Same Wireless keyboard for iPad and iMac

Can I easily and quickly use a wireless keyboard on a Ipad & a Imac? I can pair them but can't
connect them. KST

You can pair the keyboard to multiple devices. For example, my keyboard is paired to my Mac, iPad and iPhone.
You can only use the keyboard with one device at a time. This means you have to "disconnect" not "un-pair" the keyboard from a device before "connecting" it to another device.

There are fatal difference between Ukrainian keyboard layouts for iPad and for iMac. Letters «І» and «И» are set vice versa. I would like to have equal Ukraine keyboard layout for iPad and iMac. How I can get it?

You need to create and restore a backup to transfer the application data.

  • How long does an apple wireless keyboard for iPad battery last?

does anyone know how long does an apple keyboard for iPad battery last? Thanks

No.  Once sn iOS version comes out that is not compatible with your hardware, you cannot, obviously, update iOS any longer.  However, your iPad running the last release of iOS compatible with it will continue to run that iOS release at the same speed it always did.
Nothing about any computer ever slows down with age - your cpu, RAM and storage all function at the same speed as they always did.  New software may add features that tax your system more than a newer system would be taxed, but nothing about your system changes just because the device ages.
At some point, our system simply is unable to update or run newer software because that newer or updated software requires hardware features that yours simply does not have.  But your exisiting software on your existing hardware will continue to run just as it always has.
As to when your system becomse unable to handle new software or iOS features, that is purely a matter of how quickly newer hardware comes out and how quickly software developers move to new features that your system cannot handle.
There is no inherent reason to believe that an iPad 4 will not be compatible with the next release of iOS - it might not be, but it may very well be.  Depends entirely on what changes the next release (whenever that may be) introduces, and what new device hardware Apple may be working on.

  • Do I need 2 keyboards for macbook and iMac in clamshell mode?

Hi Experts, do I need 2 wireless keyboards to work with macbook pro connected to iMac in clamshell mode? or can the keyboard be switched from iMac to MacBook 'on the fly' (after activating TDM mode)?
Problem is that when I activate TDM to display the MacBook screen on the iMac (used as the display only), the wireless keyboard is still connected to the iMac and can not be found by the macbook. So in clamshell mode, i.e. with a 'closed' macbook', I do not have a keyboard...
    Thanks and best regards, Chris

    Hello christoph128,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To get a wireless keyboard to work with multiple computers in any situation, you would first need to unpair the keyboard with the iMac, and then pair it with the MacBook Pro.  Since that's the case, it might be easier to either use a second wireless keyboard paired only with the MacBook Pro, or have a USB keyboard.

  • Trying to use function keys (like windows) on apple wireless keyboard for ipad, as well as arrow keys.

I am connecting to my work PC through my ipad. My main program i use for work is a DAS based (ancient, i know.) Anyways, i have to be able to use function keys, i can touch the screen so if i can not it isn't the end of the world. But it would make things MUCH more easier. Is there a way to program the F1-F12 keys on the wireless keyboard to use like windows, rather than the brightness/volume/play buttons.
Also, my arrow keys don't seem to work right. If i am using notepad, they don't work, unless i have entered down 6 lines, the arrows will work as far as those 6 lines, but won't go down on there own. If i am on the internet and there is a drop down menu, the arrow keys don't work either. As well as in my work program, they don't work at all, it's as if the arrow keys don't register.
    Help?!

Just added information. In my work program, i can use the onscreen keyboard (but it takes up half the screen so i can not see what i am doing. From that keyboard, and can toggle back and forth from the regular keyboard, the FN screen for function keys, and the CTRL keyboard. This is why i am confused as to why the function keys and arrows will not work on the wireless, yet they have the keyboard on the screen.

  • Using a hybrid of the same apple ID for iPad and iPhone.

    Hey everyone,
I'd like to be clear and hopefully someone can give me an accurate response as soon as possible.
So, today my sister gave birth (Hurrah!) and she has an iPad 2 that i got her for christmas.
Long story short, my mom is in the same hospital as my sister in the emergency room since she had a heart attack/nervous attack and had to be there for testing. -- Thing is, i want her to Facetime me with an alternate email from my iCloud so she's able to see her grandson while i'm with her.
    Question:
Yes, or No: Can we use a hybrid of the same apple ID for both iPad and iPhone?
(Hybrid implying the use of iMessage/Facetime with an alternate email and not my cell number or primary account email.)

So once that's done, that'll be it?
Cause she has one of my alternate emaisl currently listed on the iPad (and i unselected those on my iPhone) and it seems that it's not registering as an iMessage when i try to send her a message via my iPhone.

  • Pages for iPad and iMac?

I installed pages on my iPad Mini.  I am setting up a trip report template to use on an upcoming trip.  Thought it would be easier to set up on my iMac but realized that I might have to purchase Pages ($19.99) for iMac.  I have used Word (for iMac) for years.  Should I stick with Pages on iPad and develop my trip report there?  Will I be able to transfer trip report to iMac later?  No problem purchasing Pages for iMac, just wonder if it is necessary.  Thanks.

Without Pages for OSX, you would be left with transferring the files between two formats, which could prove to be problematic, depending on the complexity of the spreadsheet (formulas, pivot tables, conditional formatting, etc.). Take some time to experiment a bit, both with importing and exporting the file from the iPad, and possibly settings it up from scratch (or reworking it after the import). A relatviely simply spreadsheet may not present a problem in any scenario, but without knowing the specifics of your template, its hard to say. I have found that using Pages for OS X is a bit less combersome for personal files than Excel for MAC in conjunction with the iPad (but have been able to make it work for some business files to a degree).

  • Should we use same apple id for ipad and iphone

i had bought a ipad, should i use the same Apple ID as per my iphone? or create a new one. if i use the same ID, howabout my i cloud storage will be remain 5GB or 10GB

One possible use for separate Apple IDs is to have a separate ID associated with a particular device.  This could be important with iMessage or Facetime, because if you associate all your devices with one ID, you will receive iMessages or Facetime calls on all your devices simultaneously.  If you only want to do iMessage on your iPhone, for example, people could use the Apple ID associated with your iPhone, and the messages would not show up on your iPad.  Obviously, this could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you like to work.
For me, I have a single Apple ID, mainly because it is easier to keep track of my purchases and downloads.  I also prefer to receive messages and facetime calls on all my devices, so I can choose which one to respond from.

  • Best parent controls for iPads and iMac running on BT Home Hub

    Hi,
Despite the great sounds coming from the big ISPs about parental controls, they're determined to make a really simple concept absolutely impossible.
Firstly, I'm not trying to lock-down my family's access to the net, but I have two boys aged around ten, and being boys they're inquisitive, so are probably getting closer to stumbling across some seriously dodgy content... And I want to try to prevent that... It should not be hard. If I could limit the times they were online, just if browsing gets out of hand (they're kids remember) that would be a handy option as well.
So on to the technical details... We have a standard BT broadband account that comes into a new BT Home Hub. This is currently our WiFi point. We run a laptop, two ipads, iphones and an ipod touch on Wifi, and have a desktop ethernet'd to the Home Hub. BT offer a downlaodable Family Protection package that allows user accounts to be configured, but this does not appear to work on an iPad or Touch.
Very shortly, we're about to retire the PCs from family life and install an iMac. So we're getting into a properly Mac environment. I was also considering installing a Time Capsule for back-ups and had considered stringing this in series on the Home Hub, then networking all of the Apple devices off of the Time Capsule.
Ideally, the controls would be at a us level, or at least by device. I've come across some App options, but this seems like an unecessary layer of proprietary complexity.
So how Do we deploy parental controls? The simplest option, that BT have failed to realise, would be a network solution that filters everything coming into the house and stops it before it even hits the Home Hub - but that doesn't appear to be an option.
So what options do we have? Any ideas? I had heard suggestions that I could manage user control via the Time Capsule, but that's proving hard to confirm.
Happy to supply any further information to help with this query.
In summary, how do I stop **** getting onto my boys' iPads/Touchs... Should be simple????
    Cheers, Mombee.

Sorry, but the Apple routers do have any type of parental controls on them.
If you have not already done so, you might want to take a look at the parental control options offered by OpenDNS.

  • Earphones for Ipad and Imac

    Hi
does anyone know if it is possible to obtain earphones that can be used with both the i pad and the i mac, thanks very much

I have these --- http://www.ultimatebuds.com/store/product.php?productid=16146&cat=0&page=1&featu red -- they use the same mic as a regular iPhone.
And if you want to stop the buds from sliding off, with these headphones its more the annoyance of loosing then when I'm out on a run, not them ending up in my middle ear, wrap some Teflon Tape around the posts of the earphones before you put the buds on. This is the same tape you use to seal threads of pipes and around 99c a roll from your local hardware store. For these buds, it works like a charm and it amazing, I can hardly pull then buds off the headphones while before even looking at them caused them to come off!!
    Cheers

Your post is pretty lengthy and I have to admit I didn't read it all. Please try restarting in Safe Mode, if that doesn't work please do both a SMC and PRAM reset. These may take 2-3 attempts.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

Thanks for your observation. I realize they are different versions, but when I use the "Software Update" menu, this is as far as it would update. Is there some way to update the iMac beyond what "Software Update" does? I've tried it several times.
    Please Note.
Upgrading OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion) is not an update. It is a paid upgrade. Just as with 10.7 (Lion) you must purchase it from the App Store with yor Apple ID and install it after backing up your current computer state for safety.

  • HT2452 just got a replacement wireless keyboard for imac but comp doesn't recognize it and won't connect. can't type or use it. any suggestions?

Just got a relpacement wireless keyboard for my imac but the computer won't recognize it and b/c i can't use the keyboard (type) there's little troubleshooting i can do. how do i reconnect this? thanks!

You may need a wired keyboard to carry out some of these steps. It's a good idea to keep a cheap wired keyboard and mouse or trackball as backups for a desktop Mac anyway, because Bluetooth isn't completely reliable.
    Step 1
Follow the instructions in these support articles:
How to set up your Apple Wireless Keyboard
Apple Wireless Keyboard: Difficulty during pairing process
    Step 2
The keyboard should pair automatically when you reboot. You may have to press and hold the power button on the right side of an Apple keyboard until the LED starts flashing.
    Step 3
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 4
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Reboot.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    See these support articles:
Bluetooth keyboard may not pair during Setup Assistant
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference
Bluetooth: Unreliable wireless performance may occur when USB 3.0 external devices are close
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

I have a wireless keyboard for my ipad and it says to charge it connect it to my pc.  can i charge it by connecting it to my ipad?

No. The iPad's port won't put out enough power. You could probably plug your keyboard into your iPad charger and charge it that way, but it won't charge off the iPad.

Have you tried to go into bluetooth and telling it to forget your keyboard?
Drastic but might enable you to repair the devices and see if it clears up the glitch.
I had a period of time when my iPad always sensed and used my bluetooth keyboard. I think it finally went away after I powered down the iPad. (not just a put to sleep, a bonafide 'slide the red slider to shut it down' powering down.
