencies in a different way ?
(when compared to having both the used DC and USing DC in the same SC)
    4. Can I add more SCs into the same track (which will probably use both SC-A and SC-B) in the future ?
I believe that this is going to be just fine but I am a little confused around the initial "check-in" of the requires SCAs into the track.
Also, we are going to spend a lot of time in the development system itself and it would be nice to work in parallel on both the SCs.
(The assembly of the above said SCs is only going to happen after a few months of development effort).
I also understand that we can have the two SCs in separate tracks but we really want them in the same track and be able to work on them in parallel.
Please throw some light in this area ...
Thanks for taking time to read ...
    Thanks,
    Kalyan

    Hi Kalyan,
    To your questions:
    1. Yes.
    2. No, make sure to sync you used DC's on DC-B.
    3. No, this is a legitimate SC-DC architecture.
    4. Yes, but for "future" projects you probably want to use new tracks.
You should check-in the required SCA's AND import them in development.
You can work parallel on both SC's.
You better use one track as assembly/deployment will be on the same date, otherwise you need track connections (either a repair, which needs a NWDS-release of perhaps not tested functionality, or a transport, which needs a complete & approved SC-A, is it?).
Let me just say: I have the same architecture and it works fine for me.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Alain

  • How to apply transitions between clips in the same track?

    Hey guys,
I'm in Uni on Final Cut Pro 5 and all the videos and discussions tell of how to apply transitions between clips in the same track.
I like to have my clips on different tracks so that I can overlap them at specific points but I don't know how to do this?
If I have track one. . .which ends. . .and have track 2 beginning below that (and have it overlapped for a few seconds) I don't know how to enable the transition at the point where track 2 begins.
    Can anyone help?

    Yep I understand that.
Let's say I overlap track 2 as I don't like the beginning of it. . .so I want the transition from the end of track one to track two to occur in the middle of track 2 - should I just trim the track to the point I want the transition to occur as opposed to have it overlapping?

  • Why do my (raw) pictures display differently in LR2 and CS4 ???

    Hello,
When I "Open with CS4" from LR2 the pictures seem to be opened as "raw" unprocessed pictures. LR2 did not ask for any options (which it does once I have modified the image in LR2). The raw develop screen from CS4 does not open...
    any Ideas?
    cu,
    Michael

Indeed the Monitors (3 of them) are calibrated. I use a Spyder3Elite for calibrating. All three monitors show the same effect in any combination of LR2 and PS-CS4 displayed on the same or different monitors. To my knowledge I've never touched any settings within any adobe product that involves monitor adjustment and never had any problems with PS-CS3 using the same constellation.
Do you have any suggestions of where to look, or which settings to check?
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • Using 16:9 and 4:3 footage in the same track

    Hi,
I've just made the step up to DVD Studio Pro and am currently trying to create a new showreel based on a previous iDVD project. In terms of using DVD Studio Pro - some of it is very simple to get to grips with, but I have a question about using footage with different aspect ratios in the same track.
If I have, say, one movie which is 16:9 FHA (Clip A), and another which is 4:3 (Clip B) - is there a way to have these play in the same track in their correct format. For example, when viewing the track on a 16:9 screen I would like Clip A to fill the screen, and Clip B to appear with a black bar on the left and right of the picture. When watching the track on a 4:3 monitor, however, I would like Clip B to fill the screen, and Clip A to appear letterboxed. Is this possible?
FYI, I create the track in Final Cut Pro - marking the sequence as anamorphic and then exporting as a DV Pal Anamorphic Quicktime movie.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Jack

No - to do what you're asking, you cannot mix aspect ratios or Display Modes in a single DVDSP track. You must use two tracks and connect them (usually via scripting).
In case that's confusing, you have two anamorphic clips, right? Clip A is a true Anamorphic 16:9 clip (it fills the full frame) while Clip B is a pillarboxed 4:3 clip. That is, for clip B, you dropped it into an anamorphic 16:9 sequence in FCP so that there are black bars on the side, and then exported it, right? In case you haven't that's what you need to do.
Now, in order to get the playback you desire (Clip A at full frame, Clip B pillarboxed on a 16:9 display; Clip A letterboxed, Clip B full frame on a 4:3 display) you'll need to place the two clips on different tracks. For the track housing Clip A, the Display Mode (in the Inspector palette) should be set to 16:9 Letterbox (which is responsible for letterboxing when connected to a 4:3 display). For the track containing Clip B, set the Display Mode to 16:9 Pan-Scan (which tells the DVD player to crop off the left and right edges when connected to a 4:3 display). When connected to a 16:9 display - provided the DVD player is not misconfigured - both tracks will play out correctly since both tracks are tagged as 16:9 (no letterboxing or cropping will occur).
Of course, the key thing is to join the tracks. For that, it's best to use scripting (in my opinion) if you're planning on do a Play A, Play B, Play All scenario. Or, if you're keeping it extra simple (Play means it'll play both segments) you can simply join one track to another via the Connections tab. In both cases though, there will be a slight pause during the jump from one track to another. How much of a pause is dependent on the DVD player.
Or did I misunderstand what you're hoping to do?

  • How to select textFrames with tracking different to 0 (zero)?

How to select textFrames with tracking different to zero (greater or smaller than zero)?
    Thanks.

    Hi All,
Thanks for your help. The orignal clips are from Sony PMW F3 camera and I have got Dimensions: 1920 × 1080, Codecs: MPEG-2 Video, Linear PCM, Timecode, Color profile: HD (1-1-1), Total bit rate: 36,623.
The other camera has given me .MTS files which I have converted in MPEG-2 also. I used Wondershare Video Converter to convert second cameras clip.
I don't think the clips are matching with first camera's clips because still that is saying the same thing.

  • How are pre-named software tracks different from 'new' tracks ?

We have these software tracks or audio tracks with names like Percussion , guitar , piano etc......how are these tracks different from a track which we make from menu as a new track ?
Like we have various effect presets in guitar tracks is it so all these pre named tracks have some specific presets assigned ?
or if I'm recording in a midi track it can be any name all the tracks have same parameters and a region will sound same in any of them effectwise ??

All predefined instrument patches are having a set of suitable effects and filters assigned. YOu can see these in the "Info" panel, after you select an instrument your track. Click the "Edit" tab, and you will see, how the predfined patches differ.
For a midi track, the sound generator will differ dependng on the instrument group, and some basic effects will be predefined, like "Compressor". YOu can click the empty bricks to add your own effects.

  • I have several copies of the same track - how do I remove extra tracks?

First, I am now running iTunes for windows, 11.1.3.8
My computer is a laptop running Windows 7.
I have an iPod classic that I try to sync with it.
I have a mix of songs downloaded from Amazon (sorry guys) or ripped from CD's.
A year ago, iTunes started creating several copies of the same track.  For example, if I wanted to listen to Adam Ant, I'd have three copies of "Desperate, but not serious" and one copy of something else and two copies of "Room at the Top."
So, I deleted the extra tracks.  Sometimes this was horrid because if I deleted the wrong track, the other tracks wouldn't work, but they all looked the same (same number of bytes, no numbers at the end of the titles, etc) so I had to be careful.
I cursed, a lot, so after a time I deleted iTunes completely, then started over.  That seemed to fix it.
BUT, today, I have the same problem.
It's random.  Not every album is effected.  Not every song on a certain album is effected.  It's not just songs I ripped, or songs I downloaded.  There's nothing you can point at and go "AHA!"
Furthermore...this might be a separate problem, but my iPod is not always recognized by iTunes, and some of the songs on the iPod get skipped.  Again, no way of telling which songs it doesn't like...it skips some ripped, some downloaded.  No correlation that one can easily track.
What I would like to do is fix iTunes then reset the iPod and start over, I guess?
Any ideas?  Thank you all in advance.

Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping, whether you do so by hand or using my script, in case something goes wrong.

  • Multiple MIDI takes on the same track - can only find one in the editor?

After making several passes on an instrument track w/drum sampler on it I opened the piano roll editor to edit the data only to find only one of the passes represented there. I could only find the other passes when I moved the current one out of the track temporarily. There must be a better way to do this, can anyone hip me to the right way to edit all the data in the multiple passes at the same time? I can hear all the data, I just can't see all of it.
I'm doing this so I only have to instantiate the Virtual Instrument once in the session, CPU is always at a premium these days. I have done the bulk of my work in recent years in ProTools but I have found Logic Express 8 to be far more efficient with CPU load on my core 2 duo Macbook. I suspect I'm just missing something but I cannot seem to figure it out. Help?

I appreciate your comments but my issue was in editing the already recorded tracks. If you can find in those pages where it shows how to view all the data from the already recorded multiple MIDI tracks at the same time in the piano roll window and be able to edit them I'd be much obliged if you would point those out to me. I double checked your recommendation after reading your first reply, the answer I needed was not there.
Evidently you can only select and view one region at a time no matter how many there are in the same track. I have searched the LE 8 pdf manual and also searched thru an Apple Logic Pro Training series book for version 7 JIC it had some additional insight into this particular issue and came up empty, that's why I was asking for additional insight on this panel. I always go to the documentation first - RTFM is first call for me.
I've already figured the workaround and I'll know better next time to allow Logic to create its own multiple take folders so as far as I'm concerned this case is closed. Thank you again for your input.

  • Multiple artists with same tracks but iTunes library is sane

Ok, so I have a problem with multiple artists on my iPod. I know this has been discussed a lot before, but I haven't seen this actual problem yet. The problem is I don't get just one or two multiple cases, we're talking like 20-30 multiple instances of the same spelling of an artist and with all the same tracks listed when you select each multiple instance, however the iTunes library appears to be fine. I've tried resetting the iPod, restoring the iPod, and nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
    IBM ThinkPad   Windows XP Pro

What you can try is to convert the song that appears on your iPod. This creates another file of the same song. Find the song that shows up multiple times on your iPod and right click the song. Choose the option "Convert to AAC" or somthing close to that. After converting, there will be two songs listed on your iTunes library. Delete the old song, and keep the new one that you just created. And if this problem still persists, then you have to delete that song and get another copy of that song elsewhere.

  • Multiple takes on the same track, fading from one take to another

Isn't there a way to record multiple takes on the same track and fade the takes together?  In an old version of Garage Band, you used to be able to put two takes one on top of the other in the same track and fade them together.  Now, the track just cuts and there's no fading to the next one.  It's so cheesy this way; all live instruments need two tracks, one for mess-ups. I called up Apple Care but the guy couldn't find a solution.  If this is the way it is now, it's very cheap.  I mainly bought the Mac because of Garage Band, the Garage Band of old; has it been dumbed down now so that musicians are forced to spend even more money to upgrade to the next level program?  I wouldn't have bought the Mac but instead stuck with Mixcraft on PC, which has ease of use and cost only $80.  Please say there is a way to fade from one take to the next on the same track without cutting off one take abruptly.  Otherwise I have been duped by Apple.

    Sorrry dude, didn't happen.
I'm guessing you used Apple Soundtrack - sounds a lot like what you're describing.
Garageband, incidentally, has only added features version to version.

  • Is there a way to snap cut/edited portions together on the same track rather than manually having to drag them together?

Is there a way to snap cut/edited portions together on the same track rather than manually having to drag them together?  To elaborate, if I have a 3 minute track of raw audio and I edit out the middle 30 seconds of it I am left with two tracks with a "30 second" area that has no file.  To join them manually I can click and drag one portion of the audio until I match it with the other section but instead, is there a shortcut or function that I could select that automatically marries up the cut portions of the track, thereby eliminating the 30 second gap?

Yes: hold the control key while deleting (or select "delete and move" from the Edit menu.)
